Fresno Rainbow Pride celebrated 25
years of LGBT Pride in Fresno and the
Central Valley on Saturday, June 6th.
This year saw many amazing accomplishments and acknowledgements.
Starting with a proclamation that was
signed by the full city council and the
Mayor and presented to Fresno Rainbow
Pride during a council session on
Thursday, June 4th. (see above)
A record breaking crowd came out
and watched the parade, as a record
breaking amount of participants march,
rode and danced down the parade route.
Followed by a record breaking attendance for the Pride Festival.
A live 4 hour radio board cast from
the festival by KFCF 881.FM. Where
festival goers and dignitaries where
interviewed about their experience. The
board cast continued even with a small
fire, downed power-lines as the police
and fire departments maintained safety
and PG&E crew repaired the damage.

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
From the moment our Nation first came together to declare the fundamental
truth that all men are created equal, courageous and dedicated patriots have
fought to refine our founding promise and broaden democracy's reach. Over the
course of more than two centuries of striving and sacrifice, our country has
expanded civil rights and enshrined equal protections into our Constitution.
Through struggle and setback, we see a common trajectory toward a more free
and just society. But we are also reminded that we are not truly equal until every
person is afforded the same rights and opportunities -- that when one of us experiences discrimination, it affects all of us -- and that our journey is not complete
until our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) brothers and sisters are
treated like anyone else under the law.
Across our Nation, tremendous progress has been won by determined individuals who stood up, spoke out, and shared their stories. Earlier this year,
because of my landmark Executive Order on LGBT workplace discrimination,
protections for Federal contractors went into effect, guarding against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Federal Government
is now leading by example, ensuring that our employees and contractors are
judged by the quality of their work, not by who they love. And I will keep calling on the Congress to pass legislation so that all Americans are covered by
these protections, no matter where they work.
In communities throughout the country, barriers that limit the potential of
LGBT Americans have been torn down, but too many individuals continue to
encounter discrimination and unfair treatment. My Administration supports
efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors because the overwhelming scientific evidence demonstrates that it can cause substantial harm. We
understand the unique challenges faced by sexual and gender minorities -- especially transgender and gender non-conforming individuals -- and are taking
steps to address them. And we recognize that families come in many shapes and
sizes. Whether biological, foster, or adoptive, family acceptance is an important
protective factor against suicide and harm for LGBTQ youth, and mental health
experts have created resources to support family communication and involvement.
For countless young people, it is not enough to simply say it gets better; we
must take action too. We continue to address bullying and harassment in our
classrooms, ensuring every student has a nurturing environment in which to
learn and grow. Across the Federal Government, we are working every day to
unlock the opportunities all LGBT individuals deserve and the resources and
care they need. Too many LGBTQ youth face homelessness and too many older
individuals struggle to find welcoming and affordable housing; that is why my
Administration is striving to ensure they have equal access to safe and supportive housing throughout life. We are updating our National HIV/AIDS Strategy
to better address the disproportionate burden HIV has on communities of gay
and bisexual men and transgender women. We continue to extend family and
spousal benefits to legally married same-sex couples. And because we know
LGBT rights are human rights, we are championing protections and support for
LGBT persons around the world.
All people deserve to live with dignity and respect, free from fear and violence, and protected against discrimination, regardless of their gender identity or
sexual orientation. During Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride
Month, we celebrate the proud legacy LGBT individuals have woven into the
fabric of our Nation, we honor those who have fought to perfect our Union, and
we continue our work to build a society where every child grows up knowing
that their country supports them, is proud of them, and has a place for them
exactly as they are.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United
States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution
and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2015 as Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the
United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists, and to celebrate the
great diversity of the American people.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day
of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen, and of the Independence
of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-ninth.

June is Rainbow Pride Month, and
as usual, our GLBT Youth Alliance
members participated in the Fresno
Rainbow Pride Parade and Festival
with all their hearts! On Friday, June
5th, the night before the big event, the
youth finished the festival posters
they had started the week before, and
everyone discussed what their plans
were for the following day. On
Saturday, June 6th, our youth marched
in the parade, carrying large rainbow
flags down the parade route and making a lot of noise, with the goal of
persuading parade watchers to throw
money into their flags! They said
they managed to gather $50 through
their noisy efforts! They were proud
of that accomplishment! The youth
also sold baked goods and frozen
bananas at The Sweet Spot, which is
their annual Pride Festival booth! We
haven't heard how much money the
Sweet Spot earned in donations for
the youth this year, but we're hoping
for the best year ever!
On Friday, June 12th, we met
at our usual meeting location, the
Fireside Room, at the Big Red Church,
to discuss our experiences at the
parade. We all agreed the weather
was a little warmer on June 6th than
we would have wished for, but most
of the group reported having a great
time at the event. Those youth who
worked during the Rainbow Pride
Parade and Festival earned free entry
into the festival, and some of the
youth earned a bit of cash in their
pockets at the end of the day by helping out with the set up and tearing
down procedures of the event! There
were some hard workers in our group!
Some of the youth reported that they
bought rainbow-inspired items from
the vendors that were located in the
Pride Festival area. Several of our
youth mentioned that attending the
Fresno Rainbow Pride Parade and
Festival inspired them to want to
attend other Pride events, including
events in other cities, in the future!
One might say that we had
some special challenges for our youth
group on Friday, June 12th. First, our
group leader, Rachel, AKA Banana,
couldn't run the group because she
had oral surgery earlier in the week
and didn't feel well. And our Grand
Poobah, Jeffery Robinson, was still
recuperating from the weekend
before, so Cherish, who is one of our
consistent and persistent Youth
Alliance attendees, stepped up and ran
group with little assistance! She was
great! But to top off the evening, it
turned out the air conditioning wasn't
working, so we spent an hour and a
half in a sweat box! We offered to end
group and let people go home, but
they didn't want to go! They said they
wanted to stay and talk because group
was one of the few place they can be
themselves and not have to explain
their gender or the pronouns they prefer! That's a testament to the value of
the group and to its creator, Jeffery
Robinson!
We reserve the last night of
the month for a potluck. But let's just
say the potluck was a little lackluster
last month! Come on, y'all! We can
do better than a couple of bags of
chips and some hot soda! We're just
going to have to plan a little harder for
our upcoming potluck! We've had
some great potlucks! We can do it
again with a little ingenuity and forethought!
The Fresno GLBTQ Youth
Alliance meets on Friday nights, at
7:00 PM, in the Fireside Room of the
First Congregational Church (The Big
Red Church), located at 2131 N. Van
Ness, in Fresno! We welcome any
and all GLBTQ youth and their
friends, ages 14-25, to join us on
Friday nights! We have a Facebook
page where anyone can follow us!
Just go to Fresno GLBTQ Youth
Alliance and “like” us so that you can
keep up with our fun!
25 years of Pride!
Best Parade Ever!
Continued from the front page
The Dykes on Bikes as is the tradition in Fresno kicked off the Parade
with the L Riders, followed by a color
guard from the Yosemite Knights and
Boots and Breeches.
There were two horse contingents,
Folklorico dancers, and a New
Orleans's style jazz band made the
festivities extra grand.
Trans-e-motion raised awareness
of Transphobia, hate crimes and suicides within the trans community.
Their entry included images and signs
noting those trans individuals who
had been murdered and featured the
jazz band and a classic Hearst that
formed a New Orleans funeral procession.
Barrios Unidos came in a Star Wars
Themed marching unit with a space
ship float. All with the theme of bring
Sex Education back to the classrooms,
Fresno Stonewall Democrats recreated the historic sign from the
Stonewall inn and Westcare's float
continued the visuals with pictures
and signs from the LGBT struggles
from the Stonewall riots through present day.
Planned Parenthood took home
was a blaze of color and spirit. Gay
Central brought their A Game with
festive balloon costumes of all colors.
The Big Red Church had an extremely long Marching Rainbow flag and
float.
There were 8 churches represented,
numerous political clubs and progressive organizations. Drag Queens
galore, including Drag dignitaries
from The Tucson Freedom Day
Parade.
150+ Wal-Mart associates marched
in pride as the largest corporate sponsor of Fresno Pride, the largest contingent to date for the annual event.
Marching units form Merced and
Bakersfield joined in the hour and
half parade.
Grand Marshals Patsy Del Rey,
Tianna Perez, Jeromie and Rod
Hansen and Robert Griffin were honored from their contributions to the
local community.
Assemblyman Henry T. Perea gave
a beautifully written Proclamation on
behalf of his office, his father, Fresno
County Supervisor. Henry Perea Sr.
brought his granddaughter was photographed by the Fresno Bee enjoying
the parade. Riding together on a vintage fire engine were Council president Oliver Baines and councilperson
Esmeralda Soria.
Club Legends' Pink Party brought
the parade to an end. See pics on p. 8

Ireland became the first nation to
approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote, sweeping aside the opposition of the Roman Catholic Church in
a resounding victory Saturday for the
gay rights movement and placing the
country at the vanguard of social
change.
With the final ballots counted, the
vote was 62 percent in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage, and 38 percent opposed.
The turnout was large - more than
60 percent of the 3.2 million eligible
voters cast ballots, and only one district out of 43 voted the measure
down. Cheers broke out among the
crowd of supporters who had gathered
in the courtyard of Dublin Castle
when Returning Officer Riona Ni
Fhlanghaile announced around 7 p.m.
that the ballot had passed, 1,201,607
votes to 734,300.
Not long ago, the vote would have
been unthinkable. Ireland decriminalized homosexuality only in 1993, the
church dominates the education system, and abortion remains illegal
except when a mother's life is at risk.
ister for communications, said: “This
didn't change Ireland - it confirmed
the change. We can no longer be
regarded as the authoritarian state we
once might have been perceived to be.
This marks the true separation of
church and state.”
Gerry Adams, president of Sinn
Fein, said: “There are two Irelands,
the elite Ireland and the hidden Ireland.
And today the hidden Ireland spoke.”
Gay rights activists around the
world had said a victory would be an
important milestone.
“I think this is a moment that
rebrands Ireland to a lot of folks
around the world as a country not
stuck in tradition but that has an inclusive tradition,” said Ty Cobb, the
international director of the Human
Rights Campaign, a Washington-based
advocacy group.
Late in the campaign, four Catholic
bishops urged parishioners to vote
against the measure. But as ballot
boxes were opened one by one, and
paper yes and no votes stacked up in
front of counters at long tables in a
cavernous hall, optimism among referendum supporters grew.
YES in Ireland is not so much
about equal legal status for us, as it
seems to be in the US, but about equal
human rights and love. There campaigning on both sides of the debate
had been underway for months, with
posters, billboards and commercials.
One opposition commercial said, “You
should be able to have reservations
about gay marriage without being
called a homophobe,” while a commercial supporting same-sex marriage
featured young people encouraging
their parents to vote.

side. Well done.”
For older activists, the moment
marked a profound evolution for their
country. For the world, it suggested
how far the gay rights movement has
come, to make such a significant step
in a country with a storied history as a
religious stronghold.
“Throughout my youth, adolescence and young adulthood, it was a
criminal offense to be gay,” said David
Norris, a 70-year-old Irish senator and
longtime activist.
He said he had faced “total isolation” as a young man.
“There was silence on the subject,”
he said. “It wasn't mentioned in the
newspapers, it wasn't mentioned in the
broadcast media. Then there was a
fear of criminal prosecution, of being
involuntarily placed in a lunatic asylum, losing your job, being socially
destroyed. It was a terrible situation.”
The referendum changes Ireland's
Constitution so that civil marriage
between two people is now legal
“without distinction as to their sex.” It
requires ratification by both houses of
the Irish Parliament and the president.
Though that is a formality, the date
when gay and lesbian couples can
marry will be determined in that process.
There was support for the measure
across the political spectrum, including from Prime Minister Kenny, of the
center-right Fine Gael party, and his
Labour coalition partner, which had
pushed for the referendum. Sinn Fein,
an opposition party, also expressed
support.
Many placed the results in a national context, saying it pointed not only
to change but also to the compassion
and tolerance of the Irish people.

Ireland Votes to Approve
Gay Marriage
But the influence of the church has
waned amid scandals in recent years,
while attitudes, particularly among the
young, have shifted.
“Today Ireland made history,”
Prime Minister Enda Kenny said at a
news conference, adding that “in the
privacy of the ballot box, the people
made a public statement.”
“This decision makes every citizen
equal and I believe it will strengthen
the institution of marriage,” Mr. Kenny
said.
The vote is also the latest chapter in
a sharpening global cultural clash.
Same-sex marriage is surging in the
West, legal in 19 nations before the
Irish vote and 37 American states, but
almost always because of legislative
or legal action. At the same time,
homosexuality is illegal across much
of the Middle East and gay rights are
under renewed attack in Russia and
parts of Africa.
The results showed wide and deep
support for a measure that had dominated public discourse and dinnertable conversation in the months
before the vote on Friday. Supporters
celebrated in gatherings and on the
streets, with the rainbow colors of the
gay rights movement and Yes vote
buttons conspicuously on display.
Surprising many who had predicted
a generational divide, the support cut
across age and gender, geography and
income, early results showed.
With early vote counts suggesting a
comfortable victory, crowds began to
fill the courtyard of Dublin Castle, a
government complex that was once
the center of British rule. By late
morning, the leader of the opposition,
David Quinn, director of the Iona
Institute, conceded the outcome on
Twitter: “Congratulations to the Yes

BALANCE IN ALL THINGS IS THE
KEY TO LIFE
Perhaps as a child you would stroll along the
railroad lines and try to balance yourself by walking
on one of the metal rails. With your arms out at your
sides, the goal was to see how long you could go
before needing to touch your foot down to rebalance
yourself before continuing on. Such is the way we
travel through life-sometimes smooth and steady,
and sometimes flailing about wildly as we twist and
contort trying to keep from falling on our rear ends.
Actually, the whole universe is trying to stay in
balance. It is not just us. Everything in nature looks
to shift the forces that are too strong in one area and
rebalance them into an area that is lacking. Our bodies do the same thing. It happens without you even
being aware of it. Biologists typically refer to this
process of striving for balance as homeostasis.
When you maintain a state of balance in your
life, you are in harmony with the natural order of the
universe. This keeps your spirit youthful. I heard
someone once say, “Enjoy the present moment
because you are younger right now than you will
ever be.” Let your spirit be like that of a baby-eager
to learn with a strong grasp.
We can all benefit from having a firm grip on our
lives. The world gives us so many mixed messages
sending us in every direction that it is easy to lose
our grip and become off balance. Then, we are out
of touch with our true selves-our true nature. One of
the first telltale warning signs that we are getting out
of balance is when we feel ourselves becoming restless.
When this happens, we impulsively feel the
desire to leap first and look later. However, it is at
moments like this that we need to slow down, take
a deep breath, and reestablish an emotional equilibrium in our minds and hearts. This is one way that
we can get back in touch with who we are.
Here is another way to stay centered. This one
involves the use of a visualization technique.
Imagine that your spirit is a strong, healthy tree.
Visualize your feet and toes turning into roots. Sink

your roots down deep into the rich soil of the earth.
Picture your roots traveling all the way down to the
center of the earth. Wrap your roots around the core
of Mother Earth and anchor yourself securely. This
will help you feel grounded and steady.
With this new sense of stability, bring your
mind's awareness to your upper body now. Imagine
your arms as tree limbs-strong and mighty. Reach
out your branches to the sky. On the ends of your
branches, visualize the old leaves falling off as
fresh, green leaves sprout up to replace them. Let
the sunshine fill those new leaves with the energy of
life. You feel balanced and centered.
Years ago, a woman sought my counsel because
she was unhappy with her life. She was laid off, in
a loveless marriage, and eating a steady diet of junk
food. Her life was out of balance. Her days were
spent slouched on the sofa staring at the TV. At
times, she would even watch TV all night long
neglecting her family.
Over time, she was able to realize that her life
was in need of drastic change. With the support of
her family, she acknowledged that there was a problem, and together we designed a behavior plan that
was reasonable and agreeable to all. It was not until
she made an effort to improve her life that she found
the internal motivation she needed to bring harmony
back into her mind and soul.
Your body craves homeostasis. It is your biological nature to seek balance. You don't even have
to work at it. It's as easy as letting go of your own
stubborn will and letting nature take its course.
Going with the loving flow of harmony is not a
fight; it is a surrendering. And, yet, all around there
are people who are struggling to find harmony and
balance. They are on a misguided path. You cannot
force your way into a state of harmony any more
than you can order yourself to have fun.
To illustrate this, let's return to the image posed
earlier of the balancing act performed on the railroad tracks. When you start to lose your balance
while walking on the rail, you typically start waving
your arms wildly as you desperately try to right
yourself. Ironically, the more you flail about, the
more you over extend yourself and fall. Put another
way, trying too hard can be throw you off balance.
So, how do you know when your spirit is in balance? Well, people who are balanced are typically
reasonable in thought and action, are not emotionally bound to their own ideas, are patient with themselves and others, grounded by their spirituality,
flexible to change, view everything in life as an
opportunity to learn and grow, and cares about the
wellbeing of others.
Today's Loving Suggestion: On a piece of
paper, write down all the major areas of your life
including: financial, social, emotional, health,
career, attitude, personality, living area, spiritual,
recreational, psychological, etc.
Are all of these things in balance? If each of
these items on your list were spokes on a wheel,
would some of those spokes be shorter than others
causing the wheel to be misshapen? Is there need for
some adjustment?
Let your energy be like that of the universe. Stay
in balance by surrendering yourself to the wisdom
of Mother Nature. That is the key to life.

As anyone who doesn't live on
another planet knows, there's a “kill
the gays” initiative floating around
California's political stratosphere. It's
blatantly unconstitutional and the state
attorney general went to court to block
it being circulated.
It's spawned a number of countermeasures, including the “Ban
Jackasses Act.” One other initiative
has caught my fancy.
The measure would strip tax exempt
status and First Amendment rights
away from any religious organization
that engages in politics, including lobbying; willfully conceals evidence of
any crime or suborns perjury; or acts
as a recruitment center for terrorists
bound for foreign lands.
Now, that's an initiative I could get

and brilliant, and often terribly troubled. In New York, Louisville, and
London she drove men and women
wild with desire, and her youth blazed
with sex. But her lesbian love affairs
made her the subject of derision and
drove a doctor to try to cure her. After
the speed and pleasure of her youth,
the toxicity of judgment coupled with
her own anxieties led to years of
addiction and breakdowns.
Henrietta rode the cultural cusp as a
muse to the Bloomsbury group, the
daughter of the ambassador to England
during the rise of Nazism, the seductress of royalty and athletic champions, and a pre-Stonewall figure who
never buckled to convention.
Henrietta's audacious physicality
made her unforgettable in her own

chapter in America's twentieth century.

Following are some of the many
new, interesting GLBT-themed
books. They are not reviews - they’re
book descriptions provided by the
publishers.
About Dad chronicles my personal
journey as a father, raising my children in what was at the time a very
unconventional home. It's a raw and
honest portrayal of life as a gay father
back in the day…the only sugar coating is on the gingerbread houses we
made one year for Christmas.
It's not easy for any parent; we all
struggle in our own way. But when I
was going through a divorce, coming
out as a gay man, and being a primary
caregiver for my children, there was
no one out there telling our story.
There were no role models, no support
groups, and no hashtags.
While I tried to “do it all,” I couldn't
force it to work. I eventually embarked
on a different way of life, a journey to
find happiness for my entire family.
I was a Single Gay Dad (SGD) long
before it was accepted, popular, or
dare I say embraced like it is today.
Life as a SGD was met with a lot of
resistance not only from places you'd
expect but also from those I thought
would support me.
After a lot of convincing from a
friend, I decided to write my story. It's
a story of understanding self, knowing
what you want out of life, and doing
what you need to do to make your
family happy. I hope this book helps
others knock down the barriers that
hold them back, cast away hurtful
judgments from others, and have the
confidence to embrace change. I hope
it inspires people to live life on their
terms.

FREE-LOVE BANQUET
Dear Uncle Barbie,
I am a 52-year-old woman, and I've
got a bit of a glitch. I am (for the most
part) a happily married woman with a
pretty terrific husband named, Jack
(not his real name). He's 67 years old.
The problem is that I want SEX!
Not a ton but at the very least, once a
week. Twice would be better! Jack
takes Viagra. And, let me tell you, I
could probably get it cheaper down on
1st Street! It seems like Jack is just not
interested. We have discussed this and
he really doesn't give me a viable reason why he's not interested. I feel so...
undesirable and old.
Meanwhile, at our club, a fellow
member named, Henry, is actively
flirting with me. Man, the attention is
great! I know that I could probably
arrange a liaison. But, then, oh crap;
the guilt would be too much. Plus, I
would not be able to tell my best
friend, Jack. I have a vibrator, but do
not know the battery size. (I kid you
not; it's a weird size that I've never
seen.) I hate to ask Jack, as I don't
want to emasculate him.
I know Jack has seen Henry flirt
with me. (And, let's be honest, me
with him). Jack has told me to tell
Henry to knock it off, or he would.
How do I resolve this? I really do love
my hubby and don't wish to hurt his
feelings. But, I am not ready to give
up the sexual part of myself. Plus, let's
face it, the attention makes me feel
great!
Signed Irritated Mate
Hello Irritant,
This seems to be an issue of personal needs and personal boundaries.
You need to find some way of satisfying your need for sex and love, while
at the same time maintaining marital
boundaries.
Let's first address your need for sex
and affection. It is perfectly normal to
want to satisfy your sexual desires. It
is likened to the feeling of hunger; you
naturally want to eat something. The
question is…what is good for you to
eat? If you satisfy your appetite with
unhealthy food, you will do your body
harm. Likewise, you could hurt yourself emotionally if you satisfy your
sexual appetite with unhealthy relationships.
I refer, of course, to the flirtation
with the man from your club. Sure, he
may show up just when you are in
need of attention, and he may seem to
have an impeccable sense of timing.
(Or, to phrase it more colorfully, he
arrives in the "dick" of time.) But, just
remember, on the other hand--is your
wedding ring.
All this flirtation may seem innocent to you. However, the other man
may interpret the situation differently.
And, based on what you have written,
your husband is showing signs of jealousy. Some people think it is flattering
or even cute to make their mates jealous. I disagree. It actually creates feelings of mistrust and insecurity which
eventually erodes the foundation of
the relationship. Don't go there, girlfriend.
I am a big believer in clear and honest communication. In that light, I suggest that you sit down with your mate
and calmly discuss both of your sexual
needs--or lack thereof. In the spirit of
politeness, you might want your husband to express his needs first. (If the
situation were reversed and he was the
one asking for my advice, I would ask
him to let you speak first.)
As you listen, rid your mind of any
judgmental thoughts. I know it may be
difficult for you, but try not to take his
sexual disinterest personally. It may
not be about you. I may be a condition, physical or mental, that affect
only his sexuality. When you feel that
you have a clear understanding of his
point of view, ask him to listen to you
with the same non-judgmental attitude
that you showed him. If he is not willing to listen to you, it will be nearly
impossible for the two of you to work
this out together. In such a case, a
counselor would be necessary to facilitate a meaningful discussion.
It would be prudent to have a medical doctor examine your husband to
explore the possibility of impotence.
This may be a medical issue with a
physiological basis. (As a doctor of
psychology, I cannot advise you in the
area of medicine.)
Meanwhile, you are left struggling
with your strong sexual appetite. You
stated that you have a vibrator. I think
that masturbation is a viable option. It
could even be considered psychosexually healthy for you. If you are concerned about hurting his feelings by

Thousands are believed to have
returned to Ireland to take part in the
vote; plane tickets from London
Friday night sold out.
Ireland's paradigm shift from a
quasi theocracy to a leader on gay
rights was the result of a sustained
campaign by gay activists. They set
up a network of support groups
around the country and fused a grassroots movement with aggressive
social media outreach and a registration drive that brought in more than
100,000 new voters since last
November. Tens of thousands of
doors were knocked on, extensive
leafleting campaigns took place and
posters were ubiquitous.
“Commentators just don't seem to
have grasped that this has been the
culmination of a 10-year campaign to
change attitudes in this country,” said
Colm O'Gorman, chief executive of
Amnesty International (Ireland) and a
leading gay rights campaigner.
Leaders on both sides tried to strike
a conciliatory note, though they said
some issues remain to be sorted out,
from rules on surrogacy to the ability
leaving him out, then, by all means,
include him. Why not? Let him manipulate the vibrator for you.
This level of intimacy may very
well lead to feelings of closeness that
could strengthen your marriage.
Instead of thinking of this as a problem, make it a joint effort that is mutually beneficial for both of you. I am
sure that he would not object to a
closer relationship with you. Remind
him of this benefit.
If his low sex drive has a psychological root, then there may be several
causes--depression is the first thing
that comes to mind. It is actually quite
typical for people suffering from
depression to lose their libidos. A
combination of anti-depressant medication and cognitive/behavioral therapy might prove useful.
From another perspective, he may
have temporarily lost his sexual attraction to you. That option--painful as it
is--needs to be considered. There are
countless ways to rekindle the fires of
romance. Since we are limited to the
confines of this advice column, I will
cut to the chase and tell you the technique I like best--reenact your best
date with your mate.
This technique of reenacting a passionate encounter with your husband
is designed to bring to mind the characteristics that originally attracted you
to your mate. Think back to when the
two of you first met. Write down what
you love about him and ask him to
write down the traits he loves about
you. This can be a very rewarding
experience for both of you. Please
write me back and let me know how it
goes.

of religious groups to hew to their

“The personal stories of people's
own testimonies, as to their difficulties growing up being gay certainly
struck a chord with people,” said Jim
Walsh, an Irish senator who opposed
the marriage referendum, during a
television interview.
“I would like today to not get back
into the arguments that we had during
the campaign but to wish them well,”
he said. “But I think that going forward we will need to address issues
which are going to arise.”
In a news release, the Iona Institute
congratulated the yes side for “a very
professional campaign that in truth
began long before the official campaign started.”
But it also said “we will continue
to affirm the importance of the biological ties and of motherhood and
fatherhood” and urged the government to “address the concerns voters
on the No side have about the implications for freedom of religion and
freedom of conscience.”
Nick O'Connell, 42, who is from a
rural area in County Kilkenny in the
Irish Midlands, was cradling a celebratory drink in a Dublin bar, the
Back Lounge. He said he had been
too afraid to come out as gay until his
mid-20s.
“Today I'm thinking of all those
young people over the years who
were bullied and committed suicide
because of their sexuality. This vote
was for them, too.”
He added: “This is different from
other countries because it was the
people who gave it to us, not a legislature.”

It is the start of summer and a
reminder to you to be proud of who
you are. You are an amazing model of
health and well-being. You've worked
so hard to get straight A's on your fitness report card. Let's take a walk
through all the Pride festivals around
the country this summer and show off
your great work.
Those six pack abs are just the reason to take off your T-shirt. Sit ups
and crunches have done wonders for
your midsection. Whether you're 62
years young or 22 years old everyone
likes to look at a nice set of abdominal muscles.
Go ahead and order that juicy hamburger and those golden fries from
that greasy spoon vendor. You've
been careful to eat plenty of nutritious
meals over the last year. That is evident from your low cholesterol level.
You've earned a good day to eat some
bad food. And don't forget the deliciously delightful dessert. You really
were good these last twelve months.
Have a lot of food fun!
Get on that dance floor and bust a
move. The pied piper is playing the
great hits from the 1980s and it is
futile to resist. You've got this and the
endurance too. All that jogging on the
treadmill and all those hikes on the
trails have given you the stamina to
cut a rug for many a song.
Show the world your wonderful
smile as you meander through the
crowds of festival goers. A great set
