mipcom 2015
Monique Simard
Over the course of our 20-year history,
the SODEC’s dedication to staying
up-to-date and relevant has allowed us to
be a part of the success of many Québec
productions. Our repeated presence at
mipcom is proof not only of our desire
to see business opportunities realized
but also of our ongoing commitment to
a shift towards digital productions and
multi-screen content distribution.
Québec’s audiovisual production
market is booming and is truly a force
to be reckoned with. In 2014, Canada’s
production grew by 2.9%, for a total
of $2.67 billion. This result can be
largely attributed to Québec’s industry,
representing 33% of that growth, for
a total value of $876 million. These
numbers speak for themselves and can
certainly attest to the industry’s strength
and vigour.
The Société de développement des
entreprises culturelles (SODEC) is
proud to be a part of mipcom for a
4th year, as we work to help Québec
productions reach further and further
beyond our province’s borders. mipcom
is an essential event for any audiovisual
producer looking to reach the global
market and, through Espace Québec, the
Québec businesses present will have the
chance to do just that: showcase their
expertise to the world and promote their
productions.
2
This market could not be as successful
as it is without the support of the
Association québécoise de la production
médiatique (AQPM). By joining forces
with the SODEC, we can give access
to such a precious moment to many
Québec audiovisual producers. For that,
we thank you, AQPM.
I would also like to thank the Fonds
Capital Culture Québec – Fonds
d’investissement de la culture et des
communications, Raymond Chabot
Grant Thornton, the National Bank of
Canada, Télé-Québec and Cirque du
Soleil for their invaluable support in
helping us bring this large-scale event
to life. I wish us all a great mipcom.
May this year’s event give you,
Québec audiovisual content producers,
the chance to spread your wings
even further!

Our partnership with SODEC, at Espace
Québec, is part of AQPM’s efforts to
encourage and support our members’
development of audiovisual content for
the international market. Our presence
allows for a wider distribution of our
cultural products.
AQPM is proud to contribute to the
success of an industry that promotes
our culture, with our television
production as a worthwhile ambassador.
I wish you all an excellent mipcom, full
of great meetings and ideas, and plenty
of interesting projects to be brought to
life in the near future.
Our television production is diverse
and successful. Through our creativity,
inventiveness and audacity, we have
carved out a niche for ourselves.
Our unique creative approach gives
Québec productions a distinctive and
recognizable flavour. Case in point?
Out of Canada’s ten most loved
productions in 2014, seven of them came
from Québec. We continue to stand
out, year after year, despite changes
turning our industry upside down,
viewers consumption habits changing,
business models needing redefinition and
increasingly fragile funding.
In 2014, AQPM’s members produced
content for more than 700 million dollars,
almost 3 quarters of a billion dollars.
AQPM continues to support, represent
and accompany Québec producers
creating or cocreating for all kinds of
screens. Last year, children and youth
programming increased by 11.2%, forcing
us to continually reinvent ourselves and
develop new multiplatform strategies.

1R2D is a vision of TV,
especially on-screen comedy.
Humour is often said to be
cultural, but we believe it
to be universal! That is why,
for over 25 years now, we
have worked to build bridges
between Québec and the rest
of the world, adapting foreign
formats to Québec television
and exporting series made in
Québec to other countries.
With the popularity of our
series, both in Québec and in
more than 130 countries, we
can definitely call ourselves
laughter specialists.
