What is “emotional intelligence,” and do you have
any? What about the
people around you? Are
any of them “difficult”?
How can understanding
emotional intelligence
help you deal with that
annoying co-worker, that
stubborn employee, that
hard-headed boss, that
obnoxious neighbor? Join
Brian Schriner, Professor
of Communication Arts
and Dean of the College of
Architecture and the Arts,
for the real low-down on
why people are the way
they are, and what you
can do about it. This is the
third year Schriner has led
discussion on this popular
topic. EzVIP, CEO
Nelson, 27, who grew up
in Southwest Miami and
graduated from Southridge High, is the Founder
and CEO of the website
that allows you to reserve
and pay for your bottle
service at a nightclub in
advance. (Think of it like
the popular restaurant
application Open Table,
but for nightlife.) After
three years he decided to
pitch his idea on the show
that features successful
entrepreneurs like Mark
Cuban (Dallas Mavericks
owner), Daymond John
(founder of FUBU clothing line), Kevin O’Leary
(educational software),
Barbara Corcoran (real estate) and Robert Hejavec
(technology security) who
try to outbid each other to
invest their own money
and get a piece of a new
business.
On Friday, Jan. 20, Nelson’s pitch was in the final
slot of the show’s season
premiere, and he watched
the broadcast with a small
group of friends at the
Shelborne Hotel on Miami
Beach.
