People being 60 years and older will in 2035 increase from
10% today to 45% in the Nordics, and 20 % globally. The
existing care giving model will not scale. More people will
have to live longer in their own homes.
New technology will facilitate independent
living at home for a longer time and drive new
ways of organizing and producing care, giving
care-services of elderly and disabled people.
According to WHO, the burden of chronic diseases is rapidly increasing
worldwide. In 2001, chronic diseases contributed approximately 60% of
the 56.5 million total reported deaths in the world and approximately 46%
of the global burden of diseases. The proportion of the burden of Non
Communicable Diseases is expected to increase to 57% by 2020.
New technology will facilitate continuously
monitoring, treatment and care giving of people
with chronic diseases where they live and move.
This will improve the quality of care, quality of
patient life and reduce the health care cost.
The continuing imbalance between resources (especially finance
and health care personnel) and demand and greater public
expectations, creates a big need for better efficiency and quality
in diagnostics, intervention, treatment, and care. Development
in new medical technology makes it possible to develop and
implement more cost effective and sustainable models for
diagnosis, interventions and care.
New technology will enable risk reduction of
getting diseases, more precise diagnostics, better
intervention/treatment and continuously high
quality follow up of patients outside the hospital
after hospital treatment. This will improve the
quality of care, quality of patient life and reduce
the health care cost.
The realization that within the hospital sector there are enormous
efficiency gains to be made, which would allow considerable
increases in both the quality and quantity of service delivery for the
same or less expenditure, and the shift from a very cost driven to a
more sustainable health-care model.
New technology will enable more efficient
administration, planning and execution of
treatment and care work processes. This will
improve the patient, relatives and employee
satisfaction and reduce cost.
Aprox x % of the worlds population is today inactive. By focusing
on prevention and motivate people to stay healthier longer by
exercising and be responsible for their own health, people will
stay out of hospitals and care homes, and grow their dignity by
taking care of their own health.
New technology will enable people to improve
wellness and fitness and to prevent getting
diseases. This will reduce the health care
burden and bring dignity in to patients lives.
