Week 10 - Sts Peter and Paul Primary School
Principal: Margaret Pollard [email protected] Phone: 6281 1932 / 6285 1044 / Uniform Shop: 6285 4840 WORDS OF WISDOM Newsletter 2.10 Wednesday, 29 June 2016 Dear Parents and carers, Feast of Saints Peter and Paul We have spent today celebrating our school’s special day in a variety of ways. Our whole Mass, led by our Parish Priest, Father Tony Frey, was a prayerful celebration which was enhanced by beautiful singing from the members of our school choir. It was lovely that so many of our parents were present at Mass as well. This morning all students participated Fun Sport Rotations. These fun physical activities were organised by the teachers who were ably assisted by our senior students. Mass was followed a BBQ lunch which was organised by Mrs Raccosta. As well as a sausage sandwich students were also treated to a drink and a surprise. This afternoon our students demonstrated their extensive talent to perform by dancing, singing, acting and lip-syncing in our Annual Talent Quest. Thank you to Mrs de Jongh for her organisation of the afternoon’s entertainment. Thank you also to our fabulous parents who baked cupcakes for every student. Music Assembly Yesterday’s Music Assembly was a delight to watch. Well done to our students for sharing their musical talents with us. Kindergarten were fantastic with a wonderful rendition of ‘The World is a Rainbow’, Stage 2 beautifully performed ‘If I only had a Brain’ and the very talented Stage 3 sang ‘Brave’. 3/4Y and 5/6W demonstrated their skill with the ukulele performing ‘Tennessee Wig Walk’ and ‘Counting Stars.’ Our choir was also very impressive as they sang ‘Shelter’ and ‘Shake the Papaya Down’. Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Hackwill for the wonderful work she does each week to bring the joy of music to each student in our school. Thank you, too to Mrs Collis for generously sharing her skills as an accompanist. ICT update As you know the roll-out of our new iPads is almost complete. This week Mr Jenkins has finalised the complex process of ensuring that all leased iPads were returned to the leasing company in good order. Cost of iPad replacement/repairs As part of this change-over process we have done a calculation of the costs of replacing broken, incomplete, irreparable and lost iPads, cords and chargers. Over the period of the two-year lease, the school has outlaid in excess of $8,000 for repairing and replacing iPads and accessories. It is important to note that this cost has been paid for from school funds, that is parents’ school fees. This is money which could otherwise have been spent on resources for classrooms, excursions, sports equipment, library books etc etc. I understand that some parents were of the understanding that the school had arranged for insurance from Apple to mitigate against such costs. This option was thoroughly investigated when the school entered into the leasing contract with Apple. However, the quoted cost of insurance from Apple was $15,000 and deemed far too expensive. Kids’ Kitchen Well done to Greta B and Theresa M who baked Apple Tarts in the Kids’ Kitchen recently. The girls had also written their recipes as procedures which they read to me before I enjoyed their cooking. Carline I would like to again say thank you to the many families who have made arrangements to ensure that their children are picked up during the supervision period after school (3.10pm – 3.30pm). On most afternoons we now have less than ten students in late-line. Please be mindful of the fact that children remaining at school after 3.30pm are not supervised. The OSH short-term option is one which many parents have found helpful. See www.osh.org.au for more information or you can pick up a form from the Front Office. Car Park Safety To ensure that we maximize the safety of every person and to model responsible road safety to the children, please follow these simple steps: 1. Use the pedestrian crossing at all times 2. If you park adjacent to the Church, please leave your car and use the Pedestrian Crossing to collect your child from carlines 3. If you park your car in the car park, please leave your car to collect your child from carlines I wish you and your family an enjoyable break from the routine of school for the next two weeks. May God bless you and your family, Margaret Pollard DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Thursday 30 June – Awards Assembly, 2.15pm in the Hall Friday 1 July – Last day of Term 2 Monday 18 July – Term 3 begins RE NEWS CARE FOR SELF “You are holy, for you are God’s temple and God dwells in you.” 1 Corinthians 3:16 SUNDAY GOSPEL This Sunday’s gospel passage Luke 10:1-12,17-20 immediately follows the passage used last week that spelt out the difficulties of discipleship. Having explained how hard it is to be a disciple, Jesus sends his followers out to ‘have a go’ at being a disciple. When they come back successful he tells them not to be boastful or proud at their achievements but rather to be happy that their ‘names are written in heaven’. In other words, anything they accomplished was because they were ‘known’ by God and that God was working through them. Disciples make themselves ‘known’ to God and God works through them to accomplish great things! The theme of this Sunday and last Sundays Gospels is discipleship—its challenges, its difficulties, and its rewards. Sharing in the mission of Jesus is difficult, but everyone is called to do it, not just some professionals trained for ministry. Even for us today, the reward is plentiful. What is it that you are being ‘sent’ to do? SAINTS PETER AND PAUL FEAST DAY We have had a great day today celebrating the Feast of Saint Peter and Paul. Thank you to Mrs R and her helpers for providing our sepcial lunch and to all of the parents who made delicious cupcakes. We saw an amazing array of talent in our Talent Show.
