1. Opening of meeting by Council chair Astrida Kalnins at 11:40 a.m. 95 voting members of the congregation are registered, achieving quorum. A. Kalnins invites Mac. Ilze Kuplens-­‐Ewart to lead the congregation in prayer. Pastor Ilze prays for God’s blessing of this meeting. A. Kalnins then thanks all for attending.
2. Election of vote counters: Valdis Kaulins, Voldemars Innus and Liga Miklasevics are unanimously elected. 3. Approval of agenda:

(i) Financial report
(ii) Supervisory committee report (c) Addition to Resolutions (Atis Bredovskis): Lower AGM quorum to 50 members. (d)Approval of AGM minutes to include 2012 AGM minutes, as well as the 1st 2013 AGM minutes (Feb. 24th). A. Kalnins adds that additional questions may be addressed at the close of the AGM. Motion by A. Kalns to approve agenda. Seconded. Carried.
4. Approval of 2013 AGM minutes: (a) Approval of reports in 2013 AGM minutes (Feb.24th) and questions about the reports: Camp Sidrabene: Anda Libers requests that the following information re: Camp Sidrabene be published in the next DZ newsletter: camp activities, names of leaders, counsellors and other workers. This would not only inform the congregation, but acknowledge all the work and
effort of those involved. This information had already been requested in the last AGM. Futures Committee: A.Libers states that she does not feel that Council has fulfilled the mandate of Futures Committee , i.e. to look at the future of the Church and the congregation, and to prepare information for the congregation. She requests that this be the first item on the agenda of the new council. A. Kalnins answers that this has been completed. Council had a planning session in Sidrabene, and presented the information in 2 Town Hall meetings. A. Libers states that she understood that the Futures Committee would continue to work all year long. A. Kalnins responds that work will continue.
Budget and testamentary bequests: Arija Purvs-­‐Roze asks why there is no report on who has bequeathed money, the amount of the bequests, nor on how the testament funds are invested and used. A. Kalnins answers that the budget is based on operating costs, whereas the testament fund is separate fund. This is something to be addressed by the next Council. (d) Church organ: Arija Purvs-­‐Roze suggests the idea that we have the organ valued, so that if the church is sold, then we have a separate price for the organ, a separate price for the church. Currently the organ is insured for $2,000,000. Motion to approve reports: A. Kalns. Seconded by G. Berzins. Carried.
(b) Additions to Feb. 24th 2013 AGM reports:
(i) Finance committee: I. Vairogs reports that although there was a deficit in the 2012 budget, capital grew by $107,000. The increase was a result of Guntars Kalnins’ generous testamentary bequest ($86,500), Latvian House shares, and an increase in donations of $16,000 over the past year. The 2013 budget will show a deficit. It is hoped that the deficit will decrease. This will depend on the generosity of the members. In order to cover ongoing expenses, I.Vairogs requests that members donate on a regular basis, especially during the summer. Donations decrease significantly during the summer months, creating difficulties in covering expenses. I. Vairogs also requests that cheques written to the church be written in English: St. Andrew’s Ev. Lutheran Latvian Church . The TD Bank does not accept cheques written in Latvian. Motion to approve report: L. Miklasevics. Seconded: M. Vitols. Carried.
(ii) Supervisory committee: V. Zvidris reports that the committee met with treasurer I. Vairogs, administrator S. Gaide, and former treasurer E. Berzins on Feb.21 and Mar.13, 2013 The committee continued its audit via email. The 2012 financial statements were reviewed, including those of the Choir, Ladies’ Auxiliary, Relief for Latvia, Klavas Lapa, Camp Sidrabene, Sidrabene, the Burial Fund, and Testament accounts. All accounts are in good order up until Dec. 31,2012. It is advised that members’ donations to the Eastern Synod, LELBA, the Archbishop’s fund and other initiatives be entered separately in the ledger.

(c) Approval of 2012 AGM minutes: Motion to approve minutes by G. Berzins. Seconded by I.Keon. Carried. Approval of Feb. 24th 2013 AGM minutes: Pastor Ilze thanks the recorders for the detailed 2013 AGM minutes. Motion to approve minutes: Dr. I. Ezers. Seconded: M. Vitols. Carried.
5. Resolutions: (i) To change the minimum number of Council members from 15 to 12: This change is required to more easily achieve quorum at Council meetings. An uneven number is not required. Pastor Ilze explains that anticipated legislation, not expected to be in effect before 2014 at the earliest, will set out new governance structures for the Boards of not-­‐for-­‐
profit organizations. Until then we can change the number of Council members as required. Resolution: Until such time as the latest Not for Profit Corporations’ Act Ontario comes into force, the minimum number of members of the congregational council shall be 12, each elected for a three-­‐year term, with no fewer than one third of the members retiring each year. Retiring members of the congregational council may be re-­‐elected. D. Stripnieks asks if all the present Council members were elected at the same time. L. Miklaševica explains that present Council members were elected in various years and that typically 4 or more members are up for replacement every year. Motion to approve resolution: E. Berzins. Seconded by R. Apse. Carried
(ii) To establish a Golden Horseshoe Collaborative Ministry committee: G. Ezers inquires as to why this resolution is necessary. Mac. Ilze explains that this resolution leads us in a new direction. It is the first formal step to more active collaboration with the other congregations. It is important that we have the support of the congregation for this initiative. The Hamilton congregation and St. John’s have approved the resolution. G. Ezers comments that collaboration is already taking place. Mac. Ilze agrees, that, yes, there have combined church services, however, this initiative is something different. For example, discussion groups at various homes and venues would be open to members of all congregations. More collaboration would allow for increased service to the congregations. Pastors could be responsible for one focus area, addressing all congregations. For example, one pastor could lead the youth group, another could focus on the older generation, yet another could focus on spiritual education. This would eliminate duplication. A. Libers adds that it is important to involve a committee with representatives from the congregation. Motion to approve collaborative ministry committee: I. Kivlis. Seconded by R. Apse. Carried.
(iii) Decrease the quorum for the AGM of St. Andrew’s Ev. Lutheran Latvian Congregation from 75 to 50 active members: R. Apse asks whether the by-­‐
laws allow for this? Astrida replies that 2 meetings are required; this is the first reading. A. Libers recommends that if there is no quorum at the first AGM, the second AGM would be valid, irrespective of the number of active members. A. Kalns voices agreement that the motion be amended to include:
If there is no quorum in the 1st AGM, a 2nd AGM will be called and will be considered valid irrespective of the number of active members.
L. Steinmanis disagrees that the AGM could be valid irrespective of the number of members. She reminds members that this was discussed at previous council meetings, and that a certain percentage of the congregation needs to be present to validate the meeting. Anita Bredovskis inquires whether it is difficult to get a quorum of 75. There is a resounding “yes” from the members. Astrida adds that with over 600 members in the congregation, it shouldn’t be difficult, but it is. Dr. Langins expresses concern regarding Not for Profit Corporation bylaws. Mac. Ilze explains that the new laws are not yet in force, and that we are in a transition period. When the new laws come into effect, all by-­‐laws will have to be reviewed and rewritten. U. Zommers suggests that we should put an effort into continuing with the 75 member quorum, and make changes when the new law comes into effect. A. Kalns states that in reality it could take 3 years before the law takes effect. Taking into consideration all that has been discussed, A. Kalnins suggests bringing back the original motion:
Decrease the quorum for the AGM of St. Andrew’s Ev. Lutheran Latvian Congregation from 75 to 50 active members. Motion by L. Miklasevics. Seconded by A. Robeznieks. A. Libers asks if it will apply to all general meetings, and the answer is yes. A. Kalnins reminds members that this is the first reading. Motion will not take effect until after the second reading at the next AGM. This motion is put to a vote. Vote is taken by a show of hands: 95 members are present. I. Purvs reports the result: Yes: 71, No: 12, Abstention: 1. Carried.
6. Approval of the 2013 budget: Budget was sent out previously and discussed at last AGM. Motion to approve budget: E. Berzins. Seconded by: A. Kalns. Carried

7. Election of new Council members: A. Kalnins announces that the following council members have agreed to return and be candidates for 2013: K. Blums, A. Zakis and U. Zommers. V. Innus has agreed to be a candidate for council. Motion to close candidates and elect through acclamation: G. Berzins. Seconded by A. Robeznieks. Carried.

9. Other Business
(a) Beta Ludviks speaks on behalf of the Relief for Latvia committee. She reports that there is a urgent need for walkers for the elderly people in our sister congregations in Latvia. She urges
members to let Sarma Gaide know if they have walkers or other mobility devices that could be donated for this cause. (b) Camp Sidrabene: Linda Lakats brings to our attention 2 flyers regarding the camp. One is an informational flyer about the camp. The second is information about a camp logo design contest for young people.

ievadīt sapulci ar lūgšanu. Mācītāja izlūdz Dieva
svētību sapulcei un A. Kalniņa pateicās klātesošiem par
līdzdalību.

uzstādīt pilnsapulces beigās.
A. Kalniņa ieteic darba kārtībū pieņemt, to atbalsta un
pieņem.
(c) A. Kalnins ask for volunteers for mailing Easter bulletin on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 26). 4 members volunteer. (d) A. Kalnins expresses thanks to members for attending. She urges members to become more proactive in the work of the church and volunteer. Members may sign up at any time with S. Gaide. (e) A. Libers thanks A. Kalnins for holding a 2nd AGM. (f) Stewardship committee: V. Kaulins invites members to participate in dinner meetings hosted by 6 members of the congregation. The purpose of these informal meetings is to promote fellowship. An application form to participate is distributed to members. (g) U. Zommers thanks Mac. Ilze, the Council and the Board of Directors for their work.

4. 2013. g. pilnsapulces protokola pieņemšana:
(a) 2013. g. komiteju darbības pārskatu pieņemšana,
(pasniegti 2013. g. 24. februārī) un jautājumi par
pārskatiem:
Sibrabenes bērnu nometne: Anda Libere lūdz lai
sekojošā informācijas par bērnu nometni būtu pasniegta
nākošās draudzes ziņās: nometnes nodarbības, nometnes
un bērnu vadītāju vārdi, arī citu darbinieku vārdi. Šī
atziņa ne tikai informētu draudzes locekļus, bet arī

atzītu visu darbu un pūles ko šie cilvēki ir pielikuši. Šī
informācija tika pieprasīta jau pēdējā pilnsapulcē.
Nākotnes komiteja: A. Libers izsaka domu ka
Nākotnes komiteja nav izpildījusi savu apņemšanos
izpētīt draudzes un dievnama nākotnes iespējas un ar
tām dalīties ar draudzi. Viņa lūdz lai šo pienākumu
jaunā padome izpilda kā pirmo pienākumu savā darbībā.
A. Kalniņa atbild ka komiteja ir savu apņemšanos
izpildījusi, ar padomes plānošanas sanāksmi Sidrabenē,
un divām ārpuskārtas (Town Hall) sanāksmēm. A.
Libere izsakās ka viņas izpratnē Nakotnes komitejai bija
paredzēts darboties visu gadu. A. Kalniņa atbild ka
komitejas darbība turpinājas.
Budžets un testementārie novēlējumi: A. Roze prasa
kamdēļ budžetā nav infomācija par testamentāriem
novēlējumiem, cik ir bijis novēlēts, kā tas ir ieguldīts un
kā tas tiek izmantots. A. Kalniņa atbild ka budžets
atspoguļo tekošos ienākumus un izdevumus, kurpretī
testamentārie novēlējumi draudzei tiek ieguldīti
atsevišķā reserves fondā. Atskaitu par reserves fondu
varētu dot nākošā padome nākošā gada pilnsapulcē.
Baznīcas ērģeles: A. Roze ieteic ka baznīcas ērģeles
vajadzētu novērtēt atsevišķi no baznīcas telpas, lai
pārdošanas gadījumā ērģeļu vērtību ņemtu vērā. Šobrīd
ērģeles ir apdrošinātas par $2,000,000.
A. Kalns ierosina pārskatu pieņemšanu, G. Berziņš
atbalsta. Pieņemti.
LELBAI, Archibīskapa fondam un citiem pasākumiem
tiktu katrs atsevišķi iegrāmatoti. A. Robežnieks ieteic
ziņojumu pieņemt, E. Berziņš atbalsta. Pieņemts.
(c) 2012. g. pilnsapulces protokola pieņemšana.
G. Berziņš ieteic pieņemt protokolu, I. Keon
atbalsta. Pieņemti.
2013. g. 24. februāra pilnsapulces protokola
pieņemšanu:
Mac. Ilze Kuplēns -Ewart izsaka paldies pilnsapulces
sekretārēm par izsmeļošiem pilnsapulces protokoliem.
Dr. I. Ezers iesaka protokolu pieņemt, M. Vītols
atbalsta. Pieņemts.
5. Rezolūcijas
(i)Izmainīt minimālo padomes locekļu skaitu no 15
uz 12: Ši pārmaiņa ir nepieciešama lai vieglāk varētu
sasniegt kvorumu padomes sēdēs. Nepāru skaits nav
nepeiciešams. Mac. Ilze paskaidro ka gaidam uz
jauniem likumiem, kas varētu nākt spēkā ne ātrāk par
2014. g., kas noteiks bezpeļņas organzācijas vadības
sastāvu. Pagaidam varam mainīt padomes sastāvu pēc
vajadzības. Rezolūcija: Līdz tam laikam kad nāk
spēkā jauni Ontārio valdības likumi, kas noteiks
bezpeļnas organzāciju vadības struktūtu, padome
sastāvētu no ne mazāk par 12 locekļiem, katrs
ievēlēts uz trīju gadu termiņu, no kuriem trešā daļa
būtu jāatvieto katru gadu. Bijušie padomes locekļi
var atkartoti kandidēt padomei.
D. Strīpniece prasa vai visi esošie padomes locekļi ir
ievēlēti vienā gadā. L. Miklašēvica atbild, ka padomes
locekļi ir ievēlēti dažādos gados, un ka parasti gadās ka
vismaz 4. padomes locekļiem katru gadu notek termiņš.
E. Berziņš iesaka rezolūciju pieņemt. R. Apse
atbalsta. Pieņemts.
(b) Papildus ziņojumi kopš 2013. g 24. februāra
pilnsapulces no
(i) finanču komitejas: I. Vairoga paskaidro ka
neskatoties uz 2012. g. budžeta iztrūkuma, draudzes
kapitāls pieauga pa $107,000, pateicoties dāsnam
Guntara Kalniņa testimentāram ziedojumam ($85,000),
Latviešu Namu akcijas daļējai izmaksai un draudzes
locekļu ziedojumu $16,000 pieaugumam pēdējā gadā.
2013. g. budžeta atkal rādīs iztrūkumu, bet cerams ka
iztrūkums samazināsies, atkarībā no draudzes locekļu
atsaucības. I. Vairoga lūdz draudzes locekļiem ziedot
regulāri visu cauru gadu, īpaši vasaras mēnešos, lai
draudze var tekoši nosegt izdevumus. Ziedojumi
manāmi apsīgst par vasaras mēnešiem, kas rada grūtības
ar izdevumu nomaksāsanu.. I. Vairogs arī lūdz draudzes
locekļiem izrakstīt čekus angļu valodā uz St. Andrews
Ev. Lutheran Latvian Congregation. TD banka
nepieņem čekus rakstītus latviski. L. Miklašēvics ieteic
ziņojumu pieņemt, M. Vītos atbalsta, Pieņemts.
(ii) Revizijas komisijas: V. Zvīdra ziņo ka revizijas
komisija tikās ar draudzes kasieri I. Vairogu, darbvedi S.
Gaidi un bijušo kasieri E. Berziņu 21. februārī un 13,
martā, tad turpināja savu pārbaudi par ēpastu. Visi 2012.
g. finanču pārskati tika pārbaudīti, ieskaitot Kora, Dāmu
komitejas, Palīdzība Latvijas, Ķļavu Lapas, Sidrabenes
īpašuma un Sidrabenes bērnu nometnes, Apglabāšanas
fonda un Testamentāro fonda. Visas grāmatas ir atrastas
labā kārtībā līdz 2012. g. 31. decembrim. Revizijas
komisija ieteic lai draudzes ziedojumi Austrum sinodei,
(ii) ‘Zelta pakava‘ Sadarbības komitejas veidošana:
G. Ezers vaicā vai šada rezolūcija ir nepieciešama. Māc.
Ilze skaidro ka šīs rezolūcijas pieņemšana oficiāli atzītu
draudzes atbalstu jaunam virzienam draudzes darbībā,
par ciešāku sadarbību Toronto apkārtnes mācītāju
starpā. Hamiltonas un Sv. Jāņu draudzes jau to ir
apstiprinājušas. G. Ezers novēro ka šada veida sadarbība
jau notiek. Māc. Ilze piekrīt, ka kopēji dievkalpojumi
tiek noturēti, bet norāda ka topošais initiatīvs ir kaut kas
jauns. Piemēram, pārrunas grupas tiktu veidotas no visu
draudžu pārstāvjiem. Ciešāka sadarbība papildinātu
kalpošanas iespējas visām draudzēm. Mācītāji varētu
uzņemties kalpošanas atbildības visām draudzēm ar
specifisku fokusu, kas atbilstu viņu īpašu spējām,
piemēram veicināt jauniešu grupu, jeb vecākās paaudzes
aprūpi, vai garīgo izglītību. Šādā veidā darbojoties
varētu novērst duplikāciju. A. Libere uzsver ka būtu
svarīgi ka komitejā iesaistītos draudzes pārstāvji. I.
Ķivlis iesaka rezolūciju pieņemt. R. Apse atbalsta.
Pieņemts.

balso par, 12 balso pret un 1 atturās. Kvoruma
izmaiņa ir pieņemta pirmā lasījumā.
(iii) Samazināt kvorumu Sv. Andreja Ev. Lut.
Latviešu draudzes pilnsapulcēs no 75 uz 50
pilntiesīgu dalībnieku. L. Šteinmane jautā vai
pilnsapulce spēj noteikt kvoruma izmaiņas, ja
pilnsapulcē nav zināms procentuāls draudžu locekļu
skaits, kā pārrunāts jau citās pilnsapulcēs. A. Bredovska
prasa vai tiešām ir grūti sasniegt kvorumu ja tas paliek
75; atbilde nepārprotami ir ‘Jā!’ A. Kalniņš piebilst ka
lai gan draudzē skaitās vairāk kā 600 locekļu, tomēr
sasniegt kvorumu katru gadu sagādā grūtības. Dr.
Langīns izsaka rūpes kā šis lēmums saskan ar bezpeļņas
organzāciju likumiem. Māc Ilze izskaidro ka jaunie
likumi nav vēl spēkā, un patlaban atrodamies pārejas
posmā. Kad jaunie likumi tiks ievesti visus statūtus būs
jāpārraksta. U. Zommers ieteic līdz tam laikam mēs
varētu pallikt pie esošā kvoruma, bet A. Kalns iebilst ka
likumi varētu nākt spēkā tikai pēc trim gadiem, un
starplaikā katru gadu ir lielākas grūtības sasniegt
nepieciešamo dalībnieku skaitu. Ņemot vērā visu
pārrunāto, A. Kalniņa ieteic palikt or oriģinālo
rezolūciju: Samazināt kvorumu Sv. Andreja Ev. Lut.
Latviešu draudzes pilnsapulcēs no 75 uz 50
pilntiesīgu dalībnieku. L. Miklašēvica ieteic
rezolūciju pieņemt, A. Robežnieks atbalsta,
Rezolūcija ir pieņemta. A. Libers jautā vai šis kvorums
attiektos uz visām pilnsapucēm, un atbilde ir Jā. A.
Kalniņa paskaidro ka par šo izmaiņu būs jābalso atkal
nākāmā gada pilnsapulcē pirms to varēs pieņemt. Seko
balsošana: no 95 klātesošiem draudzes locekļiem 71
2013. g. budžeta pieņemšana: Budzēts tika izdalīts un
pārrunāts pēdējā pilnsapulcē. E. Berziņš ieteic budžetu
pieņemt, A. Kalns atbalsta. Pieņemts.

Whereas the Grace Toronto (Presbyterian) Church submitted an offer on February 5, 2014 to purchase the St.
Andrews Lutheran Church located at 383 Jarvis Street, in Toronto, for the amount of $4,150,000,
Whereas the St. Andrews Ev. Lutheran Latvian Council at the February 5, 2014 Council unanimously
approved to accept this purchase price,
Now therefore be it,
Resolved that the St. Andrews Ev. Lutheran Latvian Council engage in the process to sell St. Andrews
Lutheran Church located at 383 Jarvis Street to the Grace Toronto (Presbyterian) Church and engage Mills
and Mills LLP in the legal process to address the conditions of the sale.
(The following two motions are constitutional amendments and therefore require two readings in order to be passed).
MOTION 2: Minimum number of congregational council members. Second reading.
Until such time as the Ontario Not-for-Profit-Corporations Act, 2010 comes into force, the minimum number of
members of the congregational council shall be twelve, with no fewer than one third of the members retiring each
year. Retiring members of the congregational council may be re-elected.
MOTION 3: To reduce the quorum requirement at all general meetings from 75 to 50 congregation members
in good standing at the time of the meeting. Second reading.
Until such time as the Ontario Not-for-Profit-Corporations Act, 2010 comes into force, the quorum for annual or
special congregational meetings shall be fifty members in good standing.

Jaņu baznīcas mācītāju es priecājos jums pasniegt sekojošo ziņu:
Esam nākuši pie saprašanu starp mūsu padomi un Sv. Jāņa draudzes padomi ka Sv. Andreja draudze varētu pārcelt savus dievkalpojumus un citas draudzes nodarbības uz Sv. Jaņa bazņicu attiecīgā laikā.
Māc. Ilze ir jau tikusies ar Sv. Jāņu baznīcas mācītāju Kristbergu lai uzsāktu plānošanu kā saskaņot dievkalpojumus un citas nodarbības abām draudzēm Sv. Jaņu baznīcas telpās. Pārrunas kur un kā gadāt par mūsu draudzes administratīvām vajadzībām arī ir paceltas.
Ar Grace Toronto draudzi esam vienojušies par sekojošo laika plānu: līdz 5. aprilim mūsu draudzei un igauņu draudzei ir jāapstiprina vēlēšanos pieņemt Grace Toronto draudzes pirkšanas piedāvājumu. Igauņu draudze plāno īpašu sanāksmi balsot par šo priekslikumu marta beigās. Ja abas draudzes izlemj pārdot baznīcu Grace Toronto draudzei, mēs kopīgi atstātu Sv. Andreja dievnamu oktobra beigās.
Pievienots Draudzes ziņām ir rezolūcija par kūru ir iecerēts balso pilnsapulcē. Arī pievienots ir pirmais mets sadarbības parrunām ar Sv. Jāņu draudzi kas sāktu izpētīt abu draudžu apvienšanās iespējas nākotnē.

draudzes ziņas izsūtīšanu; četri locekļi piesakās.

Tas, ka esam latvieši, vai latviešu izcelsmes ļaudis,
nosaka kontekstu, bet identitāti nosaka tas, ko mēs
darām un kas mēs esam, proti, draudze. Mēs esam
“Kristus ķermenis un katrs par sevi tā locekļi.” (1. kor
12:27). Mums ir “dažādas dāvanas, bet tas pats Gars,
dažādas kalpošanas, bet tas pats Kungs, dažādas spēka
izpausmes, bet tas pats Dievs, kas visu rosina. Bet
ikvienam tiek dota Gara atklāsme kopīgam
labumam” (1. kor 12:4-7). Šīs pazīmes mūs atšķiŗ no
citām latviešu organizācijām, kuŗām ir citi mērķi.
Mēs esam Jēzus sekotāju saime, ļaudis, kuŗiem
uzticēts nest citiem labo vēsti par izlīgšanu un jaunu,
pilnvērtīgu dzīvi, ko piedzīvojam Kristū. Šis vēstījums
balstās Dieva mīlestībā un žēlsirdībā, ko paši esam
piedzīvojuši kā apžēloti un augšāmcelti Dieva bērni. Tā
mēs dalāmies Dieva laipnībā ar saviem tuviniekiem –
mūsu pašu draudzes ļaudīm, ar plašāko latviešu
sabiedrību gan te, gan arī citās vietās pasaulē, un arī ar
pārējo sabiedrību. Tāpēc mēs gādājam par tiem, kuŗiem
noder mūsu atbalsts šeit tuvumā, bet arī ziedojam
Palīdzībai Latvijai, un atbalstām palīdzības akcijas
plašākā pasaulē caur Luterāņu Pasaules Federāciju. To
mēs darām, jo, kā mācāmies no Jēzus, Dievs nešķiro
cilvēkus pirms tiem palīdz.

2. No draudzes mācītājas.
Mēs neviens nemeklējām iespēju nodot mūsu
draudzes dievnamu citu rokās. Piedāvājums vienkārši
radās, negaidīti. Bet ko nu darīt?
Ko mēs katrs darītu, ja jautājums būtu par mums
pašiem, piemēram par darbu, vai par pārcelšanos uz citu
vietu?
Viena iespēja ir nelikties ne zinis. Turpināt kā līdz
šim. Bet, pat ja izvēlas šādu variantu, piedāvājums
tomēr liek apdomāties. Kā būtu, ja….? Vai varētu būt
citādi nekā pašlaik…? Lai nonāktu pie lēmuma,
apzinīgs cilvēks novērtēs līdzšinējos apstākļus un
pametīs skatu uz nākotni, tā pārbaudot piedāvāto iespēju
lietderīgumu.
Mēs esam saime, jo apzināmies, ka spēks pildīt savu
aicinājumu nāk, kad esam kopā, klausoties Dieva vārdu,
saņemot sakramentu svētību un aktīvi piedaloties Dieva
pielūgšanā un slavēšanā.
Tā izpaužas mūsu aicinājums.
Kad kristietim parādās negaidīts aicinājums vai
izšķiršanās, tas lūko izdibināt – ko Dievs vēlētos, lai es
daru? Līdzīgi, kad izšķiršanās par piedāvājumu attiecas
uz draudzi, pamata jautājums visām pārrunām un
pārdomām ir tas pats – ko Dievs vēlas, lai darām? Arī
draudzei ir rūpīgi jāpārdomā, kas darīts līdz šim, un
jāapsver, kas stāv priekšā. Tai ir jāpārskata savs
aicinājums kā Kristus miesai noteiktajā laikā un vietā,
kur tā darbojas, un jāprasa - vai jaunā iespēja nāktu par
svētību sava aicinājuma pildīšanai?
Piedāvājums atpirkt mūsu dievnamu liek prasīt –
kuŗa vieta palīdz mums kā draudzei vislabāk īstenot šo
aicinājumu? Mūsu draudzes dievnams, īpaši sākuma
gados, kad te pulcējās nesen iebraukušie latvieši, bija
nozīmīgs pieturas punkts draudzes darbībai latviešu
sabiedrībā. Bet vai varam to arī šodien apgalvot? Vai
mums ir nepieciešams tieši šis dievnams, lai pildītu savu
aicinājumu? Mūsu emocionālās saistības ar dievnamu ir
ļoti svarīgas, un mēs visi mīļā pieminā paturam visu,
kas te piedzīvots, jo tās ir patiesi bagātas atmiņas, kas
turpinās nest svētību! Tomēr, svarīgāks par tām ir šis
svētais aicinājums, kas mums uzdots, un tā mērķtiecīgā
pildīšana.
Pēdējā gada pilnsapulcē pieņēmām lēmumu, ka ir
pienācis laiks latviešu draudzēm saucamajā “Zelta
pakavā” ap Ontario ezeru ciešāk sadarboties, lai
veiksmīgāk pildītu savu aicinājumu. Tas ļautu mums
dalīties cilvēku dāvanās, padziļinot un bagātinot mūsu
darbību kā latviešu kristiešu saimei. Varbūt
piedāvājums piebiedroties otrai latviešu draudzei un
dalīties ar tās telpām un cilvēku dāvanām ir dabiska
attīstība?
Vai tas nozīmē, ka viss līdzšinējais ir kļuvis
nenozīmīgs? Nevienam nevajadzētu tā domāt! Ir tik
daudz darīts, kas bezgala daudziem nācis par svētību.
Bet, vai nevarētu būt, ka visspēcīgākais apliecinājums
tiem, kas cēla un veidoja mūsu draudzi ir tas, ka
Sv. Andreja draudzes aicinājuma konteksts ir
vienmēr bijis tās latviešu saknes, kas iekļauj vairāk nekā
tikai valodu vien. Tās, piemēram, ļāva saprast
Vjetnamas bēgļu likteni, kuŗi pirms vairākiem gadu
desmitiem ieradās Kanadā, meklējot patvērumu. Mūsu
draudzes ļaudīm nebija daudz jāskaidro par šiem
jaunajiem bēgļiem. Viņi tos saprata, bija pretīmnākoši
un tiem palīdzēja.
Pat tagad, nonākot līdz trešajai paaudzei kopš
draudzes dibināšanas, latviešu identitāte ir vēl joprojām
spēcīgs magnēts, kas savelk mūs kopā. Tas izpaužas
citādi nekā pirms sešdesmit gadiem, (piemēram, cik no
mums vēl izšujam latviskus spilveņus). Tomēr arī
jaunākai paaudzei ir svarīgi, ka esam latvieši. Tas mūs
padara par tā saucamo “community church”, bet ar
atšķirību no parastās nozīmes, jo nevis ģeogrāfiskais
novietojums nosaka mūsu “community”, bet gan etniskā
piederība. Tā ir ļoti būtiska atšķirība, kas jāņem vērā,
domājot tālāk par iespējām.

pastiprināti turpinām tās darbību, atrodot jaunus
izteiksmes veidus, kas uzrunā jaunākās paaudzes un
atbilst viņu dzīves skatījumam, pat ja to darām citā
vietā?
viņa sekotāji būs gatavi padoties nezināmajam, lai ietu
turp, kur viņš vada. Kad viņš ieraudzīja savus pirmos
mācekļus, Jēzus tiem sacīja: “Nāciet, sekojiet man, es
jūs darīšu par cilvēku zvejniekiem.” Un mācekļu
atbilde? “Tūlīt pametuši savus tīklus, tie viņam
sekoja.” ( Mt 4:19,20)
Sekosim viņam savās pārdomās, pārrunās un
lēmumos, un tā būsim par svētības nesēji arī turpmāk,
tur, kur Kungs mūs vada.
Vēl viens apsvērums ir mūsu uzdevums kā šī
dievnama namturiem. Latviešu un igauņu luterāņu
draudzes sekoja divu iepriekšējo draudžu pēdās. Savā
laikā dievnamu cēla skotu presbiterāņi, kas dzīvoja
Jarvis ielas tuvumā (mūsu draudzes piecdesmit gadu
jubilejas grāmatā ir plašs apraksts, ar ko iesaku
iepazīties), bet luterāņi to atpirka no United Church
draudzes, kas bija iepriekšējās draudzes turpinātāji.
Dievnams ir bijis vienmēr skaidri saredzams no
pazemes stacijas un no Jarvis ielas maģistrāles, braucot
uz ziemeļu pusi. Tas noenkuro Allen Gardens un visu tā
dzīves apriti. Sv. Andreja dievnams ir kā bāka, kas vēstī
par baznīcu kā centrālu daļu no vietējās sabiedrības
dzīves.
Bet tā nav mūsu “community”.
Par to liecina mūsu ziņu dēlis ārpusē uz Carlton
ielas. Nav tālu jāskatās, lai ieraudzītu, ka pie gandrīz
katra iekšpilsētas vai priekšpilsētas dievnama ziņu dēļa
ir datorizēts paziņojums LED formātā, kur var uzzināt
par dievkalpojumiem, Bībeles stundām, meditācijām un
citiem pasākumiem. Tie tā parādīti, lai garāmgājēji
saprastu, - tas ir arī viņiem domāts, un viņi ir mīļi
gaidīti. Mūsu ziņu dēlis stāv tukšs. Viss, kas tur
parādās, ir dievnama nosaukums un kontakta
informācija. Tas ir pašsaprotami, jo mums ir cits
aicinājums – fokusēt uz latviešiem un latviešu izcelsmes
ļaudīm. Mūsu draudze nesaredz savu aicinājumu kā
saistītu ar vietējo sabiedrību. Drīzāk tā ir traucējoša, jo
novērš uzmanību no mūsu īpašās identitātes.

1. From the Council Chair.
On February 5, 2014 we received, from the Grace Church, an offer to purchase our church for the sum of $4,150,000. At our Council meeting, scheduled for that same day, the council members unanimously approved to accept this purchase price. The council agreed to submit the sale of our church to Grace Church for consideration at our AGM scheduled for February 23, 2014. The chair of the Estonian congregation has informed me that the purchase price is acceptable to their leadership as well.
Based on comments and suggestions provided by congregational members at the Town Hall held on Sunday February 9, 2014, as well as the discussions held with the chair of the Estonian congregation, the Pastor of Grace Church, and St. John's congregation, I am pleased to be able to share the following information.
An agreement has been reached between the leadership of the St. John's and St. Andrew's congregations to move all of the activities currently located in the St. Andrew's church to St. John's church. Pastor Kuplens-­‐Ewart has already met with Pastor Kristbergs to begin outlining a framework for the co-­‐ordination of the services and activities of both congregations at St. John's church. Space has also been identified in the St. John's church for the housing of the St. Andrew's administrative activities.
We have also agreed to the following timetable, with Grace Church, for the consideration and possible sale of our church. Our congregation and the Estonian congregation will need to respond to the Grace church purchase offer by the first week of April. I have been informed that the Estonian congregation will scheduling a special meeting of their congregation at the end of March to consider the sale. Should there be an agreement for the sale of our church to Grace church, the closing date for the transfer of the church would be the end of October.
Grace Church draudze, turpretīm, skaidri izjūt savu
aicinājumu - kalpot iekšpilsētas ļaudīm. Tie, aptuveni
400 gados jaunie dievlūdzēji, kas dzīvo iekšpilsētā un
sapulcējas ik svētdienas, ir sajutuši, ka mūsu dievnams
ir šī saredzamā vieta, no kurienes viņi varētu pildīt
misijas darbu ļaudīm, kas dzīvo vai strādā šī dievnama
apkārtnē. Tieši kā darīja šī dievnama cēlēji un tieši kā
darīja tie, kas dibināja un cēla mūsu draudzi sākuma
gados. Skatoties no šāda viedokļa, kā lai mēs atbildam
kā šī dievnama pašreizējie namturi? Kā Dievs aicina
mūs atbildēt, lai misijas darbs Kristus vārdā pieaugtu
spēkā?
Vienalga kā balsojam, vai par dievnama pārdošanu
un pārvietošanos, lai dalītos ar Sv. Jāņa draudzi, vai par
palikšanu kur esam, galvenajam apsvērumam ir
jābalstās nevis tikai pagātnē, - jā, tā ir mīļa, bet ar skatu
nākotnē, domājot, kā vislabāk īstenosim savu īpašo
misijas darbu kā latviešu luterāņu draudze. Kas mums
ar to visvairāk palīdzēs?
Balsot nozīmē uzņemties risku – bet riskēt, neesot
drošiem par to, ko nākotne atklās, ir bijis raksturīgi
kristiešiem no pirmsākumiem. Jēzus pat sagaida, ka

This is, obviously, a very important meeting for our congregation. I urge all congregation members to make every effort to attend the meeting on February 23, 2014.
was in the unique position of empathizing with the situation of Vietnamese boat people who arrived in Canada several decades ago. Our people had no need of explanation as to what it means to be a refugee. This was what they new, and their response was to offer help.
Even now, as we see the third generation of the post-­‐war Latvian community in Canada being born, being Latvian continues to be a powerful magnet that draws us together. The way it is expressed is different than sixty years ago (how many of us embroider cushion covers in Latvian national designs any more), but identifying as Latvian is still important for our younger generation. That makes us a community church with a difference: it isn’t where we live that defines us as a community, but our ethnicity. This is a very important, if nuanced, difference that needs to be borne in mind when thinking about future possibilities.

2. From the pastor. None of us went looking for an opportunity to pass over responsibility for our church building. The offer came out of the blue, quite unexpectedly. But what now?
What would you do if presented with something similar, a significant decision about, for example, a job change or a move to a new location?
Being Latvian, or of Latvian heritage, provides the context for our mission and sense of self. But our deeper identity is shaped by what we do and who we are, that is, a Christian community, a congregation. We are: “the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1. Cor. 12:27). We have “varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Cor 12:4-­‐7). These characteristics separate us from other Latvian organizations which have goals specific to them.
We are a community of followers of Jesus, people who have been entrusted to bring the good news of reconciliation and new, fulfilled life, in Christ. This message is grounded in God’s love and graciousness, things we ourselves have experienced as redeemed children of God, raised to new life in Jesus. So we share God’s lovingkindess with our neighbours: fellow members of our congregation, the wider, Latvian community here and elsewhere, and to the world in general. We care for those who need our help nearby, but also support Aid to Latvia and various appeals directed to us from the Lutheran World Federation. We do this because, as we have learned from Jesus, God doesn’t decide between people before he helps them.
We are a community of people because we understand that we gain the strength to fill this work of mission when we gather together, receive God’s word and the blessing of the sacraments and actively participate in praying to, and praising God.
One option is to simply ignore the possibility and carry on as before. But even if this is the chosen option, the offer forces us to stop and consider: how would it be, if..? Might it be different from now? A responsible decision would be based on a review of what has happened up to now and a measured guess at future possibilities to evaluate the appropriateness of the offer.
When individual Christians are presented with an unexpected opportunity or decision that needs making, they try to discern what God desires. Similarly, when a congregation is asked to make a decision, the same basic question applies and directs conversations and reflection: what does God want of us? A congregation, too, needs to review its activities up to now, and consider the future. It has to evaluate its mission as the body of Christ in a certain place, at a given time and ask: will this new opportunity enrich and bring blessing to how we live out our particular vocation?
The context in which the calling of St Andrew’s has been set has always been its Latvian roots. That is more than language alone. The shared experience of being Latvian refugees meant the congregation 10

A clear indication of this is our noticeboard on Carlton. You don’t need to look far to see a computerized, LED sign at almost every downtown church, and an increasing number of suburban churches. These provide information on service times, Bible study and meditations and other events. They are there to provide passers-­‐by with a signal: this is for you, too, and you are welcome to join us. Our noticeboard is empty. All that you see is the name of the church and contact information. And that is understandable, because our calling is to focus on Latvians and those of Latvian descent. Our congregation does not see its vocation as directed to the local community. Rather, the latter distracts us from our own, unique identity. The offer to buy our building compels us to ask: is there a particular place where we are best able to fulfill this mission as a congregation? Our church, especially in those early years when it was the gathering place for newly-­‐arrived Latvians, was an important focus of our congregation’s work in the wider Latvian community. But can we say the same today? Must we have this particular church building to fulfill our mission? Our emotional ties to the church building are very important, and we should all continue to remember fondly everything we experienced here, for those are memories that will continue to bless us. Nonetheless more important than these is our holy calling, and how we live this out. Last year we adopted a resolution at our Annual General Meeting stating that Latvian Lutheran congregations in the Golden Horseshoe should begin to collaborate so as to better execute their mission. We recognized that this would allow us to pool our gifts thus deepening and enriching our work and witness as a Latvian Christian community. Might this new offer to share facilities and people’s gifts with another Latvian congregation be a natural, evolutionary development?
Now, Grace Church, a congregation with a clearly defined sense of calling to be in mission for those living downtown, one where around 400 young worshippers meet every Sunday and who themselves live locally, have discerned that our church building should be the visible presence of their ministry to those who live or work in the vicinity. Just as did those who built the church, as those who built our congregation in the early years. Taking this into consideration, how should we respond as stewards of this building? How is God calling us to respond to help Christ’s mission grow ever stronger?
Does this mean that everything we have done up to now is now meaningless? No-­‐one should imagine that to be the case! So much has been done, so many blessings shared. But might the most powerful witness to the work of those who founded and shaped our congregation not be an enhanced continuation of this work in new expressions that speak to younger generations and reflect their worldview, even if this is in a different place?
No matter how we vote, whether for, or against sale and a move to share St John’s Latvian facility, or to remain here, the main consideration must be not the past, even though it is so precious, but on focusing on and bringing to life our particular mission as a Latvian Lutheran congregation. What will help us best in this? Voting either way involves taking a risk, but risk-­‐
taking, that is, making a decision without being completely clear what the future will bring, has been characteristic of what it means to be a Christian from the very beginning. Jesus himself expects his followers to be ready for the unknown so as to go where he leads them, leads us. When he saw his first followers, his disciples Jesus said to them: “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people” And his disciples response? “Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” Mt 4:19,20.

Another consideration is our role as stewards of this church building. The Latvian and Estonian congregations followed in the steps of two previous congregations. The church was built originally by Scots Presbyterians who lived near Jarvis St (this is described in our fiftieth anniversary book), but Lutherans bought the building from a United Church of Canada congregation who were the continuers of the original congregation. The building has always been clearly visible from the subway station as well as for quite some distance as you drive north up Jarvis St. It is an anchor for Allen Gardens and all that happens there. St Andrew's is like a lighthouse that signals to the local community that the church is a central part of its life. But this isn’t our community.

Dievkalpojumu skaits un dievlūdzēju skaits
ir atsevišķi norādīts.
•
Dievkalpojumos vēl joprojām pieturamies
pie vispārējā baznīcā pieņemto trīs gadu
ciklu. Ar 2013. gada Adventu, kad atskatījos
uz trīsdesmit kalpošanas gadiem kopš mani
ordinēja mācītājas amatā mūsu baznīcā
ārpus Latvijas, sāku vienpadsmito reizi iziet
caur šīm trīs gadu ciklam. Šo gadu, kad ir
Mateja gads, pavadīsim papildus laiku pie
saucamo Kalna sprediķi.
•
Aizkustinoša, vienmēr cerības un dziļās
ticības zīme ir tas, kā mūsu draudzes locekļi
uztver Svēto Vakarēdiena nozīmi, - gandrīz
vai katrs nāk saņemt šo Dieva laipnības un
Kristus klātienes svētības zīmi. Šie
saucamie “pilnie” dievkalpojumi šobrīd
notiek caurmērā divas reizes mēnesī, ar
izņēmumu ap svētku laikiem. Tomēr mani
nodarbina tas, ka Svētais Vakarēdiens kopā
ar Vārdu nav piedzīvojams katrā mūsu
dievkalpojumā. Retais Svētais Vakarēdiens
ir pāri palikums no deviņpadsmitā gadsimta
– visās baznīcās, izņemot Romas katoļu, bet tagad mūsu ticības māsas un brāļi citās
konfesījās, arī arvien vairākās latviešu
draudzēs ārpus Latvijas, ir atgriežušies pie
tās tradicijas, kas ir bijusi baznīcā. Labprāt
dalītos tālāk savās domās par šo.

Ļoti priecājos par labo sadarbību ar mūsu
ērģelnieku un ansambļa vadītāju, kā arī ar
mūsu perminderiem. Tas ir pie reizes liels
atspaids man, bet arī bagātinošs visai
draudzei. Tam klāt nāk atmīnas no skaisto
bērnu Adventes laika dievkalpojumu, kur
mūs iepriecināja Sestdienas skolas
koklētāji. Paldies sevišķi Marisai Zubāns un

Mūsu ērģelnieks ir ieskaņojis visus
dievkalpojumus kopš 2013. gada vēlā
rudens un ļoti ceram, ka tie, kopā ar
iepriekšējo gadu dievkalpojumu un
koncertu ierakstiem, kas šobrīd atrodas
pagrabā arī tiks pārveidoti digitālā versijā,
lai lejuplādētu no “cloud”.

Pirms pāris gadiem iesākām kopā ar Sv
Jāņa draudzi divas reizes mēnesī noturēt
kopīgus dievkalpojumus, lai būtu iespējams

Ievadot savu gada pārskatu vēlos vispirms
pieminēt visus tos, kas darbojušies līdz, lai
draudzes garīgai dzīvei būtu nepieciešamais
atbalsts. Katrs ir piestrādājis savā veidā, savā īpašā
darbības laukā, un par ikvienu pateicos apzinoties,
ka kopīgais darbs nes daudz svētību. Draudzes
padome un valde, priekšsēdis Voldemārs Innus,
vicepriekšsēži Kārlis Blūms, Skaidrīte Leja, Ingrīda
Vairogs, sekretārēs Aija Mazsīlis, un Gundega
Melli, kā arī kasieres vietnieks, Jānis Tannis.
Turklāt draudzes administratore Sarma Gaide, un
Rita Ziediņa. kas strādā aizkulisēs nodrošinot
kārtību, bet vienmēr nākot pretīm ar papildus
palīdzību. Mūsu pērminderi un vecākais Guntis
Bērziņš, Maija Ķuze, par turpinošo palīdzību
sagādājot lasītājus, Elizabete Ludviks, Balva KūlaBredovskis un Edīte Zariņa par ziediem, un vispār
mūsu dāmu komitejai ar priekšnieci Intu Briedi.
Mūsu draudzes ērģelnieks un mūzikas dzīves
vadītājs, Dāvids Šmits, kā arī šogad klāt pienākot
ar ansambļa vadīšanu – Vaira Gertners. Vasaras
mēnešos jāpateicas sevisķi Sidrabenes namzinim,
Andrejam Grīnbergam, kā arī Sidrabenes saimei
par palīdzību, to starpā apstādot brīvdabas baznīcu.
Šo gadu esmu sadalījusi savu pārskatu tā, kā to
nododu draudzes padomes sēdēs – tematiski
vadoties pēc mūsu draudzes statūtiem:
Dievkalpojumi, mācīšana, liecināšana, kalpošana,
cits, ieskaitot saistības vietējā Austrumu sinodes
mācītāju konventā, Toronto iekšpilsētas anglikāņu
mācītāju konventā, kā arī apgabala prāvesta un citi,
plašākās baznīcas pienākumi.
1. Dievkalpojumi.
Pārdomas par dievkalpojumu, un sprediķa
veidošana ir tas, kas varbūt pieprasa visvairāk
laiku, un novadīt dievkalpojumu, pārsteidzoši lielu
enerģijas atdevi. Tas ir kā tam ir jābūt, jo
dievkalpojums ir centrālais notikums draudzes
dzīvē, kur Dieva Vārds izskan, vārdos, mūzikā,
telpā, cilvēkos, klusumā, un draudzes locekļi saņem
nepieciešamo sakramentu stiprinājumu. Tur arī
sanāk kopā mūsu lūgšanas par baznīcu, pasauli, un
trūkumcietējiem.

katru svētdienu atnākt uz dievkalpojumu
latviešu valodā, bet arī divas reizes mēnesī
tajā pašā laikā, angļu valodā. Esam abi ar
savu kolēgu manījuši, ka dažādu iemeslu
dēļ šie angļu valodas dievkalpojumi nav
attīstījušies kā iecerējām, un vēlamies
ievadīt sarunas par turpmāko izkārtojumu ar
tiem, kas nāk uz šiem dievkalpojumiem
pilsētā, vai vēlētos nākt. No otras puses,
negaidīts bonuss ir bijis, ka tas ir palīdzējis
mūsu ļaudīm justies vairāk “mājās” Sv Jāņa
draudzes dievnamā.

Metot skatu uz iespējamu nākotni, esam abi ar
prāv. Kristbergu izveidojuši darbības plānu pec kā
turpmāk vadīties, ja mūsu draudze nolemj pārdot
savu dievnamu un dalīties ar Sv Jāņa draudzi.
Pārstāvi no abām padomēm bija ieteikuši, ka katra
draudze būtu atbildiga par vienu svētdienu,
pamīšus. Tā mēs abi iesakam, ka parastās
svētdienās (ne svētku reizēs), Sv Jāna draudze
varētu pārņemt dievkalpojumus 1., un 3.. svētdienā,
kamēr mēs esam atbildīgu par visu 2., un 4.
svētdienā.
Tā arī pirms pāris gadiem iesākām
dievkalpojumu vienu reizi mēnesī (no
rudens līdz pavasarim) plkst 5os svetdienas
vakarā “The Gathering”. Tos veidot bija
lūgums, kas nāca man no draudzes jaunākās
paaudzes ļaudīm. Dievkalpojumi bija ļoti
dzīvi, tos veidoja un vadīja vairāki, katrs
uzņemoties savu daļu. Grupas darbība ļāva
veltīt nepieciešamās stundas, lai izmeklētu
tēmas, veidotu dievkalpojumu ar
jautājumiem, lasījumiem un pārdomām, un
citādu mūziku nekā parasti, kā arī kādas
sešas stundas, lai sagatavotu labu izstrādātu,
gaumīgu “power-point” kur bija visa
dievkalpojuma kārtība. Diemžēl,
neskatoties uz labo atsaucību, tie ir bijuši
jānoliek pie malas kopš 2013.g. pavasara, jo
iepriekšējiem palīgiem vairāku iemeslu dēļ
nebija vairs iespējams piedalīties rīkošanā
un vadīšanā.

sevišķi svētdienās, būtu ļoti vēlama.
Turklāt saredzu lielu, līdz šim neizmantotu,
potenciālu veidot garīgu dzīvi Sidrabenē, ne tikvien
vasaras mēnešos. Vados no pieredzes, kas man bija
manā pirmā draudzē, Anglijā. Tur, draudzes lauku
īpašumā, noturējām dievkalpojumu vienu reizi
mēnesī. Ļaudis, galvenokārt gimenes, mēroja ļoti
tālus ceļus, lai tur tiktu (caurmērs bija 1 stunda).
Viņus sagaidīja ar atspirdzinājumiem, bet pēc
dievkalpojuma - kopigas pusdienas, kurām sekoja
pārrunas, vai citi priekšnesumi. Pa to laiku bērniem
bija savas nodarbības. Cilvēki atstāja pec launaga.
Tas ir sen atpakaļ, bet spriežot pēc tā, ko esmu
dzirdējusi, piedāvāt līdzīgu iespēju Sidrabenē
nākotnē varētu nest spēcīgus augļus. Sidrabenieši
ir agrāk bijuši ļoti atsaucīgi palīgi, un tagad, kad tur
ienāk jaunākās paaudzes ļaudis, tas varētu dot gan
viņiem, gan arī citiem iespēju palīdzēt tur veidot un
nostiprināt garīgu dzīvi citā veidā. Tas nestu tik
daudz svētības.
Šī gada Ciešanu laikā būs iespēja piedalīties
svētbrīdī trešdienas vakaros, plkst 19os mūsu
dievnamā. Būs lūgšanas un klusuma brīži, Bībeles
lasījumi, mūzika un pāris dziesmu – viss ap tēmu:
“maiņas un pārmaiņas, bet visur Kristus klāt”
2.Mācīšana
esmu novērojusi cik procentuāli mazs skaits
nometņotāju vecāki ir starp dievlūdzējiem
nometnes laika dievkalpojumos. Ar to viņi
īpaši šogad daudz zaudēja, jo bērnu
uzvedumu (skat. zem “mācīšana”) bija
vienreizēji iepriecinoši, un ar to
nepiedzīvoja iespēju pārrunāt mācīto ar
saviem bērniem. Es ļoti ceru, ka nometnes
komitejai būs iespējams atgādināt

Kluso laiku atkal ievadījām ar referātu
ciklu. Šī gada referents, māc. Dr. Gundars
Ceipe, mūs iepazīstināja ar Brāļu draudžu
devumu latviešu garīgai dzīve, kā arī
nacionālās pašapziņas veidošanā.
Iepazināmies arī ar mazāk pazistamām
Brāļu draudzes dziesmām. Paldies dāmu
komitejai par atbalstīšanu!

Piedalījos LELBAs draudžu dienās, Florīdā
•
Turpinām iesvētes mācības, kaut gan uz
2015. gadu nav neviens pieteicies
iesvētīties. Iemesls redzams draudzes
kartotēkā – mums ir tikai ļoti maza saujiņa
tā gada gājuma.
•
Pieaugušo sagatavošana kristībām: arī tas
prasa daudzu stundu pārrunām. Mums par
lielu prieku tas arī bija 2013. gadā kad
kristījām Jāni Ozollapu mūsu dievnamā.
•
Martā piedalījos pārrunās ar LELB mūzikas
un viņu jaunās dziesmu grāmatas veidotāju,
Dr Vili Kolmu. Viņš mūs, Toronto un
apkārtnes garīdzniekus, iepazīstināja ar
jaunām dziesmām, melodijām, un
dalījamies ar savām pieejām un
ieteikumiem
•
Vasarā iepazīstināju draudzes locekļus ar
Israelā notikušo LELBāL paplašinātās
pārvaldes sēdi un ar to, kas bija redzēts gan
tur, gan arī Jardānā. Vēl joprojām jūtu kā
šis svētceļojums ietekmē pat sprediķus.

3. Liecināšana
Novadīju svētbrīdi LNAK sesijā (6. aprīlī) kur
arī dalījos ar baznīcas pienesumu sesijas pārdomās;
(aicināta kā apgabala prāveste) piedalījos Kristus
Dārza pilnsapulcē; “Mēnestiņa” jubilejā; apsveicu
klātesošos Sidrabenes 60 gadu jubilejā; Daugavas
Vanadžu pusdienās, Sidrabenē; vadīju svētbrīdi
Sestdienas skolai; piedalījos Toronto Orpheus kora
koncertā kā lasītāja Erika Ešenvalda “Passion and
Resurrection” komponista klātbūtnē; Sv Jāņa
draudzes Ziemsvētku tirdziņu; vadīju piemiņas
dievkalpojumu Dacei (Maggie) Kārkliņai mūsu
dievnamā; svētbridis Valsts svētku aktam; svētbrīži
Centra penzionāriem.
4. Kalpošana
Sidrabenes nometnē vadīju Bībeles stundas
bērniem, kopā ar māc Dāvi Kaņepu, bet
turklāt tulkoju īsas lūdziņas, kuras
nometņotāji iztēloja dievkalpojumā par tās
nedēļas Bībeles lasījumu. Visiem prieks!
•
Vasaras mēnešos Sidrabenē notika pārrunu
grupa vīriešiem “Home-brewed Theology”.
Ir lūgums to atkārtot arī šo gadu.
•
Oktobrī piedalījos LELBāL laju
dievkalpojumu vadītāju kursos kā referente.
Tēma: garīgās dzīve piekopšana. Pasniedzu
trīs lekcijas. Bija sabraukuši kursanti no
visas pasaules: Austrālijas, Vācijas,
Anglijas, Belģijas, Īrijas, arī no Kanadas un
ASV. Šis bija svētības pilns piedzīvojums,
kam būs turpinājums. Tādā kopsakarībā
piedalījos kursā Waterloo: “Tending to the
Holy” (18.-20. jūnijā), kur referents
iepazīstināja ar to, kā ikdienu saredzēt kā
garīgumu pilnu.

divus rakstus 2014. gada Baznīcas Gada
Grāmatai: “”Sola scriptura!” un “Ciešanu
laiks – pārdomu laiks.”

Sagatavots raksts par ekumēni Kanadas
katoļu laikrakstam (2013.g. Advente)
šo gadu izmēģinājām kaut ko jaunu –
bērniem parastās eglītes vietā piedāvājām
iespēju piedalīties Adventa laika
nodarbībās. Tās vadīja gan nometnes
komitejas pārstāvi, gan arī citi pieaicināti
palīgi. Esot jāatkārto!
Šeit arī ietilpst amata darbi kā kristības,
iesvētības, laulības, bēres. Uz tiem ir norādīts
atsevišķi
Parasti pavadu apmēram 5-6 stundas ar katru
laulāmo pāri pirms laulībām, pārrunājot sadzīves
jautājumus, kā arī to, kā Dieva svētība un vadība
piedzīvojama laulībā. Kopā veidojam laulību
kārtību. Parasti esmu arī klāt uz “mēģinājumiem”.
Bēres pašas prasa pilnu dienu, bet tam nāk klāt
tikšanās ar piederīgiem, lai sagatavotos izvadīšanai,
bet arī lai sniegtu palīdzību. Pēdējos gados atrodu,
ka ir labāk satikties ar piederīgiem viņu mājās.
Nēdēļās kad ir bēres parasti nav iespējams
sarunāt tikšanos ar cilvēkiem, izņemot, protams,
kad steidzīga vajadzība.
Caurskatot savu iepriekšējo gada kalendāru
konstatēju, ka tiekos ar cilvēkiem pastorālos
nolūkos vismaz vienu dienu nedēļā, bet tam nāk
klāt telefona sarunas, kā arī neformālas pārrunas.
Visa mana kalpošana draudzē, un arī ārpus
mūsu draudzes, ir Kungam, un viņa vārdā. Nav
iespējams visu to celt, nedz lūkot patiesi stāvēt klāt
cilvēkiem viņu vajadzībās bez tā, ka veltī krietnu
laiku katru dienu Bībeles lasīšanai, pārdomām un
meditācija, rīta lūgšanā, un klusībā pieminot tos,
kas man pazīstami Dieva priekšā. Kāds mans

kolēgs to sauc par “kāpšanu kalnā” balstoties uz tā,
ko darīja Jēzus – kāpa kalnā, lai būtu viens Dieva
priekšā, tur gūstot spēkus savam darbam. Šajos
laikos mēdz uzsvērt aktīvu darbību, redzēt
konkrētus panākumus un tā pavadīt laiku klusējot,
Dieva priekšā ir svešs jēdziens. Taču esmu
vienmēr saredzējusi, ka garīgās dzīves piekopšana,
tas ir, manas attiecības ar Kungu, ir galvenās spēka
avots manā dzīvē, pildot savu aicinājumu. Tas
nozīmē – piekopt paļāvību, uzticību, kas nav nemaz
tik viegli! Bet es zinu, cik ļoti tas draudzes
locekļiem ir svarīgi, ka tās mācītāja var būt atbalsta
punkts. Tas ir bijis jo sevišķi svarīgi šajā gadā, kad
tik esam pārdomājuši un pārrunājuši ļoti nopietnus
jautājumus draudzē.
pirmo reizi savā nacionālā sinodē tikās
vienas zemes luterānu un anglikāņu
baznīcas pārstāvji. Bija patiesi pacilājošs
piedzīvojums. Diemžēl neviens
nepārstāvēja mūsu draudzi, arī nevienu citu
latviešu draudzi, ka pieder ELCIC, bet es
biju ievēlēta kā viena no Toronto luterāņu
mācītāju pārstāvjiem. Un labi ka tā. Kad
ELCIC tikās savā atsevišķā apspriedē viens
no nozīmīgākiem jautājumiem bija jaunās
satversmes (constitution) pirmais lasījums.
To caurlasot, man par milzīgu pārsteigumu
nāca viena klausula. Tajā bija teikts, ka
draudzes drīkst piederēt tikai vienai
baznīcai. Piederēt citai baznīcai bija
aizliegts. Pie mikrofona pieteicu iebildumu
teiktajam un vēlāk bija vairākas pārrunas ar
satversmes rakstītājiem. Viņiem nebija
ienācis prātā, kādas konsekvences varētu
būt, piemēram etniskām draudzēm kā mūsu
draudzei. Pateicoties labām attiecībām ar
viniem un ar nacionālo bīskapi, man iedeva
iespēju pacelt alternatīvu izvārdojumu
sinodei. To atbalstīja viens no satversmes
autoriem, norādot ka tā bija pārskatīšanās
un aicinot klātesošos pieņemt manu veidotu
izmaiņu. Balsojums bija pārliecinošs, un tā
šī klausule tika mainīta – izņēmums ir
etniskas draudzes, kurām ir piederība citai
Luterāņu Pasaules Federācijas baznīcai.
Viss labi beidzās, bet šis piemērs norādā uz
to, ka ir nepieciešams mums aktīvāk
piedalīties to baznīcu dzīvē, kurām mēs
piederam. Mēs nevaram atļauties būt
pasīvi. Pie tam, draudzei nav veselīgi sevi
noslēgt no tās baznīcas, kurai tā pieder. Mēs
varam tik ļoti daudz mācities viens no otra
un tā pastiprināt to darbu uz kā mēs esam
aicināti!
5. Cits
•
Vēl joprojām apgabala prāvesta pienākumi
prasa papildus laika atdevi: piemēram,
mācītāja ievešana draudzē ir vairāk par
ierašanos dievkalpojumā vien. Ir jāatbild
jautājumiem, jādod padoms, pat jāmeklē
apsveikuma velte, un jādomā ko, un kā
apsveikt. Ir arī citi piemēri, bet aicinu jūs
atnākt uz apgabala konferenci, ja vēlaties
uzzināt vairāk informāciju!

tomēr galvenais, kas ir pieprasījis ļoti daudz
laika praktiski, un pārdomājot, ir bijis mūsu
draudzes nākotnes jautājums, konkrēti –
dievnama evtl. pārdošana. Esmu
sagatavojusi vairākus rakstus, tikusies
vairākkārt ar cilvēkiem (to starpā vietējo
councillor, Krystyn Wong-Tam, vietējo
anglikāņu bīskapu) pārrunājot alternatīvas
iespējas un tikusies trīs reizes (divas no tām
kopā ar padomes pārstāvjiem) ar bīsk.

Convention. Tas bija vēsturisks notikums –
Vēlreiz pateicos jums, mīlie Sv Andreja draudzes
saimes ļaudis par atbalstu, uzticību un darbošanos
līdz, pildot mūsu svēto aicinājumu! Noslēdzot
vēlos citēt Arnolda Lūša vārdus, ka tik ļoti
atspoguļo Mateja evanģelija Kalna sprediķa saturu,

Gads apritējis un jādod ziņojums par pagājušā,
2013, gada financiālām aktivitātēm. Tā cerēju, ka
2013 gads noslēgsies ar citādiem rezultātiem nekā
iepriekšējos gados. Bet, diemžēl, atkal jāziņo ka
deficits paaugstinājies, un par diezgan lielu summu.
Iztrūkums būtu vēl augstāks, ja būtu veikti
labojumi baznīcai, kas tiešām ir tik ļoti
nepieciešami. Ienākumi lielā mērā sarukuši, tas nav
palīdzējis. Jāpiemin, ka 2013. gadā gandrīz visa
Sidrabenes pārvaldnieka alga tika segta no
Sidrabenes. Tas bijis liels atvieglojums draudzei.

darbvede Sarma Gaide. Sekretāres Anita Bredovska
ar Ingrīdu Vairogu. Altāra greznošanu pārzinājusi
Balva Kūla-Bredovska un Rita Ziediņa. Rita arī
rūpējusies par altāra segu uzklāšanu un altāra
sakārtošanu dievkalpojumiem. Par ziedu
sakārtojumiem sarīkojumos un uz altāra svētku
reizēs gādājušas Edīte Zariņa un Elizabete Ludvika.
Paldies viņām un visam pārējām dāmu komitejas
loceklēm par lielo darbu. Vēl pateicība arī Ritai
Ziediņai par līdzdalību un palīdzību dāmu
komitejas darbā, īpaši par telpu sakārtošanu un
galdu salikšanu
sarīkojumiem un svētdienu
kafijām.
Janvārī, labi izdevušās pankūku brokastis ar
izvēli no sešām dažādām pankūku šķirnēm un
garšīgām piedevām. Paldies visām cepējām un
palīdzēm pie apkalpošanas un trauku mazgāšanas.
Februārī klājām galdu bēru kafijai mūžībā
aizgājušai dāmu komitejas loceklei Rasmai Gailei.

Draudzes kasiere
Dāmu komitejas pārskats 2013. gadam
Dāmu komitejā darbojas 12 aktīvas locekles, ar
prieku apsveicam mūsu jauno dāmu komitejas
locekli – Kristu Amoliņu kas pievienojās mūsu
pulciņā. Ar lielāko prieku mēs uzņemām un gaidam
jaunas locekles kas nāktu mums talkā. Mēs

kas piedalījās un palīdzēja; domāju ka pavadījām
jauku pēcpusdienu. Sarīkojums mums deva
$1,283.00 atlikumu.
Oktobrī pēc Pļaujas svētku dievkalpojuma, ko
vadīja māc. I. Gaide, sekoja draudzes pēcpusdiena
lejas zālē. Par cienastu rūpējās Erna Ķivele ar
palīdzēm un bija bagātīgs rudens ražas loterijas
galds Anitas Bredovskas izkārtojumā.
Novembrī notika četras piparkūku cepšanas
talkas. Talkas bija par dienu un arī vakarā, labāka
atsaucība bija par dienu. Mēs izcepām 65 mārciņas
mīklu un ieņēmām $ 934.00. Paldies visiem kas
strādāja cepot piparkūkas un arī pircējiem!!
Šogad laikam pirmo reizi mūsu draudzes
vēsturē nebija bērnu eglīte. 1. Adventes svētdienā
pirms dievkalpojuma tika rīkotas nodarbības
bērniem: piparkūku cepšana, piparkūku mājiņu
dekorēšana, apsveikumu kartiņu gatavošana, svētku
dekorāciju gatavošana kā arī Adventes vaiņagu
gatavošana pieaugušiem. Pēc tam sekoja
dievkalpojums.
Decembrī mēs arī sagādājam svētku ziedus un
apsveikuma kartiņas Kristus Dārza iemītniekiem.
Paldies Edītei Zariņai par sagādātiem ziediem un
kartiņām. Ilgus gadus kartiņas rakstīja L. Paukšena
kundze, bet patlaban viņa to vairs nevar izdarīt.
Sirsnīgs paldies viņai par lielo darbu.
Mūsu draudzes locekļi tiek apsveikti dzimšanas
dienās sākot ar 75, 80, 85 un 90 gadiem. Pēc 90
gadiem tad tiek apsveikti katru gadu. Šo darbu veic
Līga Gaide, viņai sirsnīgs paldies par šo skaisto
apsveikšanu.
Dāmu komiteja ar ziedojumiem ir atbalstījusi:
Toronto latviešu skolu bibliotēku ($200), Daily
Bread Food Bank($200), Scott Mission ($200),
Star Santa Claus Fund ($200)
un projektam
„Priecīgās pēdas” ($500).
Uzņēmām viesu mācītāju no Latvijas Gundaru
Ceipi kurš sniedz lekcijas par Brāļu draudžu
kustību Latvijā. Lekcijas bija mūsu Klusā laika
pārdomu ietvaros. Kopā ar padomes locekļiem
klājām kafijas galdu draudzes pilnsapulcē
Ap galdu ar Klusā Laika referentu, māc Dr
Gundaru Ceipi.
Marta mēnesī bija arkārtas pilnsapulce
jo
iepriekšējā sapulcē nebija kvorums, kur mēs arī
klājām kafijas galdu. Lieldienu agrās brokastis, par
ko rūpējās Anita Bredovska ar palīdzēm, izdevās
labi piedalījās ap 100 dalībnieku. Mēs pašas cepām
pīrāgus un dzeltenmaizi kā arī katra dāma un
padomes loceklis atnesa krāsotas olas.
Maija mēnesī dāmu komiteja piedalījās
Sidrabenes 60 gadu jubilejas svinībās palīdzot
servēt svētku pusdienas.
Jūnija mēnesī dažas no dāmu komitejas
loceklēm piedalījās māc. D. Kaņepa ievešanā amatā
Hamiltonas Kristus draudzē un apsveica ar
ziediem.
Vasaras mēnešos mēs savu darbību pārtaucam
un ejam „pelnītā atpūtā”. Savu darbību atsākam
septembrī ar pusdienām Sidrabenē. Paldies visiem
Sirsnīga pateicība draudzes locekļiem par dāmu
komitejas atbalstīšanu.

• 1. jūlijā Sidrabenē notiks Vasaras Vaiņaga
svinības, ievadot Hamiltonas Dziesmu svētkus.
ATBALSTĪT: Pagaišo vasaru mazo bērnu
iemīļotais plunčbaseins Sēnīte nedarbojās jo bija
nepieciešami uzlabojumi lai tā atbilstu jauniem
valdības ūdens drošības noteikumiem, uzlabojumi
kas izmaksās $20,000. Tomēr Sidrabenes pārvalde
ir apņēmusies Sēnīti šovasar atdzīvināt. Līdzekļu
vākšana ir jau ieņēmusi $5580. Ja katrs bijušais
nometņotājs ziedotu $100 šim nolūkam, mērķi
viegli sasniegtu. lai saņemtu ziedojuma kvīti, čeki
rakstāmi St. Andrews Ev. Lutheran Latvian Church,
re Senite
PIELIKT ROKU:
• Pavasara talka notiek 26. aprilī;
• Jāņu talka notiek 14. jūnijā, lai sagatavotos uz
Jāņiem un dziesmu svētku viesiem;
• Šogad papildus palīdzība būs nepieciešama lai
piekārtotu nolauztos zarus pēc decembra ledus
vētras.
Tomēr jānorāda ka Sidrabene ir aktīva visu cauru
gadu. Pievienotais saraksts no saimnieka liecina cik
daudz un dažādas organzācijas Sidrabeni labprāt
izmanto savām nodarbībām.
Visi draudzes locekļi pazīs Sidrabeni kā zaļu
patvērsmi no vasaras karstuma un pilsētas drūzmas.
Un patiesi Sidrabene ir labi apmeklēta pa siltiem
mēnešiem. 2013. g. 25. maijā Sidrabene atzīmēja
60. pastāvēšanas gadus, ar pilnu dienas programusākot ar dievkalpojumu brīvdabas baznīcā, bocce
turniru, gārdām pusdienām Sidrabkalna lielā zālē,
mākslinieku tirdziņš, paņel diskusija un vakara
bale.
22. jūnijā Sidrabenē pulcējās vairāk ka 400
Jānu bērni. Vasaras mēnešos dievkalpojumi notika
brīvdabas baznīcā iz mēnesi, bet jūlijā katru
svētdienu, pa bērnu nometnes laiku. Augustā
padome noturēja savu gadskārtējo plānošanas sēdi
Sidrabenē, pēc dievkalpojuma. Pēdējais vasaras
dievkalpojums notika 22. septembrī; tam sekoja
Dāmu komitejas rīkotās rudens pusdienas. Sezonu
noslēdza ar Oktoberfest vakaru 14. septembrī, kur
spēlēja iecienītais Kičineras danču kapelis ‘The
Saxons’.
Aprūpēt Sidrabenes īpašumu prasa milzīgu
darbu. Izsakam pateicību Sidrabenes saimniekam
Andrejam Grinbergam par izcilo atdevu. Viņam
neatsverams palīgs ir Vilis Kleperis, kas visu
vasaru griež zālaju un izpalīdz arī ar citiem
projektiem. Juris Eglītis ko-ordinē kafejnīcas
darbību. Paldies viņiem un daudziem citiem kas
pieliek roku. Sidrabenes padome, Valža Kauliņa
ilggadīgā vadībā, gādā lai viss nepieciešamais
veiksmīgi rit. Izsakam visiem dziļu pateicību!
Pagaišo gadu divās talkās tika uzbūvētas
vairākas jaunas ārējās durvis Sidrabenes ēkām, 20
jauni ‘piknik’ galdi, jauni skatuves pakāpieni
Sidrabkalna lielai zālei, kā ari jaunas trepes kalnā
aiz brīvdabas skatuves. Rudens malku talka ir
vienmēr labi apmeklēta un nepieciešama lai ievāktu
malku abam krāsnīm kas apsilda lielo ēku un arī
saimnieka māju. Talkās arī tiek veikti mazāki darbi,
gan vides apkopšana un apstādīšana, gan dažādi
labojumi un piekārtošana.

Šī gada vasarā, Sidrabenē gāja jauki, skaisti,
lustīgi......kā iet nometnēs. Četras nedēļas jūlijā un
augustā kur bērni varēja priecāties, skriet un veidot
atmiņas. Nodarbības bija visādas un katrai nedēļai
sava īpaša tēma. "Katru dienu citi svētki" nedēļā
bērni svinēja Ziemassvētkus, Jāņus un citus
svētkus. "Jauns un traks" nedēļā nodarbībās gājām
ačgāni un ēdām vakariņas no rīta. Katru nedēļu
bija kristīgā apmācība ko vadīja Māc. Ilze,
peldēšanas mācības un rokdarbi. Kā jau katru
vasaru bija Bērnu Svētki kā arī Sporta Svētki kur
ciemojās Saulaines nometne. Viņi atbrauca sportot
kā arī pavadīt nedēļas nogali.

Sidrabenes bērnu nometnes komitēja gribētu
pateikties vadītājiem, strādniekiem, saimniekam
Andrejam Grinbergam un Vilim Klepeŗa kungam
kuri ar lustu un sajūsmi palīdzēja izpildīt
programmu un nogādāt bērniem prieku šo vasaru.
Īpaši šo vasaru svinējām Sidrabenes 60.g.
jubilēju. Gatavojoties svinībām, skatījamies
Sidrabenes archīvos un atradām kaut ko
interesantu. Mācitāja Ādolfa Čopa atmiņas par
Sidrabeni. Ar rakstāmmašīnu uzdrukāts,
garumzīmes un ļipiņas ierakstītas ar tintszīmuli
sākām lasīt Māc. Čopa atstāstījumus par Sidrabenes
iesākumiem.
Mācītājs rakstīja ka draudze gribēja
"noorganizēt bērniem vasara nometni" kur bērni
varētu sportot, būtu ārā svaigā gaisā kā arī piedāvāt
vietu draudzes locekļiem satikties pa vasaru un
baudīt dabu. Māc. Čops turpina rakstīt par kā tas
viss notikās; draudze nopirka īpašumu, darbojās
(vai nē) ar kaimiņiem, nopirka tramvāja vagonu
ēdamzālei, iegādājās galdus, soļus, dzelzs gultas
u.t.t.
Bija interesanti lasīt arī sekojošo…
"Kad īpašums bija nopirkts un mēs sākām to
apsaimniekot, nebijām vēl izdomājuši kā īpašumu
nosaukt. Atrast piemērotu vārdu nebija nemaz
viegli. Mūsu bērnu nometnes pirmās vasaras
komandants ieminējās "Sidrabeni." Pie sī
nosaukuma tad ari palikām. Tas izrādījās ļoti
piemērots. Vēlāk vēsturnieks Pēteris Dreimanis ar
"Līdummiesu" gādību uzrakstīja apcerējumu par
Sidrabeni, nobeidzot to ar apm. šādiem vārdiem;
"Tāpat kā Sidrabenes pils bija pēdējais Zemgaļu
cietoksnis simtsgadu karā, tā lai Sidrabenes bērnu
nometne ir latvietības cietoksnis, glabājot latviešu
valodu un kopjot latviskās tradicijas."
Tagad 60 gadus vēlāk bērni nāk uz Sidrabenes
nometni sportot, priecāties un pavadīt laiku ārā
dabā. Viņi nāk mūža draugus satikt un veidot
atmiņas. Vairākas paaudzes saka ka Sidrabene ir
viņas nometne. Viņi gāja nometnē kā bērni,
ciemojās kā vecāki un daudz tagad pat kā
vecvecāki. Viņi nāk atpakaļ uz to vietu ko viņi visi
mīļ. Tā ir tā vieta ko Māc. Čops paredzēja, gribēja
un nosauca par Sidrabeni.

Mīļā draudze!
Palīdzība Latvijai komiteja 2013. gadā turpināja
gādāt par palīdzību mūsu māsu draudzēm un citiem
pasākumiem Latvijā. Kā vienmēr, veidojām mūsu
līdzekļu vākšanas pasākumus tādus, kas iesaista un
apvieno – mūsu draudzes locekļus ar ārpus
draudzes atbalstītājiem, un katrā ziņā iesaista
jaunus, vecus, un visus tos pa vidu. Komitejā
darbojās Elizabete Ludvika, Aija Mazsīle, Andris
Rubenis, Erika Yost, Auseklis Zaķis un šo rindu
autore Anete Ivsiņa. Gada otrajā pusē Liliana
Stārasta, kas ieguldījusi palīdzības darbā tik daudz
laika un enerģijas, pārgāja uz mūsu atbalstītāju
loku. Toties atgriezās Grietiņa Langina, un rudenī
ar jaunām svaigām idejām un iespējām klāt nāca
Janīna Fogele un Larisa Gūtmane.
2013. gadā turpinājām gādāt par to, lai draudzei
būtu noslēgti līgumi ar mūsu māsu draudzēm un
tām organizācijām, kam sūtam ziedojumus.
Tādējādi sekojam Kanādas valdības prasībām. Visi
līgumi tagad ir nokārtoti, izņemot ar Iļģuciema
Sieviešu cietumu. Ieslodzījuma vietu pārvalde ilgi
risināja pārrunas, ieteica redakciju līguma tekstā,
bet nesen beidzot paziņoja, ka līgumu neparakstīs.
Saprotams, kamēr līguma nav, neesam ziedojumus
cietumam sūtījuši – par ko sāp sirds. Iļģuciema
cietuma bērnu namam mūsu atbalsts tiešām
Iedomājaties tās atmiņas kas veidosies nākošos
60 gados!!

palīdzētu. Ziemassvētkos nosūtījām bērniem
dāvanas, ko mums palīdzēja nokārtot Maija Zaķe
no Durbes draudzes (ar kuru mums ir līgums).
Pašlaik meklējam veidu, kā varētu palīdzību
turpināt – varbūt ar māsu draudžu palīdzību.
Jūsu labsirdība un devīgums palīdzēja
daudziem Latvijā. Jūsu ziedojumi 2013. gadā
atbalstīja mūsu māsu draudzes Daudzevā, Durbē un
Zemītē ar $3,500, Zupas virtuvi Rīgā ar $2,900,
Zvannieku bērnu namu ar $1,900. Māsu draudzēs
trūcīgākie – vecākie un daudzbērnu ģimenes –
saņēma Ziemassvētku dāvanu grozus, un bērni, kas
citādi nevarētu to atļauties, tika uz vasaras
nometnēm. Vēl vairāk, jūs ziedojāt arī ratiņkrēslus
un citus palīglīdzekļus, ko varējām nosūtīt un kas
ievērojami atvieglināja dzīvi tiem, kam grūti
pārvietoties. Šie palīglīdzekļi nonāca draudžu
īpašumā (nevis personīgā), kas nozīmē, ka tos varēs
lietot vairāki cilvēki, kam ir grūtības.
Lai vāktu līdzekļus, mēs rīkojām vairākus
pasākumus – un mēs ļoti rūpējāmies, lai tie būtu...
cool... Kolka Cool? – Decembra sākumā izrādījām
Latvijas filmu Kolka Cool , interesantā vietā,
CineCycle. Liela un mīļa pateicība Mārai Rāviņai
un Larisai Gūtmanei par viņu lielo atsaucību un
darbu - un, protams, Jurim Poškum, filmas
režisoram, kurš atļāva mums šo filmu izrādīt!
Reklamējām šo filmas izrādi gan latviešiem, gan
plašākai kanādiešu publikai, un esam lepni, ka tādā
veidā popularizējām latviešu kultūru. Ceram
turpināt Latvijas filmu izrādes. Turklāt bija
brīnišķīgi sadarboties ar LNJAK – to arī ceram
turpināt.
Pirms Kolkas, rīkojām vairākus citus
pasākumus, kas – katrs savā veidā – aizkustināja
mūs pašus un iesaistīja citus. 2013. gada janvārī
notika dzejas pēcpusdiena Pa piena ceļu bērni nāk,
kas radošā un interesantā veidā tik tiešām saveda
kopā visas paaudzes, no bērniem līdz vecvecākiem
– un visus pa vidu. Aprīlī godinājām Zigi Miezīti.
Grūti atrast vārdus, lai aprakstītu Ziga vietu un
lomu latviešu sabiedrībā. Esam ļoti pateicīgi
Solveigai Miezītei un visai viņas ģimenei – par
iespēju rīkot Ziga godināšanu, un par ļoti devīgiem
ziedojumiem palīdzības darbam Latvijā. Sirsnīga
pateicība arī Egilam Fogelim, Andrim Rubenim un
Aldim Suksem. Tradicionālās Ģimenes dienas
brokastis arī izdevās lieliskas – liela pateicība
Lilianai Stārastei un visai viņas ģimenei, Ivaram,
Annai un Andrim, par jauko noskaņu, un par to, ka
viss ritēja tik gludi! Kur nu vēl gardie ēdieni –
paldies Astrīdai Liepiņai, Līgai Gaidei, Inesei

PASTOR’S REPORT
An appropriate introduction to my annual report is to express thanks to all those who have provided the necessary support for our congregation’s spiritual life. Every one has made their unique contribution in their field and deserves acknowledgement for their contribution to the blessings that emerge from our common task. The congregation council and executive, with chair Voldemars Innus, vice-­‐chairs Karlis Blums, Skaidrite Leja, Ingrida Vairogs, secretaries Aija Mazsilis and Gundega Melli, as well as the assistant treasurer, Janis Tannis. In addition, our administrator, Sarma Gaide, and custodian Rita Ziedina, who works behind the scenes but is always ready to step forward to assume additional responsibilities. Our churchwardens and their team leader Guntis Berzins, Maija Kuze who continues to find readers for our services, Elizabete Ludviks, Balva Kula-­‐Bredovskis and Edite Zarina for the altar flowers and to our ladies auxiliary with their chair Inta Briedis. Our music director and organist, Davids Smits, and from this year, choir leader Vaira Gertners. And in the summer months, a particular thank you to our property manager in Sidrabene, Andrejs Grinbergs, and the Sidrabene community for their continued support, even to planting in the outdoor church.
This year I have divided my report according to the work we are called to do as a congregation: worship, teaching (or learning), witnessing, service, and other. The latter includes participation in Toronto Lutheran and Anglican clergy ministerials and a brief reference to my duties as area dean, and relationships with the wider church.
1. Worship
Reflecting and preparing Sunday worship including sermon preparation are what probably absorb the largest part of time. This includes leading worship, a process that demands a remarkable amount of energy. And that is only 20
right, as gathering for worship is the central event of any congregation’s life. There the Word is heard, in words, music, the space, the people gathered, and in the silence, and the community is strengthened through the sacraments. year lectionary cycle used by the main liturgical churches. With Advent 2013, when I marked thirty years of ministry as a pastor, I began my eleventh journey through this cycle. This year, the year of Matthew, we will spend more time on the Sermon on the Mount than the lectionary permits.

worship every Sunday in Latvian, and twice a month in English, at the same time. Together with my colleague, we have noticed that these English language services have not developed as we had hoped, for a number of possible reasons, and we would like to have conversations with those who attend or might like to attend to discuss possible alternatives. On the other hand, an unexpected bonus has been a growing sense of feeling comfortable in St John’s.
A deeply moving and hopeful sign of deep faith is the way our congregation members respond to the invitation to come to the altar to receive communion. Almost everyone comes to receive this sign of God’s grace and the presence of Christ. We customarily have two services a month (in Latvian) with communion, with more around feast days. However, it concerns me that we continue to have Sunday worship without both elements: Word and Sacrament. Having communion rarely is a remnant of mid to late nineteenth-­‐century practice in all churches, except the Roman Catholic, but it is now becoming normative, even in Latvian Lutheran congregations outside Latvia. to return to the practice of the church of having both Word and Sacrament each Sunday. I will happily engage in conversation around this.

The level of cooperation experienced with those who lead our congregation’ s music ministry, and our churchwardens, is very reassuring. Not only is this a support for me, but it enhances the congregation’ s experience of worship. We might add to this our joyful children’s Advent service where we were delighted by the added contribution of the Latvian Saturday school kokletaji, led by Marisa Zubans and Viktors Kulnieks. Thank you!

Our organist has recorded all the services since fall 2013. We hope that these, together with other recordings presently stored in the church basement, including concerts, will be digitized and uploaded to the “cloud”.

Similarly, a couple of years ago we began holding services, “The Gathering”, once a month (from fall to spring) at 5pm on Sundays. Those began as a result of requests from younger members of the congregation. These services were lively, created and led by a team, each taking charge of one aspect. Working as a team meant that there was the time needed to prepare complex worship with questions and responses, readings and reflections and a different kind of music from the usual, as well as around six hours to prepare a well-­‐
presented, artistic power-­‐point presentation that contained the order of worship. Sadly, notwithstanding the positive response of worshippers, we have had to put this on hold for the time being, since spring 2013 as former team members are no longer able to commit to organization and leadership.

it was a joy to share worship with Hamilton Christ’s Latvian at a joint service in Sidrabene.

I have noticed that a relatively small proportion of campers parents attend worship on Sundays during camp. This year they lost a wonderful opportunity as our campers presented lively interpretations of the Bible story we had explored each week and so were not able to hear from their children about new insights into faith. I hope the camp committee will be able to remind parents that we would really like them to join us on Sundays.
With a view to the future, Rev Kristbergs and I have met to outline a possible plan for cooperation should our congregation vote to sell our church building and share St John’s facilities. Representatives from each council had suggested that each congregation take responsibility in turn for one Sunday. Our proposal would be that on ordinary Sundays, St John’ s would lead worship on the 1st 21
and 3rd Sunday of the month while we would take the 2nd and 4th .

In addition to this, I sense a considerable, and as yet not fully developed potential, for Sidrabene not only during summer months. Based on the experience of my first congregation in England where they, too, had a country property. Worshippers travelled an average of one hour each way, once a month, to come. They were welcomed with refreshments on arrival, and after worship, had lunch together. Following this were events: a discussion group, talk, concert or other offerings and in the meantime, there were activities for children. People tended to leave after tea. This is a long time ago, but based on conversations I have had, offering something similar in Sidrabene might bear rich fruit. Our community in Sidrabene have always been very supportive and now that we have a younger generation assuming responsibilities, this might give them, too, the opportunity to develop a different kind of expression of faith life. What a blessing this would be.

In the summer I presented a power-­‐point and gave a talk on the Latvian Lutheran Church Abroad (LELBaL) plenary in Israel. To this were added insights from our trip to Jordan. I can still feel the impact of this pilgrimage when I prepare sermons.

At camp I led Bible studies with the campers, helped by Rev Davis Kaneps. I also translated sketches that the children presented in Sunday worship. What a joy!

In October I was one of the presenters at the LELBaL lay worship leaders course in Washington DC. The theme of my three talks was Spiritual growth. Attendees came from across the globe: Australia, Germany, England, Belgium, Ireland, as well as Canada and the USA. This was such a source of joy and blessing and we anticipate the course will continue. In that connection I attended a course offered by the Mennonite Conciliation Service in Waterloo, (June 18-­‐20): “Tending to the Holy” where the presenter provided insights into how the spiritual can be seen in every facet of everyday life.

this year, given that we no longer have Sunday school, we offered that age-­‐group a Sunday afternoon of Advent oriented activities. This was led by members of the camp committee, as well as other helpers. I am told this needs to be repeated!
This Lent you will have the opportunity to come to church on Wednesday evenings, at 7pm, for a reflective service: prayer and silence, readings, music, and a couple of hymns, all around the theme: “change and transformation, but everywhere Christ is present.”
2. Learning

We once again began Lent in 2013 with reflections. This year they were led by Rev Dr Gundars Ceipe who shared insights around the role of the Moravian Brethren in the development of an expression of Christianity that spoke to Latvians, as well as a sense of nationhood. We were also introduced to lesser-­‐known Moravian hymns. Many thanks to the ladies’ auxiliary for their support!

Confirmation class continues, although we have no-­‐one registered for confirmation in 2015. A quick scan of the database shows why: we have only a very small handful in that age-­‐group.

Adult preparation for baptism: it was a delight to help Janis Ozollapa on his journey of faith towards baptism this year. We spent many hours together in conversation.

Duties as area dean continue to make calls on my time: for example, installing a pastor in a congregation is more than turning up on the day. Questions need to be answered, advice given, even gifts have to be thought of and bought, and time spent on how and what to say. There are plenty of other examples, so I invite you to come and attend our area conference to find out more!

the main issue that has demanded a considerable amount of time, both practically, and in reflection, has been the question of our future, specifically, the possibility of a sale of our building. So I have written several pieces, have had several meetings (including with the local councillor, Krystyn Wong-­‐
Tam, and the local Anglican bishop) to discuss possible alternatives, and have met three times with bishop Michael Pryse (twice with members of the council).

I continue to foster a good working relationship with the Estonian congregation leaders – I try to find time to be in church on Thursdays when they are there.
•
clergy have to attend their clergy meetings, and so I have attended four of the Toronto area Lutheran clergy, and church meetings, and two local Anglican clergy meetings.

From July 3-­‐6 I attended the ELCIC National Convention. This was an event of truly historical proportions: it was the first time representatives of national Lutheran and Anglican churches had met together for their national synods. This was a joyous experience. Sadly, there was no representative from our congregation, but I had been elected as one of the representatives of the Toronto area clergy. This was a good thing. When the ELCIC delegates met in their separate business meeting, one of the major agenda items was the first reading of a new constitution. In preparing for this, one particular section came as a huge surprise to me. This stated that congregations may be members of only one church. Membership of more than one church was prohibited. I went to the microphone to express concern at this and to ask for clarification. I later had conversations with the drafters. During these it became apparent that this was an oversight on their part: the intention had never been to place ethnic congregations in the position of having to choose which church body to belong to. Thanks to a good relationship 4. Service •
This included pastoral events such as baptisms, confirmation, marriages, and funerals. •
I usually spend 5-­‐6 hours with each couple prior to their wedding in conversation around their relationship and the place of faith and an awareness of God’ s blessing in their marriage. We also create the order of service. I usually need to attend the rehearsal as well. Funerals usually take a complete day, but added to this is time spent with the family both to provide me with background material, but also to provide pastoral support. In recent years I have found it better to meet with the family in their home.

In weeks when there are funerals, there is usually no other time available for calls, except, of course, in emergencies. •
reviewing last year’s planner, I have noted that I spend at least a day a week on pastoral care, but to that come telephone conversations and informal chats.
•
all my service and ministry both for the congregation and outside, is for the Lord, and in his name. It is impossible to carry this, or to be truly present to someone in a time of need without devoting a portion of each day to meditating on Bible passages, reflecting, praying, including putting those I know of and their concerns before God. One of my colleagues calls this “climbing the mountain”, a reference to Jesus’ custom of climbing a mountain, or hill, to be alone before God thereby finding strength for his ministry. Nowadays we tend to put the emphasis on visible results, and active input, so the idea of spending time in silent reflection before God may seem a strange concept. However, I have always known that tending to my spiritual life, that is, my relationship with the Lord, is the main source of strength in my life for the good of my ministry. That means developing trust, letting go, none of which is particularly easy. But I know how important it is to members of a congregation to know that they can find a place of support in their pastor. This has been particularly important this year during our journey of exploration, discussion and sharing of very important questions for the life of the congregation.

with them and the National bishop, I had the opportunity to present an amendment to the motion. One of the original drafters spoke in support of my amendment, indicating that this had been an oversight and inviting delegates to support my amendment. There was a substantial vote in support of my amendment and so the motion now has an additional phrase, that the exception to this are ethnic congregations that belong to a partner church of the Lutheran World Federation. All ended well, but this example serves as a reminder of the need to take seriously our participation in the life of the wider church to which we belong. We cannot afford to be passive. In addition, it is not healthy for a congregation to cut itself off from the church to which it belongs: we can learn so much from each other, and so gain strength for the work to which we have been called.
SIDRABENE RETREAT CENTRE
Most congregation members will be aware of Sidrabene as a welcome green oasis offering an escape from the heat of the city during the summer months. Certainly it is a busy place from spring until fall. This past year Sidrabene celebrated it’s 60th anniversary on the May long weekend, with day of activities for all ages, including a wonderful dinner in the Great Hall, interesting displays and a panel discussion, craftsmen selling their wares and an evening dance. June 22, Jani was celebrated by over 500 revellers. Services were held in the outdoor church for the four Sundays that camp was in session, as well as monthly throughout the months of May June, August and September. Octoberfest was the theme of the closing social event September 14, when the crowd was entertained by The Saxons, a traditional German band from the Kitchener area.
It takes a lot of work to care for the property, and we are enormously grateful for the excellent job done by our property manager Andrejs Grinbergs. His indispensible chief volunteer is Vilis Kleperis, who does most of the grass cutting through the summer months. Juris Eglitis helps coordinate the cafe operation. Other volunteers also contribute immense amounts of time and skills to make collective improvements. The Management Board, under the long-­‐time leadership of Valdis Kaulins, is dedicated and productive in ensuring that all runs smoothly. This year two work bees built several exterior doors for the main hall, assembled 20 new picnic tables and new stage risers for the big hall, as well as replacing the crumbling stairs behind the outdoor stage. The fall wood bee is both popular and vital for the harvesting of wood for the two wood-­‐fired boilers that service the community hall and the property manager’s house. Other smaller tasks that are accomplished with volunteer labour include painting and repairing, as well as landscape maintenance.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Another year has passed and it is time to report once again on the congregation’s financial affairs. I had hoped at the end of 2013 to be in a position to report a different result than previous years. Unfortunately, I have to report that once again our deficit has grown, and significantly. The deficit would be even higher if certain necessary repairs to the church had gone ahead. Income has also fallen substantially, which has not helped. I should note that in 2013 the salary of the Property Manager for Sidrabene has been largely paid for by Sidrabene itself, thus lightening the burden on the congregation.
This past year the congregation has been the benficiary or several large behests: 550 Canadian Pacific Railway shares worth 69,960.00, received from the estate of a congregation member who wishes to remain anonymous. $7489.42 was also received from the estate of the late Imants Kauss, and a partial payment of $200,000 has been received from the estate of the late Mr. Polkmans. We remember these deceased congregation members with deep gratitude for their generosity.
VISIT:
•Erics Malderis will be running the cafe again this year, every weekend starting with the Victoria Day weekend;
•Jani will be celebrated June 28, •July 1 will be the Folklore Day, Vasaras Vainags, a sampler of performers who will be participating in the Hamilton Song Festival the following week.

SUPPORT:
•Last year the children’s splash pad was not operational because it could not meet new health regulations without substantial upgrades. These upgrades will cost $20,000. The Management Committee is determined to have the pad operational by summer. A fundraiser has already raised $5580 and will resume next month. If every former campers were to donate $100 we could meet out goal easily. All donations are tax deductible; cheques can be made out to St. Andrews Latvian Lutheran church re: Senite.
But Sidrabene is a centre of activity year round; Attached is a list from the property manager that itemizes all the organizations that make use of the property throughout the year.

typos), we started reading Pastor Cops’ first-­‐hand account of the beginnings of Sidrabene. Pastor Cops wrote that the congregation was interested in organizing a summer camp for kids where they could do sports and be outside in the fresh air. This would also provide an opportunity and a meeting place for the members of the congregation to convene during the summer and enjoy nature. Pastor Cops continued by outlining how all that came to be; the congregation purchased the lot, they had to work with their neighbours (or not), they bought an old Toronto TTC streetcar to use as a mess hall, buying tables, benches, metal beds etc. Also very interesting was the following excerpt from his writing (translated and paraphrased from the original Latvian): “Once the lot had been purchased and we had started working the land, we realized that we still hadn’t decided on a name for this place. To find an appropriate name wasn’t really that easy to do. The director of our first children’s camp mentioned the name “Sidrabene.” We stayed with this name as it was very appropriate. Later the historian Peteris Dreimanis, as he ended one of his writings, said “Just like Sidrabene was the last Zemgales fortress to fall during the 100 years war, so Sidrabene children’s camp will be a fortress of Latvian heritage, preserving language and cultivating tradition.”
Now 60 years later, kids are coming to Sidrabene to play sports, have fun and spend time outside and appreciate nature. They come to Sid to make life-­‐long friends and create lasting memories. Many generations say that Sidrabene is their camp. They went to Sid as campers, visited as parents and even many of them have returned as grandparents. They come back to the place that they all love. It is the place that Pastor Cops wanted, envisioned and named Sidrabene.
Just think how many more memories will be created in the next 60 years!!

CAMP SIDRABENE
In Sidrabene this year everyone had an exciting, beautiful and fun summer….as one would expect happens at summer camps. For four weeks throughout July and August the kids could run, enjoy and create memories. There were many different activities and each week there was a unique theme. During “Every Day is a Holiday” week the kids celebrated Christmas, Summer Solstice (Jani) and many other holidays. “Wacky Week” involved attending activities dressed backwards and having dinner for breakfast. Each week there were the regular activities such as Christian education run by Pastor Ilze, swimming lessons and arts and crafts. Like every summer we also celebrated Bernu Svetki and Sport Day. Our friends from Saulaine joined us not only for Sport Day, but also spent the whole weekend visiting. The Sidrabene Camp committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the camp leadership, counselors, kitchen staff, Andrejs Grinbergs as well as Mr. Vilis Kleperis. They helped carry out all the programming with enthusiasm and it resulted in so much joy for the kids this summer. This summer was a special one for Sidrabene. We celebrated Sid 60, a special birthday for Sidrabene. In preparing for the festivities this summer, the committee looked into the archives and found something very interesting – the memoirs of former St. Andrew’s Pastor Adolfs Cops. AID TO LATVIA REPORT
Dear congregation members!
The Aid to Latvia committee has continued to off support to sister congregations and other organizations in Latvia in 2013. As in the past, we have shaped our fundraising activities to engage and unify-­‐ our congregations members with supporters outside the congregation, and certainly bringn together all ages. The committee consists of Elizabete Ludvika, Aija Mazsile, Andris Rubenis, Erika Yost, Auseklis Zakis and Aneta Ivsina. Liljana Starasta, who had invested much time and evergy in the past, stepped down from active participation in the committee in the second half of the year, to become one of our supporters. On the other hand, we were pleased to welcome back Grietina Langins and new members Janina Fogele and Larisa Gutmane, with thie fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
One of our priorities for 2013 was to finalize Agency agreements with those organizations we support financially, thus fulfilling the requirements of the Canadian government. All these agreements are now in place, except for one with Ilguciems Women’s Prison. In this instance, lengthy discussions and negotiations around the wording of the agreements still resulted in an inability to successfully reach agreement. Thus, we are in the painful position of not being able to direct funds to this needy cause. At Christmas we were able to provide gifts for the children, through the good offices of Maija Zake of the Durbe congregation, with whom we do have an agency agreement. At present we are still examining ways we can continue to channel support, perhaps through the auspices of our sister congregations.

At Christmas, the most needy in our sister congregations-­‐ the elderly and households with many children-­‐ received gift baskets, and children who would otherwise not have been able to attend, were sent to summer camp. In addition, the wheelchairs and other mobility devices that you donated last year were gratefully received by those who were otherwise immobilized. To ensure that they were used as widely as possible, they were donated to congregations, rather than individuals, so they could be shared.
Last year we organized a range of fundraisers, including a screening in early December of Kolka Cool at Cinecycle, an interesting new venue for us. Huge and heartfelt thanks to Mara Ravina and Larisa Gutmane for arranging and publicizing this event, and of course to the director of the film, Juris Poskum, for permission to screen OUT OF THE COLD REPORT
This year’s Out of the Cold was successful in many ways. Though the day was not attended as well as other years, there were still enough participants for us to be able to look after less fortunate folks and the homeless. The generosity of the congregation continues to be centermost to this initiative. We as a congregation can be proud we were able to give out about 150 bags filled with a variety of items including hygienic goods, candy/
chocolate, socks etc. We also handed out almost 200 sandwiches. We also received support from the following companies: McGregor Socks (donation of socks), Chioviti Banana (donated 2 boxes of bananas), Starbucks (donated use of containers for hot chocolate), European Meats (discounted meat prices), Lister Produce (donated 2 large cases of mandarin oranges). Choosing the last Saturday of the month worked out well as it is the time that the homeless and needy are most vulnerable. Best of all, this event allowed some wonderful networking to take place both within our congregation and outside. Thanks to all that helped in any which way and please support the groups mentioned above, as they were helpful to us. Don’t be afraid to tell them why you are supporting them. The folks we were able to serve were truly thankful and that is the best reward that any of us could ever hope for.

ENGLISH WORSHIP SERVICES
English language services continued during the last year but their frequency was reduced and the result was poor attendance. The time has come to discuss the options for how to continue to service the need of mixed marriages or members of the congregation that do not speak Latvian. Several options exist and will need to be explored by both the church council and those that attend English language services. Options that are available are several. The services can be continued as they have been for the last while. Amalgamating English services with Latvian services and have joint services once or twice a month. The last option that comes to mind is to have the services in Latvian and provide English language bulletins that allow worshippers to follow along. There is a definite need to continue to provide this ministry but the how’s and what’s need to be evaluated. Once they are evaluated an action plan on how to continue this ministry can be rolled out.

his film. We promoted the film to Latvian and Canadian audiences, and are proud and happy at the opportunity to popularize Latvian culture. We hope to repeat this initiative, and are particularly delighted to collaborate with LNJAK, the Latvian Youth organization, a collaboration we hope to continue.
Earlier in the year we organized several other ventures that spoke to us and found a responsive chord in others as well. In January an afternoon of poetry for children, presented in interesting and creative ways, brought together all ages, both as performers and in the audience. In April, we hosted a memorial afternoon for Zigis Miezitis, with a screening of a memorial film from Latvia. It’s hard to express in words his place and significance in Latvian society. We are grateful to Soveiga Miezitis and the rest of his family for their support of this event, and for the generous donations that it garnered for Aid to Latvia. Many thanks also to Egils Fogels, Andris Rubenis and Aldis Sukse for their assistance.
The traditional Mother’s Day breakfast was also well attended and brilliantly organized; many thanks to Liljana Starasts, and her whole family ivars, Anna and Andris for the delightful ambience and for the delicious food. Also deserving our thanks are the rest of the team: Astrida and Indra Liepins, Liga Gaide, Inese Mezulis-­‐Purvs, Imants Purvs, Liga Miklasevics, Suzanne, Karlis and Ausekllis Zakis, Inta and Peteris Kusmanis, Ruta Fogels and Janis Ivsins.

Ko nozīmē nopietna Bībeles lasīšana, nopietna a\eksme pret Bībeli? Baznīcas ļaudis bieži šo -­‐ nepieciešamo nopietno a\eksmi ir aizvietojuši ar kailu bur`skumu. Bur`skums NENORĀDA uz nopietnu a\eksmi pret Bībeli. Dažādas Bībeles interpretācijas metodes norāda uz pašu Bībeles lasītāju, tā a\eksmi pret Dievu, garīgumu, dzīvi . Kādi ir svarīgākie pieturas punk` Bībeles hermenē`kas (izpētes) aesfbā gan vēsturiski, gan pa dažādām mūsu pašu garīgās aesfbas pakāpēm? Kas ir Lec`o Divina? Kārlis Žols ir Ziemeļkalifornijas un Dienvidkalifornijas latviešu lut. draudžu mācītājs, LELBA Rietumu apgabala šī brīža prāvests, Teoloģijas un Sībīrijas atbalsta nozaru vadītājs, Lassalle Kontempla`onsschule Latvijas nodaļas studiju plūsmas dalībnieks. Viņš ir iztulkojis vairākas (11) krisfgu autoru grāmatas no latviešu uz angļu valodu, kas izdotas izdevniecībā "Zvaigzne". Turklāt prāv Žols regulāri sniedz garīgus "retreat" veida sarīkojumus Latvijā. MA grādu viņš ieguvis Holy Names Universitātē Kalifornijā, mācījies Mercy Center Spiritual Directors Instutūtā, Burlingame, Kalifornijā Līdz 2000. gadam mācītājs Rīgas Lutera, Ikšķiles, Garkalnes draudzēs, Stradiņa Klīniskās Universitātes slimnīcas kapelāns, skolotājs Rīgas un Ādažu valdorfa skolās.

•We have a wide array of rental groups that use Sidrabene starting with the Halton District school board that runs two different environmental programs here. Trailhead is for Grade 10 and Bronte Creek Project is for Grade 12 and these programs are here Monday-­‐Friday September -­‐ June and the students get bussed to Sidrabene from Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Georgetown and Acton. This program has been here for over 15 years.
•In the past year we have had 12 different girl guide groups use our facilities on the weekends and these groups include Latvian girl guides as well as groups from Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton and Georgetown.
•We have had 4 different scout groups rent our facilities including Latvian scouts as well as groups from Toronto and Burlington.
•We hosted the Halton Youth Symphony for a weekend retreat.
•2 different Air Cadet groups from Oakville and Burlington had training weekends here.
•We hosted 2 different Yoga retreat weekends. Anandafest and a 24 hour yogathon.
•2 different fitness camps on the weekend were held. One for young girls and one for a hockey team from Milton.
•Have hosted 2 different churches from Toronto and Waterdown here for church picnics.
•On Thursday nights we rent the grounds to a dog training school.
•On Monday and Wednesday nights the grounds are rented to Body Boot Camp fitness class.
•For 4 weeks in the summer the Latvian summer camp is in operation.
•The other sleepover camps in the summer were Camp Bring a Friend. They come for a week and a half and they are based out of Redeemer Bible Church in Niagara Falls.
•Y.F.C. or Youth For Christ is a teenage camp that comes for 4 nights and the majority come from St. Catharines.
•Kids 4 Kids had 2 week long sleepover camps (Camp Kahuna) and 5 week long day camps (Heroes Academy) which was held beside the soccer field.
•Hosted 1 wedding and we have been averaging 1 wedding a year.
•The Kafe was rented out to several individuals for birthday parties, wedding anniversaries and family get togethers. Kristus darzs and Daugavas Vanagi rented the Kafe for several meetings as well. In the past we 29
