The Foundation Conference of TCM Pharmaceutical Analysis Speciality Committee of the World Federation of Chinese
Medicine Society
World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), approved by the State Council of P.R.China and
registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs, P.R.China, is an international academic organization with its
headquarters in Beijing. Its current Chairman is Ms. She Jing, Vice-Minister of Health and Director of the
State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, P.R.China. Currently, WFCMS has 195 Chinese
medicine societies in 57 countries and regions.
The Secretariat, an organ operating under WFCMS, is responsible for WFCMS's functionary management.
At present, the Secretariat possesses three administrative divisions, which are comprehensive department,
academic department, and finance department. The Secretariat also includes work departments such as
international standardization department, international examination department, international training
department, talent exchange and cooperation department, international information service department
(website of WFCMS), translation department, project management department, international medical
cooperation department, prize office, World Journal of Chinese Medicine and etc.
In order to expedite policy making and coordination, WFCMS also established consultation-coordination
committees such as the standardization committee, examination and evaluation committee, ethics committee,
education instruction committee, clinical instruction committee, scientific and technical development
committee, etc. They are mainly responsible for research, consultation and coordination of different
professional realms.
WFCMS is devoted to promoting the understanding and cooperation among the academic groups of Chinese
medicine all over the world, strengthening the international academic exchange, improving their qualifications
for Chinese medicine, protecting and developing Chinese medicine, working to have Chinese medicine gain
access to the mainstream of medical system in different countries, promoting the exchange and cooperation
among Chinese medicine and other medicines in the world and, therefore, making greater contributions to the
health of mankind. The main tasks of the organization are (1) to work out and publicize international standards
related to Chinese medicine, thereby, carrying out international certification and pushing forward the healthy
development of Chinese medicine in the world; (2) to conduct various academic activities for the purpose of
promoting international exchange and cooperation among societies of Chinese medicine; promote the
academic development and personnel training, thereby allowing Chinese medicine to contribute more to the
health of mankind.
The International Examination Department, carries out international qualification (level) test for practitioners,
acupuncturists, pharmacists, nurses, technicians and teachers so as to improve their qualifications and establish
their academic positions. The international training, talent exchange and distance medical consultation
conducted by WFCMS aim to improve the qualification and academic level of Chinese medicine professionals.
Some other tasks include setting up internet work, carrying out informational consultations and services,
publishing academic magazines, are making known the unique advantages of Chinese medicine and expanding
its influence internationally. WFCMS holds international exhibitions and builds an international exchange
platform so as to promote the international trade of Chinese medicine, health-care products and medical
equipments. WFCMS also undertakes the administration of science research projects both domestically and
internationally, and provides medicine technique support and services for related societies and bodies. It shall
conduct international cooperation and exchange of Chinese medicine techniques and services through hospitals
and specialized medical departments. WFCMS organizes and appraises the "International Prize for the
Contribution to Chinese Medicine" the only international prize in Chinese medicine, to groups or individuals
who have made outstanding achievements in the medical treatment, teaching, research, legislation, or have
made a special contribution to the international dissemination of Chinese medicine.
WFCMS always endeavors to promote the international exchange, spread and development of Chinese
medicine. Through the joint effort of all its members, WFCMS will develop into the base of strategic research
on the internationalization of Chinese medicine, the base for the research, formulating and implementation of
the international standards of Chinese medicine and also the base for Chinese medicine science, information,
talents and products exchange.
For the promotion of international academic studies and development of CM subjects, the establishment of
specialty committees has been taking as one of WFCMS's most important issues. Up to now, 31 specialty
committees have already been registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs, P.R.China. And TCM Pharmaceutical
Analysis speciality committee is one of them.
