om spirit The healing touch Escape to Dorset’s Middle Piccadilly rural spa retreat for an easy introduction to shamanism Shamanic healers are conductors of healing energy, or energy from the spiritual realm. Calling upon spiritual ‘helpers’ such as power animals, angels, inner teachers, your higher self, or other spiritual forces, it can be used as treatment for a range of emotional and physical conditions. But it can also be quite daunting, or confusing, for some folks more used to visiting the GP when times get tough. Middle Piccadilly spa retreat, in Dorset’s gorgeous countryside, is a great place to indulge yourself, not just for a spot of yoga and relaxation, but also for your first shamanic fix. The centre - described as a small place with a big heart - specialises in providing alternative therapies alongside more conventional massage and other treatments. It’s shamanic healing treatment (£80) is a wonderful introductory adventure for all, complete with chanting, drum banging, rattle shaking and calling on animal spirits. Once you’ve had a chance to de-stress with one of the more usual treatments or facials on offer (there’s a huge choice to pick from), it’s an ideal way to experience this truly unique and authentic place. And, outside, if you want to get on more familiar ground, you’ll find an amazing yurt where you can roll out your mat for some blissful yoga. It’s a genuinely healing place to be, and it’s family run too. The owner’s mother, Eliana Harvey, is known as a gifted shamanka (a female shaman), medicine woman and healer; she founded the Shamanka Traditional School of Women’s Shamanism. Middle Piccadilly has been helping stressed-out city-types relax for about 20 years, so you’re in safe and very knowledgeable hands. The home cooked vegetarian food is delicious too, fresh and full of goodness for body, mind and soul, you’ll leave here with a spring in your step. Even if you’re not ready to go on a yoga spirit journey with the shaman then it’s fine to just come here and press the pause button on life. Chill out, indulge yourself on the treatment table, and recharge your batteries. And if you are looking for more of a spiritual quest then you’re definitely in the right place.
