BIG SWING and SLIDE
GRASKOP
Swing – 45 Minutes / Slide – 20 Minutes
Experience the adrenalin rush with a 68m free-fall at
180km/hour in under 3 seconds on one of the world's
highest Cable Gorge Swings! Or fly across a
panoramic gorge on a 130m high and 135m long
High-wire ("foefie slide").
Tandem swings (max. combined weight of 200kg)
are also available. Highly trained, professional
instructors and impeccable safety record. Optional,
professionally made DVD of your experience (in
case they don't believe you!).
There are 4 dynamic ropes each consisting of a 25
ton breaking strain and they stretch 23% of the jump.
These ropes and all other equipment are inspected
on a daily basis.
After the jump, 442 stairs ascending through the
gorge and into the trees will take you back up to the
top. Enjoy the stunning and unusual plants and bird
life, as well as a few old car wrecks. To compliment
the Swing, THE EDGE BAR - a multi-tiered deck on
the opposite side of the gorge - allows you to sit
back and enjoy a drink while watching the jumpers!

A number of dams is a haven for powerboat and sailing enthusiasts with their own
boats. These dams are also popular fishing venues for carp, bream, bass and

Home of the Forest Sailing Club. No petrol driven
crafts, except residents of the Da Gama Country
estate and limited to less than 5hp. Electric trolling
motors allowed. Ablution facilities available. Off the
R40 road, between Hazyview and White River.

No restriction on size of motorized crafts. Braai and

A number of dams is a haven for powerboat and sailing enthusiasts with their own
boats. These dams are also popular fishing venues for carp, bream, bass and
barbel.
OHRIGSTAD DAM
Canoeing, rowing and angling from powerboats are
permitted on the dam. A picnic site with braai and
ablution facilities is available. An entrance fee is
charged. The dam is situated off the R533, between
Pilgrim's Rest and the R36 road.

Experience the thrill of Mpumalanga’s longest Aerial
Cable Trail!
Enjoy the freedom of gliding over one of the last
remaining natural forested valleys along the Sabie
River. The aerial cable trail takes you down into the
valley basin, stopping along the way on a number of
elevated platforms to admire the natural vegetation,
bird life and the views of the forest floor below.
Each section of the trail varies in length from 70 to
230 meters linking a total of 10 platforms, making the
total length of the trail 1.2km. The trail has been
designed and built to South African civil engineering
standards and all the equipment has been designed
specifically for this activity and tried and tested
worldwide. All groups are escorted by qualified
guides.
This is a non-strenuous adventure activity, suitable
for the whole family and people of all ages. Children
under the age of 10 may need to be assisted.

The residents of the traditional villages of Shangana invite
guests to share in the way of life of the Shangana people. The

FLY-FISHING - SABIE
The Sabie river, and all its tributaries above the
Sabie waterfall, is declared trout waters. The Sabie
Trout Angling Club stock 7km of the river with
rainbow and brown trout to supplement the natural
breeding population of trout in the river.
Non club members need to purchase daily rod
permits, obtainable from a number of businesses in
town. Fly-fishers also have to be in possession of a
provincial trout angling license. Strictly fly-fishing
tackle and artificial flies only. Catch-and-release is
encouraged.

This section of the Sabie river is arguably the
best river fly-fishing venue for trout on public waters
north of the Tugela river !
OTHER FISHING VENUES
Excellent fishing venues for Bass, Carp, Barbel, & Bream include the
Da Gama, Klipkoppie, Longmere, Ohrigstad, Primkop and Witklip dams
- all of which are but a short drive from Sabie. Anglers require a
Provincial Angling License, as well as written land owner permission
(permits, gate fees, etc.) when entering private property.

Pilgrims Rest is a living museum - the entire town has been declared a
national Monument - taking the visitors to the day of old Transvaal Gold Rush.
Pilgrim's Rest was declared a gold field in 1873, soon after digger Alec
"Wheelbarrow" Patterson had found gold deposits in Pilgrim's Creek. The
Valley proved to be rich in gold and by the end of the year, there where about
1500 diggers working in the area.

Balloon flights takes place over the Sabie River Valley. Tea,
coffee and biscuits are served to passengers on arrival at

It is a fun, healthy and technical exercise involving strategy,
stealth and quick thinking. The Paint Ball Course has natural
obstacles like trees, a river, and also man made obstacle
like a fort, trenches and a barbed wire border gate. It also
has a spectator area that is fenced off with see-through
netlon so spectators can be part of the action.
Protective clothing (overalls), masks, guns, and bullets
supplied. A marshal will facilitate the game and also what
type of game will be played. Minimum of four people per
game.
For small children there is a paint ball target shooting range.

Facts about Paint-ball
The game of paint-ball was first played in 1981. The idea for the game was conceived, after 3
Americans saw an advertisement for a paint gun, used to blast paint pellets at cattle for marking
purposes.
The paint, used for the paint balls, is soluble in water, so that it washes easily out of players'
clothes. It is non-toxic as well, in case a player is hit in the mouth and accidentally swallows the
paint. The basic materials for the paint are mineral oils, food coloring, calcium, ethylene glycol,
and iodine.
The paint is encapsulated in a bubble sphere made from gelatin.

RIVER RAFTING, TUBING/GECKOING
The Sabie River is one of the few unpolluted rivers left in South Africa and around the town of
Sabie the river is also bilharzia free. Access to the river is free of charge and inner tubes can be
rented in town. A popular run is from Ceylon bridge (where the road to Bridal Veil Falls crosses
the Sabie River) down to Castle Rock Caravan Park.
You can leisurely float down the Sabie river on an inner tube or sign up for a river rafting
experience with experienced white water river guides.

Upper Sabie River Geckoing
This is the best way to raft down the Sabie River! A Gecko is a oneman inflatable, solid floor raft-tube with handles. You can sit, lie and
even stand on a Gecko! It is faster, safer and more capable than any
other tube. There are no hippos or crocodiles here. Bring shoes,
sunscreen, towels and a set of dry clothes. Gecko, safety helmets and
floatation jackets supplied.

Lower Sabie River Geckoing
On this adventure you will get the chance to navigate class 2 rapids,
jump off an 8m waterfall and explore the Sabie River Gorge in a way
that is only possible in a Gecko. Guides are APA qualified and well
experienced. You will be supplied with a gecko, safety helmet, and
floatation jacket. A 4x4 vehicle will transport you to the river (15
minutes drive).
Lower Sabie River Rafting
White Water rafting in two man inflatables (Crocks), over Grade 2 & 3
Rapids. Qualified guides, equipment, snacks and transport from the
Adventure Centre to the river and back provided. You are bound to
see an abundance of bird life, lush indigenous forest scenes, and will
get the chance to “bum slide” at the halfway picnic stop.
The minimum age for rafting is 12 years, but in the low water season
(April – September) the river is quite low and less adventurous.
Younger children can then join the trip, accompanied by an adult or a
guide.

Situated at Misty Mountain, the 1,7 km Long Tom Toboggan
route is going to provide thrills and spills for any adventureseeker.
Starting at an altitude of 1 700 metres, riders can enjoy
a thrilling ride through the picturesque, rolling hills of
Long Tom Pass.
Dropping 115 metres from the start to finish, it takes
approximately four and a half minutes to reach the
bottom and may reach speeds of up to 45 km/h.

you up to a speed of about 100km/h. You can also go

Horse Riding
Experience the unique Lowveld scenery on horseback. One, two and
four hour rides. All trails are guided by a professional guide and the
trails meander through indigenous forests, citrus farms and blue gum
plantations between Hazyview and Sabie.
Rafting
