Beginner: Must be able to thread sewing machine and wind bobbin(s). Must have knowledge of sewing terms, be
able to read a pattern, and be capable of performing basic sewing machine techniques.
Intermediate: Must have good command of sewing skills, knowledge and operation of sewing machine and
sewing techniques, and be able to read and follow pattern instructions without assistance.
Advanced: Must be proficient at most sewing techniques in the subject area, including knowledge of and using
many sewing machine features.
Look for the skill level rating of each class.

project provides a place to carry your iron open up and you will have an ironing

D. Artistic T: Create Your Own
Flattering and Embellished Knit Top Londa Rohlfing (Advanced Skill Level) Fit,
construct with upscale basic techniques and
embellish neckline of a knit top.
Class Fee: $30 Fee includes: Londa’s Terrific
Knit Top 'T' Talking Pattern™ (with the added
benefit of photos and audio of every step at the
associated website), and additional Chico Twist
directions. Additional specific supplies are
needed including fabric and some specific
notions which are available from Londa's
website as a Notions Kit for $28.50. Pre- class
preparations are necessary. You will be sent a
full Supply List and detailed instructions that
must be completed ahead of time. Please plan
accordingly.
F. Patchwork Design - Pat Sturtzel
(Intermediate Skill Level) Explore infinite
possibilities of patchwork designs through a
series of exercises. Design quilt blocks that can
stand alone or be used in combination with
other blocks. The process is based on a grid
system creating different arrangements.
Creation of cutting templates, calculation of
fabric yardage and color schemes will be
explored. As time allows, sample blocks will
be sewn by hand or with a sewing machine.
Class Fee: $45 Fee includes: Handouts to
continue explorations at home, construction
paper, template material and use of instructor's
tools.
E. Sew Our Selvages Pillow - Jennifer Klee
(Beginner Skill Level) Never feel guilty again
about selvages. Take those selvage collections
from your stash or retrieve them from the trash
and create attractive home dec pillows! You will
choose the style of log cabin variations to create
your design, as well as the size of your pillow
project. Class Fee: $27 Fee includes:
Instructions to piece top and complete pillow.

Quick & Easy Quilted Table Runner Candy Simms (Beginner Skill Level) Use 2 1/2"
fabric strips to make an interesting and simple
table runner. This is a good project if you are just
starting your quilting career! You'll learn to make
accurate 1/4" seams, pressing techniques, chain
piecing, accurate rotary cutting, how to
"sandwich" a quilt, and making and applying
binding. Class Fee: $25 Fee includes: pattern

Times Two - Lynnette LeGette
(Intermediate Skill Level) Love surprises? Sew
one simple block (not pictured) and watch magic
happen! This project results with perfect points,
matching seams, and an entirely different design
(picture below)! Learn techniques for accurate
rotary cutting, sewing consistent 1/4" seams,
matching seams, and proper pressing. This
project is fun, fast, and so very satisfying! Class

String Pieced Star - Debbie Stidham
(Beginner Skill Level) String piecing is an old
way of using scraps to make quilt blocks. Use
up your piles of leftovers and create a wall
hanging, table topper or baby quilt. Project
consists of 16 blocks. You will complete at
least one each of the three different blocks (full
background, full star, half and half for the
points.) Class Fee: $20 Fee includes: pattern
and 16 bases for blocks Project Size: 32”

Poppy Moon - Dina Buckley (Beginner
Skill Level) Needle felting is an exciting art
form which is easier to do than traditional wet
felting. You will recreate the full blue moon
with an abstract poppy field in the foreground. A
comprehensive discussion about ideal wools and
bases will be explained. When completed, Poppy
Moon can either be framed or sewn into your
favorite home decor item. Class Fee: $30. Fee
includes: wool roving, wool batting, needle
felting foundation, embroidery needle, and finger
weight wool yarn Project Size: 11” x 14”
K. Scrappy Pineapple Quilt Blocks - Sheila
Reinke (Intermediate Skill Level) : Do you
have a ‘bucket list’ of quilts you have always
wanted to make? If so, I bet the Pineapple Block
is on that list. Creative Grids® has released a
new ruler to make this block much easier to
construct. In this class you will learn how to
make the Pineapple Block using this ruler. You
can make your blocks 6, 8, or 10 inches. Class

Damour (Intermediate Skill Level)
What’s the difference between a $25 pillow
and a $250 pillow? It’s all in the
embellishments and finishing touches! Learn
pleating, piping with 2 sizes, corners and
zippers while you complete a pillow with all
those techniques. Let Pam share with you her
latest projects and more tips to a perfect pillow!

assorted colors with three coordinating fabrics,

N. Three Baby Layette Items by Serger Sandy Davis (Advanced Skill Level)
Create a baby's layette with these adorable bonnet
and bootie heirlooms using the rolled hem
features and flatlock stitch on your serger!
Embellished for the baby boy or girl in your life
with blue, pink or white Perle Crown rayon serger
thread. Class Fee: $45 Fee includes: instructions,
patterns, edging, flannel, thread, fabric, ribbon,

M. Lattice Bag - Marjorie Baker (Beginner
Skill Level) The “quilt” made in this class can
be finished into a table mat or tote bag. As a
bag, it makes a great tote for quilts or other
larger projects. Join Marjorie as she shares how
to simplify piecing and eliminate sewing
individual triangle blocks. Once you make one,
you’ll want to make more. Class Fee: $15 Fee

O. Devoted Jacket with Scarf Neckline -
Q. Pinwheel Pirouette - Jennifer Klee
Londa Rohlfing (Advanced Skill Level )
Create your one-of-a-kind jacket on a base
of 'fabric' from a 3XL sweatshirt. The jacket
features a long scarf as the neckline/center
front finish. Class Fee: $50 Fee includes:
Londa’s Devoted Talking Pattern™ (with the
added benefit of photos and audio of every step
at the associated website) and stay tapes
as needed during the class. Pre- class
preparation is necessary. Detailed 'homework'
instructions will be mailed along with pattern
and sweatshirt before class. The homework
must be completed ahead of time. The choice
of three sweatshirt base colors is offered: black,
grape and ice blue. Please plan accordingly.
(Intermediate Skill Level) Start with a jelly
roll (or equivalent fabric) and add coordinating
fabrics to make this pinwheel design with a
twist. You will have the option to create half
square triangle blocks for an additional border
to make quilt 72” x 72” (shown) or to use in a

P. Fabric Dying and Creation of Color
Gradations - Pat Strutzel (Intermediate Skill
Level) Explore the basics of fabric dying using
Procion MX fiber reactive dyes and low water
immersion. Dye 6 yards of fabric (24 fat
quarters) using an assortment of manipulations
as well as a series of color gradations. Class
Fee: $70 Fee includes: instructions to continue
explorations at home, fabric dye, chemicals and
use of instructor’s tools. Optional: $30 for 6
yards of white cotton fabric, pre-washed and
ready to use.
(Intermediate Skill Level) Join us and learn
this technique of sewing/quilting in a circle. In
addition, learn to “quilt-as-you-go” plus the
‘Fun and Done’ method to join blocks and
complete the quilt. You must bring an

York (Beginner Skill Level) Looking for a
quick project with award worthy results? Join
us for this quilt top in a day project, by creating
a Rail Fence quilt using a jelly roll. This
project is perfect for beginners or a good way
for experienced quilters to play with basic
ideas and make their own unique design. Class

for her easy program on how to design, sew
and complete your original window treatment.
Whether you choose to do a rod pocket or
board mounted valance, whether it’s gathered
or pleated, learn the steps! Identifying the
elements of your window treatment, how to cut
the fabric, and the steps in fabrication. Custom
windows are easy, when you approach them
one step at a time! Class Fee: $55 Fee

X. Indigo Stars - Sheila Reinke (Intermediate
Skill Level) The Indigo Stars quilt is universal, as
it’s great for spring or summer and appeals to all.
This quilt could be taken to a picnic, college dorm
or as a throw over wicker furniture in an all-season
room. You will love sewing with this 100% cotton
fabric, which has a denim/chambray design
without the weight. Class Fee: $64 Fee includes:
pattern and instructions, fabric kit for quilt top plus
binding fabric. Project Size: 51” x 59”
Y. Serger Basics & Beyond - Marjorie Baker
(Beginner Skill Level) Own a serger? Does
threading it overwhelm you? How about thread
tensions? If you answered yes to any or all of the
questions, then this is the class for you. Participants
will learn machine parts, threading tips, tension
adjustments, and differential feed. Stitch samples
and three quick serger projects will be completed as
participants become familiar with the machine’s
operation. By the end of class you will be able to
sew a balanced overlock stitch and also know how to
adjust the machine to do a rolled edge hem. The
techniques learned can be added to other projects for
more creativity. Class Fee: $15 Fee includes: fabric
for samples, tapestry needle, instructions for three
simple serger projects: hanger cover, tissue cover,
and scrap catcher.

Instructor Biographies
Marjorie Baker from Georgetown, is the State Coordinator for the Kentucky Master Volunteer in Clothing
Construction Program. She holds a Master’s Degree in Clothing and Textiles and enjoys sewing clothing and colorful
quilting projects. She has over 30 years of teaching experience in sewing and needlework classes.
Dina Buckley from Brandenburg, is an accomplished teacher and fiber artist, having won national and international
awards. Her work has sold in museum gift shops across the US, notably in Visions Quilt and Textile Museum located
in San Diego, CA. Her passion comes from teaching and viewing the creative process as a mutual exchange between
teacher and participant.
Carol Byers from Cincinnati, Ohio, has a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education, 60 hrs of quilting,
embroidery, paper piecing, square in applique classes. Software expertise: Pro Q Designer, Electric Quilt 7. She
operates the Viking Diamond Deluxe embroidery machine, Handi Quilter 16th quilting machine with a robotic interface
mounted on frame.
Pam Damour from Champlain, New York, is known as the “Decorating Diva.” She is co-author of “Pillow Talk” and
has over 30 years as in interior designer and sewing professional. She’s a member of SEA, ASG, and AQS. Pam is the
host of her own web show on sewontv.com, “At Home with the Decorating Diva.” She is the producer of 13 how-to
DVDs and much more.
Sandy Davis from Louisville, is a licensed Martha Pullen Beginning Sewing and Serger teacher, a certified Sulky™
Sit & Sew teacher , a certified Palmer/Pletsch™ Beginning Sewing teacher and an Emeritus Master Clothing
Volunteer with 21 years teaching experience. She loves to share her sewing experiences of 45+ years with her
students, easing their fear of learning new and challenging techniques.
Judy Heeger from Independence has been a Kentucky Extension Homemaker for 25 years. She started sewing in 4-H
making her own clothes and later her children’s clothes. As a volunteer she makes preemie blankets, cancer caps, and
seat belt pillows.
Jennifer Klee from Versailles, learned to sew as a 4-H’er and has never stopped! She taught sewing to 4-H youth and
adults during her 30+ years as a Kentucky Extension Agent, and recently retired.
Lynnette LeGette from Louisville, Sewing enriched her life in many ways since 1968 with experiences in clothing,
home décor, alterations, and quilting. She enjoys sharing sewing skills and her passion for sewing and quilting. There
is no greater reward than to see students excel and have fun.
Sheila Reinke is from Omaha, Nebraska. Sheila started sewing in the 2nd grade and her love for this art continues to
grow. Through many years of 4-H she found many ways to be creative. She taught her first quilting class in 1991 and
hasn't stopped quilting since. She sponsors 7 quilt retreats every year were she loves to see others get that creative bug.
Londa Rohlfing from Savoy, Illinois, after obtaining her B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Illinois,
Londa worked in interior design, then managed a craft store - and along the way started to offer dressmaking. Londa
published her own line of patterns featuring heirloom sewing for women in the late 80's. In 1990 she opened her own
fabric store/sewing machine dealership. She now offers top quality knits and needle art-related products worldwide
through her website. She travels the country to vend and teach at various sewing expos, sewing guilds, quilting guilds,
and shops to share her creative sewing techniques.
Candy Simms from Versailles, is a Certified Master Clothing Volunteer who has been sewing since she was 9 or 10
and quilting for about 20 years. She enjoys teaching adults and children to sew and quilt.
Debbie Stidham from Burlington, learned to sew at age 5 on her great granny’s treadle machine. In college, she
earned extra money hemming skirts, making prom and wedding dresses. Debbie is a retired high school math teacher.
Pat Sturtzel from Louisville, has sewn and made quilts for over 30 years. During the past five years, Pat has been
mentored by Jane Dunnewold, author of several books on art cloth and textile surface design techniques. She teaches a
variety of fiber art processes as a visiting artist in schools and community centers, including work with female
refugees.
Angie York from Eddyville, is the Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent for Lyon County in Western
Kentucky. She loves cooking, spending time with family and sewing. She began sewing at an early age, mostly in
clothing construction. Just after college she tried her hand at quilting and has been hooked ever since.
