최근 국제사회에서는 해양활동의 글로벌화로 인하여 국제 해양분쟁이 빈번하게 발생
하고 있으며 우리나라 역시, 주변 연안국들과 해양지명, 자원개발, 환경보전과 같은 문제에
있어 갈등을 겪고 있습니다.
이에 한국해양연구원은 해양관련 국제적 현안문제들에 대한 방안을 모색하고 이에 대한
중장기적인 전략을 수립, 실천하고자 해양법 및 정책에 관련 국제석학들을 모시고 미국
버클리대학교 해양법연구소와 공동으로 제7차 해양법연차대회를 개최하게 되었습니다.

특히, 유엔해양법협약이 1982년에 채택되어 30년을 맞이한 시점에서 본 대회를 개최
하게 되어 큰 의미가 있다하겠습니다. 부디 참석하시어 고견을 나눠주시기 바랍니다.

Invitation
In recent years, international maritime disputes and conflicts have been increasing due to
globalized marine activities and such trend is also affecting marine activities carried out by
Korea including designation of marine geographical names, development of marine
resources, and conservation of marine eco-environment. To address and tackle such issues,
the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI), Korea and the Law of the
Sea Institute (LOSI), School of Law, University of California, Berkeley, USA are jointly hosting
the 7th international conference on the Law of the Sea. We hope that such forum would
provide a good opportunity to discuss ocean-related issues and exchange views from
different perspectives. KORDI is very honored to host this conference at this time in Korea,
celebrating the 30 years of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and opening of
Yeosu Expo 2012. On behalf of KORDI, I cordially invite you to this timely and exciting
conference on the Law of the Sea.
