MBA Bank Management and Director Conference. As the holidays approach

Each year, on Thursday evening, we honor our MBA Economic Impact Award
recipient. In 2014, we recognize the leadership of State Senator Virgil Smith.
Please join us as we celebrate his contributions to the policies promoting a
vibrant Michigan economy and strong banking industry. Following the dinner
banquet, we’ll host an afterglow reception, always an attendee favorite.

Jim Burson brings a deep knowledge of the financial
services industry as well as a wide range of executive
management and business planning experience
to his position as senior director of Cornerstone
Advisors’ strategic planning practice.
Before joining the Cornerstone team, Jim served
as the executive vice president and chief revenue (operating) officer
of a large regional bank in the Southeast, affording him extensive
insight into the world of retail and commercial banking management
and operations. Specific responsibilities in this role included the
development and implementation of customer and revenue strategies
as well as overall management of retail banking, commercial
banking, agribusiness banking, mortgage services, marketing, cash
management and customer experience. Earlier in his career, Jim served
as principal and co-leader of the banking practice at a Chicago-based
management and technology consulting firm. Jim also held positions of
progressive responsibility in retail bank strategic planning, marketing
and affinity development and sales management at PNC Bank
Corporation. He started his career as a commercial banker. Jim holds a
Master of Management degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School
of Management at Northwestern University.

ANNETTE FLOOD
Annette Flood was appointed director of the
Department of Insurance and Financial Services
(DIFS) by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder effective
November 1, 2013. Prior to her appointment, Director
Flood served as chief deputy director of DIFS and
chief deputy commissioner in the former Office of
Financial and Insurance Regulation.
Prior to her serving as chief deputy director, Director Flood served as
the executive vice president and chief operating officer of American
Physicians Capital, Inc. (APCapital), a publicly traded medical
professional liability insurance provider based in East Lansing, MI.
Before joining APCapital, Director Flood served as senior vice president,
corporate secretary and legal counsel of ProNational Insurance
Company. Director Flood has also held numerous executive level and
legal positions at MEEMIC Insurance Company, PICOM Insurance
Company and Lansing General Hospital.
Director Flood is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and a
registered nurse, and has more than 25 years of experience in the legal,
insurance and health care fields. She received her Bachelor of Science
in nursing from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctorate from
Wayne State University Law School.
EDWARD A. KREI
Ed is a managing director with The Baker Group, an
investment firm based in Oklahoma City, specializing
in services to financial institutions. He performs
advisory services relating to balance sheet and
investment portfolio strategies, risk management and
strategic planning.
A frequent speaker at banking and investment
conferences, Ed has spoken for the Federal Reserve Board, the OCC,
the OTS, the FFIEC, the Conference of State Bank Supervisors,
several Federal Home Loan Banks and state banking and securities
regulatory agencies. He has served as a faculty member of numerous
banking schools, including the Graduate School of Bank Investments

and Financial Management, the ABA National Commercial Lending
Graduate School and the Graduate Schools of Banking at LSU, SMU
and Colorado.
Ed received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in
accountancy from the University of Mississippi and was gold medalist
on the CPA examination in Tennessee. He has served on the boards
of numerous civic and charitable organizations. Ed is a registered
principal with FINRA.
DWIGHT LARSEN
In his current position as vice president of BankValue
Advisory Services, Dwight oversees a division of
United Bankers’ Bank that provides stock valuations,
market analysis, merger and acquisition assistance,
branch analysis, risk management and other
consulting services to community bankers and
their customers in a 14-state area. In addition to
working on client-specific projects, Dwight’s responsibilities include
conducting presentations for individual clients and groups of bankers
on issues covering the above areas as well as various other financial
management and bank regulatory topics. Prior to his current
position, Dwight was a national bank examiner with the Office of
the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and worked from offices in
Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Kansas City.
Dwight is a faculty member, section leader and a member of the
Academic Committee of the Graduate School of Banking in Madison,
Wis. Dwight is also on the faculty of Networks Financial Institute
(NFI), an organization that provides financial services training to state
legislators attending meetings sponsored by the National Conference
of State Legislators (NCSL).

RICHARD F. MARONEY, JR.
Mr. Maroney co-manages the investment banking
division for Austin Associates. Prior to joining the firm
in 1984, he received a bachelor’s degree in business
administration and an MBA from the University of
Toledo. He is the author of numerous articles on mergers
and acquisitions and banking structure, and is a
frequent speaker to banking groups on a wide variety
of topics pertinent to the financial services industry. Having served as an
instructor at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, he has appeared as
a featured speaker at the “Acquire or Be Acquired” national conference
sponsored by Bank Director Magazine. Mr. Maroney holds Series 63 and
79 licenses and is a registered representative of Investment Bank Services,
a registered broker-dealer.
Charles N. McQueen
Charley founded McQueen Financial Advisors, Inc. in
1999 to provide specialized investment and consulting
services to financial institutions. Today, his company
advises clients throughout the United States and
manages investment portfolios with a combined value in
excess of $4 billion.
With more than 20 years of experience, Charley oversees McQueen
Financial Advisors core services of providing investment portfolio
management, asset/liability management, mortgage servicing rights
valuations and tactical consultation. He is a frequent speaker at financial
institution conferences and has provided training and board of director’s
education on a variety of topics. Charley is frequently called on to
provide training for bank and credit union examiners and certified public
accountants.

JAMES M. OLSON
Professor Olson is a senior lecturer at the
Bush School, where he teaches courses on
intelligence, national security, and international
crisis management. He served for more than
25 years in the directorate of operations of the
Central Intelligence Agency, mostly overseas in
clandestine operations. In addition to several foreign
assignments, he was chief of counterintelligence at CIA headquarters
in Langley, Virginia. Professor Olson has been awarded the Intelligence
Medal of Merit, the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, the
Donovan Award, and several distinguished service citations. He is
the recipient of awards from the Bush School and the Association of
Former Students for excellence in teaching. Professor Olson is the
author of Fair Play: The Moral Dilemmas of Spying.
DIANNE SHOVELY
Dianne Shovely is a vice president in the fraud
services division of the financial intelligence
department of Comerica Bank. She serves as the
bank’s fraud training and awareness program
director and is responsible for the development,
coordination and implementation of a national
corporate program that focuses on raising fraud
awareness with Comerica colleagues, customers and the community.
She also oversees the department’s collections and recovery team as
well as the bank’s critical response phone center. She joined Comerica
in 1979 and worked in the bank’s community banking and human
resources departments before joining its audit department in 1989.
She served as manager of the bank’s Texas Fraud Prevention and
Investigative Services Group from 1995 to 1997, before transferring
back to Michigan as manager of the report monitoring group. She is a
certified fraud examiner.
