Silk Painting March 15th!
Our Demonstration March 15th at
7:00 PM will be Silk Painting by
Mary Herzig. Silk Painting is an ancient art dating back to 2600 BC in
China. The dyes used are liquids absorbed into the fabric. Mary will
start an impromptu drawing on the
silk and let the audience each have
the experience of helping paint the
silk. When the paint is done the silk
will be raffled off.

News from the Gallery Committee
Bob reported on “Observations from the SAL Gallery Desk” and noted that we had more visitors to the Gallery these days and
not just Henegar class people etc but they actually came specifically to see the Gallery! Unfortunately, during the meeting, it
started raining and we noticed that it sounded as if it was raining inside and uh-oh! it was! In the studio space rented by Ed the
rain was pelting down on an empty (luckily) canvas on his desk. We quickly moved what we could and Bob alerted the Henegar
Staff and they called the contractor. He was not a happy camper and we did not talk to him. We left the AC on to keep down the
mold effect.

Work on the “front storage area to our office” so we can rent out the old office as studio are underway and very soon all
items not being used by the Gallery or office will be removed by the volunteers from the space. Come and claim your stuff as
soon as you possibly can! Thanks in advance for this!
Jean Painter Johnson has donated a round whirling card rack to the Gallery! Thanks! So artists get your cards and postcards of
your art made soon! Let’s fill it up! Kathy McElhinny donated a small refrigerator to the Gallery and SAL. Thanks!

An update for the SAL Attic sale/Garage Sale was given by VP Kathy and we can’t do it at the Henegar Center but we can do
it at Kathy’s house. Kathy says call her to pick up your stuff if you need her to. Otherwise, bring your items to2861 St James
Lane, Melbourne Fl. 32935. Kathy’s phone is 321-368-7002 give her a call to coordinate. The dates for the event are Friday
April 13th and Saturday April 14th from 8am to 2pm both days. We will need volunteers those days for whatever you can do.
And maybe the Thursday before for some tagging, pricing and sorting.
 Plans for the SAL Art Auction are that it will take place at the Henegar with a silent auction. We would set up the items at the
Henegar for Wednesday, May 9th thru May 12th and have the actual auction May 12 Saturday evening 7-9pm. There are
also 2 Henegar events we could “tap into” their customer base with Thursday and Friday night! Kathy wants to put the items
pictures and bid sheets on the SAL Facebook page as well. The auction would be available for bidding Thursday through Friday night. Get your art pieces ready for this Auction! We will need volunteers to man the evenings of Thursday May 10 th and
Friday May 11th the time of the shows and the night of the event Saturday May 12th 7-9pm.
 Plans for promoting SAL at First Friday in Eau Gallie this month are not have a tent but to promote SAL by handing out flyers
about SAL and our upcoming events. Donna will write up an event calendar and SAL basic membership info to hand out.
Donna, Leala and others can use these to mill about and drum up new members and interest. These will be on Facebook and
be available for all members to hand out etc. Remember, anyone can get a space in the park for $20 for that night. Call EGAD
Jillian (phone #?) to reserve.
Kathy also proposed an Open Art night which was officially dubbed BYOA for Bring Your Own Art night each Monday night from
7-9pm cost of FREE for members and $5 for non-members. Bring your own project and work with others! This will start immediately call SAL for details.
Feel the sizzle of synergy abounding!
*We will do this same BYOA for the Tuesday Equinox of Mar 20th 4-6 pm.
Fused Glass a Smashing Hit!
Donna Spencer of Innerwrap Studio came to present on Thursday, February 16th to talk about the history of glass making. She also brought in
samples of her work and entertained our League members with the different ways glass art is formed. Donna made a beautiful slide show with examples of Greek, Egyptian and modern glass methods. We learned that
red glass is the most expensive because it comes from gold. Also blue
glass comes from copper. The temperature that is heated is very important
to making the right piece.
A special thanks to Donna for helping the Strawbridge Art League to
obtain a publicity opportunity with
Senior Life Magazine! Look for it
this Spring!
