FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I have very encouraging news regarding little Coco in Year 2.
She is now out of her induced coma and even though she had
temporary post traumatic amnesia, she is now doing much
better. It seems that her spinal injuries have healed well and
her head injuries are also showing pleasing progress. Mobility
will be a problem due to her broken leg and they are still
keeping her as quiet as possible to assist her recovery. Her
maternal and paternal grandparents have arrived in Australia,
which is of great comfort to Coco and her father. The hospital
has indicated that Coco may even be able to go home with
assistance to continue her recovery sometime next week.
Thank you to everyone from our school community for all the
love, concern and support for Coco and her family. It has
been fantastic and has been much appreciated by the family.
TERM 4
WEEK 7
Our hard working Junior School
Council (JSC) had their break up
lunch today, celebrating their
successes over this year. We
believe strongly in student voice
and it is terrific to have so many
students who want to be on the
JSC and make a difference
around the school.
The new Prep/Foundation students will be having their second
transition day next Tuesday and we will be starting our whole
school transition process in the coming days. We feel strongly
that we support each student’s transition into the next year and
make it as smooth and uneventful as possible. As in the past, we
are planning for three opportunities for the children to spend time
in their 2015 class. Miss Elly Stavagna will be taking leave in 2015
and Mrs Jo Sheers will be moving into a literacy support role. We
will also be welcoming four new teachers to OGPS next year - Ms
Kym Morgan, Mr Matthew Anthony, Ms Kate McCracken and Ms
Erin Ward.
Our book packs for next year have arrived so as you pay your
child’s school fees, the book packs will be organised to go home.
If you haven’t yet paid your fees, there is a payment plan if that is
helpful for you. Just see Margaret in the office.
Next Thursday, our Year 6 students will be ‘Walking to The G’, in
support of the State School Relief Fund. This is an annual event
for us and the children really look forward to the challenge of
walking to the hallowed turf of The MCG. Prep to Year 5 will also
be walking back here at school, and it will be a free dress day for
a gold coin donation in support of this worthwhile charity.
Just a reminder that next Friday Nov 28th is the last canteen day
for the year. A huge thankyou to Sophie and her supportive band
of parent helpers. Canteen is a fabulous service for our
community and I know that many of our families appreciate that
we have a healthy and reasonably priced option for school
lunches.
Well that’s all from me for this week
Have a lovely weekend and talk soon.

SPANISH CORNER
STEP INTO SPAIN
This week, It has been great to hear from some students who
enjoyed their experience at the Johnston Street Fiesta last
weekend. The Spanish Club (Hogar Espanol) has existed there
since 1969. Hogar Español translates to Spanish Home and as the
name suggests The Spanish Club’s initial aim was to provide a
home away from home for the Spanish immigrants who settled in
Australia in the late fifties and early sixties. Although this is still a
strong focus of the club, they now also invite the general public to
join and partake in events, excursions, fiestas or a simple night of
tapas and wine through becoming social club members.
This Saturday, 22nd November they are holding a fundraising event
called Step into Spain a night of music, dancing and Spanish
culture. For more information check the website:
http://thespanishclub.net.au
UNIFORM SHOP
The last day the uniform shop will be open for 2014 is Tuesday
25th November.
The uniform shop does not operate in December, and will re-open
on Thursday 22nd January 2015 between 9.30 - 11.00am. There
will be a small price increase next year.
We would like to advise that for the remainder of this year we will
not be supplying made-to-order ribbon flower hairbands. However,
you can still order any of the other lovely hair
accessories,
including fabric flower hairbands, and waterfall
hair ties, as well as Ruby and button and bow hair
elastics.
Thank you for your support!
BENDIGO BANK - SCHOOL BANKING

Christmas Hampers

needy families via Wesley Mission Melbourne.
If you are able to contribute to these hampers,
it would be very much appreciated.

reached the ‘use by’ date.
Collection point is at the office.
Thanking you in anticipation of a generous response.
