President’s Message
Over the past 43 years we’ve experienced a lot of firsts at
Thunderbird Show Park and this year will be no exception. On June 3rd, 2016, we’ll welcome teams from across
the globe to compete in the Furusiyya Nations Cup. It’s
one of only three in North America and we couldn’t be
more thrilled to be chosen to host this event. I hope that
you’ll all come out on the big day to cheer for your country!
In preparation, we’re proud to announce a new FEI barn to
accommodate our growing roster of international competitors featuring 12’ stalls that are sure to provide improved
comfort and safety for our equine guests.
We’re also pleased to open the gates to another new silica
ring. Our ‘Hunter Mecca’ is complete and ready to host
two WCHR AA shows and fourteen Hunter Derby’s for
2016!
They say it takes a village and in our case, that’s certainly
true. We couldn’t do the things we do without the dedication of our amazing staff who work hard and have fun
promoting the sport we love.
It also takes the support of our competitors who make the
choice to show with us ever year. We know there are seemingly endless options to choose from out there and we truly
appreciate being part of your season.
I would also like to recognize our patrons and sponsors.
They believe in us, and the work we do, returning year
after year with energy and enthusiasm. Their commitment
is what drives us to strive for more and challenge ourselves
to be better every season.

Vice President’s Message
Well, 2015 was an amazing year. We welcomed more
exhibitors to the Thunderbird grounds than any previous
season and had such a great time doing it thanks to our
team. Our staff, officials, volunteers and sponsors never
cease to amaze me and I thank you all.
We were very fortunate to kick off the Longines FEI
World Cup Jumping North American League on the west
coast. Competitors and spectators alike were treated to an
exhilarating first round and even more thrilling jump off.
I mean, Spooner versus Fellers? They are two of the fastest
in the sport and they delivered!
The class was historic for Tbird and we’re excited about
the direction that the league is taking the World Cup
series. I’m proud of everything that was accomplished
and looking forward to what’s to come. If 2016 rolls out
in similar fashion, you’ll see me smiling all around the
grounds.

the in-gate booths throughout hunter land.
On the personal side, my wife Jessie and I welcomed our
baby boy, Wyatt Blaydon Pack, into the world and he’s
been keeping us busy ever since. I’m sure you will see
him around the Park this summer, and if I look tired, it’s
because I am. I take two cream and two sugars in my coffee,
please and thank you. On a related note, there must be
something in the water. The Tbird family is also thrilled
to announce that our Hospitality Manager, Caitlan, is
expecting and will be sporting a pronounced baby bump
this summer – which will be here before you know it.
The show season starts early this year, with our newly rated
Season Opener in April. What can I say? We’re excited to
introduce you to all the additions at Tbird for 2016!

Construction is underway on all of our winter projects so
that we’ll be ready for your arrival this summer. First up,
we’re working on a new stabling barn for the FEI horses, a
manure bunker and an adjacent wash rack. The next major

Series are tabulated Saturday evenings of each Tournament
and Award Presentations take place during the pre-show of the
Sunday Grand Prix. Series Presentations will take place at the
Summer Fort Festival. New for 2016: April Season Opener to
count for Series Awards.
Alf Fletcher Equestrian Excellence Award
Established in 2010, the Alf Fletcher Equestrian Excellence
Award honors the memory of Alf Fletcher and his
considerable lifetime contribution to the horse industry.
The Alf Fletcher Equestrian Excellence award will be
presented to the rider who accumulates the most points in
the CET, Jump Canada Hunter Seat Medal, USEF Show
Jumping Talent Search, ASPCA Maclay, USEF Hunt Seat
Medal and the WIHS Equitation medal classes held during
Thunderbird Show Park’s 2016 Tournaments.
Amperage Energy Jr/Am Jumper Challenge
This award will be presented to the overall horse/rider
combination, who achieves the most points in the
Amperage Energy Jr/Am Jumper Challenge 1.30m classes
throughout the 2016 Season. Winner to receive a $1,000
Tbird Show Bursary.
Antares - Ride of the Show
Antares is proud to participate in the ongoing sponsorship
of special awards at Thunderbird Show Park. In 2016,
Antares is pleased to present the “Ride of the Show
Awards.” The winning rider of the week, selected by our
Hunter and Jumper Judges will be honored with a stunning

County Saddlery
A County Saddle will be generously donated by Isauro
Flores and Ingrid Brown. This will be awarded to the top
BC Junior or Amateur Rider who receives the most points
in the Modified Junior/Amateur 1.15m Jumper Division
throughout the 2016 season.
CWD Sellier
CWD is pleased to present a state of the art CWD 2G
Saddle to the 2016 high point rider in the 1.30m Open
Jumper Division and to the winner of the Ashby Group
Hunter Derby Series. Stop by the Red CWD showcase
and see the British Columbia Representative for more

Ashby Group Hunter Derby Series
This award will be presented to the overall horse/rider
combination, who achieves the most points in the four
Ashby Group Canadian Hunter Derby classes held during
the April Season Opener, BC Open, Western Family and
Summer Fort Classic competitions. Winner to receive
a CWD Hunter Style 2G Saddle. Sponsored by Karen
and Christina Ashby of Dexter Associates Realty; a
mother daughter team serving the real estate needs of the
equestrian community in BC.
Fairweather Farms
The Fairweather Farms Derby Series has been established
to foster the development of 3’ Child and Adult riders.
We wish all competitors good luck and are so pleased for
the “Fairweather” during our derby. Each class winner will
receive a prize cooler and there are special ribbons to eighth.
Little Creek Dressing Leading Lady Rider
Awarded to the leading female rider throughout the
International Division at the BC Open CSIO4*.
Maplebrook Farm Young Horse Showcase
This series is designed to encourage the development of
young show jumping talent by welcoming breeders to
Thunderbird Show Park to showcase superior prospects.
Set in the grass Fort Grand Prix Field, these classes are one
of the season’s special highlights and give breeders, trainers
and prospective buyers, the opportunity to view the results
of our industry’s best breeding programs in a competitive
setting. We extend our sincerest thanks to Teri Erickson
for her support of this cornerstone program!

Under 25 Developing Rider Series
The Tbird Handy Hunter Challenge is offered at each
tournament. Designed to recognize hunter handiness in
the show ring. This series is based on the horse and rider
combination and will offer a 3' and 3'6" section.
Fences to 1.40m. Open to all riders from the beginning
of the calendar year in which they reach the age of 16
until the end of the calendar year in which they reach
the age of 25. Points will be accumulated through out the
designated classes towards the series award. Top rider will
be recognized for each class during the ribbon presentation.
To be eligible riders will be required to declare their intent
by 5pm the day prior. It is only necessary to declare once.

HUNTER SPECIFICATIONS
Green Hunters & Conformation Hunters
Green Hunters: A horse of any age in its first year or second
year of showing in any classes in which the specifications
require the horse to jump 3’6” or higher, regardless of
whether or not the fences are actually set at 3’6” or higher.
A horse in its first year of showing over fences 3’6” or
higher must be shown as a first year green horse. A horse
in its second year of showing over fences 3’6” or higher
must be shown as a second year green horse. A horse’s
green status is considered to be broken once it competes
over fences 3’6” or higher. Conformation Hunters: If
there are more than 5 First Year Green Conformation
horses and 5 Second Year Green Conformation horses,
the division will be separated. If the division is combined,
First Year horses will jump 3’6”, Second Year horses will
jump 3’9” and Regular Conformation horses will jump
3’9”. All conformation sections are to be judged at 70%
on performance and 30% on conformation. Model Class
will count for 1/2 points towards division championship.

Open to junior riders. Riders may not cross enter into any
class at 3’6” or higher in the hunter division, higher than
3’7” in the equitation division or higher than 1.10m in
the jumper division at the same competition. Exception:
Riders are permitted to compete in any Children’s Jumper
class and/or Classic held at a maximum of 1.15m at the
same competition. Horses entered in Junior Hunter 3’3”
sections may not cross enter into Junior Hunter 3’6”
sections at the same competition; Junior Hunter 3’3”,
Small Junior Hunter Younger 3’6”, Small Junior Hunter
Older 3’6”, Large Junior Hunter Younger 3’6”, Large Junior
Hunter Older 3’6”. Small Juniors are 16hh and under,

USHJA Pre-Green Incentive Program
Amateur Owner & Junior Hunters 3’3” & 3’6” Open to horses of any age that are eligible to compete
Amateur Owner Divisions: To be ridden by Amateur
Owners or an amateur member of the owner’s family. In
either case, classes are restricted to riders who are no longer
eligible to compete as junior exhibitors. Leased horses
are not eligible and multiple ownership is not permitted
unless all owners are of the same family. Amateur Owner
divisions will be combined with other Amateur Owner
or Junior Hunter divisions if less than 6 entries. Amateur
Owner Hunter 3’3” riders may cross enter between Adult
Amateur Hunter 3’0” and Amateur Owner Hunter 3’6”.
Horses may not cross enter between divisions. Offered
as followed: Amateur Owner 18 to 35 Hunters 3’6” and
3’3” / Amateur Owner 36 & Over Hunters 3’6” and 3’3”.
Junior Hunter Divisions: Riders must not have reached
their 18th birthday as of December 1st of the previous
calendar year. Horses cannot be entered in more than one
section of Junior Hunters. Riders may not ride more than
two horses. Riders may not cross enter into Children’s
Hunters. Junior Hunter divisions are offered as follows and
as a pre-green hunter under Federation rules. A horse’s
pre-green status which is reinstated in accordance with
Federation rules is eligible to compete in a USHJA PreGreen Stake Class provided all other requirements have
been met. There will be one 3’ and one 3’3” class offered
at all of our Summer competitions, excluding the April
Season Opener. The entry fee for the PGIP Stake class is
$100 and the prize money is $1000.00 + $50 added back
for each horse entered. Prize money will be offered to 12th
place; 30%, 22%, 13%, 8%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 3%, 2%,
2%, 2%. Scores will be announced.
Horses must be enrolled in the USHJA Pre-Green
Incentive Program and pay the annual enrollment fee to
participate in the PGIP Stake classes and to be eligible
for the PGIP Championship. Additionally, horses must
be registered with USHJA and recorded with USEF to
participate. Horses must be enrolled in the Pre-Green
Incentive Program prior to competing in a Pre-Green
Stake Class.
Pre-Green Hunters; 1st Year 3’ & 2nd Year 3’3 same competition. Adult Amateur Hunters are offered in
Pre-Green Hunter: A horse of any age that is in it’s first
two consecutive years of showing over fences in classes
with height restrictions laid out in Equine Canada Article
G303.1 & G303.3. First Year Pre-Green horses will jump
3’. Second Year Pre-Green horses will jump 3’3”. Cross
entry is not permitted into any class with fences at 3’6”
or higher.
Pony Hunters | Respective Heights
Ponies that are ridden by an adult in the competition may
not be ridden by a junior at the same competition. Small
ponies are not to exceed 12.2 hands, medium ponies are
over 12.2 hands but do not exceed 13.2 hands and large
ponies are over 13.2 hands but do not exceed 14.2 hands.
Ponies entered in the Small, Medium or Large Pony
Hunter divisions are required to have a valid measurement
card or be measured by the show steward. Sign up times
for measurements are reserved through the Competition
Office. Pony divisions with less than 6 entries will be
combined. Pony Hunter classes are open to ponies ridden
by junior riders subject to the following restrictions:
the following sections: Adult Amateur Hunter 18 to 35,
Adult Amateur Hunter 36-49, Adult Amateur Hunter 50
& Over.
Children’s Hunter 3’0”
Riders entered in Children’s Hunter sections may not
compete in any other hunter class where fences exceed
3’3” or jumper classes where fences exceed 3’3” at the same
competition. Riders entering this division are not eligible
for EC or CET Medal classes. Horses entered in Children’s
Hunter classes may not cross enter into Junior Hunters
at the same competition. Horses entered in Children’s
Hunter classes may be shown in the Amateur Owner
Hunter section at the same competition if ridden by any
member of the child’s family. Children’s Hunter classes are
offered in the following sections: Children’s Hunter 15-17,
Children’s Hunter 14 & Under.
Baby Green Hunters 2’6”
Junior A riders may ride large ponies only.
Open to horses and ponies that have not shown over a
course of fences at any show or event prior to January 1st of
the current year. Fences may be jumped at a trot or canter.
Cross entry not permitted in classes with fences over 2’6”.
Junior B & C riders may ride ponies of all heights.
Young Hunter Development Class 2’6”
Adults are permitted to show (be judged) large
ponies in miscellaneous non-point classes not
limited to juniors and adult amateurs may ride
large ponies in adult amateur classes where fences
do not exceed 3’ (0.90). A pony judged with an
adult may not be judged in classes with a junior at the
same competition. Juniors of any age may show any
height of pony in miscellaneous non-point classes.
Open to horses in their first year of showing.
Pre Child | Pre Adult Hunters 2’6”
Open to all horse/rider combinations where the rider does
not jump higher than 2’6” at the same competition.
Short | Long Stirrup Hunters 2’3”
Open to all horse/rider combinations where the rider does
not jump higher than 2’6” at the same competition. There
will be no oxers set in this division.
Child Pony Hunters
Short Stirrup Pony Hunters 2’3”
May not cross enter into any rated section. Smalls will
show at 2’, mediums will show at 2’3” and larges will show
at 2’6”.
Open to all pony/rider combinations where the rider does
not jump higher than 2’6” at the same competition. There
will be no oxers set in this division.
Adult Amateur Hunter 3’0”
Green Rider Hunter 18”
To be ridden by amateurs. Horses and riders entered in
adult amateur hunter sections may not compete in the
amateur owner section at the same competition. Riders
entered in adult amateur hunter sections may not compete
in any other hunter class in which obstacles exceed 3’3”
or jumper class in which obstacles exceed 1.0m at the
Open to any riders in their first year of showing or under
the age of eight.
Novice Rider Hunter 2’
Open to any riders in their second year of showing or under
the age of twelve.
USHJA International Hunter Derby
Round One | Hunter Classic Course: Open to all riders,
horses and ponies. There will be a minimum of 10 jumps.
Fence height 3’6” to 4’0, with a maximum of 50% of the
jumps set at 3’6” and four option fences at a minimum
of 4’3”. Course to include at least one In and Out, one
Bending Line, one line with an unrelated distance and one
long approach. Obstacles will simulate the hunt field and
course will offer a variety of Derby jumps with different
appearances such as: natural post and rail, stone wall,
white board fence or gate, coop, aiken, hedge, oxer, brush,
logs, natural foliage. Natural obstacles such as banks and
ditches are encouraged. A 3” difference is required for the
back element of an obstacle. Ground lines will not exceed
18” in depth from the vertical plane of the jump. For
appropriate jumps, no ground line is acceptable. Ground
lines will be of one material for each jump.
Round Two | Handy Hunter Course: There will be a
minimum of 8 obstacles. Fence height 3’6” to 4’, with a
maximum of 50% of the jumps set at 3”6” and four option
fences at a minimum of 4’3”. The course will simulate
riding over trappy country and will have a minimum of at
least 3 handy options, such as: tight turn options, different
track options, clever options for jump approaches, pen type
obstacles, hand gallop a jump, trot a lowered obstacle, walk
over an obstacle not to exceed 18” in height, lead over
an obstacle, halt/and or back, open gate while mounted.
Gimmicky options are not appropriate. Obstacles will
simulate the hunt field and course and offer a variety of
Derby jumps with different appearances such as: natural
post and rail, stone wall, white board fence, coop, aiken,
hedge, oxer, brush, logs, natural foliage. Natural obstacles

24 Hour Check In: Horses competing in a USHJA
International Hunter Derby are not required to jog,
however there is a mandatory 24 hour check-in. Check in
will be conducted Friday May 27th and Friday August 26th
at 3:00pm outside of the Competition Office. All horses
entered in the International Hunter Derby class will checkin 24 hours prior to the start of the first round in order to
compete. All horses are required to be officially entered in
the first class before check-in. The official check-in shall
be conducted by the competition steward. Management
may choose the method in which the Official Check-In
is conducted. Each horse’s back number and stall number
are to be provided to the steward regardless of the method
of check-in.
Order of Go: In the case of multiple horses being ridden
by the same rider, competition management will pre-select
draw positions for each horse. When possible, every effort
will be made to provide a minimum of eight horses (if
available) separating multiple rides. All horses must be
ridden in the sequence that appears on the jumping order
in the First Round of the competition. In the Second
Round horses will return in reverse order of their First
Round scores (lowest to highest). Due to multiple rides,
riders may elect to move up in the order. Should a jump-off
occur, horses will return in the same order in which they
competed in the Second Round.
Attire: Formal dress attire, white or buff breeches, shad
belly, dark coat (official sponsor or team jacket permitted).
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HUNTER RIDER
National Awards Program
Professional, Junior and Amateur Riders are invited to compete by qualifying through the WCHR National program
throughout the year. A rider’s top four WCHR shows count toward awards in these divisions: Professional and Emerging
Professional, Junior, Amateur Owner (3’6” and 3’3”), Adult Amateur and Pony.
Specifications
The rider must be an active member of the WCHR to be eligible for WCHR Awards. The owner needs to be an active
member of the WCHR to be eligible for WCHR Horse and Owner Awards. WCHR points will be recorded according
to the division indicated on the membership application. The member may change division selections by contacting the
WCHR office in writing. With the exception of the under saddle class, riders must ride the same horse throughout the
entire hunter division to receive WCHR points.

Riders earn National points by competing at any WCHR show. Riders who compete on more than one horse will only
earn points on their leading horse at each show, Model Classes will not count. Only points from the rider’s top four
WCHR shows will count toward year-end National Awards. In order to be eligible for the WCHR National Adult
Amateur Award, riders may not have participated in the Amateur Owner 3’6” Hunter division or any other hunter
section where the fences exceed 3’3” (on any horse) after June 1 of the current competition year. (Note: AO riders in
the 3’3” division are eligible for the WCHR National Adult Amateur Awards as long as they have not shown in the AO
3’6” division after June 1 of the current competition year)

Pessoa/U.S. Hunter Seat Medal
Class #500 | Height: 3’6”
Open to all junior members of USEF. To be shown over
a course of not less than 8 obstacles at 3’6” which will
include one combination with an oxer and two changes of
direction. A minimum of 6 riders required to fill the class.
ASPCA Maclay Medal
Open to all junior riders. All riders and trainers are required
to be active members of ASPCA/NHSSA and show their
ASPCA numbers on the entry form. A minimun of 6 riders
required to fill the class.
Class #505 | Height: 1.0m
Open to junior and amateur riders who are members of
Equine Canada. CET membership is not required. The
class will be judged under the same rules and regulations as
the CET Medal. No cross entry into the CET Medal at the
same competition. Three entries are required to complete
the course. If less than 3 riders complete the course or
there are less than 3 entries in the class, the following rules
will apply: 1. All class speciifications must be adhered to
in all cases, 2. Scoring as follows: 80+ = 1st place points,
75-79 = 2nd place points, 70-74 = 3rd place points, 65-69
= 4th place points, below 65 = no points.
CET Medal
Thunderbird Good Hands & Seat Medal
Class #504 | Height: 1.10m to 1.15m
Class #502 | Height: .9m
Open to all junior riders who are gold members of Equine
Canada and the CET and have not reached their 21st
birthday. The class is judged 60% over fences and 40%
on the flat. The class will be run under jumper rules. The
flat phase is to include lengthening of stride and counter
canter. The course will consist of at least 10 fences 1.10m
to 1.15m in height with spreads to 1.40m. A time allowed
will be established based on the speed of 350 meters per
minute. Change of tack is permitted between phases.
Martingales are not permitted in the flat phase, and only
running martingales are permitted over fences. Three
entries are required to complete the course. If less than 3
riders complete the course or there are less than 3 entries
in the class, the following rules will apply: 1. All class
specifications must be adhered to in all cases, 2. Scoring as
follows: 80+ = 1st place points, 75-79 = 2nd place points,
70-74 = 3rd place points, 65-69 = 4th place points, below
65 = no points. West Coast Classic and Western Family
will be run as a gymnastics and flat phase.
Open to all junior and amateur riders. The course will
consist of 8 to 10 jumps with a minimum of 2 combinations,
one will be a triple with a minimum of two changes of
direction. Tack is not restricted. A water jump will not be
used. The top 15 scoring riders will be eligible to compete
at the finals held at the BCHJA Fall Finale. Finals will call
for a ride off.
Thunderbird Good Hands & Seat Medal Final
Please note that the finals will take place at the BCHJA
Fall Finale Sept 22nd-25th, 2016. Open to all junior and
amateur riders. The course will consist of eight to ten
jumps and have a minimum of two combinations, one
of which will be a triple combination. There will be a
minimum of two changes of direction. Performance will
be judged on rider’s ability to readily control his/her horse
while negotiating the course, with good timing, rhythm,
ease and good form. Winner of the finals may continue
riding in this class but is ineligible for future finals. Tack is

of USEF who have not reached their 21st birthday.
Competitors will use the same horse in both phases. Only
those who have competed in both phases can receive a
score in the final round. 6 riders need to complete the
course to fill the class.
Platinum Performance/USEF Talent Search
Open to members of USEF who have not reached their
21st birthday. Competitors must use the same horse in both
phases. A water jump, liverpool or a jump simulating water
will be used in the jumper phase. The jumping phase of the
class shall be over a course of at least ten fences 3’6” to 3’9”
in height with spreads to 5’0”. Each course will contain no
fewer than three fences set at 3’9” in height. The course
will include a double and a triple combination or three
double combinations. Twenty riders or 50% of entries
(whichever is greater) will be called back for a second
phase. Rider participation in the first phase, whether it is
jumping or flat phase, constitutes entry into the class as a
whole regardless of whether the rider is called back for the
second phase. Six riders need to complete the course to fill.
THIS Children’s Medal
Open to all junior members of USEF or Equine Canada
who have never competed in a National Equitation Final
with fences at 3’6”. The top four riders are required to
perform at least two individual tests from USEF test 1-19.
ARIAT National Adult Medal
Open to members of USEF or Equine Canada who are
eligible to compete in the Adult Amateur Hunter Section
of this show. The top four riders are required to perform at
least two individual tests from USEF tests 1-19.
Jump Canada Hunt Seat Medal
Class#514 | Height: 3’6”
Current Equine Canada Gold membership is required.
Judged 60% over fences and 40% flat. There is a mandatory
ride off of the top four. No change of tack between phases.
Three entries are required to complete the course. If less
than 3 entries in the class, the following rules will apply:

JUMPER SPECIFICATIONS
Jumper Divisions Under 1.10m

Open to horses that have nominated to either the
Thunderbird Ring or the Pacific Park Ring. Open Jumper
divisions are open to all horses and riders. Junior Amateur
Divisions are open to all horses and riders who are Juniors
or Amateurs. Classes will be run as either table 238.2.2 or
table 238.2.1. Refer to the weekly schedules available at
the Competition Office. Award for the winner and ribbons
to 6th place. Each division will be awarded championships.
Juniors and Amateurs: A horse/rider combination is
permitted unlimited upward movement, but downward
movement is restricted to one level only. These movements
are based on the level of the first class in which they
competed. Professionals are permitted unlimited upward
and downward movement.
Children & Adult Amateur Jumper 1.10m
Open to horses nominated to the Thunderbird Signature
Ring and ridden by either Junior (Children) or Amateur
(Adult Amateur) riders. Riders may not compete in Junior
or Amateur Owner Divisions or any jumper class over
1.15m. If there is less than 8 riders in either Children’s
or Adult Amateur Jumpers, divisions may be combined.
The fourth class of each division will be a $250 stake class.
Classes will be run as either table 238.2.2 or table 238.2.1.

Training I , II Jumper Divisions 1.10m - 1.15m

Clear Round Jumping
Horses are required be checked into the competition and
wearing their competition numbers prior to entry into
Clear Round Jumping. Clear Round Jumping takes place
on Tuesdays in the Thunderbird Ring, the Pacific Park
Ring and Thunderbowl Ring. Entries into Clear Round
Jumping are taken by the In Gate staff. The fee is $25 per
round.
Junior | Amateur Owner Jumper Divisions
Open to horses nominated to the Fort Grand Prix Field,
and ridden by Juniors or Amateur Owners. A rider in the
Junior/Amateur divisions may not cross enter into the
Children’s or Adult Amateur divisions. Classes will be
run as either table 238.2.2 or table 238.2.1. Trophy for
the winner and ribbons to 6th place. Each division will be
awarded championships.
Winning Round - Table A Section 276.2
The top 12 placed horse/rider combinations from the first
round will come back to compete in the second round.
All will start over with a zero score, but come back in
reverse order of scores from the first round. Placing will be
according to penalties and time in the second round.

Class 402 $1,000 3’0 & 3’3” Junior/Amateur/Pre-Green | Entry Fee: $90
Class 403 $1,000 3’6” Open | Entry Fee: $90
Open to all horses and riders who have competed in at least one class at the same competition. Horses to
compete at the same height as they have shown at that competition. The Derby is a one round format.
Judging: each competitor will receive a score comprised of three components. 1. Hunter Score (out of 100)
- The class is judged as a hunter handy class. 2. High Performance Bonus (up to 10 points) - Two bonus
points awarded for each high performance option taken on course (eg. higher jump, natural obstacles, more
challenging line options). 3. Handy Bonus (up to 10 bonus points) - 0 to 10 bonus points awarded at the
judge’s discretion for additional handiness and high performance displayed on course, including: efficiency
of stride, unique turns and approaches, inside turns, slices, athleticism, boldness and impressionable start
and finish. The course will include at least 12 jumps and fence height will be 3’0” with option fences of 3’3”,
3’3” with option fences of 3’5” and 3’6” with option fences of 3’9” to 4’3”. Only the 3’6” section is a qualifier
for the National Finals. Formal Attire is required. Please see prize money chart for payout information.

Open to all riders and horses who have competed in at least two classes at the same competition. Horses, Riders, Owners
and Trainers must be USEF/USHJA members to collect points. Class will be two rounds with open scoring and the
top 10 will return for the second round. No cross entry between the USHJA National Hunter Derby and the USHJA
International Hunter Derby. Fence height will be 3’ with four high option fences set at 3’5”. Money won will only count
for any USHJA National Hunter Derby standings or awards if the rider, owner and trainer are current Active members of
USEF and USHJA, and the horse is registered with USHJA. Prize Money: 1st - $750, 2nd - $550, 3rd - $325, 4th - $200,

There will be one clear round class (Table A 238.1.1) tentatively scheduled for Thursday in the Fort Grand Prix Ring. A
$100 credit per class will be applied to your show bill as long as the Saturday class is shown. Only the final class of each
show will count toward Series points and award prize money. Please present registration papers showing proof of age and
breeding information with entry form to the Competition Office. Horses born after October 1 of the calendar year are
eligible to compete in the age category of the next year. Open to all riders and both EC and USEF/USHJA horses. The
4 & 5 Year Olds time allowed is 300m per min, 6 & 7 Year Olds time allowed is 350m per min. The 4 Year Olds will
be judged in the following manner: 50% on jumping style, way of going and future potential and 50% on performance.
Faults will result in -5 points from performance score, time faults: -1 from performance score. The 7 year olds will be
return jump off, all others immediate unless otherwise posted. Class 437, 438 and 439 will be run according to Table A
Article 238.2.2. Ribbons to eighth place. 4 Year Olds and 5 Year Olds will count as qualifing classes for the Young Jumper
Championships. Young Horses will be required to pay the Grand Prix Nomination. Four & Five year olds will count as
qualifying classes for the Young Jumper Championships.
Open to all riders and horses who have competed in at least two classes at the same competition. The class will be two
rounds with open scoring and the top ten will return for the second round. There will be a minimum of 10 jumps. Fence
height 3’6” to 4’0, with a maximum of 50% of the jumps set at 3’6” and four option jumps set at a minimum of 4’3”.

same height as they have shown at that competition. The Derby is a one round format. Judging: each competitor will
receive a score comprised of three components. 1. Hunter Score (out of 100) - The class is judged as a hunter handy class.
2. High Performance Bonus (up to 10 points) - Two bonus points awarded for each high performance option taken on
course (eg. higher jump, natural obstacles, more challenging line options). 3. Handy Bonus (up to 10 bonus points) - 0
to 10 bonus points awarded at the judge’s discretion for additional handiness and high performance displayed on course,
including: efficiency of stride, unique turns and approaches, inside turns, slices, athleticism, boldness and impressionable
start and finish. The course will include at least 12 jumps and fence height will be 3’0” with option fences of 3’3”, 3’3”
with option fences of 3’5” and 3’6” with option fences of 3’9” to 4’3”. Only the 3’6” section is a qualifier for the National

Thunderbird maintains a solid number two position. The friendly

Thunderbird was the first to host one of the Fourteen Longines FEI World
Cup Jumping Events, and they did it with splendour.

Open to all horses and riders who have competed in at least two classes at the same competition. No cross entry
permitted between 3’6” classes and this Classic. Class will be two rounds with open scoring and top ten will return for
the second round. Fence height 3’. No zone points awarded for this Classic. Prize money: 1st - $1,250, 2nd - $1,000, 3rd
- $800, 4th - $500, 5th - $400, 6th - $300, 7th - $250, 8th - $250, 9th and 10th - $125.

SATURDAY JULY 2, 2016
This class will take place in the combined Grand Hunter and Dina Happy Hunter Rings. Obstacles will simulate those
of the hunt field. Round One will be a regular Classic Course. Top 12 to return for a Handy Round. Potential of 5
bonus points will be given for turnout of horse and rider, and handy points may be taken away for risks not taken on
course. There will be up to three tests during the Handy Round ie: opening a mailbox, stopping for a drink, opening
a gate. Horses may only compete in one section. Riders may ride multiple horses, but may not cross enter between
sections. Open section will ride a different course. Formal Attire is required. Cooler for the overall winner of each class
and ribbons to twelfth. Prizes for the winner of each round. Please see prize money chart for payout information.
Class #452 | $5,000 Child/Adult/Jr/Am 3’-3’3” | Entry Fee: $250
Fences 3’-3’3” with at least three 3’6” high options. Riders will walk without trainers, but may walk with other competitors in this section. Open to all Child, Adult, Junior and Amateur riders who have not competed at 3’9” or higher
at this competition.

Open to all Thoroughbreds with valid tattoo or papers from The Jockey Club or CTHS. Copy of the papers must be
provided to the Horse Show Office or tattoo verified by a Steward or Vet. Choice in three heights will be offered
(0.75m, 0.9m or 1.0m). Horse/Rider combination will jump at their divison height. If that height is not available they
are permitted to compete at the next closest down. The class will be run in an immediate jump off format (FEI Article
238 Table A, 2.2). Winner will receive a Cooler. This class is also a qualifier for the $500 East-West Series Challenge
Bonus for top point Thoroughbred in 2016.

The course will consist of 12-16 fences up to 1.40m and will include a double and triple combination. Open to horses
nominated to the Fort Grand Prix Ring. Award for first place and ribbons to eighth place. The order of go will be
computer drawn. All horses entered in the Grand Prix classes are required to be stabled on the grounds 24 hours prior to
the start time of the class and may not leave until the class is completed. Class will be run as a one jump off according
to Table A 238.2.2. Please see prize money chart for payout information.

There will be one clear round class (Table A 238.1.1) prior to the Saturday class tentatively scheduled for Friday in the
Fort Grand Prix Ring. A $100 credit per class will be applied to your show billas long as the Saturday class is shown. Only
the final class of each show will count towards Series points and award prize money. Please present registration papers
showing proof of age and breeding information with entry form to the Competition Office. Horses born after October
1 of the calendar year are eligible to compete in the age category of the next year. Open to all riders and both EC and
USEF/USHJA horses. The 4 & 5 Year Olds time allowed is 300m per min, 6 & 7 Year Olds time allowed is 350m per
min. The 4 Year Olds will be judged in the following manner: 50% on jumping style, way of going and future potential
and 50% on performance. Faults will result in -5 points from performance score, time faults: -1 from performance score.
The 7 year olds will be return jump off, all others immediate unless otherwise posted. Class 437, 438 and 439 will be
run according to Table A Article 238.2.2. Ribbons to eighth place. Young horses will be required to pay the Grand Prix
nomination. Four & Five Year olds will count as qualifying classes for the Young Jumper Championships.
Open to Children’s, Adult Amateur, Junior 3’3” and Amateur Owner 3’3” riders who have competed in a Children’s
or Adult Amateur Hunter or Amateur 3’3” Hunter classes at the same show. Round one will be a hunter classic course.
Minimum of 10 to 12 fences with 2 higher options. Round two will be a handy round with 8 to 10 fences with higher
option jumps. Fence heights 3’, option fences 3’3”. Cooler to first place and top eight will ride for ribbons. Please see prize

Open to all riders and horses who have competed in at least two classes at the same competition. Horses, Riders, Owners
and Trainers must be USEF/USHJA members to collect points. Class will be two rounds with open scoring and the
top 10 will return for the second round. No cross entry between the USHJA National Hunter Derby and the USHJA
International Hunter Derby. Fence height will be 3’ with four high option fences set at 3’5”. Prize Money: 1st - $750,
2nd - $550, 3rd - $325, 4th - $200, 5th - $150, 6th - $125, 7th - $100, 8th - $75, 9th- $75, 10th - 12th - $50.

There will be one clear round class (Table A 238.1.1) prior to the Saturday Final tentatively scheduled for Thursday in
the Grand Prix Ring. A $100 credit will be applied to your show bill as long as the Saturday class is shown.Only the final
class of each show will count towards Series points and award prize money. Please present registration papers showing
proof of age and breeding information with entry form to the Competition Office. Horses born after October 1 of the
calendar year are eligible to compete in the age category of the next year. Open to all riders and both EC and USEF/
USHJA horses. The 4 & 5 Year Olds time allowed is 300m per min, 6 & 7 Year Olds time allowed is 350m per min. The
4 Year Olds will be judged in the following manner: 50% on jumping style, way of going and future potential and 50%
on performance. Faults will result in -5 points from performance score, time faults: -1 from performance score. The 7 year
olds will be return jump off, all others immediate unless otherwise posted. Class 437, 438 and 439 will be run according
to Table A Article 238.2.2. Ribbons to eighth place. 4 Year Old and 5 Year Olds will count as Qualifing Classes for
the Young Jumper Championships.

World Cup nominations are due into the Tournament Office prior to the start of the competition. Nominations will

fences which may vary in height between 1.40m and 1.60m. There will be a water jump of 3.50m including take off
element. The spread obstacles will have spread between 1.50m and 2.0m. At least two straight obstacles will be provided
with a minimum height of 1.60m. Riders will receive qualifying points through 16th place. Cooler for first place and

BioSecurity is everyone’s responsibility! Thunderbird Show Park is committed to providing a safe and healthy
environment for all exhibitors and their horses. All show participants are requested to practice good disease prevention
practices. Travelling and showing horses are at an increased risk for contracting and spreading contagious diseases. Paton
and Martin Veterinary Services, 604 856 3351 are the official Thunderbird Show Park veterinarians.All horses entering
the show grounds must not have been in contact with any sick horses within the last 15 days. They must not exhibit any
sign of illness. Any horse that has been sick or exposed to an infectious disease within the last 15 days must have their
attending veterinarian contact the Thunderbird Show Park veterinarian prior to entry to the show grounds. All horses
are required to be verifiably current on Influenza and EHV 1-4 vaccines. (within 6 months). All horses while on the
show grounds are expected to have their temperatures taken and recorded on a daily basis during the show. Please have
temperature records available upon request. We require that any horse with a rectal temperature above 38.5 C (101.8
F) report to the show management and/or the show veterinarian immediately. The show veterinarian will examine any
horses with an elevated temperature or other signs of illness prior to being allowed to show. Failure to comply may result
in your horses being required to enter our quarantine isolation barn or leave the show grounds. Any horse identified to
have or is suspected of a having a contagious disease will be removed to the isolation area. It is advised that all exhibitors
have a contingency plan in the event that a sick horse in their care needs to be removed from the show grounds. We
require that braiders/grooms/riders use the hand sanitizers, provided in the stall areas after handling any horse. Please
avoid any direct or indirect contact between horses, in particular nose to nose contact and use of any common feed/
drinking buckets. The early detection of any contagious disease is the key to prevention of a disease outbreak. Following
these simple requirements will be a major step in the prevention of the spread of disease.We appreciate your cooperation

NEW FOR 2016 : USEF EQUINE VACCINATION RULE
All horses entering the grounds of an Federation-licensed competition must be accompanied by documentation of
Equine Influenza Virus and Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis) vaccinations within six months prior to entering
the stables. Please refer to GR845 for further deatils and information on this new ruling. It is the intent of Thunderbird
Show Park to offer a safe and healthy competition environment for all exhibitors and their horses. If you have any further

RULES & REGULATIONS
All Thunderbird Competitions are conducted under the current
Equine Canada and USEF Rule Books. Membership cards
must be presented at check in or copies sent with entry forms.
All Thunderbird tournaments are Equine Canada, USEF,
WSHJA, BCHJA, Horse Council and OHJA approved.
Add/Drop/Change
Class adds, drops (scratches) and class changes are required
in writing on an official form, or on-line. In order to be
refunded the class fee, scratches are due in the Competition
Office prior to the start of the applicable class. Scratches
submitted after the start of the class will not be eligible
for a refund. Classes cannot be added or scratched once
the class starts. Individual classes may not be added or
scratched from a rated division. All adds/scratches are to
be submitted to the competition office by 5pm the day
prior. Please note, a $20 charge per class will be added for
day of adds as we encourage riders/trainers to add the day
prior at no charge to allow for more accurate scheduling.
Day of adds will be based on schedule availability and
management approval. There is no guarantee that day of
adds will be accepted.
Campers, RV’s and Motor Homes
All RV reservations are to be requested on the entry
forms. Please be advised, RV spots are not to be reserved
until entries are accepted into the competition office.
Site reservations cancelled after the closing date will not
be entitled to a refund unless the site is re-sold. Due to
limited spots, in the event of selling out, priority will
be given to those requesting spots for two weeks. When
applicable, parking passes for RVs and cars will be issued
at the competition office and are required to be visibly
displayed. Only RV units booked and paid for may
park in hook up areas. Pump out service is available on
Wednesdays and Saturdays based on demand; please sign
up at the competition office. There will be a designated
area for non hook up RVs.
Combined Hunter Division
Divisions with less than six entries will be combined. One
championship will be awarded per combined division.
Competition Office
The competition office will be open on show days from
7am to 30 minutes after the last regular class. The office
does not remain open for specialty classes. Regardless of
closing time all adds are due by 5:00pm.
Concussion
If a judge, steward or medic witnesses an injury with signs,
symptoms or behaviors consistent with a sports related
concussion, concussion protocol comes into effect in line
with USEF Rule GR1316 requiring a medical sign off prior
to returning to competition.
Conflicts
With the exception of FEI and World Cup Classes (see
FEI Rules), riders are not limited to how many horses
they may ride per class. If a rider foresees a scheduling
problem they need to consult the Competition Manager
or Technical Coordinator. Management’s decision will be
final. In the event a rider has multiple horses (no more
than 2) remaining at the end of a class, both horses should
be in the vicinity of the ring and the rider will be given 5
minutes to warm up and enter the ring with each horse. If
the horses are not in the warm-up area, the judge will be
instructed to pin the class.
Eliminations
The “2 Refusal Elimination Rule” in all jumper, hunter
and equitation classes is followed at Thunderbird Show
Park. Jumpers will be scored under FEI Table A Article
238.2.2 unless otherwise specified. The competitor has
the right to jump a single obstacle after retiring or after
being eliminated provided that the obstacle is part of the
course of the current competition (this does not apply
to elimination resulting from a fall). Falls will result in
elimination and the rider will not be permitted to remount.

Equine Vaccination Rule
As per USEF GR845 horses must be accompanied by
documentation of Equine Influenza Virus and Equine
Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis) vaccinations issued
within six months prior to entering the showgrounds.
Horses not in compliance with this rule may be required
to leave the competition grounds upon request by
Competition Management.
Farrier & Other Fees
All outside, non-office fees including but not limited
to farrier, veterinary and other vendor fees cannot be
applied to an exhibitor’s accounts or be paid through the
Competition Office.
Feed & Bedding
9, FEI rules, Article 244 Exercise and Schooling Areas
and Practice Obstacles. These rules pertain to all hunter,
equitation, and jumper classes and divisions at all EC
sanctioned competitions. Note exceptions below:
Use of colored sheets over the take off side or under a
properly constructed obstacle is permitted.
Pre bedding is only offered at the first week of each two
week circuit. First bedding consists of 5 bags of premium
shavings. Bedding is placed in all stalls including tack
stalls. The Pre Show Bedding order form is located at the
back of this prize book and online at www.tbird.ca. All
feed and bedding orders are required to be made in writing
or on official forms emailed or faxed. Phone orders cannot
be accepted. Feed and bedding may be ordered through
the Feed and Concierge Office before 1pm for same day
delivery. Orders received after 1pm will be delivered the
following day. Please place your orders in advance.
The use of flags on fences in the schooling areas is at the
discretion of competition management. Steward may
request flags be used when the schooling area is congested.

General Schooling
All Equine Canada sanctioned competitors are required to
use current FEI schooling rules as listed. Refer to Chapter
In Equitation and Hunter and schooling rings, plastic cups
or FEI breakaway cups are used. See Article G116.
Boot and bandage checks are not mandatory; however,
a boot and bandage check may be performed at EC
sanctioned jumper competitions.
Hunter Schooling Only; A ground rail may be used on
both sides of an oxer. Top rails may not be offset.
Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license may not
operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but
not limited to; golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm
utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed
competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license
may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long
as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s
license. The individual who signs an entry as a parent
or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in
violation of this rule is solely responsible for any damages,
claims, losses or actions resulting from the operation.
Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against
the individual who is responsible for the minor. Penalties
may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s),
and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the
remainder of the competition. Wheelchairs and other
mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities
are exempt from this rule.
Grand Prix Order of Go
A computer drawn order will be posted for classes in the
Fort Grand Prix Ring. Orders will also include estimated
times. Orders will be posted each night at the Fort Grand
Prix Ring in-gate and online at showgroundslive.com.
Grand Prix Horses
Horses entered in Grand Prix classes are required to be
stabled on the grounds 24 hrs prior to the start of the class
and may not leave the grounds until the class is completed.
Grand Prix Riders
Unless otherwise specified, formal attire (white breeches,
dress shirt and a formal jacket) is required Friday night,
Saturday and Sunday in the Fort Grand Prix Ring.
Haul In & Non Showing Horses
A fee of $100 per week will apply to all non stabled horses.
A grounds fee of $75 per week will apply to all non showing
horses. All non showing horses and haul-ins are required
to register with the Competition Office. All horses will be
issued a number which is required to be worn at all times.
The above fees will also apply to any horses sharing a stall.
Hors Concours (non judged rides)
Hors Concours rounds will be permitted at management’s
discretion. A horse or pony that has competed hors
concours is not permitted to compete again in the same ring
on the same day. Hors concours rounds are not permitted
to take a jump off round. Hors Concours carry the same fee
as the class in which the Hors Concours took place.
Horse Arrival
Non FEI horses may arrive at anytime during the
competition. For FEI horses, please refer to the FEI Draft
Schedule. Horses arriving for the BC Open, Western
Family and Summer Fort Festival may not arrive until
noon on the Monday of that week.
Lost & Found
Lost and found is located in the concierge office. Items not
claimed within two weeks of the end of the competition
will be donated to charity.
Lunging
Designated areas are available for lunging. Lunging in
schooling rings is permitted up to one hour prior to the
start of competition. Lunging is not permitted in any of
the show rings or on the berms between and surrounding
all rings.
Management
Management reserves the right to interpret all questions
and conditions regarding or arising out of the show without
claims, damages or recourse of any kind. For all questions
not covered in these rules, horse show management shall
decide regulations, and management’s decision is final.
The horse show management reserves the right to refuse,
accept conditionally or to cancel any entries, disqualify
riders or exhibitors, prohibit claim damages, change any
course, cancel or combine any unfilled classes, reschedule
classes (after due notice to exhibitors), change rings
or rotate judges, and to change specifications in jumper
classes at any time. Thunderbird reserves the right to use
all photos and videos taken at all Show Park events.
Memberships
All competitors, owners and riders are required to have an
individual gold sport license or higher with Equine Canada
and Horse Council of BC or be a bona fide member of their
own National Equestrian Federation.
Measurement
Horse and pony exhibitors possessing official measurement
cards are to have these available for the Competition
Office. Horses and ponies requiring but without official
cards need to be available for measuring at a designated
time and place, announced & posted at the Competition
Office.
Nomination Fees
Each ring carries a nomination fee. In the case of an entry
competing in multiple rings only the higher nomination
fee will apply. Please indicate ring nomination in the
appropriate space on your entry form. Ring nomination
fees at Thunderbird Show Park include all of your add /
scratch / class nomination / division nomination fees. We
run a policy of “No Play, No Pay”, so as long as your horse
has a scratch form at the competition office prior to the
start of the class, full fees are refunded without any penalty.

Numbers
All horses (stabled, non-stabled, showing and nonshowing) will be assigned a number and are required
to wear the number at all times while on the grounds.
Equitation riders not riding their own horses need to sign
the entry form of the horse they are riding and use that
horse’s number. Numbers will not be released without a
trainer’s signature and credit card number or signed barn
cheque on file in the competition office. There will be
a $500 fine for the misrepresentation of any horse; this
includes but is not limited to showing multiple horses
under the same number.
Paddocks
A limited number of grass paddocks are available for $275
+ tax per week. Paddocks are of metal construction and are
separated by walkways from surrounding paddocks. Each
paddock has its own gate and exhibitors are encouraged to
bring locks to secure their paddocks when not in use.
Parking
Proper decals are required to park in designated
handicapped and reserved parking spots. Improperly
parked vehicles will be towed and charged a $100 donation
to JustWorld International. Due to a limited number of
parking spots, complimentary parking passes will be given
to Trainers and Sponsors only.
Passports
Under Article A411 no Canadian exhibitor may enter a
horse or pony in an EC sanctioned gold-level competition
without a valid EC or FEI passport, or a national passport
approved by the FEI, at competitions requiring a passport.
If a passport is not presented, then a temporary horse
registration is required at each show. American exhibitors
are required to fill out affidavits (available at the
competition office). We ask that passports be picked up
prior to Sunday.
Payment
Full payment of show bill is due upon completion of horse
show. NSF cheques and declined credit cards will be
subject to a $50.00 fee.
Pets
Tbird is dog friendly! All pets are required to be kept on
a leash while on Thunderbird Property. Owners whose
pets are found off leash will be subject to a fine which
will be donated to the George and Dianne Tidball Legacy
Foundation. We also ask that you kindly clean up after
your pet. Disposal bags are conveniently located around
the Thunderbird Show Park.
Post Entries
Post entries will be accepted based on availability. Entries
submitted after the closing date will be subject to a $50
late fee. Entries submitted on or after Monday of the show
week are subject to a $100 fee.
Prize Money
Classes with prize money of $25,000 and over will be held
at the National standard. All prize money will be paid in
Canadian funds. Unless requested, prize monies will be
applied against outstanding show balances with residual
issued to the horse owner within 30 days of the completion
of each competition.
Scheduling
Show management reserves the right to make class and
schedule changes at any time.
Sharps
Sharps containers are located on the grounds. Please note
that improper disposal of needles or other sharp disposable
instruments may be subject to a fine of up to $100.
Show Deposits
All show deposits will be taken at time of entering. Show
deposits are non-refundable after the closing date unless a
substitution is organized. A $50 charge will be applied for
all Substitutions.
Show Scratch
The Competition Office must be notified of all scratches
in writing by mail, courier, fax or e-mail. Phone messages
will not be accepted. For show scratches made before the
show closing date, a full refund will apply. After horse has
been checked in there will be no refunds of the following;
stalls, nomination fees, exhibitor fees, feed, bedding, RV
reservations, paddocks, or any completed classes.
Stabling/Tack Stalls
Stall doors are provided by Thunderbird Show Park.
Exhibitors may purchase up to two tack rooms for the first
four horses entered, and one tack room for each four horses
thereafter. This rule will be followed during sold out shows
under the discretion of the organizing committee.
Ties
In the case of a tie, any prize money will be added together
and divided equally.
US – Recording USHJA
Jumpers need to be recorded with USEF in order to receive
points towards any USEF or USHJA Zone or Horse of the
Year awards. Any change of a recorded horse’s name and/or
ownership need to be recorded with USEF in accordance
with GR1105 and GR1107.
Division Championships
Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded in
Hunter and Jumper divisions. High Point and Reserve
High Point will be awarded in Equitation divisions.
Conformation classes will receive 1.2 points towards the
division championship. Points: EC Divisions: 1st – 7
points; 2nd – 5 points; 3rd – 4 points; 4th – 3 points; 5th
– 2 points; 6th – 1 point. USEF Divisions: 1st – 10 points;
2nd – 6 points; 3rd – 4 points; 4th – 2 points; 5th – 1
point; 6th - .5 point.

EQUINE CANADA
Sport & Horse Licenses
As per the Equine Canada Competition Administration
Document (CAP), competitions sanctioned by Equine
Canada are required to ensure that all competitors and
owners possess the requisite sport license and horse license
documentation. The owner of the horse needs to be exactly
the same as listed with Equine Canada. Please be sure that
your Equine Canada Sport License level corresponds with
the competition you are entering. A “GOLD” level sport
license will allow you to compete in all Equine Canadagoverned competitions at Thunderbird Show Park. A
Platinum level sport license allows you to compete in all
Equine Canada and FEI governed competitions. For more
details, please see the Equine Canada website.
Age – Junior Riders
Juniors are riders who have not reached their 18th birthday
as of January 1st of the current year. Juniors ages are required
to be stated on the entry form, and birth certificates are to
be available on request. US Riders qualify as juniors with
USEF through December 1st of the year they turn 18 years
of age. EC Rules state: The age of a rider on January 1 will
be maintained throughout the competition year which
runs from Jan 1 to Dec 31; Junior A: a rider who is 15, 16
or 17 on January 1; Junior B: a rider who is 12, 13 or 14 on
January 1; Junior C: a rider who is 12 on January 1
Amateur Eligability
(Artical 108) Any person who has ridden on a Senior
National Eventing or Jumping Team is not eligable to
compete in the amateur divison for a period of two years
from the date of the last competition at which the athlete
rode for the team. Athletes who are on the Jumping
Short List for the Canadian Team for the current year are
excluded from amateur classes for that year.
Passports
(Article A411) No Canadian exhibitor may enter a horse
or pony without a valid EC or FEI passport, or a national
passport approved by the FEI, at competitions requiring
a passport. If a passport is not presented, a temporary
horse registration needs to be purchased at each show for
$45. Exhibitors failing to produce passports for reasons
other than those listed (under Article A411.2) or failing
to produce written notification from EC as per Article
A411.2 shall not be allowed to compete. Note: No points
will be tabulated on a temporary passport.
Drug Fees
All competitors will be assessed an EC fee of $7 per horse
for drug fees and $3 per horse USEF Competition Fee.
Jump Canada Levy
Gold and Platinum Equine Canada hunter/jumper
competitions will remit a $20 per horse fee to the Jump
Canada Board. This amount, which will be collected from
each competitor at the time of entry, will be used to support
a number of regional and national programs designed to
foster the activities of hunter/jumper riders, owners and
the industry at large.
BCHJA Levy
All competitors will be assessed a fee of $5 per horse for the
British Columbia Hunter/Jumper Association.
Drug Inspection
All competitors and horses are subject to drug testing and
agree that by making their entry, they will allow themselves
and their horses to be drug tested.
Schooling
Offset oxers and rapping of horses are not allowed at any
time. Violators will be disqualified from the competition,
with starting fees and prize monies forfeited. FEI Article
243 for jumping events will apply for FEI events.
Juniors & Stallions
(Article G105) Junior “B” and “C” riders must not
ride or handle stallions anywhere on the competition
grounds. Junior “A” riders may ride manageable stallions
in jumper classes only. Manageable stallions ridden by
seniors are eligible for all senior classes. Decisions as to the
manageability of stallions are at the discretion of the judge
or steward. Unmanageable stallions must be excused from
the ring and/or warm-up areas.
Hard Hat Rule
Primary, Provincial, National Equine Canada, USEF and
FEI sanctioned competitions require protective headgear.
ASTM/SEI or BSI approved headgear is required to be
worn by all riders competing in the EC Bronze, Silver
and Gold competitions. This rule applies whenever the
rider is mounted on the competition grounds. ASTM/
SEI or BSI approved headgear is required to be worn by
all non-competing riders mounted on any competing horse
at EC Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum competitions.
All riders of any age while on non-competing horses
are required to wear protective headgear at all times
while mounted on the competition grounds. Approved
headgear need to meet the ASTM (American Society for
testing Materials) standards and display the SEI (Safety
Equipment Institution) seal. The British standard (BSI) is
also acceptable. Any rider violating this rule at any time
will be immediately prohibited from further riding until
such headgear is properly in place.
EC Statement of Principle
Equine Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of
Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses
in all activities under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to:
Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as
a primary consideration in all activities;
Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect
and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never
be subjected to mistreatment;
Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their
agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and
transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in
their care for any purpose;
Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by
encouraging routine inspection and consultation with
health care professionals and competition officials to
achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health,
comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating
procedure;
Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health
and welfare;
Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and
follow their sanctioning organization’s tiles, and to work
within industry regulations in all equestrian competition;
Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and
regulations that protect the welfare of the horses.
The standard by which conduct or treatment will be
measured is that which a person, informed and experienced
in generally accepted equine training and exhibition
procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive,
nor inhumane.
EC Entry Agreement
By signing the entry form you agree to the following
statement:
“I hereby certify that every horse, rider and/or driver
is eligible as entered and agree for myself and my
representatives to be bound by the Constitution and
Rules of Equine Canada at this competition. It is hereby
recognized that all equestrian sports involve inherent
risk and that no helmet or protective equipment can
protect against all foreseeable injury. I hereby accept this
risk and hold harmless Equine Canada, the competition,
their officials, organizers, agent employees and their
representatives.” (A1011)
In the event that an exhibitor participates in an Equine
Canada sanctioned competition where approved headgear
is required for juniors, he/she will wear a properly fitted,
ASTM or BSI/BS EN approved helmet. It is understood
that competitors not meeting this requirement will not be
allowed to compete at these competitions.
FEDERATION EQUESTRE INTERNATIONALE
All competitions will be conducted in accordance with
FEI Statutes, 23rd Edition, effective January, 2009; FEI
General Regulations, 23rd Edition, effective January, 2009,
updated 1 January, 2014; FEI Veterinary Regulations, 12th
Edition, 5 April, 2010; FEI Rules for Jumping Events and its
Annexes (23rd Edition, effective 1 January, 2009, updated
1 January, 2014), and Riles for the FEI World Cup Jumping
Events; FEI Anti-Doping Riles for Human Athletes, 2nd
Edition effective 1 January, 2009; and all subsequent
revisions to the above Rules and Regulations which will
take precedence. And arbitration procedure is provided
for under the FEI Statutes and General Regulations as
referred above. In accordance with this procedure, any
appeal against a decision rendered by the FEI or its official
bodies is required to be settled exclusively by the Court
of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Protests shall be handled according to Articles 167-169 of
General Regulations. A deposit of 150 CHF is required.
Competitors are responsible to the Ground Jury on
entering the competition ring.
National Federation Membership
To enter an FEI class, all Competitors and Owners need to
have a valid individual sport license with Equine Canada
and their provincial federation or be bona fide members
of their own National Equestrian Federation affiliated
with the FEI. Rider and owner membership numbers
need to be submitted with entries. Please be sure that
you Equine Canada sport license level corresponds with
the tournament you are entering. A ‘Platinum’ level
sport license is required to compete in all FEI divisions at
Thunderbird Show Park. For more details, please see the
Equine Canada website.
FEI Fees for Horses & Riders
As approved at the 2006 General Assembly, and annual
FEI registration is now mandatory for all riders and horses
competing in FEI events. The fee requirement took effect
January 1, 2006, and it is renewed annually. Fees are $20
for each horse and $20 per rider. All horses and riders need
to be registered with the FEI before competing in any
competition. The FEI horse and rider registration form
will be mailed to all 2014 Grand Prix and Talent Squad
competitors. For Canadians, the registration form will
also be available on the Jump Canada website under the
“Rider/Owner Info” button located on the home page.
Organizing Committee Decisions
It is important to understand that interpretations of existing
rules and regulations and the invoking of additional rules
and regulations to cover unforeseen circumstances are
the sole responsibility and authority of the organizing
committee, in conjunction with, and with the approval
of, the Ground Jury and that all owners, trainers, chefs,
competitors and grooms agree to the acceptance of these
interpretations and additional rulings by virtue of your
participation.
FEI World Cup Qualifying Class CSI-W
The FEI World Cup qualifying competitions will meet the
following specifications: consist of at least 12 obstacles
which may vary in height between 1.40m and 1.60m.
There will be a water jump of 3.50m including the take-off
element. The spread obstacles will have spreads of between
1.50m to 2.00m (2.20m for the triple bar). At least two
straight obstacles need to be provided with a minimum
height of 1.60m. Riders will receive qualifying point
through 16th place. An Athlete may ride more than one
Horse in the FEI World CupTM Competitions. In such
case, the Horse going for FEI World CupTM points has to
be declared before the start of the Competition, and the
Athlete must ride this Horse first. Once the Competition
has begun, an Athlete may not change his World Cup
Horse. However, prior to the beginning of the Competition
an Athlete may change his FEI World CupTM Horse
only if his originally declared FEI World CupTM Horse is
scratched from the Competition and the newly declared
FEI World CupTM Horse competes in the same position
in the starting order as his originally declared FEI World
CupTM Horse. If more than 100 starters are declared, the
competition must be divided, with the FEI World CupTM
Horses in the same group, and the equivalent amount of
prize money provided for the additional competition.
Passports & Veterinary Inspection
Every horse entered for any competition at CSN or CSI*/2*
in a foreign country, and all horses entered for other CSI
3*/4*/5*, CSIOs, Championships, Regional and Olympic
Games whether at home or in foreign countries, need to
have an official, valid FEI Passport, or a National Passport
approved by the FEI accompanied by an FEI recognition
Card, as a means of identification and to establish
ownership. Horses taking part in CSNs and CSIs in their
own country are not required to have such a passport. All
such horses need to be properly registered and identifiable
by diagram. The veterinary inspection of the horse, the
‘jog’ is to be done in a professional manner and all riders,
grooms, owners etc. taking part in this part shall be dressed
properly for the occasion. National Division – Equine
Canada horse passports are a mandatory document for
all Canadian horses and ponies. Foreign owned horses
should have a passport issued by either their own National
Federation or the FEI, or provide written certification
of eligibility at the Tournament Office upon arrival.
Canadian passports are available from the National or
Provincial offices of Equine Canada. By signing the entry
form, competitors or their agents are testifying that the
entry is eligible for the competitions entered. Subsequent
determination that such is not the case will result in
elimination. Passports or certificates of eligibility need to
be turned in to the Tournament Office before the horse
will be permitted to compete.
Equine Influenza Protocol
All horses participating in FEI events must be vaccinated
against Equine Influenza, according to the following
minimum protocol (FEI Veterinary Regulations Article
1028):
1. An initial Primary Course of two vaccinations must
be given; the second vaccination must be administered
within 21-92 days of the first vaccination.
2. The first booster must be given within 7 calendar
months following the date of administration of the second
vaccination of the primary course. All horses that were
certified as correctly receiving the primary course prior to 1
January 2005 (under previous regulations), are not required
to fulfil the requirement for the first booster, providing
there has been no lapse in their vaccination regime.
3. The minimum booster frequency is every 12 mo11ths.
However for horses competing, the last booster must have
been given within the 6 months + 21 days (and not within
7 days) before the arrival at the Event. 4. The horse must
have received at least the Primary Course of vaccinations
against equine influenza . 5. No vaccination shall be given
within 7 days of the Horse’s arrival at the Event.
Acceptance of International Entries
The Tournaments are open to all International
competitors, but the Organizing Committee reserves the
right to refuse any entry if not automatically qualified and
if not a member of a foreign or home team at the CSIO.
Facility and scheduling constraints may make it necessary
to limit the overall number of competitors/horses or
even the number of competitors/horses within a section.
The organizing committee reserves the right to select
competitors in these situations using criteria such as past
attendance and past performance, amoung other criteria.
Those not selected will have all fees refunded.
FEI Medication Control
All horses are subject to drug testing and all competitors
agree that by making their entry they will allow their
horses to be so tested. For equine testing, a fee of $45 per
horse per event will be charged as a contribution towards
the costs of the FEI Medication Control Programme in
accordance with the MCP programme.
Human Doping Control
All competitors are subject to drug testing and agree
that by making their entry they will allow themselves
to be tested. The testing program will be carried out by
the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in accordance
with the agreements between the FEI and WADA, and
the FEI General Rules & Regulations. Random urine
tests of competitors will be taken to determine the use of
illegal substances. Please refer to the “Prohibited Classes of
Substances and Prohibited Method” as agreed by the FEI. At
Thunderbird Show Park all drugs deemed to be prohibited
under FEI rules will not be tolerated. People or horses
being removed from Drug Supervision may be disqualified
at the discretion of the Ground Jury’s recommendation
to the Organizing Committee. These regulations will be
vigorously enforced, including the inspection of personal
property. Situations where riders or others connected with
the riders are found on the competition grounds to be
suspected of criminal activities or in possession of illegal
substances, as defined by the criminal code of Canada, will
be reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
FEI Longines World Cup Fee
Entry fee for Longines World Cup Qualifier will be included
in the mandatory FEI Longines World Cup Fee. This fee
will include stall charge, nomination fee, entry fee for class
440, and all administration and drug fees. This fee does not
include feed, bedding, other class entry fees or additional
charges such as parking/VIP.
FEI Warm-Up Area Rules
The use of fence material other than that provided by
the Organizing Committee is forbidden under penalty
of disqualification (Article 241.2.7) and the fences
provided may be jumped only in the direction for which
they are flagged. No part of the practice obstacles may
be held by anyone. The obstacles in the warm-up ring
may not exceed 1.80m in width and 1.60m in height.
Unauthorized schooling may, at the discretion of the
Ground Jury, result in forfeiture of tournament fees paid
and prize money won for all entries of the owner, trainer,
competitor, grooms and group involved. Acceptance in
future tournaments will be determined by the organizing
committee. In the interest of fair play, once horses are
in the warm-up area for a given competition they are
forbidden to leave and return for the competition.
FEI Helmet Rule
FEI General Regulations Article 140 - Protection of
Athletes 1. While riding on the show grounds the use of a
properly fastened Protective Headgear will be mandatory.
In the Competition arena venue and adjacent warm-up
areas, as well as riding from one to the other and from
the stables for the purposes of competing, the Protective
Headgear requirements are governed by the applicable
Sport Rules. Protective Headgear is always mandatory for
Show Jumping.Failure to wear such Protective Headgear
where and when required after being notified to do so by
an Official, shall result in a Yellow Warning Card, being
issued to the Athlete unless exceptional circumstances
apply. The use of cameras on athletes or equipment (such
as on Protective Headgear, head covering or carriage)
shall not be permitted, unless otherwise specifically
agreed by the FEI. An athlete’s decision to wear a camera
while competing shall always be voluntary and at the
Athlete’s own risk
Ties
All ties in jumper competitions will be broken on
the basis of time in accordance with FEI Rules. Upon
consultation and agreement with the Ground Jury and
Organizing Committee, ties will be broken in any jumpoff on the basis of time to 1000th of a second.
Order of Go
The Order of Go will be drawn for each of the Grand Prix
competitions according to Article 252.7 of the rules for
Jumping Events. Special or unforeseen circumstances will
be dealt with by the Organizing Committee & Ground
Jury on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to Article
245.5 regarding two horses in a jump-off. If a rider has
two horses in a jump-off, the rider will have the option
of moving up in the order or be prepared to go back
into the ring without a warm-up for the second horse.
Competitions are responsible for having all entries in
the warm-up ring fifteen minutes before each respective
competition. Any competitor not ready to enter the
competition ring when called will be eliminated. Fees will
not be refunded in the case of missed competitions.
FEI Code of Conduct
The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) requires
all those involved in international equestrian sport to
adhere to the FEI’s Code of Conduct and to acknowledge
and accept that at all times the welfare of the horse
needs to be paramount and never be subordinate to
competitive or commercial influences; At all stages
during the preparation and training of competition
horses, welfare needs to take precedence over all other
demands. This includes good horse management, training
methods, farrier and tack, and transportation; Horses and
competitors needs to be fit, competent and in good health
before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses
medication use, surgical procedures that threaten welfare
or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids;
Events are required to not prejudice horse welfare. This
involves paying careful attention to the competition
areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site
safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the
event; Every effort needs to be made to ensure that horses
receive proper attention after they have competed and
that they are treated humanely when their competition
careers are over. This covers proper veterinary care,
competition injuries, euthanasia and retirement; The FEI
urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest
levels of education in their areas of expertise.
USEF ENTRY AGREEMENT & MEMBERSHIP STATEMENT
By entering a Federation-licensed Competition and signing
this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager,
Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider, Handler, Vaulter or Longeur
and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives,
employees and agents, I agree that I am subject to the
Bylaws and Rules of The United States Equestrian
Federation, Inc. (the “Federation”) and the local rules of
Thunderbird Show Park. I agree to be bound by the Bylaws
and Rules of the Federation and of the competition. I will
accept as final the decision of the Hearing Committee on
any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release
and hold harmless the competition, the Federation, their
officials, directors and employees for any action taken under
the Rules. I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or
participate under the Rules, and every horse I am entering
is eligible as entered. I also agree that as a condition of and
in consideration of acceptance of entry, the Federation and/
or the Competition may use or assign photographs, videos,
audios, cable - casts, broadcasts, internet, film, new media
or other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the
course of the competition for the promotion, coverage or
benefit of the competition, sport, or the Federation. Those
likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and they
may not be used in such a way as to jeopardize amateur
status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive and release
any rights in connection with such use, including any claim
to compensation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or
to misappropriation. The construction and application of
Federation rules are governed by the laws of the State of
New York, and any action instituted against the Federation
must be filed in New York State. See GR908.4.Federation
Release, Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Indemnification
This document waives important legal rights. Read it
carefully before signing. I AGREE in consideration for
my participation in this Competition to the following:
I AGREE that the “Federation” and “Competition”
as used herein includes the Licensee and Competition
Management, as well as all of their officials, officers,
directors, employees, agents, personnel, volunteers and
Federation affiliates. I AGREE that I choose to participate
voluntarily in the Competition with my horse, as a rider,
driver, handler, vaulter, longeur, lessee, owner, agent,
coach, trainer, or as parent or guardian of a junior exhibitor.
I am fully aware and acknowledge that horse sports and the
Competition involve inherent dangerous risks of accident,
loss, and serious bodily injury including broken bones,
head injuries, trauma, pain, suffering, or death. (“Harm”).
I AGREE to hold harmless and release the Federation and
the Competition from all claims for money damages or
otherwise for any Harm to me or my horse and for any
Harm of any nature caused by me or my horse to others,
even if the Harm arises or results, directly or indirectly,
from the negligence of the Federation or the Competition.
I AGREE to expressly assume all risks of Harm to me or my
horse, including Harm resulting from the negligence of the
Federation or the Competition. I AGREE to indemnify
(that is, to pay any losses, damages, or costs incurred by)
the Federation and the Competition and to hold them
harmless with respect to claims for Harm to me or my horse,
and for claims made by others for any Harm caused by me
or my horse while at the Competition. I have read the
Federation Rules about protective equipment, including
GR801 and, if applicable, EV114, and I understand that
I am entitled to wear protective equipment without
penalty, and I acknowledge that the Federation strongly en
courages me to do so while WARNING that no protective
equipment can guard against all injuries. If I am a parent
or guardian of a junior exhibitor, I consent to the child’s
participation and AGREE to all of the above provisions
and AGREE to assume all of the obligations of this
Release on the child’s behalf I represent that I have the
requisite training, coaching and abilities to safely compete
in this competition. I AGREE that if I am injured at this
competition, the medical personnel treating my injuries
may provide information on my injury and treatment to
the Federation on the official USEF accident/injury report
form.
Life, senior active and junior active members shall be
eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions,
Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above
and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced
Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and
Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a
handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer
at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage
Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined
Driving Competitions upon payment of a $30 Show Pass
fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from
the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions;
3) games and races; 4) classes for 4--H members; 5) walk
trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes
limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6)
USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille
classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8)
Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have
proof, in English, of current membership in good standing
of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner
novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage
Sport Horse Breeding classes.
We ask that you please be sure you are dressed according
to the protocol for the class you are entered in.
Formal Attire
Dark, muted or similar colored, or red (scarlet)
coats; white or fawn breeches, a white tie, choker
(unless the shirt, by design, has the choker built in
for its intended use) or hunting stock, and a white or
lightly colored shirt. Shirts must have a white collar
and white cuffs. Shirts must be fastened at the neck
and tucked in. Boots are required. Half chaps are
permitted as long as the color matches the paddock
boots being worn. Members of the Armed Services or
the police may wear the service dress uniform with
protective headgear. Classes requiring Formal Attire
are any Grand Prix or special class offering $10,000
or more. Riders will be notified by management
where exceptions to formal attire are permitted due
to Thunderbird Sponsor relations.
Proper Jumper Attire
Coats of any color are required. Breeches must be a
light color (white or fawn). Pastel and dark colored
breeches are not allowed. Shirts, light in color, must
be tucked in and fastened at the top of the neck.
Ties or chokers of any color must be worn (unless
the shirt, by design, has the choker built in for its
intended use). Boots are required. Half chaps are
permitted as long as the color matches the paddock
boots being worn. Classes requiring proper attire are
any classes in the Fort Grand Prix Ring where formal
is not required and also any classic.
Standard Jumper Attire
Coats are not required. Breeches of any color are
permitted. Shirts (polo shirts are permitted) with
collars and sleeves (sleeves may be either long or
short), tucked into the breeches. Sleeveless shirts
and shirts with exposed hoods are not permitted.
Boots are required. Half chaps are permitted as
long as the color matches the paddock boots
being worn. All other classes will require standard
attire. In extreme weather conditions the use of
jackets, sweaters or raincoats may be approved at
management’s discretion.
FEI Information
Exhibitors who wish to compete in FEI classes during
the 2015 season are asked to enter Jog Class #900
each week before Monday at 5pm.
Declarations for each week are due into the show
office the day before the event by 5pm.
Please check in with the competition office for the
location of your FEI stabling. Horses are required
to proceed directly to the secure FEI stabling after
completion of the jog.
The FEI jog will take place in the FEI Warm up area.
The date and time will be posted in competition
office and at the Ingate of the Fort Grand Prix Ring
each week.
There will be a posted order of go for the Jog Class.
If you have special instructions please leave the
details with the competition office. The order of go
can be found on the tbird Facebook page, at www.
tbird.ca and www.showgroundslive.com/tbird.
Upon completion of the jog you will be provided
with access passes to the FEI stabling area.
Once entered into the FEI competition you will
also receive back numbers that are a different color.
Please use the FEI back numbers at all times when
leaving the secured stabling area.
The secured stabling will be open from 6:30am to
7:00pm daily.

BORDER INFORMATION
Bringing your horses to Canada? Here are some useful tips for a successful crossing at the border. Horses
or other equines may be imported temporarily into Canada from the United States free of taxes as long as
that horse will not remain in Canada. Please be prepared to provide documentation to show that your horse
will only be in Canada for a short time. Information such as show catalogues and entry forms will be useful
back up documentation. Horses are required have a current international health certificate (valid for 30
days) and a current Equine Anemia (Coggins) test (valid for six months) for each horse entering Canada.
Both Canada and the US have regulations governing the movement of horses across the shared border.
These regulations may be subject to change in the event of disease outbreaks or other international events.
Successfully crossing the borders with horses requires planning well in advance of your trip to allow time
for all necessary tests and paperwork to be completed. Please contact your veterinarian well ahead of time
to arrange for them to help with all the required paper work. Your vet will provide all the necessary forms
that will be needed when crossing the border including a negative EIA (Equine Infectious Anemia) test
within 180 days of entry signed off by your vet and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) or USDA
veterinarian. A Veterinary Health Certificate is also required, stating that the horse has been examined
within 30 days of entering the country and is free of contagious diseases. This document will be completed
and signed by your veterinarian and the CFIA or USDA veterinarian. A US Health Certificates form VS17
– 145 is used for individual horses and VS17 – 140 for multiple horses whether permanent for temporary
entry is being made into Canada. No veterinary inspection is required at the border for horses entering
Canada or the US provided the horse returns within 30 days of the date of entry into either the US or
Canada on a temporary basis. We recommend using the 176th/Pacific Border Crossing which is open 24hrs.

may split your feed and bedding charges amoung your customers after arrival. Feed orders are due by Noon
on the Friday of each tournament. All splits must be done by 2pm on the Friday of each tournament. Please
advise your customers that these charges will be added to their horse’s bill and that they should not check
out until after you have completed your splits.
