Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla
Indians are a federally recognized
tribe established in 1876, named after
the village of Toro and the Martinez
Indian Agency. The reservation is
located in the Coachella Valley in
Riverside and Imperial Counties. The
Tribe obtained the Tribal TANF grant
in 2001 to provide tribal members
with temporary financial assistance and supportive
services. Soon after, they extended the Tribal TANF
Program to Los Angeles County, open to any enrolled
member of any federally recognized tribe, some state
recognized tribes, or the descendants of such tribes.
The TM Tribal TANF mission is to help tribal families
achieve self-sufficiency and independence.
