The role of proper venting should not be discounted in the total recipe for quality castings. Here how to avoid costly gas
problems. Vent (vent) a means of escape or passage from a restricted area; an opening which allows the escape of
vapor, heat, gas or liquid.
The need to vent cores and molds has been recognized for centuries as a means of avoiding the adverse effects of gases
entrapped or evolved from cores, molds, coatings, adhesives and fillers during pouring and solidification. Without
adequate venting, gases become entrapped and result in gas-related defects such as blowholes or scabbing. Proper
venting techniques can result in fewer rejects, decreased finishing times and increased production economies.
Venting is more necessary in cores than in molds because a major portion of a core is in direct contact with molten
metal and the core area where gases may escape is usually limited. While venting molds to allow the gas generated at
the mold face to escape is not generally of great concern, it is essential to provide mold vents to relieve the buildup of
core gas.

Chills used in making moulds are internal chills and external chills. Internal chills are set so they
project into the mould cavity. They are expected to fuse with the solidifying metal and become a
part of the casting. Extreme care should be taken to make sure the chills are clean. Any grease,
finger marks, film, or dirt will prevent good fusion between the chill and the casting.

This is a commonly used pouring cups, to provide feeder holes in Moulds. Spring Loaded
Mechanism releases this Pouring Cup from the Moulds.
These cups are specifically fabricated in accordance to the grade of the material poured and
height of the mould. These Sprue Cups are corrosion resistant, highly accurate and are long
lasting.
Standard size Sprue Cups are available EX – STOCK. Customized Sprue Cups also available.
