Jason Jackson TV Host & Courtside Reporter This marks Jason Jackson’s ninth season as television host and courtside reporter for Miami HEAT telecasts on Sun Sports. He also serves as a host for Sun Sports’ Emmy awardwinning Inside the HEAT series. In addition to his duties with the HEAT, he is a featured on 560 WQAM’s Jorge Sedano Show weekly on “The Jax Report”. Jackson, a eight-time Emmy winner, is a versatile broadcasting veteran of over 22 years. For three seasons (2004-2007), on both 790 the Ticket and 560 WQAM, Jackson hosted the post-game coverage for Miami Dolphins’ radio broadcasts. Prior to joining the HEAT, Jackson hosted The Jax Show, a syndicated afternoon drive sports talk radio show in southern New England. From 1995-2002, Jackson was an anchor/reporter at ESPN. He anchored NBA 2Night, NBA Matchup and co-hosted ESPN Radio’s Gameday. Jackson served as host for ESPN’s coverage of the NBA All-Star Game and the NBA Finals from 1997-2002. He was also a regular contributor to SportsCenter, ESPNews and ESPN.com. reserve your table today... Dr. Jim Webb John Bailly Life in the universe with Dr.Jim Webb- FIU astrophysicist Jim Webb has been a key player in establishing the new $3.4 million Stocker AstroScience Center at FIU, which is scheduled open in Fall 2013. Dr. Webb has published over 60 scientific papers, obtained research grants from NASA, NSF, and other sources, and has been the the director of a research observatory at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona for the last 15 years. John Bailly is a professor in the Honors College at FIU, where he founded and directs the Aesthetics and Values Exhibition, a program that has earned national recognition. A&V students have presented at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference every year since 2007 and have also curated and participated in special projects in a variety of venues. FIU Astrophysicist Webb is also a multiple award winning teacher and lecturer, was a featured speaker in FIU’s first TEDx talks, and his enthusiasm for the popularization of science led him to establish a public lecture series featuring “Star Parties”. The multi-talented Webb is also a singer-songwriter and is currently recording a professional CD of his original astronomy songs with producer Keith Morrison at Kokopelli studios. He has given 100’s of talks and concerts at planetariums, science centers, and other universities around the country. Artist In 2010-2011, Bailly developed two self-supporting study abroad courses, one in France (Art, War, and Human Rights) and another in Italy (Empire, Renaissance, and Individualism). In 2009 he was made an Honorary Member of National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and was the national runner-up of NSCS’ Inspire Integrity Award. John Bailly was born in Slough, Buckinghamshire in 1968, of a French father and an American mother. He was raised in Paris, Aix-les-Bains, Long Island, Lyon, and Miami. He received his MFA from Yale University in 1993 and is a Fellow of the Honors College at Florida Dr. Marilyn Volker Javier Romero Sex Therapist Hispanic Radio & TV Host Dr. Marilyn K. Volker, Sexologist for the past thirty-two (32) years is a Diplomat of the American Board of Sexology and an Associate Fellow of The American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. She sits on the faculty of four South Florida universities - University of Miami, Florida International University, St. Thomas University, Barry University as well as is Associate Professor at The Institute For Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, San Francisco, California, where she received her doctorate in 1991. She has served as sexuality consultant for a variety of addiction treatment facilities state and nationwide and has written articles addressing sexuality issues in recovery. Dr. Volker teaches in the sexuality programs for two medical schools - University of Miami and Ross University and is a doctoral committee member for Union Institute. Javier Romero is one of the premiere radio and TV personalities in the U.S. Hispanic market. With over 25 years of experience in radio and more than 22 on TV, he has managed to lead the ratings in both media. Dr. Volker helped to establish the Health Crisis Network, Florida’s first community based AIDS project in 1982 by directing its education division. Javier has been the top morning radio deejay in South Florida for over two decades. Having the highest rated morning show on Univision’s Amor 107.5FM and also being the co-host of the #1 TV show Sabado Gigante, for almost 20 years. On weekends, he also hosts, the syndicated countdown show “El Hit Parade de America” on over 60 radio stations, covering both the pop and the regional Mexican markets. Javier has also participated in very important advertising campaigns such as: AT&T, American Airlines, State Farm Insurance, and Disney, to name a few. He is actively involved in the community, serving organizations such as: March of Dimes, The American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the Susan G. Komen foundation. Al Nelson Linsey Harris Smith Dr. Brian Schriner Al Nelson always knew he had a good idea for a business. He just never knew how good it was until he pitched his start-up company – EZVIP.com – on the ABC show ‘Shark Tank’. Born and raised in New York, Linsey is a graduate of New York University where she studied Applied Psychology. Upon graduation, she accepted a position as Clinical Session Assistant to Dr. Clifford Hudis, Chief of Breast Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Linsey was lured to South Beach in the summer of 1999 to act as project manager on the renovation for The Whitelaw Hotel, a South Beach Group hotel. Upon completion of the renovation project she stayed on as General Manager and subsequently opened The Hotel Chelsea and The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club where she acted as General Manager. This is the third year Schriner has led discussion on this popular topic. EzVIP, CEO Nelson, 27, who grew up in Southwest Miami and graduated from Southridge High, is the Founder and CEO of the website that allows you to reserve and pay for your bottle service at a nightclub in advance. (Think of it like the popular restaurant application Open Table, but for nightlife.) After three years he decided to pitch his idea on the show that features successful entrepreneurs like Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks owner), Daymond John (founder of FUBU clothing line), Kevin O’Leary (educational software), Barbara Corcoran (real estate) and Robert Hejavec (technology security) who try to outbid each other to invest their own money and get a piece of a new business. On Friday, Jan. 20, Nelson’s pitch was in the final slot of the show’s season premiere, and he watched the broadcast with a small group of friends at the Shelborne Hotel on Miami Beach. Program Director for Special Olympics, Miami-Dade Co. In December 2012, Linsey was thrilled to the position of Program Director for Special Olympics Florida – Miami-Dade County. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Her new role provides an opportunity to marry her strengths in business development and event management with an incredible mission. FIU Dean of the College of Architecture + The Arts He has held several administrative posts since arriving at FIU in 1990, including Director of Faculty for FIU’s Legal Studies Institute. In addition, he is an award-winning educator, having taught on interpersonal communication for more than 20 years. He is a past recipient of FIU’s prestigious Teaching Incentive Award, has been named Instructor of the Year, and has twice been named to FIU’s College of Business Administration’s Circle of Excellence for Teaching.
