As I was brainstorming on what to
write about this
month, I found myself logging into the
Nextdoor.com site
to find out what it
is all about. I began to update my
profile, as many of our neighbors
have already done, and I came to
a fantastic question that actually
put a smile on my face: “What is
your favorite thing about Acres
Green?” Wow!
What a great question. Are
there words to describe the feel-
ings that many of us have about
our community? Below are the
answers that were posted by your
fellow neighbors. We will let this
one speak for itself.
Location. Great neighbors and
their dogs. No HOA requirement.
It’s quiet with large lots and it’s
friendly. Friendly people out &
about, Convenience to shops &
relatives, reasonable property values within high priced neighborhoods, open space. Close proximity to diverse retail, restaurants
(Continued on page 9)
New site to keep in touch with Neighbors.
As we mentioned in the last newsletter, we have been testing a new
site that allows our Acres Green neighbors to keep in touch with each
other. This is a private site only open to those living here. The site is
free for our use. E-mail addresses are not sold, nor do they inundate
you with pop-ups or ads. The site has been up for several weeks and
over 50 residents have been using it.
Neighbors can share community events, recommendations, items
for sale/free, crime/safety concerns, babysitting, garage sales and so
much more. Photos have also been added.
Share as much or as little personal information as you like with
neighbors. Groups can be formed for such things as gardening, bunko,
cribbage, softball and so much more. What are your interests? We
hope many of you will try this out and give us feedback on your experience. The answers to many other commonly asked questions can be
found on the website.

postcard or entering a credit card number for address verification. After the postcard is received, you will need to enter the code on the
postcard to have permanent access to the site. If you have any questions or problems contact Jean Henke, contact info on this page.

I had admired the western style

last HOA meeting he said: "thanks,
my wife made it." Indeed, Virginia
Bruch has many talents.
Virginia sews, crochets, scrapbooks, does beading, knits and recently has been working on the
family history. Over the years besides being a busy housewife and

waitress, in a Jeans factory, and has

The Bruchs have two sons and a

Jean Henke AGHOA Recorder & Publisher of the Greenleaf
The last AGHOA meeting was
held Dec. 20, at the South Metro
Fire Station.
This was the first meeting presided by our new President Karen
Padrevita.
The first topic was a discussion
of the new Website for the community—Nextdoor.com. Jean made
available frequently asked questions, which are also available on
the website. Two things shared with
the group were that your E-mail
and personal information not shared
or sold, it is available only to people in your neighborhood. They
will not inundate us with banners or
popups.
It is funded by benchmark capitol and Shasta ventures. They hope
to make money in the future working with local businesses. More information can be found on the website.
The conversation continued regarding whether we should keep
our Facebook account in addition to
Nextdoor. After hearing from the
group, it was clear that those who
like Facebook will continue to use
Facebook, but those who don’t use
Facebook felt more comfortable
sharing information that is kept
within our community and so are
more comfortable with Nextdoor.
In order to verify addresses they
send out postcards or by entering
credit card information. Once you
receive your postcard you must enter the code on the site.
We will still keep the website,
which is a great resource and is not
interactive. Our newsletter is on
that site as well other information
and links to other sites of interest to
our community.
The next order of business was a
call for additional volunteers. Karen
mentioned that we really need
someone to head up the Welcome
Committee. Jim Stern volunteered
for that committee. Thank you Jim.
Karen is fine still working on
the Children’s parade.
The Water Storage project is
basically done except for some
landscaping and trail work which
can’t be done until spring.
Nothing to report regarding
building around us. Jean sent the
contact information for Karen and
Matt to the county, South Suburban
and Lone Tree.
No treasurers report was available at this meeting. $1250 annually
for newsletter delivery. We still
have the cd, which is our reserve.
We are seeing a gradual increase in
members paying with Paypal.
Alyce is receiving 2013 memberships and a list of current members is reported in this newsletter.
Pat mentioned that things are
moving along on the C-470 improvements. They are about to
make an announcement on which
light refreshments. This is a free
sues. Both classes are free and held event to everyone.

Karen mentioned that we have

Karen left the dais to put on her

about a matching fund program
they are making available to neighborhoods. Acres Green has $500
available to us for the matching
fund program. This is a reimbursement program, which means that
we will have to spend the money
and then get reimbursed.
It was mentioned that perhaps
the matching funds from Metrum
could be used in conjunction with
Matching funds from South Suburban and thereby reduce our overall
expense.
Finally, the group presented
awards to Jean and Ron for service
to the community. See the picture
and notes at the end of Karen’s column on page 9.
Kathy thanked C. R. for all the
work he does on the East garden.
Ron was thanked for putting up the

We adjourned to the Brewery

and other services, including light rail. It's proximity
to everything.
The people. Neighbors, trees, low taxes, no restrictive covenants. My wonderful neighbors that I have
known so long. Sense of community. Great neighbors!
Friendly neighbors who watch out for each other. The
friends I have met are "wonderful".
The neighborhood. Relaxed atmosphere, older
neighborhood with reasonable sized homes on large
lots with mature trees. Our Cul-de-Sac. Our huge
backyard, not a "cookie cutter" community. The real
neighborhood feel. I love the quietness and sense of
safety. The nearby open space, the trees, the proximity
to things, the people. Older neighborhood, not covenant fees/laws. That people move in and never want to
leave. Eclectic and varied mix of neighbors. It’s a bit
of a time capsule. The Diversity of the neighbors, the
mature setting with trees and large lots. Mellow and
easy. The good neighbors who outnumber the bad.
Quiet, no through traffic. The people are warm and
real, we have all the advantages with none of the hassle, we care about each other and our community, our
HOA is voluntary and super wonderful.
At our December meeting, we celebrated a couple
of great people that were also mentioned in the December Greenleaf; Ron Brink and Jean Henke. We
thanked Ron for his “time” and
presented him with a beautiful
desk clock and we honored our
neighborhood perennial Jean
Henke and presented her with an
etched vase.

Remembering Cecil Courtright
Information provided by Susan Cronk
Many of you will remember Cecil
Courtright, as an original owner here
in Acres Green, but more because as
one neighbor put it “He was a neighbor’s neighbor.”
Cecil was active in the community
in many ways. He volunteered for the
4th of July festivities, started the Welcome committee and enjoyed welcoming new home owners and inviting them to the AGHOA meetings. Cecil was not only a member of the
AGHOA, but attended those and the Town Meetings
until his health prevented it. Cecil was very civic minded, when he saw something that needed to be addressed
he was always willing to step up and find a way to take
action and get others involved.
Cecil was instrumental in establishing the front and
East gardens. We have Cecil to thank not only for his
persistence in getting the weed field at the front of the
community reclaimed, but also for his diligence in
keeping that garden and the East garden, watered
weeded and planted for so many years. Cecil started
the garden club. His own garden was equally well tended.
A year and a half ago due to his and his wife Dorothy’s health they moved to an assisted living center in
Nebraska, which is close to their son.
We received a call over the Christmas Holidays that
Cecil had died. Cecil lived a long productive life. He
leaves his wife, son and daughter, five grand-children
and two great-grandchildren. We understand that his
wife, Dorothy is doing well.
