A B O U T S U SA N G . KO M E N ®
Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer
research than any other nonprofit while also providing real-time help to those facing the disease.
Since its founding in 1982, Komen has funded more than $889 million in research and provided
$1.95 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support programs
serving millions of people in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Komen was founded by Nancy G. Brinker, who promised her sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would
end the disease that claimed Suzy’s life.
Susan G. Komen Nevada is an independent, local non-profit organization, dedicated to combating
breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of Komen Nevada’s net proceeds will stay in Nevada to fund
local breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent is
pooled with funds raised by other Komen Affiliates to fuel Komen’s international breast cancer
research program.
Komen Nevada has been raising funds and supporting Nevada communities for 21 years. To date,
more than $11.2 million has been allocated to education, screening and treatment programs for
uninsured and underinsured Nevadans, and more than $3 million has been raised for international
breast cancer research focused on reducing breast cancer incidence and mortality.
“Komen gives hope to our members. These precious funds
provide more than financial relief – they provide advocacy and
support during our members’ most trying personal moments.”

WHY GIVE TO THE KOMEN RENO RACE FOR THE CURE?
Access to breast cancer services can make the difference between an early breast cancer
diagnosis when outcomes are best, and a delayed diagnosis when the outcomes may not be as
positive. Komen funds provide access to these critical services. Together we can change the odds
for Nevadans with breast cancer.
Seventy-five percent of our funds stay in Nevada to help Nevadans impacted by breast cancer. The
remaining twenty-five percent is dedicated to breast cancer research. Both are helping CHANGE
THE ODDS for Nevadans with breast cancer.
KOMEN FUNDS AT WORK IN NORTHERN NEVADA
The following community partners are helping change the odds for Nevadans with breast cancer.

underinsured Nevadans in a mobile mammography van that travels to all corners of the state.

biopsies and treatment support to low-income, uninsured and underinsured Nevadans.

T H A N K YO U !
Thank you for partnering with Susan G. Komen Nevada and the Reno Race for the Cure®. It’s your
support that enables us to fund the research, education, and treatment programs that will end
breast cancer.
We rely on you to help us make the greatest impact possible. Let’s make sure no woman’s breast
cancer goes undiagnosed and untreated. Because a person’s income should not impact the
outcome of a breast cancer diagnosis.
