Battle Of The Books Follow-Up
By Jack Slavik and Isaac Myos
On Wednesday March 29th, the Oak View Battle of the
Books competition took place. In Battle of the Books, you have
a team of up to three people, and you have six months to read
25 books. It is open to all grades. You get asked questions
about the books and the answer is the title of one of the books.
In the Oak View Battle, 21 teams battled it out to the final three.
The three teams that reigned were:
 Carjoseta: Carly Reller, Josie Berg, and Greta Wiederhold
 The Book Bosses: Jack Slavik, Isaac Myos, and Sam Fiene
 The Funkay Monkeys: Riley Fletcher, David Miller, and
Bryana Leverentz
Congratulations to all three teams. They all did very well in the
district battle under their coach of Mrs. Nordin. These three
teams faced the Champions from Coon Rapids, Northdale,
Jackson, Roosevelt, and Anoka Middle Schools. It came down
to Carjoseta and one of Roosevelt’s teams. After several
rounds, Oak View and Carjoseta were crowned the champions.
After talking to Greta Wiederhold from Carjoseta, she said, “I
was nervous, but it was fun. I am definitely doing it again next
year.” Congratulations to Carjoseta and all other teams. We all
can’t wait for next year...

Stacy De Werd
By Connor Bullock
Congratulations
To the Nick Family on
the
birth
of Connor James
Stacy De Werd is a Deaf Blind Intervener. I interNick.
Connor
arrived at 3:41
viewed her and this is what she had to say. I asked her why she
on Monday, April 22nd. He
started doing her job? She said that she worked as a health
care recruiter and it was very stressful and she wanted a
was 8 lbs, and 21 inches
change. I asked her how long she’s been doing this? She said long.
3 years. I asked if she couldn’t do what she does what would
she do? She told me that she would be a language arts
teacher. Her favorite part of the job is being with kids. I asked
her when did she realize this was what she wanted to do? She
told me that it was after she got the job. Her worst teaching
story was when she fell over someone with a wheelchair. Her
best was when her student understood the symbols. The symbols are items on a Velcro palate that have everyday items on
them. Like a spoon, which means she’s hungry and wants to
eat. I asked her where she went to college? She said she went
to University of Florida. Other job’s she has had was being a
health care recruiter. I asked if her job ever gets frustrating?
She said, “yes” and that her job takes lots of patience. Over the
summer she goes to Florida. Stacy is married, has a son that’s
25, has a daughter that’s 22, and another daughter that’s
18. Her favorite book is the Bible. I asked her what’s the most
important thing she does for students? She said that she is her
eyes and ears. I asked if she does anything with students over
the summer? She said that she does not. Her favorite subject in
school when she was young was anything that had to do with
language arts. Stacy lives in Otsego. She told me that if anyone
is curious about students and their disabilities, to just ask. She
also said to follow your heart on what to do with your life.
Is the YMCA Safe? Yes!
By: Paw Press A–team
That‘s the question in many students‘ mind right now. All around
Oak View students have been talking what happened recently at the
Andover YMCA. The Y is located right next door to Oak View,
and is a great place to hang out before and after school. . Kobe S
said, ―The YMCA is fun, it‘s a great place to swim, work out, and
pump some iron‖. Mike H 8th grade said, The Y is just a cool place
to be‖. Kelly 7th grade, said open gym is fun, you can practice basketball before a big game.‖ Despite all the great stuff to do, students are feeling a bit uneasy, after
it was reported on the news that
a weird person was taking pictures
of kids while they were changing
using some type of camera watch.
Thankfully, the kid did the right thing, and quickly told a YMCA staff
person, who then told police. Suffice it to say, the weird person will
no longer be going to Y. Still this makes students a bit cautious. In
talking to teachers and my parents, they all agree the YMCA is a
great place, but as with anywhere you go, if you see something
strange, tell a trustworthy adult right away. Call 911, tell a parent,
tell a teacher, tell someone… don‘t wait. If you do, you should be
just fine. Andover has way more good people who want to make
sure the community is a safe place to be, than bad people. So.. have
fun. Go to the Y, but do what the kid did when you see something
strange.. Report it asap. Bottom line, Is the YMCA safe? Yes. It is as
safe as anywhere else you might go.
Congratulations
to Christina Meyer (6th grade)
for her outstanding art work
and award. Christina placed 3rd
in the state of MN in her age
group in the Jr. Duck Stamp
Contest. This was a project that
was done in Mr. Angell’s science
class. She received her awards
in Bloomington, MN at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife
Refuge.

New Computer Lab Thank You!
By: Yasmine Baccam
Everyone at Oak View would like to say; Thank you!; Thank
you to students, parents, staff, and the Andover community for the new
computer lab that was purchased with fund raising dollars. Thank you for
helping out Oak View by buying magazines in the fall, and cookies in the
spring. Every contribution really helped out. I had the chance to interview Mrs. Cole , Oak View‘s technology coordinator.
The new computer lab cost roughly $40,000. The
new Apple desk top computers are located in the
North Lab (room 402). They replaced the 8 year old
Apple computers that were horribly outdated and
were extremely slow and broke down constantly.
Mrs. Cole spent countless hours
this year fixing the old computers.
Students reported that just logging
onto the internet took over 5 minutes (a huge waste of
time for teachers and students). Mrs. Cole also told me
that we could not even use the computers to take the
MAP assessments. The Business Education teacher told
Mrs. Cole that the new computers have allowed her
ramp up to the latest software, key to many business
units. Mrs. Cole also said that the computers will allow students at Oak
View to fully utilize all the latest software and programs offered, It will
allow students to quickly get information, type papers, create multimedia
presentations, and to run multiple applications at the same time. The old
computers were so bad that the school had no other choice but to recycle them. They were so old that the school district could not even sell
them, or donate them. Bottom line.. Thank you. So when you see fundraisers coming again in the fall… please think about all the good that
comes from the fundraiser.

Afterschool Skateboard Design
BY: Paw Press B-Team
Each student was able to register and create their
own skateboard over the course of three sessions with the
artist guiding the creative process. ―The cool thing about this
one was that their was some definitely non-artist when we
started, but by the time we had finished
everyone had a full board with beautiful art!
The ones that didn‘t think they could draw
went home with more than just a new
skateboard, they were now calling themselves artists! Job well done Oak View!‖
Meet a Unicycle Riding
Math Teacher
By: Kinsi Al-Sadi
Ms. Jones, is one
of the new teachers here
at Oak View Middle School
this year. Ms. Jones has
been teaching for two
years in total. Before she
became a teacher, she
worked as a camp counselor up north, and a librarian at St. Olaf College.
She sort of wanted to become a teacher as she
grew up. In fact her father Mr. Jones, a social studies teacher here at Oak View you might say inspired her. He mother also works here at Oak
View. Her name is Mrs. Jones the study hall
teacher. You also could say education runs in the
Jones family. If she won a million dollars today, she
would travel to Norway on a long long vacation.
The hardest part of her job is finding new ways to
explain the same thing to students. Ten years in
the future, she still sees herself using math every
day. She currently has no pets, but her favorite
animal is a penguin. On her free time, she enjoys
playing music, riding her unicycle, singing, and playing in a local community band. She worked at
Roseville high school for one year.. She loves to
eat homemade pizza, instead of restaurant pizza.
She says her dad makes the best pizza crust in the
world!. She is not married, and does not have any
kids. Her favorite place to travel is the outside/
outdoors to lakes parks. She loves to shop at ―Air
Traffic‖ where she bought her unicycle. She loves
ride it all over place, and says it is fun. Her little
brother started the family riding the unicycles .
Now everyone in her family rides one. Her advice
is to students is to work hard and do your best – it
really pays off in the long run.

New Math Program
By Jack Slavik and Grace Kringle
Starting next year, Oak View and all other middle
schools in ISD #11 are getting a new math program. Mrs. Valley filled us in with the
information. Starting next year, the classes will be: Pre-Algebra, Middle School
Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Math. If you’re wondering
why this is happening, the state changed their math standards, which is what their
expectations are. This change also affects the elementary school kids who are
coming into 5th grade. There will be classes at the Elementary level with more
algebra, and advanced courses in middle school are going to be harder to get into.
There are going to be more Pre-Algebra classes than most others. Remember,
changes are always difficult, but the students will benefit in the long run. The math
department here is top-notch and are ready to handle all of these changes.
Mrs. Poore
By: Lilly Hillman
I had a chance to interview Mrs. Poore the new Business Ed teacher.
My first question was how many years had she been teaching, she answered that
she had been teaching 18 years. Then I asked her where she went to college, she
said, ―Fort Hays State University in Kansas‖. I then asked her if she ever had any
other jobs? She said, ―Yes she has been an office assistant, a teller, a university
director, and an athletics director‖. My next question was
if she always wanted to be a teacher? she said, ―Yes, her
favorite part of the job is her students‖. Her happiest moment teaching is when she coaches volleyball, basketball,
and track. She said if she won a million dollars she would
give some to her favorite charities (St. Jude and juvenile
diabetes) then buy a new car. If she could not be a teacher,
then she would be a recruiter for her husband who is a coach for the Gopher
football team. The hardest part of her job is to make sure
people can complete their assignments. In ten years she sees
herself teaching or administrating. She has a dog named
Pookie. Dogs and deer are her favorite animals. She coaches
track and runs in her free time. She finished her 1st marathon last October. She used to teach at Coon Rapids in
October. Her favorite restaurant is PF Changs. The best part of her job is the
excitement when the students learn something new. The least favorite is to discipline the students. She has a daughter who is a dental hygienist and a son who
is getting his masters in computer science. She had to pass 7 tests to be a
teacher. She has lived in 7 states. If she could be an animal she would be a horse
because they race, are very pretty, and are often well taken care of. Her favorite
place to travel is the Bahamas or Mexico. Likes to shop at Len and Rosedale
Center. She loves Oak View staff and students. Her advice for students is to
work hard and have high expectations.
Get to know Mrs. Groebner!
By Katie Minton
Let’s start at the beginning. When Mrs. Groebner was 5 she wanted to be a teacher but throughout
her childhood she developed some other interests such
as a lawyer and a designer. Her favorite class was
math all through school. Algebra and pre-cal were Mrs.
Groebner’s favorites, but her hardest was geometry. Her favorite part of math
was equations and graphing. She came to Oak View and has been teaching for
3 years. All she wants is to help kids find joy in math. Her favorite color is
pink. Mrs. Groebner would just like to say that Oak View is such a terrific
place and there are terrific students and terrific teachers. Just work hard, enjoy school, and know that you matter to your teachers.

Linda Yankovec
By Connor Boyer
I had the chance to interview our school
social worker Mrs. Yankovec. I asked her
what her job was about and she told me
that she runs groups and connects students and families with
resources for people. She said that she chose this job because
she likes to work with all the different kids. She also told me
that she went to St. Cloud State, and she got a Bachelors degree in criminal justice and a masters degree in social work. I
asked her how long she wanted to do this job and what's her
favorite part, and she said that she has wanted to do her job
since High School, also and her favorite part is seeing the
kids. Her favorite thing about OVMS is seeing all the different kids and how they have changed. I asked her what her
favorite and least favorite subject in school, and she answered
for her favorite, English because she loved to read. Her least
favorite subject was Math (sorry math teachers!). Her favorite thing to do over the summer is going to all the MN State
Parks. I asked her if she had any advice to students and she
told me that "Live in the present" which means, don't worry
about yesterday or tomorrow just enjoy today!
Welcome Mrs. Lyons!
By: Riley Fletcher
Did you know that Mr. Bleess is
not the only band teacher at Oak View this
year? If you have 6th grade band 1st hour
you do. Mrs. Lyons teaches here at Oak
View 1st period and then teaches at Jackson
Middle school for the remainder of the day.
She is frustrated that she has so little time
with students. In that little time she has with her students,
her favorite song to perform is "Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat". Mrs. Lyon‘s first job was as an
A&W carhop. Obviously though, that is not what she wanted
to do for the rest of her life. She was inspired in middle
school by her own awesome band teacher and decided to
follow in his footsteps. If she had not been touched by her
band teacher, Mrs. Lyons said she would probably have a
career in business. Since she was, however, she went on to
receive her undergraduate degree at Western Illinois University, and then her masters at University of Minnesota. She
taught at Forest Lake Junior High School, Osseo SENIOR
OR JUNIOR High School, and Jackson Middle School before
working here at Oak View. Outside of school, Mrs. Lyons
loves to read John Grisham books, do card tricks, and eat at
Osaka. She also enjoys going on vacation with her family.
Her husband is also a band teacher at Champlin Park High
School. Her 27 year old son is now an engineer, and her 20
year old daughter is going to College at St. Benedict College.
Mrs. Lyons spends much of her time playing her many instruments, but her favorite is the piano because it is the first
instrument she learned to play. Mrs. Lyons enjoys her job.
Despite the frustrated kids that she has to coax and the bad
moments that she has, she loves her job. One of these bad
moments is when she helped a student get a swab out of an
instrument, and when it finally came out, the instrument and
swab were covered in vomit. Yuck! Teaching after something
like that takes some dedication! She wants you to know that
she loves teaching and she loves her students

In the 2014-2015 school year, there will be
Get a Job make changes in the social studies program. We talked to
Mr. Jones and Mrs. Claussen, two of the World History teachers, to
Money $$$$
give us some more information. ―This is happening because the Minnesota Department of Education changed their state-wide standards
along with support from the state legislature,‖ Mr. Jones said. ―In seventh and eighth grade, they are changing their main focus a little bit.
However, sixth grade is getting a whole new course. Instead of World
History, they will now have Minnesota Studies in 2014-2015. They will
focus on Minnesota‘s history, geography, economics, citizenship, and
government.‖Mrs. Claussen told us, ―In seventh grade, they will be
shifting a little bit: American History to United States Studies. They will
mainly focus on history, but also learn about American government,
and economics. In eighth grade, it will change from Geography to
Global Studies. The main focus is still geography, and they will continue
to study government, history, and economics.‖ It is unclear at the time
kind of materials will be used to support the new standards.
Friends!!!! what
Here is how Mr. Jones feels about these changes. ―It is sad to lose
ancient civilizations in World History, but I‘m excited to teach about
the history of our great state. It was up to the Minnesota Legislature to
make a decision, and they thought that it‘s more important that Minnesota History should have a stronger emphasis.‖ Change can be good.
We look forward to the new classes and are excited to take them.

Boys tennis Interview
By Audrey Gasser
Evan Tyler ( 6th grade) and Will Morgan (8th grade) were interviewed about the sport tennis. We asked them both 12 questions, here are their answers to them.
What do you like about tennis?
Will: “I like it because of singles and doubles.”
Evan: “I enjoy the excitement and I also like Singles and Doubles.”
Next we asked, Why they played this sport?
Will: “Because my dad plays.”
Evan: “I play because I once played Cricket and I liked it, so I
started Tennis.”
How long have you played?
Will: “I have been playing since last year.”
Evan: “For 5 years.”
Who is your coach?
Both: “Mr. Rosenbaum, the art teacher at Oak view.”
What does your coach do to make you better?
Will and Evan: “He helped us start serving and it stuck with us,
same goes for everything else he taught us.”
I had the chance to interview the track team
this spring. The coaches for both teams are Mr.
Ambrose, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Hayko (Missy), Mrs. Perovich
and Ms. Poore. They have set up practice sessions
every Monday through Friday from 3:05p.m.-5:00p.m.
The track season runs for 5 weeks, The coaches enjoy
motivating students by playing games and having competitions. I had the chance to interview one student on
the team. Aiden J. said he enjoys track a lot. It is a great
way to get in shape. He also plays soccer. His favorite
part of track is the meets or competitions against other
middle schools. Load of fun! He has been on a track
team now for three years. I also had the chance to
interview Camille Toronto (7th grade) on the Girl’s track
team. Camille loves the coaches, the team, the running,
and the support everybody gives out on the team. This is
her first year in track. She also enjoys other extracurricular activities at Oak View. Her favorite part of track is
when they play games and have meets. Track will be
held throughout the month of May.
2013 Spring
Tennis Team
By: Connor Bullock
I had the chance to interview the Tennis team
this spring. The coach this year is Mr. Rosenbaum. He has
set up the practice sessions Mon-Thurs each week from
3:15-5:00pm ( right after school). There are roughly 15
students on team this year. They play until May 22nd this
year, ( I thought it might be longer since we had so much
snow this year, and the start time was delayed) Mr.
Rosenbaum said this is his 4th year coaching tennis. He said
he enjoys it tremendously. He plans on being the coach
for many years to come. I also had a chance to interview a
tennis player. Nick said he enjoys playing tennis this year,
despite the bad weather. He also plays basketball, on the off
season to stay in shape. He has been playing tennis for 5
years, and plans on playing into high school, and even after
that.

Spring Sports Delayed with
the Late Spring
With a winter that just
kept on going, and the snow that
just kept on falling, and the cold
that just did not leave, students
and coaches started to get very
upset. The start of spring sports
was delayed week after week.
Many sports became fed up and
started the seasons practice sessions in the gyms or cafeteria.
After having a snow day on April
19th.. We decided to go out and talk to students…..Sam , an outdoor
sport loving student, said after the April 19th Snow Day...that when he
graduates he is leaving MN forever. ― I‘m soo sick and tired of snow and
cold weather, Uck!!!! Lynn, said that unless she can get out and play softball, soon she‘ll just decide to scrap the year, and ask for their money
back!. Mr. Rosenbaum, said, ― Spring will be here soon...I Hope… I really
Hope. It seems that everyone is ready for spring… We hope it comes
and stays, and just does not give us a cold icky spring.

6. Sept-March – OVMS competes in the Twin Cities Chess League in Roseville (games are held one Friday a month and the league contains student AND Adult
teams). OVMS finished 12th out of 21 teams in the Bronze division (their highest finish ever … and 4 places above the Andover HS chess team).
7. Perhaps one of the best accomplishments of the year is that all 4 players (Zach, Gunnar, Blake, and Antonio) have raised their national chess rating (an official US
rating scale to track player progress and ranking). There has been some significant growth this year!!!
April 4-7th, 2013 – Supernationals Tournament in Nashville, TN (over 5000 total participants)
1. OVMS had 2 representatives at this tournament
a. This tournament contains all grade levels (students do participate against high school students).
b. Zachary Henderson – Finished tied for 27th out of 400 students in the U1600 division (2nd highest division at this tournament …
scored 5 out of 7 points).
c. Gunnar Gaboury – Finished tied for 53rd out of 187 students in the U800 division (scored 4 out of 7 points in his first ever national
tournament respectively).
2. Zach is also traveling to the US open in Madison, WI this summer July 27th – August 4th.
This is basically the official United States Championship tournament for anyone … including all of the adult chess-masters in the US. We
wish good luck to Zach and look forward to the competition. If you think this is something you would like to do, then next year give Oak
View chess a shot.
THE QUEEN
By: Lily Hillman
I had the chance to interview one of the most intense super actors here at Oak
View middle school. Many of you might know her as Camile Toronto, or the
Queen in the Snow White Seven Dwarfs the school play. I asked her why did you
want to be in the play? She said “ever since she watched her sister performed
into the woods during her senior year (Camile was in 5th grade) she knew she wanted to act.
When she performed Pinocchio she felt her feelings connect with the play, she used it as a way
to express herself. When I asked her how long it took her to memorize her lines her first reaction
was “oh no” her answer was so long, weeks, 2 1/2 months. Wow!.... So, with all that memorization were you ever nervous? “Well, yes, every actor or actress gets nervous when they perform
in front of people they know but as soon as you’re on the stage and you can see they’re warming
up to you feel there response all nervousness goes out the window and you are like yeah I can
do this.” When she finished with her short speech I asked her if it was harder to perform in front
of parents or students? Her definite answer was STUDENTS. When I asked her why she said
that she saw all her friends in the front row trying to make her laugh. I asked her what other
tough parts there were in the play and she said “ab libs” and having to make the show go on.
Then the question came up about her costume and what it was she made a list. Her sister’s 7
layer prom dress, a white blouse she got for Christmas , black flats from last years play, and a
wig and crown from the directors. My next question was do you plan on doing theater in high
school her answer was yes it gets even more fun in high school. I asked her if she was happy
with the part she got her in the play almost before I finished the question she almost shouted
YES!!!!! My next question was if she planned on a career in acting and she said yes but before
she wants to get a degree in either psychology or architect or engineering or law in case acting
does not work out. When I asked if she liked the director she said yes he is so nice , funny , and
he gives lots of advice, he even has a little motto saying actors only respond to niceness. I asked
her how long it took to put the play together and she said 3 months but it felt so much longer. I
asked her to tell me about the play and she said do it next year definitely you will get so many
inside jokes with your friends and the directors like she did although she is going to miss the
8th graders. When I asked who her favorite characters were she said she loved the woodsman
because of his strength, Snow White because of her innocence, foggy the head dwarf and the
queen she was so funny. My next question was what were her favorite songs she said her top
three were I am mad where she threw her tantrum wicked old ladies with the witches, and the
prince’s entrance song. I asked her what her most embarrassing moments were and she said
when her wig fell off in the 7th grade performance and when she tripped in the 8thgrade performance. My final question was for words of encouragement and she said do the play and never tell
yourself you cannot do something, we need more guys, and HAVE FUN!!!!!!
HOMESTUCK
By Yasmine Baccam
Trolls and cherubs and kids, oh my! A webcomic animated and written by
Andrew Hussie known as Homestuck has influenced kids, students, and
especially teenagers since April 13, 2009 on www.mspaintadventures.com/
with it‘s puzzling plot, vivid settings, and heart-pulsing action to be part of
its fandom community. At Oak View, it has mostly made an impact on
students and they proudly represent being ‗homestucks‘ by cosplaying,
typing/writing with a specific typing quirk, and many other unique ways.
The adventure rapidly takes off on our protagonist‘s 13th birthday, John
Egbert, and his friends, Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley. The
latest computer game arrives in his mailbox, a beta version of an immersive
simulation game called Sburb. Little did they know that they could manipulate reality with help from the game. As they begin, a major conflict begins,
and as for John, a meteor shower annihilates his world. As the world unravels, they must escape using the tools the games gives them and flee
before the end meets them and enter a dimension called the Incipishpere
to a realm, Skaia. They are given guides called Kernelsprites to help them
with the rules of the game while using a system called a sylladex and understand the alchemy system in the game. During their journey, they are contacted by twelve trolls
who have played Sburb
before (or known as
Sgrub in their universe)
and successfully won the
game and found the purpose of the game, to
create a new universe
and the kids‘ universe
was created by all twelve of the trolls, led by Karkat Vantas. This is only
the beginning of the adventure and Hussie has taken a break from working
on Homestuck starting on April 14th to work on the final stretch of the
comic and start working on the Homestuck Adventure Game. It will take
about several months for both to be completed and Hussie has created 3
other adventurous webcomics on mspaintadventures called Jail Break, Bard
Quest, and Problem Sleuth.

Cupcake Wars!
By: Alli Coleman
Cupcake wars is
an after school
class this year.
This was the first
year of cupcake
wars! It was very
successful ! Cupcake wars is for
people who love to bake and have fun! It was run by FACS
teacher Ms. Bowman. We all had fun and hope Cupcake wars is
back next year. Cupcake wars ran for 4 weeks , it had different
flavors and themes of the cupcakes! The 1st week was funfetti
cupcakes made with only funfetti mix and sprite zero, no other
ingredients! The theme for the first week was spring! The second week was chocolate cupcakes made with apple sauce instead of oil. The theme for that second week was Sports! Week
3 was red velvet cupcakes also made with applesauce instead of
oil, the theme for that week was animals or under the sea. Finally week 4 was strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla cupcake
made with apple sauce again and since it was the last week there
was no theme, it was freestyle and this 4th week was not judged.
How the judging worked is Ms. Bowman and 2 or 3 other teachers came in and a person from each kitchen judged. They judged
on how well it went with the theme, neatness, looks, taste, and a
clean kitchen. From my experience cupcake wars was so fun and
a good learning experience, if its back next year I’m definitely
there. I recommend Cupcake Wars for people who like to bake,
want to have fun, and want a great baking experience.

Snow White’s Friend
By Riley Fletcher
Lily Hillman was one of Snow White's friends in the school play this
year. She had only 5 lines that took her only a day to memorize, but she
was still extremely nervous to go on stage. The toughest part for her
was the dance she and the other friends had to learn. She got it down,
though, in our months of preparation. Her favorite character by far was
her friend Snow White, played by Callie Dochterman, but Snow White
did not sing Lily's favorite song. Queen Hemlocka sang Lily's favorite
song as she had a temper tantrum. The costume that her mom helped
her with was made up of a skirt made from bandanas and a cream
blouse. Lily always loved being in plays. This was her fourth play, and despite her minor
part, she still loved it. In fact, she loved it so much that she wants to do as many school
plays as she can until she graduates. She said that the play was extremely frustrating partly
because of our strict directors but she still loved them and had fun in the end.
Target Vs Wal-Mart
in Andover
By: Paw Press I-team
Wal-Mart is coming to Andover MN. Wal-Mart
broke ground in the old POV‘s location directly across from
Target on Bunker Lake
Blvd. At the Andover
Planning and building commission meetings Andover
Homeowners views were
mixed. Many thought the
idea was horrible, others
thought that is was a good move for Andover. One long time
resident noted that Andover is going in the right direction…
Andover has moved from a Junk Yard in that site to a Sports
Bar, to a Wal-Mart. On the Andover Web site it is noted
that ―Wal-Mart is currently
under construction at the intersection of Jay Street and Bunker
Lake Boulevard. This is located
at the previous site of POV's
Sports Bar. Construction will
continue through 2013 with a
tentative opening planned for
early 2014. For questions
relating to Wal-Mart, please contact Dave Carlberg, Community Development Director, at 763-767-5140.‖ I had the
chance interview students about what they thought….. Nick
7th thought Wal-Mart would
bring ―interesting people from
Coon Rapids into Andover- A
Bad idea‖ he said. Sara said, ― I
like Target better- I‘m going
there. So I don‘t care‖ John
said, ― Wal-Mart is cool. They
have cheap stuff‖ Sam (6th) said,
―I don‘t like Wal-Mart‖ Madison
(6th) said, ― Half and half; enough stores in Andover, but a
Wal-Mart is cool‖ Tyler (6th) said, ― I think it will be good at
first, jobs to build it, but then Festival Food will likely close,
as well as other businesses that cannot sell as cheap as WalMart‖ Kina (6th), ―I love Wal-Mart‖ Brandon, (8th), said,
―Cool‖ Jack (6th) ― I think it‘s dumb to
open a store right across from Target.
Target is also better higher quality of
business.. I‘m mad about it‖ Mrs. B
said, ―The convenience will be nice- A
good thing‖ Carrington, said, ― I really
don‘t care‖ CJ, said, ― croweded spot,
but ok‖ Mr. C said, ― I‘m a Target fan‖ Mr. Carl said, ― Loves
Wal-Mart coming to Andover, bigger tax base, more businesses mean higher property values, more jobs. A great
thing‖ Mrs. O said, ― Yes, easier to stop at when I‘m driving
home‖ Mrs. K said, ― Super, they have big supply of reasonable priced school supplies. Tyler, said, ―Closer to my house,
Yes‖ Overall, feelings are mixed; but Wal–Mart is coming
and like someone said. Not everyone gets a Wal-Mart and
Target in their town...So Andover must be a cool place!

Willy Kron: Prince and Woodsman
By: Riley Fletcher
Arguably two of the funniest characters in the school play this year
were Prince Dustin Dumpling and the Woodsman, Mr. Whosit. These two parts
were played by Willy Kron, a seventh grader here at Oak View. Between his
two roles, it took until two weeks before the performance to memorize his
lines, and we practiced for 3 months! He didn't have to worry much about a
costume though, unlike the other cast members; since his dad works at Anoka
Middle School, Willy got to pick from their stage's costume collection. Despite his nerves (especially
when he had to "kiss" Snow White), Willy enjoyed being in the plays: both this year and last. Despite
this, Willy's friends had to pressure him to join the play last year. However, it was all worth it. He
discovered his love for acting, but he still dislikes the singing aspect of the musicals. He plans to audition for all the plays next year and in high school. Willy claims he never made ANY mistakes (but the
director said that a true actor never admits messing up). However, he will share his of great acting to
you: OVER EXAGGERATE EVERYTHING AND BE LOUD!
