Class Descriptions FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2013 12:00 – 1:30 pm Fashion Flair! w/the Door County Contemporary Ladies Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Community Room Instructor: Oscar Hansen, Door County Rubber Stamps Join the relaxation class of combining the art of Zentangling and our Door County Contemporary Lady Stamps: Result = High Fashion. (Zen = Relax; Tangle = Doodle) The openness of our stamp designs offers the perfect format to doodle your favorite zigs & zags, dots and spots ~ resulting in spectacular fashion design at its best. We will create 3 beautifully finished cards in this class. Each student’s work will be exclusively one of a kind! A Micron Pen (Retail Value: $4.95) will be supplied and will become yours to take home for your future zentangling! Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Multipurpose Room INSTRUCTOR: Sandi Obertin/Creative Arts by Obertin During this creative and imaginative class you will have the opportunity to design your very own collage rubber stamps! Create something special for a friend or an occasion… or maybe you would like to create a dramatic background or border stamp… the choices are yours! As much fun as it is creating stamps that reflect your personality, it’s even more fun seeing your designs stamped out on paper! Once we’ve created our cling cushion backed stamps we won’t waste any time, we’ll stamp them out (admire them) and create some very unique cards! All art supplies will be provided including cardstock, embellishments, glitter and rubber. Your kit will include supplies for 2-4 collage rubber stamps. The number of stamps you create will depend on your size choices. Please see Sandi’s representative samples. Samples don't do embellishments justice. Friday, 1:45 – 3:15 pm Calendar Clock Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Community Room INSTRUCTOR: Oscar Hansen, Door County Rubber Stamps Celebrate this year with a uniquely hand stamped, hand colored, design of the month art collection that fits into a 3 ¼” x 6” Sheffield Home Mantel Clock ($22.95 Retail value). The 12 designs will be stamped out onto a 3” x 3” format and backed for framing into the clock itself. We will stamp out our wonderful and pleasing Door County Kids Designs to fill in the months of January thru December. In this class we will concentrate on blending and shading our colors, to coordinate with the months of the year. This clock is of the highest quality and is the perfect functional home décor piece that will be admired by family and friends for years to come. Watch time go by as you enjoy creating and admiring the changing of art throughout the year. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING: Adhesive, color pencils. Pearl Ex and chalks will be provided. If you want to bring your favorite coloring pens to work with, please do so. Gather around the table to create an oversized Accordion Birthday Book filled with the Newest Door County Animal designed stamps. These original designs are the work of Appleton Artist, Helene Spears. You will fall in love with the collection of animals as they come alive on paper. We will work with our Encore Metallic Inks to pronounce the exquisite artwork in this wild animal collection. The alphabet letters cut from our Ellison Die Maker will wish our recipient the Happiest of Birthdays! We go on to creating a custom gift bag to coordinate with our keepsake accordian card. Together, they are wild and wonderful! Take an animal of your choice home with you (one of Door County’s Animal Rubber Stamp Designs, that is!) Friday, 3:30 – 5:30 PM Creative Arts Paper Castings Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Multipurpose Room INSTRUCTOR: Sandi Obertin/Creative Arts by Obertin During this class you will have the opportunity to work with stoneware clay molds designed by Sandi Obertin. You will be amazed at how quick and easy it is to create some great three -dimensional accents for your paper arts projects! During this class you will also learn how to enhance your designs with color and fun embellishments. Please see Sandi’s representative samples *Your class fee includes two (2) clay molds that are yours to use in class and to take home after class! Bonus Note: Sandi’s stoneware clay molds have been fired in the kiln and they work great with all types of clay bodies including polymer clay. Friday, 6:00 - 10:00 pm Round Robin Community Room, Shepherd of the Lakes Church INSTRUCTORS: Busy Bee, Stamp This Scrap That, The Mark-it Place x 2, The Stamp Shoppe, Touche Rubber Stamps Six stations, 6 different instructors and 6 mini classes over a 4 hour period. Each mini class will be 30 minutes long. At the end of 30 minutes, students will rotate to the next instructor table to complete that project in 30 minutes and so on until students have completed all six projects. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING: Enthusiasm and energy....all other materials and supplies will be provided, including snacks, soft drinks and door prizes--what a great way to begin your creative adventure at the Stampede! Demonstrator Students will learn the folds and construction of tea light cards to add a bright dimension to their greeting. The second card will bring back childhood memories of dressing cut out dolls while making a special greeting for a special daughter, sister, or mother. We’re offering 10 of our very favorite card creations using our fabulous Clear Views transparent images, including some new ideas! We’ll show you how to create stunning cards with the Cuttlebug, pretty background papers, dies, embellishments and, of course, stamping. These card designs are classic and breathtakingly beautiful, sure to leave a lasting impression with everyone who receives them. SUNDAY, MAY 5, 2013 Sunday, 8:00 – 10:00 am Metalsmithing & Embellishing Techniques Community Building INSTRUCTORS: Lynn Obertin “Mr. O” & Sandi Obertin Creative Arts by Obertin During this unique two-part class “Mr. O” will cover a variety of basic metalsmithing techniques including surface texturing, inclusion of wire, creation of bales, metal cutting with a jeweler’s saw, filing, and surface finishing. Students will work hands-on using various techniques to create their choice of jewelry pieces such as a pendants, brooches, earrings and charms. Once the pieces have been fabricated, Sandi will teach students how to assemble and further embellish their works. Sandi will also show students how to add color to the metal surfaces. All metal and wire supplies and an assortment of beads* will be provided but students may wish bring their own color selection of beads that will slide onto 24 gauge and 18 gauge wire. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING: wire cutter pliers, round nose pliers & flat nose pliers and scissors. Please bring if possible: chasing hammer and metal block. *It is recommended that students bring protective eye gear & ear plugs. Sunday, 10 - 12 pm Zoo Animals Punch Art Cards Community Building INSTRUCTOR: Sue Younker, Stampin’ Up Demonstrator Lions and tigers and bears…….oh, my! By combining various punched shapes, participants will make six animal greeting cards suitable for a variety of occasions. See what those unused hand punches you purchased can create! Sunday, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Metal Assemblage Jewelry Community Building INSTRUCTORS: Lynn Obertin “Mr. O” & Sandi Obertin by Obertin Creative Arts During this hands-on technique driven class Mr. O will teach students how to create components that they will be able to use to create an imaginative piece of jewelry. Mr. O will demonstrate techniques for cutting and texturing metal surfaces. He will show students how to use a variety of cold connection techniques including riveting, wire manipulation and the fashioning of creative bales and findings for their works. Once the “body” of your piece has been created, Sandi will show you some great techniques for embellishing your work with charms and beads. Sandi will also show you how you can add unique colorful designs to your works. Your creative and intricate piece of jewelry is sure to garner loads of compliments each time you wear it. Time permitting you may make additional pieces and/or components. All metal and wire supplies and an assortment of embellishments will be provided. *Optional: Students may wish bring a few of their own beads and small charms/embellishments. THIS YEAR WE ARE REALLY CHANGING IT UP! We are going 98% brushless! During this fun class you will have the opportunity to work with watercolor paints and Sandi’s Rubber Nature ArtStamps! Mr. O and Sandi will share some of their innovative watercolor techniques. This is definitely not a “watercolor 101 class”. The techniques are unusual, fun and easy so all skill levels are welcome. You will love this special class and enjoy the fact that the beautiful painterly watercolor effects you create are amazingly achieved with rubber stamps! All art materials including watercolor paper, cardstock & paints will be provided.
