We are going old school this fall with a little fashion
forward — Rug Hooking, Needle Tatting, Doll Making,
Redwork! And more!
There will be several classes that will give you the
chance to spruce up your home for the holidays … new
tree skirts, new table runners. How about a bed
runner? They are the new hot trend this season! Why
not make some gifts for family and friends this year?
How about knitted gifts this year? We have several
terrific knitting classes … felted mittens and clogs or
learn how to knit and make scarves for everyone on
your list.
We are pleased to welcome a new teacher to our group,
award winning fabric artist Mary Diamond . If you
haven’t already seen her quilts, then you are going to
be amazed, they are incredible!

Do you love 30’s and 40’s reproduction fabrics? If you do and you are in
the mood to make a traditional quilt in reproduction fabrics, this is the club
for you! This is a gorgeous quilt that will be created over a 6 month period.
Each month you will receive a pattern and fabric kit for that month’s block.
Skills include making half square triangles, flying geese, appliqué work, etc.
By Spring, you’ll have a fabulous quilt in fabrics that, if you’re anything like

the Mission Rose staircase, but are afraid
of the appliqué? This class is for you!
Grab your favorite cat kit and come to
class to learn how to do fusible and machine appliqué. You should be close to
finishing your wall hanging by the time
you leave class. Twelve different kits to
choose from! $25
Have you seen the gorgeous striped border fabrics
but aren’t sure what to do with them? This row quilt
utilizes border prints that alternates with a pretty
chain row. In the first class we will adjust the pattern
to your chosen border stripe. We will also discuss how
to make the quilt larger. You should be able to finish
the quilt top in the first session. The second session
will address how to cut and use bias binding and how
to make a scalloped border. Booklet required. $40

Pumpkin Fabric Card

This adorable wall hanging is perfect for
Autumn decorating. Small in size, but big in
punch, we’ll assemble and embellish a
pumpkin and embroider and bead a spider
and its web. Techniques include fusing,
satin stitch, zigzag stitch, embroidery and
beading. Kit required. $20

> Registration may be made in person, by
telephone or on-line. Fees for classroom
instruction do not include fabric, books or patterns
unless otherwise stated.
> In order to be considered registered for a class
your class fee must be paid when you sign up. At
that time you will receive a supply list and a receipt
that entitles you to a 15% discount off all class related supplies.
> As a courtesy to our teachers, if you elect to
withdraw from a class less than 3 days prior to the
beginning of the class your class fee will be nonrefundable, unless your spot can be filled.
> If you elect to withdraw from a class at least 7
days prior to the beginning of the class, you will
receive a store credit.
> In the event a class must be cancelled due
to insufficient enrollment or inclement

Needle Tatting
Sunday October 17 12:00 – 2:00 pm
Learn how to tat with a NEEDLE! Tatting
makes a great embellishment for quilts,
purses and totes and much more. We’ll
make a tatted motif in class. I have many
samples and ideas to share with you.

Beginning Serging

If you haven’t used your serger in a while or maybe
never, then join us. We will discuss how to thread the
machine and sew a small project. All your questions
will be answered and perhaps set a monthly meeting
for those who want a continuous class. $20
Hunter’s Star

This class will teach you how to make a Hunter’s
Star the easy way! It is so much fun I’m on my
third top. Come see what all the buzz is about.

Classes with Julia Bliven
Beginning Quilting
Thurs Sept 30, October 7, 14 & 21 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Learn to quilt this fall! This is the course for the
beginner. Select from two NEW projects on display at
the shop: a large table runner OR a lap size quilt. You
will learn the following skills: accurate rotary cutting
and sewing of quilt blocks, accurate machine piecing,
sewing blocks into rows, layering the quilt sandwich,
machine quilting and attaching the binding. You’ll
learn to use the quilting tools and all the quilting
vocabulary you need to have the skills to read a
pattern and take on a project by yourself. Start with
me and I’ll lead you into the wonderful world of
quilting. You will NOT be a beginner by the end!
Obtain a supply list at the shop, choose your beautiful fabric and you are ready to go!
No hand quilting involved. A sewing machine in good
working order and a ¼ inch foot attachment
required. Student should have knowledge of basic
machine sewing.
*A great refresher course for advanced beginners;
select the lap sized quilt and review and refine your
skills. Book required. $50

Machine Quilting
Saturday Nov 13

*New book with new exercises answer that last
direction in your pattern: “Quilt as Desired.”
This class offers a new approach to free motion
quilting. Put your sewing machine to work; learn
to “draw” with your needle and guide it to do
machine quilting for you. Techniques include:
free motion quilting of marked and unmarked
designs, outlining, grid patterns, meandering
and stippling. In one session you will have the
knowledge and confidence to put your new skills
into practice. Class focuses on techniques, not a
finished product. No experience necessary and
repeating students are welcome to join us and
refresh their skills. Your sewing machine must
be able to drop the feed dogs and have a free
motion attachment. Sign up early as class fills
quickly. Book required. $30
Bed Runners from Precut Fabrics
Saturday October 16 10:00 – 4:00 pm
Put the charm of a chic hotel into your
bedroom by making a bed runner to
match your décor. Sew your choice from ten bed
runners in this new book. Tops can be sewn in a day
using precut charm packs, layer cakes or precut
strips. Or, select your own fabric and do the easy
cutting. And, here’s a secret: these runners also
look great draped over the back of a sofa, futon,
loveseat, or on a table. Use your imagination, bring
your sewing machine and fabrics and I’ll bring a
fall dessert to keep you energized while you

Christmas Square Tree Skirt

Eight fat quarters create a lovely tree skirt.
Add batting and backing and it’s ready to
place under your tree. But, who says the
fabrics must be red and green! Be creative
by matching your décor and turn this
36” x 36” project into an attractive table
topper. Brand new book required that is
filled with other fat quarter projects you can’t
resist making. While you sew, I’ll pass around
the holiday cookies! Book required. $30

Create a Face - Fabric Portraiture
Saturday October 23 10:00 - 4:00 pm
This is fabric portraiture at its simplest. Start with
a whole cloth face silhouette and be guided in
transforming it into a face full of expression and
begging for a name. Your creation will be ready
to place on a welcoming background, highlighting
your work. You might want to follow this class
with Thread Painting and More in which you will
enhance your face and integrate your creation
into a free-style landscape environment. (Supply
kit and in-class materials fee $5.00). $40

Delectable Mountains The Quilt In a Day way
Sunday October 3 & 17 12:00 - 3:00 pm
This is a striking traditional medallion
quilt whether it is made using 2 fabrics
or 10. This is an advanced beginner level
quilt. You can choose an appliqué center,
a pieced star or choose a small panel for
the center. One week we’ll make the delectable mountain blocks and two weeks
later we’ll lay it out and place the spacer
blocks. Book required. $35
Free-Style Nature Composition
Saturday November 6
10:00 - 4:00 pm
Using nature’s palette with prints, hand-dyes,
batiks, and embellishment fibers you will capture
an inspirational object or scene from nature and
observe the magic of embroidery-style thread
work as it provides the realistic creation of 3-D
depth. This class will also offer a chance to
explore other methods to further enhance your
work: Snippets in Tulle, Building on Felt; Smudged
Shadows. You may choose to work with a preprinted-on-fabric object or small scene or you may
provide a creation of your own design such as a
tree, a waterfall, an animal, a bird. (Here is a
chance to work with your fabric portrait from Create a Face class.) Sewing machine is required.
This class is for the adventurous of all skill levels.

Intro to Paper Piecing:
Maple Leaf Tablerunner
Sunday October 10 12:00 - 3:00 pm
Celebrate fall and learn paper piecing at the
same time! Create your maple leaves using
fall jewel tones and learn how to trace a paper
piece pattern, measure for your pieces, place
your pieces, sew them down and trim the
seam. This is an easy pattern with large
pieces so it’s a great introduction to paper
piecing. Pattern required. $25

I really love fall - there is nothing more
breath taking than trees in full fall color. In
this class we will learn how to make a textured tree trunk using twisted pieces of material and free motion quilting. You’ll also
learn how to use yarns and free motion quilting to give bring your tree to life. No pattern
required for this class. $25
You have a choice of 4 different projects.
Learn how to use the Flying Geese and On
point rulers to make the Maple leaf block.
This is the perfect project to learn both
techniques– it’s an easy block and you only
have to make four for the largest project.
As an added bonus, you’ll receive the
Maple leaf quilting pattern used on the
