MILLMAN Career Networking Group at Bais Torah Bais Torah has started a Monsey Networking Group for the purpose of providing career guidance, assistance and support for those seeking new career opportunities. The group is open to everyone: employed, unemployed or underemployed, with the goal of providing assistance to help people build and extend a network of contacts; reaching out to those with hiring ability in the required target markets, or people who know them; and finally, helping people to secure jobs. Guest speakers have been invited to address the group, in order to provide concrete assistance with resumé writing, interviewing, and working with recruiters, time management and more. The first organizational meeting took place on Tuesday, February 5, at Bais Torah. Mr. Ed McCabe addressed the group on the topic of “Key Milestones of an Effective Job Search Strategy.” Mr. McCabe discussed job-search strategy and tactics that today’s job seekers need to land a position. Four key subjects were the focus of his presentation: Determine Your Target – the strategy of a job search; Get the Message Out – how to effectively communicate that you are looking for work; Talk With the Hiring Manager – how to impress a hiring manager in a 30-minute conversation; and Interview, Cultivate Offers and Negotiate – closing the deal. The speaker, Ed McCabe, is currently a Senior Consultant, Senior Trainer and Executive Job Coach at Lee Hecht Harrison, and has consulted for the firm for the past 12 years. Prior to his career at Lee Hecht Harrison, Ed pursued a 35-year career with JPMorgan Chase, 25 years in human resources, 10 years as Senior Vice President at Chase Bank, NJ, responsible for Human Resources, Public Relations and Corporate Social Policy. Ed holds an MBA in Executive Management from NYU’s Stern School of Business and an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Saint Francis College, Brooklyn, NY. He also completed the JPMorgan Chase Executive Seminar at Harvard University and the Advanced Program for Human Resources Executives at the University of Michigan. Kollel Shomrei HaChomos Holds Annual Dinner Kollel Shomrei HaChomos Reb Meir Baal Haness held its annual dinner for Monsey, Spring Valley and New Square residents. Kollel Shomrei Hachomos is known primarily for its tremendous chessed network that feeds the hungry, cares for the sick, and helps widows and orphans in every way. However, the organization’s scope is even broader. Like the walls of Yerushalayim, it encircles Eretz Yisrael’s Jews. From kimpeturin support to old-age homes, Talmud Torahs to kollelim for advanced Torah studies, wedding assistance programs and money-lending gemachs, there is no need that goes unanswered by Kollel Shomrei HaChomos. Thousands of bnei Torah daven and learn in Kollel Shomrei Hachomos batei medrash across Eretz Yisrael. Thousands of poor, including widows and orphans, participate in massive Yom Tov distributions that bring necessities into poor homes just in time for Yom Tov. Thousands of departed neshamos benefit from an eternal aliyah through the Kollel Shomrei Hachomos Keren Kayemes fund. The melaveh malkah took place on Motzoei Shabbos, February 9, at the Atrium Plaza. The guest speaker at the event was Rabbi Shloma Yaakov Zeida Eichenstein, the Galanta Rav. Divrei brachah were given by Rabbi Avrum Hersh Wosner, Rav of Khal Yetev Lev of Satmar Monsey. The Gabbai Kodesh Award was given to Rabbi Binyamin Gruber. The Dometz Hisachdus Harabanim Award was given to Rabbi Duvid Leib Braun of New Square and Mr. Moshe Tzvi Steinberg and Mr. Zvi Peretz Bodonskia. The dinner was dedicated in memory of Mr. Yosef Shmiel Kohn.
