The funeral for Hope Marguerite Shade will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Donelson,
Sewell & Mathews Mortuary.
Interment will be in Alderbrook Cemetery in Idaville.
She died Monday in a Hillsboro care center of causes related to age. She was 84.
Mrs. Shade was born Dec. 4, 1906, in Ritzville, Wash. Her family moved to Oregon when she
was 2, and she was a life-time resident of the state and a graduate of Jefferson High School. Her
maiden name was Cloud.
Mrs. Shade married William R. Shade Sr. in 1928 in Portland. He died in 1979.
She lived in Portland, Lake Oswego, Twin Rocks, Seaside and Redmond, before moving to
Hillsboro last year.
Mrs. Shade served as president of the Rockaway PTA, was a member of the Lady of the Moose
in Tillamook, and the Twin Rocks Improvement Club.
Survivors include her son, James Shade Sr. of Portland; daughters, La Rayne Becker of Port
Townsend, Wash., Kathleen Oliver of Redmond and Jacqulyn Loomis of Portland; and 11
grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Ethel Grace Fimpel
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in the chapel of Finley Sunset Hills
Mortuary for Ethel Grace Fimpel, who died Dec. 9 at age 99.
Mrs. Fimpel was born Aug. 22, 1899, in Cashmere, Wash. Her maiden name was Wilcox.
She lived in Portland for more than 75 years. She taught art at Rose City Park Grade School for
many years until retiring. Her husband, Earl, died in 1982.
Survivors include her daughters, Doris McRae of Neskowin and Jean Salmans-Olsen of
Tacoma; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances
to Shriners Hospital for Children.

William Benton Lucas
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Cherry Park Presbyterian Church in
Troutdale for William Benton "Bill" Lucas, who died Dec. 25 at age 57.
Mr. Lucas was born July 12, 1947, in Portland. He graduated from Benson High School and
Portland State University and served in the Navy. He moved to Troutdale in 2001, and was a
salesman for Eagle Hardware and Lowe's Home Improvement of Wood Village for 10 years. In
1999, he married Beth Wheeler.
Survivors include his wife; son, Jesse; daughter, Jennifer Cruz; mother, Elsie; sisters, Carol
Trotter and Phyllis Schrock; and two grandchildren.

Agnes Clark
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Portland First United
Methodist Church for Agnes Clark, who died Nov. 24 at age 80.
Agnes Carter was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Lakewood, N.J. She graduated from Bates College
in Maine and received a master's degree from Portland State University after moving to Portland
in 1949. She was an office administrator for the Multnomah County Traffic Enforcement Division
for about 10 years. She was a member of the church for more than 55 years. In 1950, she
married Richard E.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Irene; son, David; sister, Lucia Taylor; and two
grandchildren.

Naomi E. Leighton
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for
Naomi E. Leighton, who died Oct. 4 at age 88.
Naomi E. Brumwell was born July 8, 1919, in Portland and lived most of her life in Milwaukie. A
homemaker, she also lived in California, Ohio, Mississippi and Washington. She last lived in
Lincoln City. In 1936, she married Leland H.; he died in 2003.
Survivors include her son, Gary; daughter, Birdie Etchison; 14 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her daughter Barbara Rutledge died in
2001.

HAPPY VALLEY -- Services for Clifford B. Brumwell, 86, of Happy Valley will be at 10 a.m.
Thursday at Anderson's Chapel in Anderson.
Pastor Barry Ulloth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Anderson will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the chapel.
Burial will be at Happy Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Brumwell died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in
Redding.
Born May 12, 1912, in Portland, Ore., he moved to Shasta County in 1976 from San Pablo.
He was a retired painter, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Anderson, a member
of the Senior Volunteer Program in Happy Valley, and a volunteer for the Senior Citizen Nutrition
Program in Happy Valley.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Dolly; son Roy Baker of Santa Rosa; daughters Maxelea Holfeld
of Central Point, Ore., and Lenore Bell of Happy Valley; sisters Marjorie Sartor of Happy Valley
and Naomi Leighton of Portland; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in St. Henry Catholic Church
in Gresham for Barbara Ann Rutledge, who died May 3 at age 56.
Mrs. Rutledge was born Barbara Ann Leighton on April 18, 1945, in Portland. She graduated from
Milwaukie High School. She was a homemaker who moved to Gresham in 1979. She was her
church's marriage leader for several years. She also worked at the church soup kitchen and
started a cancer recovery group at the church. In 1965, she married Richard Rutledge Sr.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Richard R. Jr. and Leland R.; daughters, Rae Ann Patikas,
Renee K. Rutledge and Rose Lynn M. Rutledge; parents, Leland and Naomi Leighton; brother,
Gary L. Leighton; sister, Birdie Lee Etchison; and three grandchildren.

Margaret Riddle, who died July 30 of leukemia at age 85.
Mrs. Riddle was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Albany. Her maiden name was Simpson. She was a
professional singer.
Surviving are her husband, Eldon; son, Tim of Kirkland, Wash.; daughters, Elva M. Martin of
Eagle River, Alaska, Margaret A. Thurman of Welches and Carolyn Kilmer of Tualatin; three
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to Faith
Evangelical Church in Milwaukie.

T. Eldon Riddle
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for T. Eldon
Riddle, who died Aug. 15 at age 93.
Mr. Riddle was born July 15, 1906, in Scottsboro, Ala., and was raised in Fort Sumner, N.M. He
graduated from Oregon Normal School and received a bachelor's degree from Oregon State
College and a master's degree from the University of Oregon. During World War II, he was a
security officer at Willamette Iron and Steel. He was principal of Milwaukie Junior High School for
37 years before his retirement in 1971. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church and
was selected a patron of Phi Beta, a national professional fraternity of music and speech. In
1930, he married Lorene Wishard; she died in 1987. He married Mildred Lorenzen in 1988; she
died in 1997.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Noblet of Tualatin; son, Tim of Kirkland, Wash.; niece,
Patti Misko of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, J.O. of Kissimmee, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
