The Boss……………...
At the conclusion of the pre-season friendlies we were fairly satisfied with what the games had
given us. We were obviously chopping and changing the starting line ups regularly and making
more substitutions than we would in normal circumstances but we now have a better idea of how
the squad is shaping up than we did before the games started. The players should also feel a bit
sharper in match situations and that will stand us in good stead for when the league games eventually start.
I told the players before the Maryhill game to expect a tough game and that is exactly what we got.
These Sectional League cup games generally bring a more competitive challenge than the preseason friendlies and I think it’s fair to say that is what we witnessed at Lochburn Park. I have no
doubt that we deserved to win the game but a single goal lead is never that comfortable when entering the closing stages of such a game. I thought we dominated the second half and should’ve
got a second goal but a combination of some very good saves and missed opportunities kept us on
our toes right through to the final whistle. Our first half performance could have been a lot better but
we won’t dwell on that and at the end of the day we’ll take the points and move on.
One of the plus points was the performance of young Jordan Shelvey. Despite not getting on the
score sheet he made a significant contribution and I’m sure with more experience and time he is
capable of improving further. Even if we wanted to go with the same starting eleven throughout
these Sectional games, availability issues would knock that on the head therefore there will be
changes from game to game during this competition, but not as many as the earlier games. The
one thing we don’t need from these games is a large injury list so we’ll keep everything crossed in
the hope that doesn’t happen.
Our games against Yoker usually are tough contests and I don’t expect this one to be any different.
The players who haven’t previously played in these games will be told how important it is to be
prepared for a difficult test. Glasgow Perthshire have had an extremely unfortunate 18 months,
losing a significant percentage of the squad that got them promoted into the Super League. But like
all the other teams in this section they are capable of making life very difficult for us in our defence
of this trophy.
Enjoy the games,
Programme Team

Chairman’s Chat
This Day in History - 16th Aug.
On this day in .......
1967, Clydebank played East Stirlingshire at Firs Park in a League Cup tie. The Bankies won 1-0 with the goal
coming from Eddie Moore. Est Att; 600. Number One in the charts - 'San Francisco by Scott McKenzie
After a very encouraging pre-season schedule, it was really nice to return to competitive action last
weekend. Our win against Maryhill last Saturday was fully deserved and should have been by a few
goals to spare, while Robert had one or two saves to make, for long periods it was one-way traffic in
the other direction.
1972, Clydebank entertained Ayr United in the League Cup at Kilbowie. The Bankies won 1-0 through a Mike
Larnach goal. Att; 1,200. Number One - 'School's Out' by Alice Cooper.
Hopefully things went well against Ashfield on Wednesday and we go into this double-header
against Yoker Athletic and Glasgow Perthshire in a strong position. We haven't always done well in
the Sectional League Cup and we were delighted to put that right last season by winning the trophy.
That's the objective again and anything less than qualification from our group will be seen by all at
the club as a disappointment.
1975, Clydebank and East Stirlingshire fought out a 1-1 draw at Kilbowie in a League Cup match. Joe McCallan
netted for the Bankies. Est Att; 900. Number One - 'Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)' by The Stylistics.
Our last home outing against Dumbarton was a very enjoyable match. Seeing the Sons fans in their
club colours brought back a lot of fond memories of trips to Boghead and Kilbowie.
1969, Cowdenbeath were our guests at Kilbowie for a League Cup tie. The Bankies won 3-1 goals from Jimmy
Caskie, Alan Munro and Jim Fallon. Att 1,200. Number One - 'Honky Tonk Women' by The Rolling Stones
1980, Clydebank travelled to Kirkcaldy for a Division One game against Raith Rovers. The Bankies won by 4-0
with the goals coming from Tom McGorm with two, Gerry McCabe and Blair Miller. Number One - 'The Winner
Takes It All' by ABBA.
1986, Celtic were our visitors at Kilbowie for a Premier League match. Clydebank narrowly lost 1-0 Att; 9,950.
Number One - 'The Lady In Red' by Chris de Burgh.
1989, Meadowbank Thistle visited Kilbowie for a League Cup tie. Ken Eadie scored twice and Gerry McGurn got
the other in the Bankies 3-1 victory. Number One - 'Swing The Mood' by Jive Bunny.
1994, Clydebank travelled to Fir Park to take on Motherwell in the League Cup. The home side won 3-1 before
4,172 spectators. James Grady scored for the Bankies. Number One - 'Love Is All Around' by Wet Wet Wet.
1997, Palmerston Park was the venue for a Second Division match with Queen of the South. Clydebank gained a
point from a 2-2 draw in which Stevie Docherty and Gary Teale scored. Att; 1,284. Number One - 'Men In Black'
by Will Smith.
2003, St.Rochs were our hosts for a Sectional League Cup tie. The home side won 3-2, Danny Prior and Kevin
Stanley got the goals for Clydebank. Number One - 'Breathe' by Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul.
2006, Clydebank played Ashfield at Glenhead in a Sectional League Cup match. The Bankies won 2-1 with goals
from Andy Kenna and John Cunningham. Number One - 'Hips Don't Lie' by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean
Growing up, I loved Dumbarton matches and one of my favourite games ever was in the 1978/79
season when we beat them 2-1 on their own patch. Big Blair that day was something else.
Back in the present, though, it was great to see how well our players did against a Dumbarton side
that had a number of first team players among the youngsters. I thought we were terrific and the
performance provided a lot of encouragement for the season ahead.
I would like to re-iterate my call for a big turnout at our forthcoming AGM. Every year provides a
great challenge than the one before at Clydebank FC. The demands on time and finances are huge
and its very important as a club that the people who care most about the future of the Bankies make
the effort to be there.
Finally, I am delighted to officially welcome Gavin Hynde to the club as our new kit man. Gavin takes
over from Alan Hamilton who will now focus on goalkeeper coaching. On the way out of the club is
physio Danny Friel who has been offered and has accepted a full-time post with Celtic. We are all
delighted for Danny who was a valued member of Budgie's backroom team in his year or so at the
club. He told me that his time here helped him secure his post at Celtic and set him on his way on
what should be an exciting career.
Gordon Robertson
2008, Clydebank faced Yoker Athletic at Holm Park in a Sectional League Cup tie. The Whe Ho won 2-0.

Number One - 'I Kissed A Girl' by Katie Perry.

(There’s a pattern emerging here with this question - Editor)

Oot, fae the hospitality of the hosts, tae the Sunny skies and the joy of
beating one of the superpowers of Junior footie on their home
patch.......no need to say anymore
Who is the best player you have seen in a Bankies jersey?
Jim Gallacher (my Hero!!!) in the senior days and in the Juniors it
has to be Alan Jack (our Junior Chic Charnley)
What is your favourite all time Bankies strip?
No contest 77-78 vertical 3 band stripe home or away CC please

What is your all time favourite goal?
Chic Charnley at Kilbowie v Hamilton.....just summed up his
cheekiness in one goal and spoiled their Champions party and in
the Juniors, that goal scored in the over 30° heat of Rugby Park
which lives long in the memory
If you could change one Bankies result which one
would it be?
Would have to be the Junior Cup Final as winning the cup

Shirt Sponsorship 14-15
How much do you look forward to getting our own home to play in?
Right now getting our own home is probably more important than winning the Junior Cup Final or
The Super Premier Title.
Honours will come from the stability and extra finance which will come from controlling our own
destiny as welcoming as our hosts have been.
What is the best thing about being where we are today in the Juniors?
I love Clydebank being in the Juniors as we are really competitive and its more the big fish in small
pond scenario, rather than the opposite way about. Also some of the football we have played in
recent years has been a joy to watch.

SEASON 2013-14
CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME
SEASON 2013-14
11
In Town Today-Yoker Ath.
This is the tenth season that Clydebank have competed in Group 6 of the
Euroscot Engineering Sectional League Cup alongside Ashfield, Maryhill,
Glasgow Perthshire and Yoker Athletic but the first time they have begun
the season defending this trophy. Most clubs use these group games as an
extension to their pre-season by playing trialists and experimenting with
formations ahead of the league season but this time around there is a little
more expectation amongst many in the Bankies support with qualification
from the section seen as a must from the cup holders. On the other hand
some fans see this as an unnecessary obstacle in the way of the league
season’s kick-off at the end of the month. Going all the way in this trophy
brings in much needed funds early in the season so it is fairly easy to guess
which view the club treasurer holds. A decade ago the fortunes of this
group of teams was quite different. In those days Maryhill were the top side,
the team everyone wanted to emulate and playing in the Premier Division.
Back then Ashfield and Perthshire were playing in the Central District Second Division and Clydebank and Yoker in the Central District First Division.
How things have changed in these ten short years. Over that period the Hill
have plummeted down the leagues and even spent three seasons in the
bottom tier before being promoted at the end of the 12-13 season where
they struggled a little last year when finishing ninth.

Over the ten years these five clubs have played in this group only Yoker has failed to qualify for the knock-out
phase. Whether this is by accident or design is obviously their own business. Maryhill have only qualified once and
that was back in 05-06, the first season of this group of teams, when they were attempting to defend the trophy
they had lifted the previous year. The next two seasons saw Clydebank through to the knock-out stages, including
an appearance in the final back in 06-07 where they narrowly lost to Pollok. For the next four years the group was
headed by Ashfield but their run came to an end in the 12-13 season when near neighbours Glasgow Perthshire
won the group before losing the quarter final to eventual winners Pollok. And in case nobody knows, last season it
was Clydebank who topped the section before going on to avenge that 06-07 final defeat by beating Pollok to lift
the trophy at Newlandsfield Park last September . This season Clydebank were handed two away fixtures to begin
with, at Maryhill and Ashfield last week, before two home ties here at Holm Park against Yoker and then Perthshire
to complete their set of fixtures. The section games draw to a close this coming Saturday but Bankies will be idle
that day as their round of matches ends on Wednesday evening when Perthshire come to visit.

The other four clubs have each had spells in the super leagues although Perthshire now find themselves at the
lowest level again following relegation last term. Ashfield dropped back into the District leagues at the end of last
season after five years, including two in the Premier. The Whe Ho are about to begin their third term in the super
league and Bankies enter their fourth in the top division after another four in the West First Division.

Over the past two seasons we have shown the
top goal scorers for the West Super Premier
League on this page. It has proved popular with
our own and visiting fans and also with my fellow
programme editors, some of which have taken up
the idea themselves throughout the season. All
league goals and goals scored in any Junior cup
competitions will be noted here except goals
scored in the Senior Scottish Cup. Looking back
over the past two campaigns its interesting to
note that it is the usual suspects who appear at
the top and already it seems that way again.
CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME
SEASON 2013-14
In Town Today-Glas.Perthshire
The draw for the quarter and semi-finals have already been made and the
winners of this section have been handed an away tie at the winners of group
two which contains Carluke Rovers, Forth Wanderers, East Kilbride Thistle,
Shotts Bon Accord and Wishaw. Co-incidentally this is the reverse of the
quarter final from last term when Carluke were well beaten here at Holm Park
by Clydebank.
The Bankies gaffer Budgie McGhie must be delighted by how well his six pre
-season matches have gone with his charges winning five and drawing the
other. The new signings have slotted in quickly and a number of youngsters
acquitted themselves extremely well and won deals to join the club on a
permanent basis. The loss of several of the players who began last season
at the club could have been a major body blow to the manager but he has
gone about his business in his usual quiet and efficient manner and brought
in some promising young talent to go along with experienced junior players
and the prospects for the coming season looks less daunting than many may
have anticipated. The acid test will obviously come when the league season
kicks off but before then there are tests in this competition and hurdles that
many of the fans expect the players to overcome.

Being generally acknowledged as the top side in this group and as current holders of this cup Clydebank will be
seen as a big scalp to claim so the four other sides in this section will no doubt raise their game and prove to
be very difficult to beat but that is the challenge that the newcomers will need to get used to if Bankies are to
improve upon last season’s very high achievements.
Clydebank have already won twice here at Holm Park in pre-season but can they maintain that 100% record?
One hundred and eighty minutes of football over these two games will tell.

Match From The Past
Sectional League Cup Aug 25th 2007 - Clydebank 3 Yoker Athletic 0
The opening stages of the match were played in a surprisingly low
key manner, with neither team showing the kind of raw emotion that
has been evident in past derby clashes. Craig and then Cunningham
had early headers at goal that did not worry the Yoker goal. Yoker's
first real chance being an awkward shot from Readie that trickled
through to Wilson. The Bankies did take the lead, however, after 10
minutes following a dreadful defensive error. Alan Jack's free kick
into the box appeared to be harmless, but a Yoker defender panicked his attempt at a clearance. The ball rolled across the six yard
box and Paul Craig was on hand to thump it into the net. The goal
gave Clydebank the impetus and opportunities began to arrive. Alan
Jack crashed a free kick off the wall, then Carr cut inside from the
right, but his left foot shot was weak. Yoker were not giving the Bankies defence too many problems,
and Cunningham broke up a rare foray upfield for the Whe-ho. He released Jack, and the swift break
ended with Jack trying to lob the keeper from all of 40 yards, but it was wide of the goal. Just before
the half hour point, Yoker had their best chance of the match. A deflected long range effort came
down to Watt whose sweet volley from 18 yards was pushed away by Wilson. As always, when a
great chance goes a begging, the opposition runs up the park and scores. And the Bankies did just
that. A poor Yoker free kick was blocked by the wall, and the ball was switched from left to right to
Sichi. The winger had men flooding forward in support, but chose to take on the last defender who did
well to get the tackle in. Fortunately, the ball was only pushed out as far as Allum who strode into the
box and calmly placed the ball into the corner out of Meechan's reach.
Within two minutes of the restart the game was over. Ged Hoey added the third, unleashing a curling
shot into the net, after a neat one two with Kenna. Alan Jack was taunting the Yoker defence, and
Barrie earned himself a yellow card by having a kick at the midfielder as he led him on a merry dance
A final flurry of chances could not produce another goal. Cunningham got on the end of a short corner
from Lappin and Allum, but his shot went over. Then down the other end, Readie had a chance from
only a few feet out, but he sliced his shot when it looked easier to score. Finally, Scott McKay made a
terrible error in his own six yard box. He seemed to get caught in two minds, and only succeeded in
setting up Sichi. Unfortunately, the shot went over the top under pressure from McKay and Meechan.
Clydebank line up: Wilson, Allum, McInnes, Kenna, Cunningham, Hoey, Sichi, Lappin, Craig, Jack,
Carr Subs 69 mins Bowie (Carr) Docherty (Jack), 77 mins Duncan (Craig)

ever? (Titan thinks so)
Allum - Paul is currently 3rd in the list of appearances since our rebirth, turning
out 169 times
Anderson - Iain, the former Toulouse midfielder was with us for a short spell in

looking to add to his 14 goals for the club this season.

That's more times than any other team we've played in that time.
