Features and Benefits
Easy to Apply & Install - A large swept volume provides for greater pump displacement in a smaller envelope.
Ports can be oriented relative to each other in 90° increments. Direction of rotation can be easily reversed. A
broad selection of displacements is available for each series. A wide range of shafts are available.
Long Life Expectancy - Diametrically opposed pumping chambers eliminate internal loading on bearings. Pumps
are qualified at 110% of ratings, assuring long life when operated within rated conditions.
Continuous High Performance - Vanes automatically compensate for any vane tip wear, providing like-new
pump performance for the duration of its life. Pressure-loaded side plates maintain minimum side clearances for
continuous volumetric efficiency, providing high pump performance indefinitely.
Quiet Performance - Pumps have ten or twelve vanes, each providing two pumping events per revolution,
resulting in exceptionally low pressure "ripple" in the hydraulic system. Low ripple means low vibration, and
therefore low noise generation.
Conforms to a Wide Variety of Applications - The pumps will accommodate almost any type of special hydraulic
fluid that the application requires. A very low starting torque is required as the vanes are not extended until
operating speed exceeds 500-600 rpm., which results in easier starting.
Easy to Service - The pumps can be easily serviced with a cartridge kit, upgrading the pump to like-new
condition, for a much lower cost than replacing the pump. Service can usually be performed without removing
the pump from the application.
High Performance - Low vane tip/ring loading allows high pressure operation. High speeds are possible because
the inlet flow paths are designed to give uniform oil acceleration and thus better filling characteristics, particularly
at low inlet pressures.
Application Information
Fluids: Anti-wear hydraulic oil, automotive type crankcase oil (SE, SF, SG, SH), fire-resistant fluids (requires
optional viton seals).
Seals: Buna-N standard (petroleum oil, water-glycol, water-in-oil emulsion, polyolester, high water base fluids).
Optional viton seals available for fire-resistant phosphate ester fluids.
Shaft Rotation: Clockwise or counterclockwise (Viewed from shaft end). Can be changed by changing the
assembly of internal parts.
Minimum Speed: 600 RPM.
Inlet Pressure: 0 to 5 psi (Recommended), 10 psi (Maximum), 5 in./Hg. (Minimum, with petroleum oil).
Operating Temperature: 120 to 130°F (Recommended), 150°F (Max. recommended oil), 180°F (Max. extreme
condition oil), 120°F (Max. water-containing fluids).
Recommended Fluid Viscosity: 70-250 SUS (Running), 4000 SUS Max (Startup).
Recommended Filtration: Per ISO Cleanliness Code, 20/18/15 (<2000 psi), 19/17/14 (2000-3000 psi).

Char-Lynn® H & S Series Shaft Side Load Capacity
The hydrodynamic bearing has infinite life when shaft load ratings are not exceeded. Hence, the shaft side load
capacity is more than adequate to handle most externally applied loads (such as belts, chains, etc.) providing the
motor/shaft combination is applied within it’s torque rating. Allowable side load chart, shaft load location drawing
and load curves (below) are based on the side/radial loads being applied to shaft at locations A, B and C. To
determine the shaft side load capacity at locations other than those shown, use the formula:

Char-Lynn® H & S Series Case Pressure & Case Drain
Char-Lynn H &S Series motors are durable and have long life as long as the recommended case pressure is not
exceeded. Allowable case pressure is highest at low shaft speeds. Consequently, motor life will be shortened if
case pressure exceeds these ratings (acceptability may vary with application).
Determine if an external case drain is required from the case pressure seal limitation chart below. If a case drain
line is needed, connect drain line to assure that the motor will always remain full of fluid. A pressure restriction
should be added to the case drain line to maintain 50 PSI case pressure. (A 50 PSI cracking pressure check
valve may be used).

Fluids: Anti-wear hydraulic oil, automotive type crankcase oil (SE, SF, SG, SH).
Note: Before starting the motor, fill its case with oil. The case must be kept full at all times to provide internal
lubrication.
Seals: Buna-N is standard.
Shaft Rotation: Bi-Rotational.
Minimum Speed: Normally 100 RPM. Lower speeds are permissible, depending upon torque requirements and
characteristics of the driven load.
Stall Torque: Motor stall torque ranges between 65% and 100% of 1200 RPM running torque for a given pressure
differential across the motor. This is dependent on the specific angular position of the shaft at stall and the
volume supply of fluid to the motor.
Case Drain Connection: The case drain line must be full size, unrestricted, and connected from the drain port
directly to the reservoir in such a manner that the housing remains filled with fluid. The line must be piped to
prevent siphoning and must terminate below the reservoir fluid level.
Case Drain Pressure: 0 PSI (Minimum), 10 PSI (Max. normal), 25 PSI (Max. pressure surge).
Operating Temperature: 120 to 130°F (Recommended), 150°F (Max. Recommended), 180°F (Max. extreme
condition).
Recommended Fluid Viscosity: 70-250 SUS (Running), 4000 SUS Max (Startup).
Recommended Filtration: Per ISO Cleanliness Code, 20/18/15 (<2000 psi), 19/17/14 (2000-2500 psi).

Application Information
Fluid Conveying
High Efficiency - A unique dual pressure plate design results in low internal leakage and overall operating
efficiency of about 86%. Efficiency varies with motor size, pressure, speed, and fluid viscosity and temperature.
Mounting Flexibility - The motor's cover can be assembled in four positions with respect to the body. Changing
port positions is accomplished by simply rotating the cover, and the cartridge which is pinned to the cover, in 90°
increments, thus providing the optimum mounting for connecting piping.
Reversibility - Through the dual plate design, the motors may be reversed simply by reversing the direction of oil
flow.
Series Operation - Inlet and outlet ports can be pressurized simultaneously without affecting service life or
operating smoothness. These motors are suited to series applications.
Easy to Service - The drive cartridge is accessible by removing the motor's cover and can be normally replaced in
ten minutes without removing the motor from the machine. The torque capability of motors within the same
model series can be changed by changing the cartridge or cam ring.
Low-Wear Design - 25M-50M motors are hydraulically balanced to reduce wear and heat-producing friction. All
internal inlet chambers are equally and diametrically opposed. As a result, pressure induced radial loads are
balanced. Shaft bearings only have to carry external loads so wear is greatly reduced.
Proven Reliability - For more than two decades, the reliability of the high performance motors has been field
proven on a variety of machinery applications.

Hydraulic Filters
A filter sized too small for an application will require more frequent element changes, resulting in a high operating
cost. The initial cost savings on the smaller filter assembly will be quickly erased by the cost of frequent element
changes. A filter sized too big will give long element life, but will have a high initial cost and might be physically
difficult to fit in the space available.
A good “rule of thumb”: For satisfactory element life, the clean element pressure drop should generally be less
than or equal to 40 percent of the indicator’s rated differential pressure. This means the clean element will have
60 percent (or more) of it’s capacity devoted to removing particulates.
The filter manufacturer’s pressure drop curves are based on using a fluid with a certain specific gravity and
operating at a certain fluid viscosity. The pressure drops taken from these curves will need to be adjusted for the
actual application conditions.
Adjusting for actual specific gravity will usually not be necessary, unless a high water based fluid is being used.
Adjusting for actual viscosity will almost always be necessary, since actual viscosity will vary greatly with the
viscosity grade of the fluid being used and the operating temperature of the application.

Pneumatic Power & Control
The curves below relate maximum on-time and percent on-time to motor current for the available motors. "Duty
Cycle" refers to the length of time the motor can be run at a specific current before it must be turned off and
allowed to cool.
Allowable Percent On-Time is based on a percentage of a 5-minute or shorter duty cycle. For example, on the
percent on-time curve, the 24 VDC motors at a current draw of 130 amps are capable of 10% on-time. The
motor could be run for 30 seconds, then must be turned off and allowed to cool for 4-1/2 minutes. This duty cycle
(30 seconds on, 4-1/2 minutes off) can then be repeated continuously. This ratio of 10% on-time to 90% off-time
applies to any duty cycle of 5 minutes or less.
Maximum On-Time is the absolute maximum continuous operating time at a specific current draw. For example,
on the maximum on-time curve. the 12 VDC motors at a current draw of approximately 155 amps could be run for
5 minutes continuously. The motor should then be turned off and allowed to cool to ambient temperature.
Having reached ambient temperature, the motor can again be run for 5 minutes. This run/cooling cycle can be
continuously repeated.
Note: The thermal characteristics of percent on-time and maximum on-time of the standard duty and medium duty
motors are identical. The medium duty motors are UL listed and do offer extended brush life over the standard
duty motors.
Motor damage may result from operation outside the curve parameters as shown below.

terminal locations of 03, 06, 09 and 12 are available.
Second, the motor start switch location must be determined.
Start switch positions 1 through 5 are available. Start switch
positions rotate in conjunction with the motor terminal
location.
Note: The standard motor terminal location is 12 and the
standard start switch position is 3. For single terminal motors
use motor terminal 1 only for location purposes.

Manifolds for GC9000 AC Power Units provide for single and multiple NFPA D03 directional valve combinations.
All multiple valve combinations are for parallel circuits. A total of three valves can be mounted. An optional
manual valve is shown in the picture above.
A base (primary) manifold mounts directly to the adapter. This manifold kit includes all the hardware including
check valve transfer bushing and return transfer bushing. If two or three valve are needed, secondary or stacked
manifolds are added to the base manifold and secured with the proper mounting bolt kit.
All manifolds are made from machined aluminum blocks. The cylinder ports are on the opposite side of the valve
mounting surface and are 9/16-18 SAE straight thread o-ring.

Pump & AC Motor Selection / Combinations
The nominal rated horsepower for TENV motors is based on a 30 minute duty cycle. The nominal rated
horsepower for TEFC motors is based on continuous duty. For 50 Hz operation, pump flow and horsepower
shown below need to be derated by approximately 20%. For TEFC motors the 30 minute rated horsepower is a
continuous rating.

Thermal Transfer DH & DHR Series Performance Curves
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Performance Curves are based on 50 SSU oil, 1000 Standard Feet per Minute (SFPM) Air Velocity, and oil entering
the cooler 50°F higher than the ambient air temperature used for cooling (This is referred to as a 50°F ETD).
Pneumatic Power & Control
Fluid Conveying
Step 1. Determine the Heat Load.
This will vary with different systems, but typically coolers are sized to remove 25-50% of the input
nameplate horsepower. If BTU to be removed is known, HP = BTU per hr. / 2545.
Step 2. Determine the Entering Temperature Difference.
The entering oil temperature is generally the maximum desired oil temperature.
Entering oil temperature - Ambient air temperature = ETD.
Step 3. Determine Air Velocity Correction Factor.
A. If SFPM air velocity is known, read value from curve on previous page.
(A reasonable assumption is 750 SFPM).
B. If SCFM (Standard Cubic Feet per Minute) air flow is known, calculate velocity as follows:
SFPM Air Velocity = (SCFM Air Flow / Sq. Ft. Face Area of Cooler).
Step 4. Calculate corrected heat load to enter curves.
Cooler Heat Dissipation = BTU/Hr. Heat load x [50°F / (Desired ETD x Air Velocity Correction Factor)]
Step 5. Enter the Performance Curves at the bottom with the GPM oil flow and proceed upward to the adjusted
heat load from step 4. Any curve on or above this point will meet these conditions.
Step 6. Multiply oil Pressure Drop from curve by correction factor found in Oil ΔP Correction Curve.
