We’re fine with that – it’s not going to be the Kings being happy to be in the South Division semi-final,” said Blumes. “We see what we’re capable of when we put our mind to it and approach the series against Coaldale with passion, discipline and focus.” The boys know that they have to keep up their compete level as it will be a lengthy seven game series. “It’s going to be a battle, when you’re playing seven games in 10 days, it’s going to be a war and the team that’s better conditioned and taking care of things away from the rink, I’m going to like our chances,” said Blumes. Game 2 versus the Cubs saw one of the higher attendances of the season, and the Kings want the crowds to keep coming out throughout the postseason. We put together a good team and learned many valuable lessons along the way. I believe we are poised to take the next step in our teams evolution. We are looking for players with ability and character. As the Head Coach I believe I have two very simple objectives: 1. Player & Team Development: To coach players’ development and aid them in improving their skill set as well as their citizenship. Also, to create a team environment where all members understand their role in our success. We will accomplish these goals by establishing a level for our expectations, holding players accountable for their actions, and rewarding and disciplining players in accordance with the situation. 2. Win the HJHL Arnusch Championship trophy: I believe if we are diligent in our approach with objective number 1, objective number 2 will be the fortuitous by-product. One of the critical tasks before us is player identification. This is why you find this document in your hands today. As the head coach, I am looking for competitive, intelligent, skilled players with strong character. I firmly believe the primary strength of our success will be the players who represent our team. Our decisions will be based on your capabilities and performance. All ice time and roles will be earned from the start of our Conditioning camp that opens on August 17, 2015. There are opportunities to play large roles within our team, it is up to you to earn those roles. I believe a balanced team is a difficult team to defend against. We are not looking for 23 identical players, nor are we looking for the 23 most technically skilled players. We are looking for the right players. The Kings will be skilled, intelligent, disciplined, and always hard to play against. As well with the cooperation of our veteran leadership group, we will create an environment where we all have fun and enjoy coming to the rink each day. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your ongoing development. The Town has a full range of recreational and competitive sports activities to develop and maintain an active lifestyle for players. Along with the twin ice arena, home to the Wheatland Kings, there is an indoor aquatic centre, four sheet curling rink, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, 18-hole golf course, bike paths and parks. Strathmore also hosts its own Stampede in early August, this year from August 1st - 4th, which boasts a very exciting event, Canada’s only ‘Running of the Bulls’.
