L'Eternel dit à Moïse: "Dis à Aaron de prendre ton bâton et de
l'étendre sur les eaux de l'Egypte . . . " (Exode 7. 19)
Pharaon a refusé d'obéir à l'ordre de Dieu transmis par Moïse et de laisser partir les
Hébreux et l'Eternel se voit obligé de le punir, lui et son peuple, en envoyant sur
l'Egypte dix plaies qui, seules, arriveront à bout de l'obstination du souverain.
Moïse, accompagné par Aaron, sera chargé d'annoncer à Pharaon chaque nouveau
malheur qui va s'abattre sur celui-ci, et aussi d'en appeler l'exécution. Son bâton
devra donner le signal de l'accomplissement de chaque plaie.
Avant d'envoyer la première plaie, l'Eternel s'adresse à Moïse et lui demande de
charger Aaron d'étendre son bâton sur les eaux du Nil pour que celles-ci se
changent en sang. On peut se demander pourquoi cette mission n'a pas été confiée à
Moïse lui-même ? Qu'avait-il donc besoin d'être remplacé par son frère dans cette
tâche ?
Nos Sages déjà se sont posés la question et ils nous fournissent la réponse à leur
interrogation. Ils nous font remarquer que Moïse était uni au Nil par des liens très
intimes; c'est sur le Nil qu'il fut exposé dans un panier en osier dès sa naissance,
c'est le Nil qui l'a abrité au milieu de ses roseaux jusqu'au moment où la fille de
Pharaon l'a recueilli. C'est le Nil qui lui a sauvé la vie et Moïse, de ce fait, avait une
immense dette de reconnaissance envers ce fleuve.
II ne pouvait, de gaieté de cœur, être la cause d'une plaie qui allait frapper, avant
tout, les eaux de ce fleuve en les transformant en sang. II ne se sentait pas en état,
lui, d'étendre son bâton sur le Nil pour le punir, étant donné les sentiments de
gratitude que contenait son cœur envers son bienfaiteur.
Aussi l'Eternel, comprenant parfaitement et encourageant même les sentiments de
Moïse, n'a-t-il pas voulu poser à celui ci un problème de conscience et a-t-il chargé
Aaron d'exécuter un ordre qui aurait trop pesé à son frère.
Si, vis-à-vis d'objets inanimés qui ne peuvent ni souffrir ni éprouver aucun
sentiment, il nous faut agir avec délicatesse, combien plus devons nous nous
conduire avec cœur envers des êtres de chair et de sang qui, eux, pourraient être
affectés par notre comportement. Combien plus, en particulier, devons-nous savoir
leur manifester notre gratitude pour les services qu'ils nous ont rendus.

‫בסיום הפרשה הקודמת (שמות) מוצגת טענתו הקשה של משה "למה הרעות לעם‬
‫הזה‪ ."...‬הקב"ה עונה למשה כי בקרוב יראה את יד ה' החזקה‪ .‬ה' עומד לקיים את‬
‫בריתו עם האבות‪ .‬עתה כשזעקתם של בני‪-‬ישראל הגיעה השמימה‪ ,‬תשועתם תמהר‬
‫לבוא‪.‬‬
‫משה ממהר לומר את הדברים לבני‪-‬ישראל‪ ,‬אולם הם אינם מקבלים אותם "מקוצר‬
‫רוח ומעבודה קשה"‪.‬‬
‫הקב"ה שב ושולח את משה לפגוש את פרעה ולצוות עליו להוציא את בני‪-‬ישראל‬
‫ממצרים‪ .‬משה מצטנע וטוען כי אם בני‪-‬ישראל לא מקבלים את דבריו איך יוכל‬
‫שכנע את פרעה‪ ,‬המלך הקשה והרשע‪.‬‬
‫בעקבות טענתו של משה‪ ,‬כמו בעבר‪ ,‬מצרף ה' אל השליחות את אהרון אחיו של‬
‫משה‪.‬‬
‫משפחת בני לוי (ו‪ ,‬יד‪-‬כז)‬
‫משה ואהרון גיבורי ספר שמות‪ ,‬ולכן התורה מקדישה קובץ פסוקים כדי להציג את‬
‫ייחוסם ומשפחתם‪ .‬כהקדמה‪ ,‬אנו לומדים בקצרה גם על משפחות שבט ראובן‬
‫ושמעון הקודמים ללוי‪.‬‬
‫משה ואהרון הם אם‪-‬כן נכדים ונינים ללוי‪ .‬נכדים‪ ,‬שכן אמם יוכבד היא ביתו של לוי‬
‫שנולדה ביום הגעת יעקב ובניו למצרים‪ .‬ונינים‪ ,‬בגלל אביהם עמרם‪ ,‬בנו של קהת בן‬
‫לוי‪.‬‬
‫שליחות משותפת (ו‪ ,‬כח‪-‬ל ‪ -‬ז‪ ,‬א‪-‬ז)‬
‫אם‪-‬כן‪ ,‬משה טוען כי אינו יכול לייצג בעצמו את הקב"ה לפני בני‪-‬ישראל ולפני‬
‫פרעה היות והוא "ערל שפתים" ‪ -‬מתקשה בדיבור‪ .‬הקב"ה כתשובה‪ ,‬מחלק את‬
‫השליחות בינו ובין אהרון‪ .‬הוא מיידע אותם מראש‪ ,‬כי פרעה הרשע לא יסכים‬
‫להוציא את ישראל מארצו‪ ,‬ולכן ה' יוסיף ויקשה את ליבו עוד‪ ,‬כדי שעונשו‪ ,‬המכות‬
‫שיביא ה' עליו‪ ,‬על עמו ועל ארצו יהיו קשות ביותר‪.‬‬
‫משה ואהרון מקבלים על‪-‬עצמם את השליחות‪ .‬משה בן שמונים שנה ואהרון אחיו בן‬
‫שמונים ושלוש שנים‪.‬‬
‫מופת התנין (ז‪ ,‬ח‪-‬יג)‬
‫משה ואהרון מתייצבים שוב לפני פרעה‪ .‬כמופת הוכחה לאמיתות שליחותם‪ ,‬משליך‬
‫אהרון את מטהו לפני פרעה‪ ,‬כך על‪-‬פי הוראת ה'‪ ,‬והמטה הופך לתנין‪ .‬פרעה המוקף‬
‫במכשפים אינו מתרשם‪ ,‬ומצווה על מכשפיו לעשות מופת דומה‪ .‬המופת אכן מצליח‪,‬‬

NBA ALL STAR CAMP
NBA All-Star Camp, in conjunction with Manhattan Sephardic Congregation, is a first-of-its
kind basketball camp that harnesses the power and passion of competitive team sports for
Jewish education. Be part of the very first professionally run, Jewish basketball camp and
help raise vital funds to secure Jewish continuity.
The camp creates an opportunity for players in grades 1st-8th to learn the concepts of
basketball and develop their game. The clinic allows players to fine-tune all aspects of their
game while emphasizing each player’s core fundamentals: shooting, passing, ball handling,
rebounding, one on one moves and defensive skills.

Helping the Family of One of the
Victims of the Paris Terror Attacks.
Philippe Braham is one of the 4 victims of the “Hyper Casher” killing on Friday. He
was in his early 40s and leaves behind a spouse, Valerie, and 3 children aged 8, 2 &
a toddler. Valerie was bringing the children up and wasn’t working. Let’s show
them our solidarity and help her not having to worry about material considerations
for now.

And Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods (7:12)
G-d said: "If Aaron's serpent will swallow up the serpents of the Egyptians, there
will be nothing remarkable in that, for serpents usually swallow each other.
Therefore let it resume its original form and swallow up their serpents."
The Torah's "ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace" (Proverbs
3:17) -- our task is to create light, not to battle darkness. Nevertheless, there are
times when we are forced to resort to battle, when we must vanquish those who
seek to vanquish us. Thus Moses, the gentle shepherd of Israel, and Aaron, the
ultimate man of peace, find themselves in the role of "judge and chastiser of
Pharaoh," crushing the might of Egypt and obliterating its icons and myths.
Therein lies the lesson to be derived from the fact that Aaron's rod swallowed the
"serpents of the Egyptians" after it had reverted back to its original form, rather
than as a serpent itself. For even when he wages war, the Jew is not a warrior. Even
when he consumes the serpents of the enemy, he is not a serpent himself, spewing
poison and hate. His instrument of vengeance is as devoid of vengeful feeling as a
petrified rod, as cold to the rage of war as a lifeless stick.
