Novelda at a glance
Novelda AS is an R&D driven, fabless semiconductor company specializing in Low Power Ultra Wide Band Impulse Radar. Our
revolutionary radar system-on-a-chip technology forms the basis for developing non-intrusive sensors towards a range of applications
such as vital signs monitoring, human safety, building and home automation.
We focus on providing easy-to-use OEM sensor modules including software, antennas and signal processing.

Background
Combining multiple sensors into one
www.xethru.com
UWB pulse radar principle – close targets resolved by range
www.xethru.com
STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL
•
Target resolved in range by transmitting
very short (~ ns) pulses
•
Range resolution ∆R = ctp/2 (c = 3.0e8)
•
•
E.g. tp = 1ns -> BW=1 GHz -> ∆R = 15 cm
Very high range accuracy (~cm)

XeThru vs PSG - Respiration
• PSG sensors provide gold
standard for sleep
measurement
• Respiration data obtained from
PSG sensor and XeThru
• Virtually identical RPM reading
from PSG and XeThru

Problem Statement
How do you develop?
How do you integrate
development,
manufacturing &
delivery?
Two Objectives
Quality
Timeline
The Challenge - Product Quality
for each unit manufactured, be
able to:
• Identify the HW revision
• Complete Hierarchical BOM
• Traceable validation process
• Identify the FW revision
• Full revision history
• Traceable validation process
• Full test coverage + functional test
• 100% HW test coverage
• Individual RF test on each unit
www.xethru.com
The Challenge - Complexity
Complexity
Environment
• High Complexity HW
• Multiple HW Configurations
• High Frequency
• Ultra wideband
• Extremely high sampling rates
• High Complexity SW
• Advanced signal processing
• RTOS
• Adaptive SW, noise tolerant
• Low cost
• To be used in consumer products
• Rapidly changing market
• Tine to market is crucial
www.xethru.com
• Multiple Usage Scenarios
• FW Embedded in customers
application, not likely to be upgraded
• World wide distribution
• Satisfy the quality requirements of tier
1 brands
• Small company – limited resources

Summary
• Continuous Delivers delivers its promise of quality and availability of SW
• If you do it right from the start you get there faster
• It does not have to distract teams, actually it helps
• Setting up the complete shop from development to delivery is a puzzle that
involves multiple systems with many interactions
• The task of knowing all the tools required for the flow to work can be
difficult for a small company such as Novelda
• The combined output when first established is very efficient, promotes
great product quality and is easy to QA/QC certify
