Located Inside
Country Center
Prior to 1800,
Nappanee was
home to the Miami
and Pottawatami
Indians.
In 1830, the first
white settlers came to the area and by 1870 there
were seven farms in what is now Nappanee. The
population was nearly 40.
The three men credited with founding the town
in 1874 were Daniel Metzler, Henry Stahly and
John Culp, Jr., who were solely responsible for
platting what would then be known as a village.
The B & O Railroad would provide an opportunity
for the development of a prospering town.
In the last 130 years, Nappanee has grown to
house a diverse and progressive population of
nearly 6,500.

The 85-acre
Stauffer Park on the
northeast side of
Nappanee, has a
swimming pool, ball
diamonds, tennis and
basketball courts. It is also the home of the community-built 16,000 square foot “Little Paws Playground.”
Constructed in five days by over 1,000 local volunteers, over a year of preparation and planning by a
dedicated team of individuals, it is a state-of-the-art
playground facility.
McCormick Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole
municipal golf course which will challenge you with
water coming into play on twelve of the eighteen
holes. The course is 6,000+ yards and has very
reasonable greens fees.

The 158-acre Derksen Farm includes a lighted four
diamond softball/baseball complex and walking
trails. Educational signs identifying plants and animals
are some of the features of the environmental area.
Westside Park is the city’s oldest park constructed
at the turn of the century. This 5-acre tree-filled
facility has playground equipment, a picnic area,
and the Civic Theater Pavilion, which is on the
National Register of Historic Buildings.
