GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION
Providing Care to Christians in the Holy Land
Every year on Good Friday, a collection is taken up in every Catholic
church to support the people and places of the Holy Land. Christians
of the Holy Land rely heavily on the help that comes to them during
this special moment of the year. It is important that they care for the
Christians living in the Holy Land in order to maintain a Christian presence in a land that is filled with a majority Jewish and Islamic population. The Good Friday Collection is applied to the following programs:
Faith, Memory and Culture of The Holy Places, Social, Charitable, Educational, Scientific, and Pastoral activities, as well as Liturgical, Ecumenical and Communications Programs.
The Holy Land Franciscans are counting on your financial help to
assist them in providing presence, care and service.

During this holy time of Easter, we gather to celebrate the great mystery
of new life in the Risen Christ. We have encountered our Lord and begin
anew with grateful hearts. God has blessed each and every one of us.
With blessings comes responsibility. A gift to your parish is an expression of gratitude, a gift of faith. In addition to your regular Sunday offering, please remember your parish family with a special financial gift
this Easter.
Your generosity provides the necessary resources for us to meet our
obligations, to maintain our facilities, and to grow our parish programs
and ministries.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN
It is safe to keep your child’s personal information
personal
If your children give out personal information over the Internet, not only is it easy to track, it is tough to completely
remove. Emphasize to them how important it is that they
keep personal information private. Make sure that they
have a strong username and password that does not reveal anything personal. Encourage them not to give out
their e-mail address, if they have one. If your children tell
you that they have given out personal information online,
contact your Internet Service Provider or the site where
the information is posted to see what you can do to have
it removed. For more information: www.NetSmartz.org.

Registration for a Quality Catholic Education
If you are not enrolled in Saint Joseph the Worker School (Pre- K

for your child(ren) in a Catholic School. Daily religion classes, and the

grow academically with the emphasis on a strong curriculum presented by experienced certified teachers. Besides the academic classes, the
students have Art, Music and P.E, which have been eliminated in some

PARISH LIFE
RCIA
Friends in Christ,
Today we completed the Scrutinies with the Third Scrutiny at the
9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. masses.
Now, raised up by our example and prayers, our Elect are ready to
complete their journey to the Easter Vigil and the Sacraments of Initiation. The three gospel readings for the passed three Sundays are very
important in the RCIA process and to the Church. They bring the message of conversion, to change life. The woman at the well becomes a
disciple who brings the living water of the good news to the town. The
man born blind is born with original sin and then it is washed away.
Because of his newfound vision or belief he becomes a disciple of
Christ. Christ who orders the stone removed brings Lazarus to life and
then orders them to untie him and set him free; resurrection and new
life. All who witnessed this miracle are freed and their lives are
changed. This is a time to focus on God’s love and forgiveness, not on
our sinfulness. As we reflect on these Scriptures look for changes within ourselves. Where do you have to change for the living water to flow,
to have new vision, to bring resurrection into your life? We focus on
the freedom of being called a child of God, and anything that keeps us
from living that vocation to its fullest. Who do I have to go to for forgiveness and whom do I have to forgive? How can I be a good steward
of forgiveness?
Holy Week begins, next Sunday with Palm Sunday. We celebrate Jesus’
triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. Palms are laid before him and the
people celebrate. On Palm Sunday we take palms and go in procession
into the church, celebrating and singing. The gospel reading is the Passion of Christ, and so Holy Week begins.
On Palm Sunday you will be able pick up palms at the door of the Conference Center nearest the Sherman Way parking entrance. Join us
there to start our Palm Sunday celebration. The palms will be blessed
and we will process along Sherman Way and enter the church through
the Sherman Way doors. The bigger the crowd the better the celebration. This year we have put the Gospel reading on the screens in the
church. Pay attention to the screens follow along as the gospel is read.
It is a long reading and there are parts for you, the assembly, to read
aloud. We do not often get to participate in the gospel readings, please
participate and lend your voice to this reading with vigor, let it be
heard!
Please pray for our Elect and Candidates, they are appearing on the
screens in the church, please pray especially for them:

St. Joseph the Worker
WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY
St. Joseph the Worker is a special place, where we are
touched daily by God’s presence among us. Rooted in
the legacy of our founding parishioners, we have become
the dynamic faith community we cherish today. A gift to
the future of our parish will support its spiritual richness
and many good works for generations to come.
Please remember St. Joseph the Worker in your will or
trust. To learn more about planned giving opportunities
that can benefit St. Joseph the Worker, please contact
the Parish Center or H. Richard Closson, Director, Trust
and Estate Programs. Archdiocese of Los Angeles: (213)

PARISH REGISTRATION
To promote a spirit of belonging, we encourage all who
worship here to become registered parishioners. Having
registered makes the process much easier when it is
time for infant baptism, school or religious education
enrollment, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or
confirmation sponsor, and funerals. Simply attending
Mass here does not make you a registered parishioner.
Please call or visit the Parish Center to request a registration form or complete the form online at the parish
website: www.sjwchurch.com. Also, please contact the
Parish Center if you have a new address or phone number. The staff is able to serve you better if the parish
records are accurate.
REQUESTING USE OF PARISH FACILITIES
Parish and School groups that would like to reserve any
facility in the parish must contact Angela Escobar in the
Parish Center (818) 341-6634, ext. 1003. Only rooms
reserved in advance are open. If your group needs to
cancel a reservation, please let Angela know so that the
room can be made available to another group. Also, if
your group needs a particular room arrangement, please
bring a copy of the requested floor plan to the Parish
Center a week ahead.
BULLETIN AND MASS ANNOUNCEMENTS
The deadline (strictly observed) for submission of Bulletin and Mass announcements is the previous Monday at
noon. Deliver a copy of the bulletin or Mass announcement to the Parish Center or email it to Angela Escobar:
[email protected]. To submit a photo to
accompany the bulletin text, send a digital file (jpeg or
TIF), color or black/white, 300 dpi. See the front cover
for the parish mailing address and fax number. For more
information please contact Angela Escobar, (818) 3416634, ext. 1003.
