Home Services Receives 4-Star Patient Excellence Award
Maury Regional Home Services was recently awarded the Four-Star
Excellence Award from Professional Research Consultants (PRC), the
firm specializing in market research exclusively for health care that conducts the hospital’s patient satisfaction surveys. This recognition is part of
PRC’s 2008 Patient Perception Awards.
“The Home Services department’s employees work very hard to consistently receive high patient satisfaction scores. I am very proud of the
dedication and compassion shown by our team,” said Debbie Bratton, administrative director of home services.
The Four-Star Award designation is given annually to health care facilities or providers that score in the top 25 percent of the PRC national client
database for the previous year. It is based on the percentage of patients
who rate the facility “excellent” for the overall quality of care question.
“Since the first of the year, Home Services has scored at or above

award for its high patient satisfaction scores.
Home Services has implemented various practices which aid in attaining high scores. At each staff meeting, customer satisfaction is discussed and evaluated. Employees who have
received positive remarks from patients are identified and recognized. The department further personalizes the care
of its patients by making phone calls and mailing notes thanking them for choosing MRH Home Services.
National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week
National Hospital Week was May 11-17 and National Nurses Week was May 6-12. MRH recognized these
weeks with a variety of activities for employees. In addition to providing free meal tickets to employees, MRH held
a National Hospital Week Meal (left) on May 15, in which employees enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers.
Florence Nightingale (Sabrina Ardry, 3W) visited nursing units (right) on the anniversary of her birth on May 12
in celebration of National Nurses Week. She presented the Nurses Week essay contest prize to the Pediatric Unit,
receiving the award on behalf of contest winner Fern Tocco. Nurses were asked to submit essays on how the nursing staff at MRH make a difference in the lives of patients, families and visitors.

Speech & Hearing
Screenings
Conducted
Free speech and hearing screenings were offered for children on May
12 and 21 at Maury Regional Hospital’s Spring Hill Medical Building.
Parents were encouraged to
bring their 3- to 5-year-old child for
a screening from a licensed speech
pathologist. If any speech and/or
hearing deficit was detected, parents
were referred to an appropriate care
provider for additional treatment.
The Spring Hill Medical Building
is located at 5421 Main Street near
Home Depot in Spring Hill.
Foundation News
Foundation Assists Pastoral Care
The Maury Regional Healthcare Foundation recently provided $1,000, requested by the
Pastoral Care Committee, for the initiation of

to families of patients who are facing imminent
death. The food will be delivered directly to the patient’s room, allowing the family and others to stay by their loved one’s side.
“Many of us know how terribly difficult facing the impending loss of a loved
one can be. This program was established in hopes of assisting families in a
small way during these times,” said Deborah Sutton, director of nursing.
MRH Benefits Local Businesses
Maury Regional Hospital served local businesses last month by providing health screenings. Patrick Harlan, director of business development, organized hospital staff to provide
wellness screenings to employees of Modine
Manufacturing and WireMasters. Approximately

lifting techniques and body mechanics, PSA testing, and nutrition education.
Each person is then counseled with their results.
“Employees from various departments have greatly benefited the community
through this outreach. Their service to the county is invaluable,” said Harlan.
MRH In the Community
Hundreds of community members
were present at the 2008 Family Expo
held on April 26 at the Columbia Mall.
Hospital staff manned booths (right) at
the event and conducted free wellness
screenings for interested visitors.
Many hospital employees were
present for Maury County’s Relay For
Life event at Columbia Academy on
May 2 (left). At press time, the hospital
raised more than $15,500 of the $35,000
raised for the walk. This year’s theme
was “Come on a Safari with Relay.”

In addition, glucose/cholesterol
screenings will be available for $11
via payroll deduction.
Human Resources staff and insurance representatives will be on
site to discuss employee benefits
including the BlueCross BlueShield

well as other voluntary benefits.
Snacks and door prizes will be
given away.
Wells Fargo Rep. Visit in June
Due to tremendous feedback,
the Wells Fargo Representative will
be on-site on June 23, 24 and 25
to once again present the 403(b)
training session “Understanding
Your Investment Options.”

the plan on-line, how to navigate
the Wells Fargo Web site and can
show you valuable online retirement planning tools.
More information on specific
