KEYSER SOZE
Keyser Soze is an original reggae/ska/soul band with a strong
jazz background. The sextet was formed in Reno, NV in 1998 by
Jammal Tarkington and Rodney Teague. Keyser Soze has made
a strong presence for themselves by regular regional touring and
by being in the position to share the stage with some of the best
drawing headliners, including Michael Franti, The English Beat,
The Wailers, The Aggrolites, Steel Pulse, and The Skatalites, to
name a few.
In 2003, Keyser Soze released “Revenge”, a highly energetic
and eclectic record that established their presence on the scene.
After many years of gigging and personnel changes, the group
settled on it’s current lineup, the core of which has been going
strong since 2009.
“But Not For You” was released in 2011 and features a more
streamlined approach to ska/reggae music. The record also
pushed them into international markets by attaining distribution
through Rocking Records, from Germany.
“The Remedy” is Keyser Soze’s release for 2013. The
recording is evidence of a band that has been playing and
writing together for a considerable amount of time. It’s a record
that sets Keyser Soze apart from many of it’s contemporaries by
showcasing a truly unique and identifiable sound. It also
features many guest artists, such as The Aggrolites’ Roger
Rivas and the incomparable Lauren Nagel, formerly of The Soul
Captives. This release is being distributed by Rocking Records
in Europe, and by Megalith Records in North America.
The band will stay busy on the west coast through summer and
then will be returning to Europe for it’s second run through the
continent in the autumn of 2014.

microphones on kick drum and snare/hi-hat. Full setup includes
kick, snare, one rack tom, floor tom, timbale, hi-hat, cymbals.
Monitor mix: drums (kick & snare or whole mix), bass, guitar,
vocals, horns.
Bass: Line only/DI Box. Monitor mix: vocals, horns,
drums, guitar.
Guitar: Appropriate instrument microphone (SM57) on amp
speaker. Monitor mix: vocals, horns, drums, bass, vocal mic
(SM58)
Vocal/Trombone: One vocal microphone (SM58) and boom
stand. One instrument or horn microphone (SM57) and boom
stand. Monitor mix: vocals, horns, drums, bass, guitar.
Vocal/Alto or Bari Sax: One vocal microphone (SM58) and
boom stand. One instrument or horn microphone (SM57) and
boom stand. Monitor mix: vocals, horns, drums, guitar, bass.
Trumpet: One instrument or horn microphone (SM57) and boom
stand. Monitor mix: vocals, horns, (sm amount) drums, guitar.
Monitors: Whenever monitors and/or mixes are limited,
priority should be frontline and drums. Bass and guitar monitors are only necessary on very large stages. Individual mixes
above are listed in order of priority. Instruments at the beginning
of each list should be louder in the mix and those at the end
may not be wanted at all depending on stage size or proximity of
band members.
