frequently
asked
questions
what should i wear?
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for all shore
excursions. When you visit places of worship, we recommend
dressing conservatively (no shorts or sleeveless tops), but casual
clothing is perfectly acceptable. Dress in layers and have a jacket
along. Bring an umbrella or raincoat, a hat and sunscreen.
what about meals?
Most tour departures complement the ship’s meal service hours.
In-room dining is available on board.
how will i know what time each tour departs?
The on-board Shore Excursions Order Form in your stateroom
will show departure times. This information will also be printed
on your shore excursion tickets, which you will receive on board.
Approximate tour departure times are posted on our website at
www.hollandamerica.com.
i have a disability. how do i know which tours will best suit
me? will i have a problem (dis)embarking the ship?
Guests with disabilities should inquire in advance whether a
shore excursion will be able to accommodate their needs. We
have graded the Shore Excursions according to the relative level
of activity they entail. The walking icons that appear at
the beginning of each tour description provide a general idea of
the level of activity to expect. Please refer to the “How to Choose
Your Tours” section in this brochure for specific information
on the walking icons. It is important to keep in mind that shore
excursion operators are subject to the laws of their own country
including with respect to accommodating the needs of guests
with disabilities. In most foreign countries, the laws are not as
stringent as those in the United States. Please speak with the
Shore Excursions Office as to whether you can expect to encounter difficulties (dis)embarking the ship in a particular port of call.
In this regard, the decision whether or not to carry or provide
other mobility assistance to a guest and their mobility assistance
device (wheelchair, walker, etc.) up or down a ship’s gangway,
or on or off a tender boat, is at the sole discretion of the Captain,
made based on his evaluation of guest and crew safety.
We encourage you to bring a collapsible wheelchair as space
limitations may restrict the ability of some tour operators to
accommodate motorized mobility aid devices.
i am traveling with friends and we would like to be on the
same motor coach
The departure location for each shore excursion is printed on
your shore excursion tickets. If you wish to travel with friends,
please arrive at the designated meeting place together. This will
enable the staff to allocate space for you on the same vehicle.
tour durations
The individual tour descriptions include approximate durations. To allow our Shore Excursions Managers flexibility
to coordinate your time in port with meals and activities on
the ship, exact departure times are published in the Shore
Excursions Order Form on board. For more information, please
attend the Shore Excursions Presentation or visit the Shore
Excursions Office.
tour descriptions
Tour descriptions may change after printing. Information that
becomes available after this brochure is published will be posted in
the Shore Excursions section of our website, which can be found
online at www.hollandamerica.com. Significant changes will be
noted on the Shore Excursions Order Form on board. Tour
schedules are subject to change.

What fascinates you? A cooking class with a local
chef? A private car, complete with driver and guide,
so you can explore near or far? A chance to encounter wildlife or view natural wonders up close?
The Collections of Holland America Line represent
a small subset of the shore excursions you will find
in this brochure. Each collection offers its own
particular focus and is available only in select ports.
the collections
of Holland
America Line
Medallion Collection
A series of exclusive experiences designed to
accommodate our most discerning guests, our
Medallion Collection tours are each carefully
chosen to provide an in-depth perspective. They
offer unparalleled access to events and sights not normally readily
available. First-class style, smaller groups, multi-day Overland
Adventures—elite activities for a privileged few.
Encore Collection
Been there, done that? Think again. Our Encore
Collection, designed especially for repeat guests,
lets you discover what lies beyond the wellknown attractions you’ve already seen. Barbecue
with Argentine gauchos, bike the tree-lined boulevards of
Barcelona, ride an Icelandic pony across a windswept beach near
Reykjavik. These tours showcase hidden gems, unusual angles
and inside stories that will bring you back time and again.
World Wonders Collection
Natural treasures, architectural marvels,
technical wonders: to the Seven Wonders of
the World we add our own nominations based
on decades of leadership in global travel—the
sandstone city of Petra, the moai statues of Easter Island, and the
Great Wall of China, among others. What they have in common
is the ability to inspire awe.
Cruise with Purpose Collection
For every global citizen who has ever dreamed
of either giving back or paying it forward, the
innovative Cruise with Purpose Collection is quite
simply about improving our planet one voyage at
a time. Assist in scientific research, bring much-needed supplies to
an orphanage, participate in a fair trade scheme or cultural
exchange, replant native forest or restore fragile habitat—your
footprint will be light and your soul enriched.
Signature Collection
This exclusive touring option for independentminded travelers lets you completely customize
and maximize your time ashore by reserving
private transportation (along with an Englishspeaking driver and guide) in advance. Whether you travel by car
or minivan, customized boat, classic floatplane or stretch SUV
limousine, you choose the companions, sights and pace that
perfectly suit you.
to whom is the signature collection suited? The Signature
Collection is for solo travelers, couples, families, friends and
special interest groups traveling together. This may also be an
excellent choice for non-ambulatory guests. Value and flexibility
are just two of the advantages of first-class touring and luxury
transportation. Privacy, comfort, safety, and personalized guide
service are also yours to enjoy.
about the transportation: Each type of transportation will
be of the highest grade available in that port. Not all modes of
transportation are available in all locations. For information
about the transportation sizes and availability, please see our
website at www.hollandamerica.com.
pricing: The cost of each type of transportation will be published
online at www.hollandamerica.com.
also included: The cost includes the service of a driver and English-
speaking guide, unlimited mileage, road tolls, parking fees and
bottled water.
not included (unless otherwise noted): Guests’ entrance fees
for attractions are not included in the price due to the wide range
of attraction possibilities, uncertain number of attractions to be
visited, and varying number of guests participating. We strongly
recommend that you bring some local currency to cover such
costs as credit cards are not readily accepted in some ports. Lunch
will not be included on any tour as many guests prefer to select
their own dining venue.
itinerary planning: If you need help planning your personal
itinerary, the Port Lecturer and/or Shore Excursions Manager
can assist you and will gladly answer your questions. This can
be very helpful in many destinations where travel time, location,
holidays, and opening hours of attractions need to be taken into
consideration in order to maximize the efficiency of your time
ashore.
online reservations: The fastest and easiest way for you to
reserve and pay for your Signature Collection experience is
on the Holland America Line website. Visit us online at www.
hollandamerica.com. Please note the cost will be per mode of
transportation (not per person), so only one person in the party
needs to make the reservation. The price shown on the website
is the total cost for the transportation, driver and guide (not a
per-person price). In many ports, availability is extremely limited.
Please reserve as early as possible.
payment & tour vouchers: Your credit card will be charged
after your reservation is confirmed. Next, start planning what
you’ll do with your Signature Collection experience in each port.
On board the ship, you will be given a form to advise the Shore
Excursions Office of the itinerary you have chosen.
booking on board: The Signature Collection may be available for
booking once you are on the ship, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Please check with the Shore Excursions Office on board.
disembarking the ship: In some disembarkation ports, a private
vehicle and guide can be used for sightseeing en route to the
airport. When booking, please advise the total amount of luggage
for your party. Size of vehicle and luggage space may limit the
number of guests in the vehicle.

Stavanger, Norway - Monday, May 18, 2015:
Cobblestone streets wind past colorful houses in this delightful
town. In nearby Lysefjord, be sure to visit oft-photographed Pulpit Rock.
Lysefjord: Pulpit Rock Cruise
Departs: 8:00 am, Noon
Approximately 3 hours
Adult $124.95; Child $64.95
Cruise through the Stavanger Archipelago
for an overview of how the Norwegians live
in this area, with plenty of small idyllic
islands and many holiday homes by the sea. A
guide will accompany you and point out
various attractions along the way. In splendid
Lysefjord, you will discover one of Norway’s
spectacular natural wonders—Pulpit Rock.
This promontory juts more than 1,500 feet
above the sea, and you will cruise directly
under it. In this beautiful fjord, the water
around you is as deep as the mountains are
high. You will stop en route in idyllic
surroundings for a snack of coffee and
waffles, served in traditional Norwegian style
with sour cream and jam.
Notes:
Restroom facilities are available on the boat
and at the refreshment stop. On some calls at
Stavanger the cruise ship sails into Lysefjord
but does not offer the same close encounter
with Pulpit Rock that is the highlight of this
tour.

de Stavanger
Departs: 11:30 am
Approximately 3 Hours
Adult $99.95; Child $39.95

beperkt aantal plaatsen beschikbaar. Boek
daarom op tijd om teleurstellingen te
voorkomen.

Stavanger Old & New
Stavanger & Surroundings
Departs: 8:45 am
Approximately 4 hours
Adult $99.95; Child $39.95
Stavanger—Norway's fourth-largest city—is
a charming blend of old and new. Towards
the end of the 18th century, Stavanger
became a leading commercial and industrial
town. The herring fisheries and canneries
flourished, as did the shipbuilding industry.
Today the oil industry activities play a leading
part inside and outside the town. Start your
excursion by driving along the Dirdal River
and the lush Dirdal Valley to a rebuilt cheese
factory dating from 1920. Byrkjedalstunet
houses a restaurant, a candle-maker’s
workshop and other stores. Traditional lapper
(thick pancakes) with jam and sour cream
are served, and afterwards there is time to
browse and make some purchases if you like.
Continue by bus to the nearby
Gloppedalsuren—Norway's largest field of
boulders. Some of these remarkable stones
are literally as big as houses. Then you will
head through a pretty rural area en route
back to Stavanger, where you will tour the
main sights of the city from the comfort of
your coach. You can join your guide for an
optional walk through the cobblestone streets
of Old Stavanger before returning to the ship.
Departs: 9:00 am
Approximately 4 hours
Adult $149.95; Child $49.95
Stavanger and its surroundings have played a
leading role in Norway’s history for centuries.
See the Sword in the Rock Monument. It is
comprised of three Viking swords forced into
the ground, stands more than 30 feet tall, and
commemorates the place where Viking King
Harald Haarfagre (Fairhair) defeated the last
of the regional princes in AD 872 and
founded the Kingdom of Norway by uniting
the 29 small kingdoms under one crown.
You’ll pass rich agricultural countryside
before arriving at an Iron Age farm. Here,
the living conditions from 1,500 years ago
have been recreated. The farm itself is
situated in an area with burial mounds from
the Bronze Age as well as from the time of the
Vikings. At the Archeological Museum, you
will be met by a guide in Viking-era costume.
(S)he will lead you through the museum and
demonstrate the use of selected Viking tools.
And now, back to the 21st century! The
Petroleum Museum is a striking building
characterized by interactive experiences and
lots of hands-on interactive exhibits,
complete with demonstrations of how oil
forms. There are exhibitions on land as well
as simulated mini-platforms. A walk out to
these installations enables you to catch a
glimpse of ‘offshore’ life in the North Sea.
Before you return to the ship, stroll through
Old Stavanger and past the charming,
picturesque, well-preserved wooden houses
in narrow lanes that date back to the 18th and
19th centuries. The houses were originally
built for seaman, craftsmen and businessmen.
Conservation of Old Stavanger is today
considered the city's most important project.
Utstein Monastery, Music Recital
& Refreshments
Departs: 9:45 am
Approximately 3 hours
Adult $139.95; Child $39.95
Visit Norway's best-preserved medieval
monastery. You’ll travel via underwater
tunnel to Moster Island—a bucolic haven of
green fields and grazing cows and sheep.
Located on Moster Island, Utstein Kloster
(monastery) was founded in the 13th century.
Take a guided tour of the graceful cloisters
and enjoy a music recital in the monastery.
Centuries-old beech trees shade the
monastery's beautiful grounds. Refreshments
will be served during the tour. Return to
Stavanger, where you have the option of
heading directly to the ship by motor coach
or exploring the old port's narrow,
cobblestone lanes on foot to view 18th- and
early 19th-century wooden houses.
bewaard is gebleven.

Flam, Norway - Tuesday, May 19, 2015:
Flåm's villages and farms perch on steep slopes above gleaming
waterways.
Best of Flam
Departs: 9:30 am
Approximately 7¼ hours
Adult $299.95; Child $109.95
This tour covers the highlights of the
Aurlandsfjord region. Leave the idyllic
village of Flåm at the head of Aurlandsfjord
by train on one of the most spectacular
railroad journeys in Norway. The line is only
12 miles long; however, the journey lasts
around 50 minutes because it climbs from 15
feet above sea level to 2,844 feet at Myrdal
Station, situated on the main line between
Oslo and Bergen. The train proceeds very
slowly at the most scenic parts. At the
Kjosfoss Waterfall you can leave the train for
a few minutes to take photographs. You’ll
change trains at Myrdal Station and continue
on the main line, passing through the
Gravhalsen Tunnel and down the Raundalen
Valley to Voss. Voss is a well-known tourist
resort, in both summer and winter, with an
attractive setting near Vangs Lake. Here you
will have some free time to explore the village
before lunch. After lunch, your journey
continues by coach, stopping at the Tvinde
Waterfall cascading down the mountainside.
Pass Oppheim Lake and reach the Stalheim
Hotel, which perches on a cliff overlooking
the Nærøy Valley far below. Brace yourself
for the serpentine bends of the
Stalheimskleivane—the steepest road in
Norway—skirting the Sivle and the Stalheim
Waterfalls. Reaching the valley floor, you will
follow the Nærøy River to Gudvangen on
Nærøyfjord. From here it is a relatively short
drive back to Flåm, although most of the
route will be inside the mountain. There are
two tunnels—the first is 6.8 miles long; the
second approximately three miles long. Soon
you will see Aurlandsfjord ahead, where your
ship awaits you.
Notes:
The railway stations are open-air and have no
facilities. The Flåm train is not exclusive to
Holland America Line guests.

Approximately 3 hours
Adult $122.95; Child $49.95
A motor coach and your guide are waiting to
take you on a trip along the fjord to the
village of Aurland—a typical fjord village that
is still steeped in tradition. The old church
from the 13th century is the village’s focal
point. From Aurland, you’ll drive inland and
along the Aurland River—well known for its
salmon fishing. Continue up the beautiful
Aurland Valley, which is very rich in flora
and fauna. Your destination is Osterbø
Mountain Farm, which was permanently
inhabited up until the late 1920s. At that
time, the farm was completely cut off from
the rest of the world during the winter—from
six to eight months of the year. Fortunately,
in summer it is much more accessible and
today, at Osterbø, you will relax over a snack
of coffee and waffles with jam and sour
cream. Having enjoyed your refreshment, it’s
time to return to Flåm .
Flam-spoorlijn (zonder gids)
Departs: 10:45 am, Noon
Approximately 2½ Hours
Adult $99.95; Child $44.95

station duurt ongeveer 15 minuten. Deze toer

reizigers die zelfstandig erop uit willen
trekken.
Kayaking on Aurlandsfjord
Departs: Noon
Approximately 3 hours
Adult $169.95; Child $104.95
Kayaking is a very popular way to experience
the nature, scenery and the tranquility of
Aurlandsfjord and Flåm. As you paddle
along the fjord you will see mountain farms
that cling to the hillside, and farm animals
such as goats and sheep that graze alarmingly
close to the edge of the fjord. This is the
perfect excursion for experienced and firsttime kayakers, as it features beautiful scenery.
Notes:
Tour operates rain or shine, but may be
cancelled by the operator in the event of
extremely bad weather or unsuitable
conditions. Wear your swimwear under your
clothing, and low-heeled shoes with non-skid
soles. Although this tour does not require
previous kayaking experience, all participants
must be competent swimmers and in good
physical condition. Guests with back or neck
injuries and those who are pregnant or have
epilepsy or another medical condition that is
triggered by the cold should not participate in
this tour. Dress warmly in layers; the
temperature on the fjord rarely exceeds 64
degrees F. You will be kayaking on the fjord
for approximately 1½ hours. Minimum age is
7 years.
Stalheim & Tvinde Waterfalls
The Flam Railway
Departs: 9:15 am
Approximately 3½ hours
Adult $139.95; Child $49.95
Departs: 9:30 am, 1:15 pm
Approximately 3¼ hours
Adult $144.95; Child $89.95
Start your tour from the pier in Flåm, driving
through tunnels connecting Flåm with the
village of Gudvangen. At the fashionable
Stalheim Hotel, some 1,237 feet above sea
level, you will learn that there has been an inn
at this location since the 1640s. The old
Stalheim Hotel was damaged by fire and the
present hotel was built in 1960. It is furnished
with an intriguing combination of modern
Scandinavian furniture and antiques. Browse
in the souvenir shop, which stocks a wide
range of Norwegian souvenirs and
handicrafts. Savor a cup of coffee or tea and
a pastry, and take a walk outside to enjoy the
beautiful view of the valley far below. View
the privately owned folk museum at Stalheim
(from the outside); then re-board your motor
coach and descend the thirteen hairpin bends
of the steep Stalheimskleiva Road down to
the narrow and impressive Næroydalen
Valley. You will pass many waterfalls, as well
as the villages of Oppheim and Vinje,
Oppheim Lake and the Stalheim and Sivle
Waterfalls before stopping to take a look at
the Tvinde falls. The name Tvinde comes
from an old Norse word and means ‘double’
or ‘two’. The stone fences in the Næroy
Valley protect the farm buildings from
pressure of the snow and stone slides that
occur during the winter. Arriving in
Gudvangen you will once more drive through
the mountain tunnel mountain back to Flåm .
Flåm is located in the innermost part of the
127-mile-long Sognefjord. Embark the Flåm
Railway—a masterpiece of engineering
climbing from sea level to 2,800 feet, crossing
back and forth over rivers and through 20
tunnels. At the overwhelming Kjosfossen
Waterfall, you can leave the train to take
some pictures. Leave the train again at
Vatnahalsen and walk the approximately 300
feet to the Vatnahalsen Mountain Hotel.
Coffee or tea and homemade waffles with
sour cream and jam have been prepared for
you. Relax and feel free to walk around in the
beautiful natural surroundings. After 60 to 90
minutes, you’ll re-board the train for the
return ride to Flåm.
Notes:

Ålesund is one of the few Art Nouveau
towns left in the world. This lovely and
unique coastal city can best be enjoyed on
foot. A knowledgeable guide will escort you
through the winding streets, pointing out the
many colorful details of the buildings. You
will soon discover some interesting details
about both the buildings and the town’s
history. A catastrophic fire in 1904 left the
town in ashes and 10,000 people homeless.
The city was rebuilt in Art Nouveau or
Jugend style with provisions and building
materials from all over Europe. Visit the Art
Nouveau Style Center for a fascinating
insight into Art Nouveau through authentic
interiors and objects, as well as captivating
multimedia program called From Ashes to Art
Nouveau. You can experience the city fire via
film and photographs, and impressive sound
and light effects. Coffee and cake are served
in the café before you walk back to the pier.
The coastal city of Ålesund, with a
population of 41,000, is the commercial
capital of the More-Romsdal District. The
city boasts one of Norway’s largest fishing
harbors, with a rich and lively history behind
it, including a devastating fire in 1904 which
gave rise to a popular expression of surprise
in Norway: "I haven’t heard anything like that
since Ålesund burned down." The fire left
10,000 people homeless and destroyed the
whole city center. Ålesund was rebuilt in Art
Nouveau style with building materials from
all over Europe. It is now one of very few Art
Nouveau towns in the world, and inhabitants
and visitors alike value its atmosphere and
distinctive character. Travel from the pier
through the center of the town with its
amazing decorations and colorful façades,
then to the Sunnmore Open-Air Folk
Museum to view some of the old houses and
the boat collection. You’ll return to Ålesund
and end the tour with a drive up to Mount
Aksla, high above the city center. There is a
splendid view of the town, the skerries and
right across to the Sunnmore Mountains.
Notes:
Participants must be able to walk the full tour
and be on their feet for 2½ hours. There is
some climbing during the walk and there are
steps inside the Art Nouveau Center. Tour
operates subject to a minimum requirement
and may not be available on all sailings.

Tour Ålesund’s famous Art Nouveau district
and take a drive up Mount Aksla for a
spectacular view of the city, the islands and
the Sunnmore Mountains. Then, you will
head out of town to the Atlantic Sea Park
situated along the oceanfront at Tueneset.
The park occupies 1½ acres of coastal scenery
with fishing spots, hiking trails, swimming
sites and outstanding diving venues. The
Atlantic Sea Park contains exhibition space
and is the largest aquarium in Scandinavia.
It is uniquely built into coastal surroundings
and adapted to modern exhibition principles.
Large landscape aquariums teem with life
direct from the ocean, with an emphasis on
the western regions. You can see what the
marine life is like under the ferry quay, in the
ocean current, between islets and skerries,
and in the depths of the Storfjorden. Enjoy
watching the huge fish and discover the
‘silver of the sea.'
beroemde Vikingkoning Gangerolv, of Rollo,
die in 911 Normandië heeft veroverd en die
de voorouder van Willem de Veroveraar was.
Met deze gezaghebbende families was het
eiland een belangrijke machtszetel in de tijd
van de Vikingen. Nadat u langs de kapel van
Giske (een Romeinse marmeren kerk uit
1135) bent gereden, zet u koers naar het
eiland Godøy om het charmante
vissersdorpje Alnes aan de Atlantische kust te
bezoeken.
aangrijpende verhaal hoe Ålesund in 1904

Your tour starts with a short city sightseeing
of Ålesund's Art Nouveau quarter. Ålesund's
architectural character is the legacy of the
great fire in 1904, as the city was rebuilt
according to the vogue of the day. A drive up
to Mount Aksla follows, for a beautiful view
of the city, the islands and the Sunnmøre
Mountains. Leaving Ålesund, you will drive
through some of the world's longest submarine tunnels connecting the islands to the
mainland. The island of Giske is known as
the birthplace of the famous Viking King
Gangerolv, or Rollo, who conquered
Normandy in AD 911 and was the ancestor of
William the Conqueror. With its powerful
families, the island was a seat of power in the
Viking Age. Pass the Giske Chapel a very
simple and starkly beautiful Roman marble
church dating from 1135. The church was
built as a private place of worship for the
famous Giske Viking family and its interior
was restored in 1756. It is surrounded by old
headstones and a manicured lawn. Next, you

Trondheim is one of Norway's oldest cities
and was founded by Viking King Olav
Tryggvason in AD 997. The city is situated at
the estuary of the River Nid, facing the wide
Trondheimsfjord. Walk along the river,
savoring Trondheim’s village-like atmosphere
and its ancient and modern architecture.
You’ll cross the market square with the
statue of the founder of the city. Continue
past the Nidaros Cathedral and the
Archbishop's palace, dating back to the
Middle Ages. Passing through the
rehabilitated Old Town called Bakklandet,
you’ll admire the many picturesque, wooden
houses painted in vivid colors. Here small
cafés and pubs sit next exclusive restaurants.
Watch for the bicycle elevator—a unique
piece of fascinating technology that gives bike
riders a welcome (and free!) push up a steep
hill. Towards the river, you'll see the old
drawbridge, painted bright red, and head
down the street along the riverbank with
views over to the old warehouses lining it.
On your way to Ringve Museum today, you
will pass through Trondheim’s streets and
stop at the Nidaros Cathedral for a visit
inside. A splendid Gothic structure dating
back to the 12th century, this impressive
church is built over the grave of St Olaf and
boasts gorgeous stained-glass windows.
Continue to the Ringve Museum, Norway’s
only specialized museum for musical
instruments. It is situated on a hill
overlooking the fjord, and is surrounded by
botanical gardens with beautiful old trees and
plants. The manor house, built in the 1860s,
with its rare interiors, is a lovely setting for
part of the collection. In another building you
will find fine treasures from the European
history of music, and 2,000 exotic
instruments from all over the world. The
guides at the museum are music students and
will give demonstrations of some of the
instruments on display. There will be time for
shopping in the museum shop and a walk in
the beautiful gardens before you return to the
city. The motor coach will stop at a viewpoint
so you can enjoy the panorama of Trondheim
and take some photos.

Market Square, you’ll see the impressive
statue of King Olaf, who founded the city and
converted the people of Norway to
Christianity. Visit the Nidaros Cathedral,
started in 1070 and destroyed several times by
fire, but the oldest parts still standing date
from the 12th century. The church is richly
ornamented in stone and has magnificent
stained-glass windows. Continue through the
city to Sverresli, where you’ll be treated to
excellent views of the fjord, the city and the
surrounding countryside. With a stop at the
open-air Trondelag Open-Air Folk Museum

from all over the area, which provide an
authentic cross-section of Norwegian life and
architecture.
Transfer by bus to the city center, where
you’ll step aboard the Gråkall line streetcar, a
five-mile line opened in 1924. The line runs
from the city center to Lian, located on

third-largest city, viewing several picturesque
old wooden houses painted in vivid colors.

poolzee uittorent.
natuur. Het verhaal van de mensen wordt
verteld in prachtige beelden en muziek. Neem

Watch for reindeer on your transfer to the
North Cape today. As you set out from
Honningsvåg, you’ll quickly see that a barren
landscape is the hallmark of the windswept
Arctic Circle where the vegetation appears
sparse indeed. To the botanist, however, it is
quite plentiful, with 200 species of plants
growing here. The drive to the North Cape
will be about 45 minutes. The North Cape
itself is an enormous rock with a steep wall
climbing more than 1,000 feet from the
Arctic Ocean below. At a latitude of 71º, 10’
north, the North Cape is remarkably civilized,
with a post office, chapel, bar and restaurant.
And, at the North Cape Hall, you’ll find a
shopping area and a 180º wide-screen
cinema. A spectacular 14-minute audio-visual

Herdal Mountain Farm
Departs: 8:45 am
Approximately 3½ hours
Adult $164.95; Child $124.95
Visit Herdalsetra, the largest mountain farm
still in use in Norway. It is situated on a
plateau 1,650 feet above sea level and has
been running continuously for more than 300
years. Departing Geiranger, your coach will
climb the exciting Eagle Road with its 11
hairpin bends before stopping at the Eagle
Bend (weather permitting) for a spectacular
view of the Pulpit, the Seven Sisters Waterfall,
and your cruise ship anchored below.
Reaching the mountain summit, you will
drive through high snow-covered mountains
and lovely green valleys before reaching
Ytterdal (Eidsdal) on Storfjord. Storfjord
(meaning the big fjord) is the main fjord of
which Geirangerfjord is a part. There you will
find Norway's northernmost orchard, where
even summer fruits such as apricots grow.
From Ytterdal, you will climb to one of the
many summer mountain farms in the
area—the Herdalsetra. Summer farms usually
operate from early June until the end of
August. Herdalsetra Farm, with its 30 farm
buildings, is located 1,500 feet above sea level
and had no road connecting it to civilization
until 1960. The main product from the farm
is brown and white cheese made from goats’
milk. During your guided tour of the farm,
you will get to know the people who work the
farm and befriend a goat or two. The
traditions of summer farming in these
mountains and the production process are
very interesting. There are more than 400
goats here as well as cows, sheep and
Norwegian ponies. Enjoy samples of the
various products such as goat cheese and
caramels produced on the farm. Return to
Geiranger along the same route, once more
enjoying the spectacular scenery.
approximately 250 yards from the pier. You
will paddle along the steep fjord walls and
admire the reflection of the cliffs in the waters
below—no kayaking experience is required.
Watch for charming little farms perched on
rocky ledges, where children and animals
have to be tied off so they don’t fall off the
steep cliffs. The Seven Sisters and other
cascading waterfalls are truly magnificent and
kayaking is one of the best ways to experience
nature’s overwhelming beauty in
Geirangerfjord.

physical condition and must be able to swim.
Those with back or neck problems are not
allowed to participate. Waiver must be signed

Until 1830, commerce and shipping were key
in Bergen, and one of the four major
Hanseatic trading offices was located here.
Your tour starts with a drive along the
German pier with its wooden buildings with
pointed gables, now a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. You will see how the people of
Bergen live today with a brief city tour
including Nordnes Peninsula, which bisects
the harbor. Take a funicular ride up to
Mount Fløien, 1,200 feet above sea level.
From the top you can enjoy a magnificent
view of Bergen and the surroundings. As you
return to the lower funicular station, your
tour continues on foot to the famous Fish &

buildings and alleyways of the Bryggen
Wharf—a scene straight out of the Middle

was gevestigd. Uw rondleiding start met een
ritje langs de Duitse kade waar houten huizen

Hardangerfjord is without doubt one of
Norway’s favorite fjords. It is framed by
mountains that peer into the water to catch a
glimpse of their own beautiful reflection.
Leaving from the ship in Bergen, you will
pass the Fortress of Bergenhus, King
Hakon’s Hall and the Rosenkrantz Tower.
Watch for the gabled buildings of the
Hanseatic period and the fish market. The
scenery quickly changes as you leave the city
behind. Passing through the community of
Os, you will cross Fusafjord by ferry. Look
out for the lovely views across Bjørnefjord
with islands and snow-capped mountains in
the distance. Venjaneset, on the opposite side,
is the first of many small communities you
will see, complete with typical west coast
scenery. You will reach the tiny wooden
church at Holdhus—a distinctive landmark
dating back to the days of the old stave
churches. At Mundheim, the road links up
with the Hardangerfjord. Norwegians call
this the Queen of the Fords. Why? See for
yourself as you take a one-hour drive along
its shores with views to the majestic
mountains on the opposite side. On a clear
day, you’ll glimpse the Folgefonna Glacier,
the third-largest glacier in Norway. Orchards
wearing springtime wreaths of blossoms
bedeck the fjord in brilliant color. Break for
lunch (a typical Norwegian buffet with hot
and cold dishes, desserts and coffee) along the
way. You’ll also stop at the Steinsdal

Fusafjord over.

Rotterdam, The Netherlands - Saturday, May 30, 2015:
Often called the gateway to Europe, the port
city of Rotterdam is full of old-world charm. The harbor offers amazing views and a maze of wharves and canals, along with towering spires
make for a beautiful sight. Take a stroll and duck into one of the pubs or eateries along the way.
Only three pre World War II buildings in the city center have survived and are worth a look - city hall, St. Laurence church and the White
House. Explore the Museum Boymans van Beuningen, which houses a unique collection dating from the 14th century, or the Museum Voor
Volkenkunde - home to ethnological exhibits. Exquisite architecture can be seen in many areas of Rotterdam, most notably in the
Delfshaven quarter of the city - where 18th century houses are on display. For a laugh, check out Kijk-Kubus, an upside-down house.

Windmills of Kinderdijk with
Airport Transfer
Departs: 8:00 am
Approximately 4 hours
Price $119.95
The windmills of Kinderdijk, built in the
1700s, are collectively a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. The name of this charming
village comes from the time of the St
Elisabeth flood in 1421, when the villagers
found a baby (kind) on the dike (dijk). The 19
windmills that remain intact today are lined
up along the riverfront, and were used to
pump rising water to the canal and thus keep
the village dry. Walk along past the windmills
to see how ingeniously the system works.
You’ll have time for plenty of photos of the
windmills and the countryside; then,
complete your tour with a transfer to
Amsterdam’s airport in time for your flight.
Notes:
This option is available only to guests with
flights departing after 4pm. If you have
already purchased an airport transfer with
your cruise booking, you will be refunded

General Information
guides, services & transportation:
In certain interesting but off-the-beaten-track
places, professional guides and vehicles are at a
premium. The best available are engaged. For
all tours other than the Signature Collection, it
is exceptional for drivers of public hire vehicles
to speak any language but their own and it is
not always possible to obtain air-conditioned
buses or taxis in many ports. However, we
do our utmost to find the very best excursion
packages for your touring pleasure. Guests who
leave during a tour for which transportation
is included must there-after provide for their
own transportation and services at their own
expense. Transportation standards vary from
country to country.
self-guided excursions:
Guests who do not join these prearranged shore
excursions must rely on whatever transportation is available in each port. If you choose to
devise your own excursion, we suggest that you
remind the driver or tour escort of the ship’s
sailing time. Of course, the ship’s facilities are
fully available to guests while in port.
conditions:
Shore excursions are “Non-Holland America
Line Services” for the purposes of your Cruise
Contract. This means that shore excursions are
not owned or operated by Holland America.
Refer to your Cruise Contract for a full statement of your rights and obligations as well
as those of the Owner of the Ship, Holland
America Line Inc. and certain other persons and
entities with respect to Non-Holland America
Line Services. In particular, please note that you
are assuming the entire risk of utilizing NonHolland America Line Services subject only to
whatever terms or arrangements are made by
you or on your behalf with the third party furnishing the Non-Holland America Line Services.
Holland America Line does not assume liability
for injuries or damages that occur during or
as a result of shore excursions, nor is Holland
America Line liable for loss of or damage to any
baggage or other property which occurs ashore,
for any reason whatsoever. Shore excursions
are subject to cancellations or changes. Shore
excursion operators reserve the right to deny
participation to guests based on such criteria as
they may establish. Children under 18 must be
accompanied by a parent or responsible adult
aged 21 or older.
about pricing, refunds & cancellations:
Rates and descriptions are current as of the
printing date. Prices are subject to change without notice and descriptions may vary from the
actual tour provided. All cancellations that are
made less than 5 days prior to cruise departure
are subject to a 10% cancellation fee. There
will be no exceptions. In addition, if you cancel
your tour reservation after the booking deadline
stated in the Shore Excursion Planning Form on
board, or if you cancel a Signature Collection
private vehicle tour, a 100% cancellation fee will
apply since transportation and services will have
already been arranged.
cancellation of overland adventures and
overnight tours:
of cruising or while on board are not covered by
the Cancellation Protection Plan and are subject
to the above penalties. In the event a complete
tour is cancelled by Holland America Line or
the tour operator, pre-booked refunds will
be handled on board. Very shortly after each
booking deadline/cancellation date, e-mails are
sent from the ship to the agencies concerned,
informing them of our definite requirements for
meals, seats on aircraft, number of automobiles
and motor coaches, etc., and commitments are
made. If notice of cancellation is received after
the booking deadline/cancellation date, a refund
can be assured only if the ticket is resold. Guests
are encouraged to pre-purchase shore excursions. We recommend speaking with the Shore
Excursion Manager on board if you have any
questions about your physical ability to take
part in any shore excursion. Should you opt
not to take the tour following this discussion,
full reimbursement will be made provided the
cancellation is made within 24 hours of boarding the ship. For Overland Adventures and
Overnight Tours, due to the in-depth nature of
the adventures, most areas are not accessible to
wheelchairs and require a considerable amount
of activity.
The cancellation policy for Overland Adventures
and Overnight Tours is (with no exceptions):
• 30 days before tour date: 25% penalty
• 14 days before tour date: 50% penalty
• Within 14 days:
non-refundable
Please note that the Cancellation Protection
Plan covers pre-booked Shore Excursions,
including Overland Adventures and Overnight
Tours, if cancellation is made up to 24 hours
prior to commencement of cruise. Tours cancelled within 24 hours prior to commencement
