Stichting CliniClowns Nederland
Stichting CliniClowns Nederland
The CliniClowns Nederland charitable foundation brings diversion and
fun to sick or handicapped children. Our team of CliniClowns gives
the children the chance to be in charge of their own situation and
lets them become children again.
CliniClowns Vision
Children with a sickness or handicap are dependent and
vulnerable. Because their surroundings are focussed on their
sickness or handicap, they are drawn unintentionally into a far
too adult world. This means that one of the essential elements
of being a child – having a playful outlook on life – is put under
pressure.
It is CliniClowns vision that any child that finds itself in this
difficult situation through sickness or handicap should,
despite the circumstances, be able to play and just be a child
again. Especially for these children, games, fantasy and
imagination are of utmost importance. Playing gives children
a chance to develop. It helps them to cope with and accept
their situation.
CliniClowns Mission
CliniClowns offers diversion and fun to children who are sick
or have a mental or physical handicap. In this way we aim
to contribute to improving their quality of life.
We play with the children through the figure of the clown.
Because the clowns are in league with the children, they
can establish contact in their own individual way. The
clown represents the optimism, wide-eyed amazement,
fantasy and innocence of the child’s world. Through play
and imagination the clowns can draw the children and
those close to them out of their daily reality. Clown and
child together can create a small moment of magic that
has a much greater significance.
CliniClowns Mission
As an organisation, CliniClowns wants to play a leading role in
helping children with a sickness or handicap.
-
In the contact between clown and child, where quality
counts for everything.
By stimulating research that substantiates and improves
the work of Cliniclowns
By appealing to society for support and funding to make
this all possible.
CliniClowns: the power of contact, imagination and fun!
“Sometimes he’s there straightaway, sometimes it takes a little longer.
But he does come. Suddenly you see a heartwarming smile,
A look that shows attention, wonder and sometimes an awakening
interest. A magic moment, because when that happens the children
can completely forget that they are sick…...”

on a Visit
CliniClowns on a Visit
At the moment there are more than 65 specially trained professional Cliniclowns working in 110 hospitals and other
care institutions throughout the Netherlands. They operate in close consultation with the pedagogical members of
staff who know what special needs the children have. During the clown’s visit, the child itself decides what kind of
game it wants to play. While some children like rough and tumble, others prefer a subtle little game. Sometimes
this means roaring with laughter, sometimes there are just sparkling eyes. It all depends on what the child prefers.
Do you find one-to-one contact important? For € 79,- per hour you can sponsor a clown to visit a hospital.
“Lynne is 8 years old and has just come back from the recovery
room. A little later Kwieb and Peer approach her bed. They notice
that Lynne likes music. But where can they quickly find a
musical instrument? Then you see Peer thinking ‘Aha, you see
that little table over there!’ and in a flash the table has become
a drum kit. Peer lifts it up, gets mixed up with the table legs but
finally manages to balance it clumsily above his head.
Kwieb is the drummer and with every drumbeat Peer pretends to
be in a lot of pain. Then Kwieb takes a handkerchief and carefully
places it between Peer’s head and the table. But does that really
ease the pain? In any case, Lynne thinks it does because she is
totally absorbed in what the clowns are doing!”

Boemtata
CliniClowns Circus Boemtata
Specially for children with multiple and/or mental handicaps, we have developed our
‘Boemtata Circus’. This travelling performance is completely adapted to the
environment of these children, for whom ‘hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and
feeling’ are central to their lives. In this way they can, within their own possibilities,
enjoy a day out with their parents, carers, companions, brothers and sisters.
For these children and their families, a ‘normal’ day out is often impossible, given the
lack of the necessary resources and facilities. The theatre tour is totally in tune with
the needs and desires of these children so that together they can enjoy a carefree
time.
The two and a half hour performance has already been travelling around the whole
country for a number of years and is a great success. At the end of the performance
every child is given a book and a CD that they can enjoy at home.
Would you like to give 200 people an unforgettable day? For € 21.500, you can sponsor
a performance of ‘Boemtata Circus’ which will give 60 handicapped children and all
their family a very special experience.
“It’s very touching that my son can experience all this and that there are
people who understand what’s needed to entertain a child with limitations in
the same way that is normal for the rest of us. Thank you so much!”

In Concert
CliniClowns in Concert
CliniClowns in Concert is an interactive musical performance that has been
specially developed for long-term sick children aged between 8 and 12,
along with their families or school. CliniClowns in Concert promises a
more than two hours long musical experience with special interactions
between the children, the Cliniclowns and their idols.
For € 17.750 you can sponsor a single performance of CliniClowns in Concert,
giving 80 long-term sick children and their families a never to be
forgotten afternoon. If you want to make it possible for a single family to
go to a performance of CliniClowns in Concert it will cost you € 220,- .
Dear CliniClowns,
We just want to let you know how fantastic it was! We all enjoyed it so much! For 4 hours we
walked around with a smile on our face! In one word, terrific! Thank you very, very, very
much for a wonderful time!!

Klein Zintuigen
Orkest
CliniClowns Klein Zintuigen Orkest
Especially for children with mental and/or multiple handicaps, Cliniclowns has
developed the so-called ‘Klein Zintuigen Orkest’ (The ‘Little Senses Band’). The
Klein Zintuigen Orkest consists of three musicians (CliniClowns) and makes
tours throughout the Netherlands. Every week it visits a different institution.
During its visit, the band gives four performances, each time for a different group
of children.
The Klein Zintuigen Orkest always attunes its performance to the level of the children
in the audience, which means that every performance is different. The music
aims to stimulate all of the senses of the children (hearing, feeling, smelling,
seeing and tasting) and lets the children become themselves again.
During the 30 minute performance of the Klein Zintuigen Orkest the clowns can make
contact with around 8 children in very special way. For € 560,- you can sponsor
one visit of the Klein Zintuigen Orkest to an institution somewhere in the
Netherlands.
“You could see the children brightening up. And we also went around with a big smile on
our faces for the rest of the day. The children are physically very vulnerable and
limited in what they can do. A day out is simply too heavy for them. Within five
minutes the Cliniclowns worked out what the children were capable of doing and what
not. They could really see whether the games were too rough or too gentle”

‘Once upon a
time…’
CliniClowns School Tour, performing ‘Once upon a time..’
Since April 2009, a team of three CliniClowns has been travelling between various
ZMLK schools (for children with learning disabilities) with a very special theatre
performance based on a fairy tale. Because the children already know the fairy
tale, they can help the clowns finish the story. Each clown takes several roles and
makes sure that the comedy comes through. The CliniClowns use the input
of the children in their acting. During the performance the children are encouraged
by the clowns to interfere and thus influence the progress of the performance. The
performance is suitable for all age groups but corresponds best of all to the
world of imagination of children with mental disabilities aged between 4 and 12.
Would you like to give around 45 children with learning disabilities an
unforgettable experience? For € 1.560,- we can make a 45 minute long
performance of ‘Once upon a time…’ come true.
“All of us here really enjoyed your terrific show! You put so much dedication and
enthusiasm into it. And all the kids with their red noses in the taxi…it was simply great”.

Wapper
CliniClowns School Tour, Wapper
‘Wapper’ is a show where the children simply do not sit still. Together
with the clowns and the workshop leaders, the children create their
own show! On the day of the show, the school is transformed into
a theatre. The performance alternates between presentations of the
workshops and the Cliniclowns’ own acts. All of the children take part
in a workshop in which they put together their own performance…
and anything goes! The day is rounded off by a big theatre show in which
all of the children make a contribution. The ‘Wapper’ school tour visits
LZK schools (children with learning difficulties) and Mytyl schools
(children with physical handicaps).
Would you like to sponsor a whole day of the ‘Wapper’ tour, giving
around 90 sick or handicapped children the day of their lives?
A wonderful show that parents, brothers and sisters can also enjoy.
You can make this fantastic day come true for € 21.200,-.
”Today the travelling theatre group came to De Groninger Buitenschool
in Glimmen. What an experience, what a treat for our children…and also
for the parents and carers. I must confess that there were tears in my eyes.”

Play Chest
The Play Chest (‘De Speelkoffer’)
The CliniClowns try their best to meet as many children in hospital as possible. But they can’t be
everywhere. Therefore, the Cliniclowns Play Chest has been designed to provide the children with fun
and pleasure. There is something exciting in each of the drawers of the gigantic Play Chest, like an
interactive distorting mirror with many innovative gadgets, a clown orchestra (which starts to revolve
when the organ is played), an exciting game of balance and funny films. This Play Chest has already
been placed in a number of hospitals. Over the coming years our aim is to have a Play Chest in all
hospitals and institutions that have a children’s ward.
Would you like to make sure that sick children can have hours of pleasure when the clowns are not there?
For € 25.000,- you can donate a Play Chest in your own name.
“Our children have diabetes and so they sometimes have to go into hospital. When the Cliniclowns come on
Wednesday, it makes a welcome change. They can laugh and it makes them forget for a while that they are in
hospital. Now they can enjoy themselves all the time with the Play Chest. Yesterday evening they even asked
us when they could go back to the hospital! So thank you so much for this super gift”

At present more and more sick or handicapped children are being cared for at home.
These children can link in to the private and unique online world of experience of
Cliniclowns, Neuzenrode.nl, for their amusement and pleasure whenever they want to.
On Neuzenroode.nl they can webcam with the CliniClowns or chat with other children,
watch short films of the clowns, play games and do many more things. The ‘Neuzers’
also organise a number of small-scale mini events.
For just € 265.-, CliniClowns can give a sick or handicapped child a lot of fun and
enjoyment on each of the 365 days of the year, whenever the child wants it, via
Neuzenroode.nl and the Neuzenroode mini-events.
“Its so obvious that our son Ingo really enjoys Neuzenrode. He thinks that Puk and the other
Cliniclowns really live there. He can go back into a wonderful children’s world. We find
that really great. because he has recently been so serious and worried.”

College
CliniClowns College
The CliniClowns College, located in part of the Cliniclowns building, is aimed at
children who are seriously ill or have a handicap. Children who, by the nature of
their illness or handicap, are hindered in their everyday lives. These children can
take part in the CliniClowns College by being recommended to do so.
For every child we aim to offer a made-to-measure experience. The actors (the
Concierge and the Clown) adapt their show and the Cliniclowns College to the
capabilities and the possibilities of the individual child. The College also offers a
unique opportunity to influence the sensory experience of each child by adjusting
the light and sound effects.
In this attraction, an exclusive invitation is extended to a single child with his friends
and family. From the moment that the front doors of the CliniClowns College
swing open, strange things happen and the children are drawn into a wonderful
adventure.
For € 1.000,- you can give an unforgettable adventure to one seriously isolated child
and 10 of his guests.
‘One day in the CliniClowns College lasted me a whole year, with a big smile on my face’.
