A Message from the Director
The Hampton Bays Public Library will hold its annual budget vote on Tuesday, August 12,
2014 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm in the Helen Gould Meeting Room. Detailed copies of the
proposed budget will be mailed to all district residents and may be obtained in the library
by July 29 and at our Budget Information Hearing on August 5, 2014.
In April, as part of National Library Week, we asked patrons to tell us how the library has
changed your life. You told us in so many ways that You Love Your Library! Now we are
asking for a bit more information. Enclosed in this newsletter is a 5-minute survey. We
hope that you and members of your household will take time to fill one out so that we can
better serve you in the future. Also included in this mailing is the Friends of the Library Annual Membership letter. The Friends help us to fund special programs and purchases with
your membership dues and monies from the Friends Book Store. If you are not currently a
member, please consider joining and become a Friend!
Kudos to the Teen Department who recently held our 2nd Annual Prom Dress Drive. This
year, over fifty young women were able to choose a free dress which enabled them to attend their special event feeling beautiful and without breaking the bank! Thank you to all
who donated dresses and accessories, and to Estelle’s Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale for a
$50 gift certificate.
Congratulations to Library Page Ian Fleury for receiving the 2014
BEST Award, which stands for Bringing Excellence in Service by
Teens. This award is given annually to honor a teen that has made a
significant contribution to library services and is sponsored jointly by
the Young Adult Services Divisions of the Suffolk and Nassau County
Library Associations.

East Hampton, Riverhead and Hampton Bays. Her paintings are also in
the permanent collections of the Patchogue Art Museum, the Hampton
Bays Historical Museum & Preservation Society, and many private collections.
