MISSOURI-ROLLA 10 7 14 0 Rolla, Mo. – A final defensive stand by the Bulldogs resulted in a 3831 season opening win over the University of Missouri-Rolla. Tyler Fenton caught his first Bulldog pass, a 36-yard on fourth down early in the fourth quarter, to cap off a 73-yard drive for the winning score. With the Bulldogs up seven, Truman’s drive stalled with 1:39 to play and gave the Miners’ potent offense a chance. UMR drove the ball down to the Bulldog 25-yard line but with 0.7 Ashton Gronewold’s hook and ladder attempt ended a few yards short of the endzone. Phil Kenney got the season started with a bang by taking the opening kickoff down to the Miners’ 26-yard line. On 3rd and 12, Matt Ticich found Ryan King over the middle for an 18-yard strike for an early 7-0 lead. The track meet continued after Tim Valencia hit a 23-yard field goal to close the gap to 7-3. Ticich scampered for a 12-yard TD score to put the Bulldogs back up 14-3. After UMR found the endzone for the first time to cut the lead to 1410, Kenney had a 49-yard run that led to a touchdown run by Jake Cunningham and a 21-10 lead. Mickey Massuci drilled a 25-yard field goal for a 24-10 advantage, then newcomer Garret Feig picked off a Brad Guidry pass at the goal line and gave the Bulldogs excellent field position again at their own 47. Later in the drive, Kenney scored from two yards out and Truman had a 31-10 lead just before half. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the 17.6 seconds left on the clock was enough time for the Miners to march down the field and get a momentum shifting score. A 45-yard pass from Guidry to Gronewold put the ball at the 4-yard line and Nathan Binder caught a touchdown pass as the clock expired with the Bulldogs leading 31-17. UMR got the ball to start the second half and the Bulldog defense held to a three-and-out but Albert Coker fumbled the punt return to give the ball right back. Feig stepped in front of another Guidry pass on the next play but Cunningham turned the ball right back with a fumble. Jerome Miller had a four-yard touchdown run but the extra point failed to put the Miners down eight. Truman failed to convert on a fourth down at the Miners 19-yard line, David Shields caught a 14-yard pass on the ensuing drive. The twopoint conversion was good and the game was tied at 31-31 with 2:15 to play in the third quarter. After Fenton’s 36-yard TD reception, Truman started their next drive at their own 2-yard line and was able to get the ball out to the UMR 41yard line, aided in part by two key offside penalties committed by the Miners. One of the penalties occurred on third down after the snap had sailed over Ticich’s head and the other came on a fourth and short play. The two highly powered offensive teams combined for over 900 yards of total offense. UMR had 510 yards with 345 coming from the air attack, while the Bulldogs had 306 rushing yards in their 457 yard total. The junior quarterback set a new conference and school passing record with 493 yards as the Bulldogs defeated Upper Iowa 55-31 on Saturday night. Ticich was 29-of-43 with four touchdown passes and added 23 yards rushing for 516 total offensive yards, also a school record. The previous school record for both total yards and passing yards was set by Jake Czeschin in 2004 against Northwest Missouri (456 Total; 479 passing). The Bulldogs built up a 14-0 lead with first quarter running touchdowns by Jake Cunningham, a 4-yard run, and a 2-yard scamper by Phil Kenney. The Peacocks got on the scoreboard early in the second on a 31-yard field goal by Mike Sharp, but then Ticich took control. Truman’s next drive started after Derek Rodriguez had a 42-yard kick return with an additional 15-yards added for a face mask penalty. Ticich found Vanness Emokpae for a 28-yard strike on the next play. Albert Coker caught a 31-yard pass for the next score and a 28-3 lead. Upper Iowa needed just two plays, both rushes by TC Hicks to go 63 yards in 0:25 seconds and cut the lead to 18. However, Kendrick Blue caught his first TD pass, a 37-yard bomb with 1:58 to go in the half for a 35-10 lead. Mickey Masucci added a 40-yard field goal as time expired in the half and the Bulldogs took a 38-10 lead into the locker room. The third quarter saw the Peacocks score consecutive touchdowns to close to within 14 points. Tyler Fenton, last game’s hero, caught a 24yard pass with six seconds left in the quarter to give the Bulldogs some cushion at 45-24. Kyle Hosch responded for the Peacocks early in the fourth with a 19yard pass reception to bring Upper Iowa back to within 14 at 45-31. Masucci connected on a 27-yard field goal in the next Bulldog possession and Marvin Bembry put things to bed with a 25-yard TD run with 2:55 to play. The two teams combined for 1,093 total offensive yards with Truman racking up 653 of those yards. The Bulldogs threw for 536 yards, while Upper Iowa rushed for 215 and threw for 225. Ticich’s top target was Emokpae, who caught seven balls for 170 yards, including a 50-yard reception. Coker and Phillip Henry each had four catches, while eight other Bulldogs made receptions. Cunningham had just 15 carries for 60 yards. Upper Iowa’s Hicks had 140 yards on the ground and Kevin Linnell threw for 211. 2 4 F 0 10 14 7 14 24 7 10 1st 08:06 03:46 2nd 14:12 13:58 05:07 04:34 01:58 00:00 3rd 09:10 05:26 00:06 4th 13:08 09:38 02:55 TSU TSU UIU TSU TSU UIU TSU TSU UIU UIU TSU UIU TSU TSU 31 55 SCORING SUMMARY Cunningham,Jake 4 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 10-43 3:07, UIU 0 - TSU 7 Kenney,Phil 2 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 8-85 2:06, UIU 0 - TSU 14 Mike Sharp 31 yd field goal, 11-56 4:28, UIU 3 - TSU 14 Emokpae,Vanness 28 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 1-28 0:05, UIU 3 - TSU 21 Coker,Albert 31 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 5-70 1:46, UIU 3 - TSU 28 Hicks,TC 38 yd run (Mike Sharp kick), 2-63 0:25, UIU 10 - TSU 28 Blue,Kendrick 37 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 5-52 2:32, UIU 10 - TSU 35 Masucci,Mickey 40 yd field goal, 6-66 0:43, UIU 10 - TSU 38 Conrad,Allen 44 yd pass from Linnell,Kevin (Mike Sharp kick), 2-50 0:46, UIU 17 - TSU 38 Linnell,Kevin 12 yd run (Mike Sharp kick), 7-78 2:14, UIU 24 - TSU 38 Fenton,Tyler 24 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 2-48 0:26, UIU 24 - TSU 45 Hosch,Kyle 19 yd pass from Linnell,Kevin (Mike Sharp kick), 6-48 1:53, UIU 31 - TSU 45 Masucci,Mickey 27 yd field goal, 10-70 3:22, UIU 31 - TSU 48 Bembry,Marvin 25 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 7-66 2:24, UIU 31 - TSU 55 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Upper Iowa-Hicks,TC 18-140; Linnell,Kevin 16-54; Croker,Dwayne 3-14; Stene,Steven 2-5; Burns,Craig 2-2. TRUMAN CENTRAL MO. Warrensburg, Mo. – The Central Missouri Mules scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Truman Football team 27-7 in the MIAA opener in Warrensburg. The Bulldog offense was kept in-check by the Mule defense, gaining only 160 yards of total offense and averaging only 2.2 yards per play, while Central gained 345 yards of total offense, most in the fourth quarter. Truman started the game on a 13 play, 48-yard drive that moved the ball to the Central 27-yard line. During the drive, the Bulldogs successfully executed a fake punt attempt to keep the drive going, but Mickey Masucci’s 44-yard field goal attempt later in the series missed short. The Bulldog defense stopped Central for a three-and-out on the ensuing possession but Truman was also stymied and had to punt. Garret Feig appeared to have picked off Eric Czerniewski’s pass but a roughing the passer foul gave the ball back to Central at Truman’s 27yard line. Four plays later, Glenn Milner ran 13-yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Truman put together a 16 play drive in the second quarter but failed to convert on third and fourth down from the Central 29-yard line for the turnover. Later in the half, Dallas Bryant recovered a Matt Ticich fumble at the Bulldog 9-yard line to set up excellent field position. However, the Truman defense held the Mules and Marcelo Velazquez missed a 22-yard field goal and the teams went to the locker room with Central up just a score. In the second half, the Bulldogs got a big defensive play when Kyle Supianoski forced a fumble that was recovered by Richard Schroeder at Central’s 17-yard line. Ticich found Ryan King three plays later on a 12-yard reception for the tie. On the ensuing drive, the Mules took the ball 55-yards in 14 plays but Velazquez missed a 42-yard field goal. Ticich found Phillip Henry on 3rd and 6 for a 17-yard reception that brought the ball to the UCM 30-yard line but a holding penalty on another third down play forced the Bulldogs to go for it on fourth and fail to convert. With the score still tied early in the fourth quarter, Anthony Parks had a 20-yard return on a punt that was aided by another 15-yard personal foul penalty that set the ball at Truman’s 29-yard line. Four plays later, Milner took it in from seven yards out for the lead. Central would add two more scores in the quarter, a two-yard rush by Jeremy Braden and a seven-yard run by Milner to wrap things up. The Bulldogs gained just 89 yards on the ground with Jake Cunningham accounting for 34 on 14 carries. Ticich was just 16-of-41 for 110 yards and was sacked four times. Henry caught five passes for 42 yards to lead the receivers. Milner gained 109 yards on 21 carries, while Division I transfer, Stinson Dean completed 5-of-6 in the fourth quarter for 62 yards. 1 2 3 4 0 7 0 0 7 0 0 20 F 7 27 SCORING SUMMARY 1st 03:37 UCM Milner,Glenn 13 yd run (Velazquez,Marce kick), 6-46 2:50, TSU 0 - UCM 7 3rd 13:11 TSU King,Ryan 12 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 3-17 0:55, TSU 7 - UCM 7 4th 11:36 UCM Milner,Glenn 7 yd run (Velazquez,Marce kick), 4-29 2:09, TSU 7 - UCM 14 07:19 UCM Braden,Jeremy 2 yd run (Dean,Stinson pass failed), 7-60 3:12, TSU 7 - UCM 20 01:00 UCM Milner,Glenn 7 yd run (Velazquez,Marce kick), 5-29 2:08, TSU 7 - UCM 27 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Truman-Cunningham,Jake 14-34; Eta,Luther 1-14; Bernard,Anton 2-6; Davis,Phillip 1-4; Bembry,Marvin 3-minus 1; Ticich,Matt 11-minus 7. The ball game could not have started any worse for the Bulldogs. After a three and out on the opening possession, the Bearcats’ Kendall Wright took the punt 47-yards to the Truman endzone and the quick lead at the 13:06 mark. The Bulldogs then did not get the spot they wanted on a fourth down and Northwest used the short field to set up Xavier Omon’s first of five touchdowns on the day. Truman sustained a 14-play drive in their next possession and on third and goal, Matt Ticich crossed the goal line for the first time for the Bulldogs. The extra point was blocked but Truman still cut the lead to 14-6 at the 2:35 mark of the quarter. Omon scored again, this time from five yards out just before the end of the quarter to put Northwest back up 21-6. Then things went from bad to worse for the Bulldogs. On the next Truman possession, in which they were held to a three-and-out, the snap on the punt went through Mickey Massuci’s hands and out of the endzone for a safety. Omon scored again at the 11:11 mark after another short field set up by the safety punt and finally poor field position after the ensuing kick led to a second safety with 10:54 showing. Omon’s fourth touchdown of the day, at the 4:01 mark of the second made the score 39-6 and his final one came on the first drive of the second half. Omon passed former Bulldog Dale “Paley” Mills for fifth alltime in conference scoring. The Bulldogs gained just 176 yards of total offense, while Northwest accumulated 526 yards. Truman’s ground game was missing for the second consecutive week as the Bulldogs managed just 27 yards in 27 carries. Ticich was 25-40 for 149 yards in the passing department. Ticich kept alive his consecutive pass streak with out an interception dating back to last season. He had 175 pass attempts since the last pick. Kyle Supianoski led the Bulldogs with 13 total tackles. Truman crossed into Northwest territory just three times during the game and had only three drive last more than four plays. 2 3 F 6 0 0 0 21 18 14 0 1st 13:06 06:51 02:35 00:52 2nd 14:47 11:11 10:54 04:01 3rd 12:08 07:39 6 53 SCORING SUMMARY NWMSU Wright,Kendall 47 yd punt return (Frevert,Tommy kick), , TSU 0 - NWMSU 7 NWMSU Omon,Xavier 6 yd run (Frevert,Tommy kick), 5-39 1:10, TSU 0 - NWMSU 14 TSU Ticich,Matt 1 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick blockd), 14-78 4:11, TSU 6 - NWMSU 14 NWMSU Omon,Xavier 5 yd run (Frevert,Tommy kick), 5-70 1:37, TSU 6 - NWMSU 21 NWMSU TEAM safety, , TSU 6 - NWMSU 23 NWMSU Omon,Xavier 1 yd run (Frevert,Tommy kick), 8-52 3:30, TSU 6 - NWMSU 30 NWMSU TEAM safety, , TSU 6 - NWMSU 32 NWMSU Omon,Xavier 2 yd run (Frevert,Tommy kick), 6-49 2:07, TSU 6 - NWMSU 39 NWMSU Omon,Xavier 3 yd run (Frevert,Tommy kick), 8-58 2:43, TSU 6 - NWMSU 46 NWMSU Kreifels,Kyle 15 yd pass from Osborn,Joel (Frevert,Tommy kick), 6-43 2:43, TSU 6 - NWMSU 53 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Truman-Davis,Phillip 3-23; Ticich,Matt 11-9; Bembry,Marvin 5-7; Bernard,Anton 3-2; Cunningham,Jake 4-1; Masucci,Mickey 1-minus 15. FORT HAYS ST. TRUMAN Kirksville, Mo. – The Bulldog offense came alive in the third quarter and ran away with a 26-11 win over Fort Hays State at Stokes Stadium. Truman (3-2/1-2 MIAA) began scoring their points with 1:18 left in the third quarter to down the Tigers (3-2/1-2 MIAA) and pick up their sixth straight win at home. The game was scoreless at half with neither team getting into the others redzone. The Bulldogs were plagued by dropped passes by the receivers and the Tigers missed out on a 47-yard field goal attempt and turned the ball over on downs at Truman’s 34-yard line. The Tigers made a switch at quarterback beginning in the second series of the third quarter and the offense moved the ball. Ryan Salyer came in to replace Shane Jackson and moved the Fort Hays offense down the field. On second and 10 from the Bulldog 25, Richard Schroeder and Jesse Cooper stopped Tiger running back Jordan Hickel for a four-yard loss. Salyer completed his next pass but was short of first down yardage and the Tigers settled for a 35-yard field goal from Justin Barr. That drive spurred the Truman offense. Quarterback Matt Ticich strung six straight passes and moved the ball down to the Tigers 12-yardline. However, Fort Hays was able to stop the running game and force Mickey Massuci to connect on a 22-yard field goal attempt to tie the game. The Bulldog defense forced a three-and-out and on the ensuing punt attempt, Les Hammers and James Thabuteau were able to get to the Tiger punter and bring him down at the Fort Hays 26-yard line. Truman used a little trickery when Ticich tossed back to Phillip Davis who threw across the field to find Jake Cunningham for a touchdown on the first play after the punt sack and the 10-3 lead. The defense responded again with a quick three and out and Ticich continued his string of passes with an 18-yard strike to Ryan King, a 28yard connection to Cunningham and an 11-yard reception by Marvin Bembry to move the ball into Tiger territory. Ticich found Vanness Emokpae for a 20-yard pass to bring the ball down to the Fort Hays 3-yardline, then Ticich ran it in for the 17-3 advantage. The Bulldogs got a safety after a bad punt snap on the next possession to make the score 19-3. Later in the fourth quarter, Ticich found Tyler Fenton on a 50-yard touchdown reception to add to the lead. Fort Hays scored their only touchdown on a 27-yard pass from Salyer to Matt Brevi with 2:55 to play. The Bulldogs won their sixth straight home game behind Ticich’s 374 yards of passing. He was 33 of 55 but did throw his first two interceptions of the season. Fenton caught four passes for 109 yards, while Cunningham had seven receptions for 87. Fort Hays had 61 yards rushing from Hickel and had 150 yards of passing from Salyer on 12-of-28. The Bulldogs had 26 first downs compared to just 12 from the Tigers. Jesse Cooper, Kyle Supianoski and Andy Swedenhjelm each had eight tackles for the defense, with James Thabuteau adding seven. 3rd 04:57 01:18 00:04 4th 11:47 11:20 03:54 02:55 1 2 3 4 0 0 0 3 8 0 10 16 F 11 26 SCORING SUMMARY FHSUBarr,Justin 35 yd field goal, 8-44 3:04, FHSU 3 - TSU 0 TSU Masucci,Mickey 22 yd field goal, 11-74 3:33, FHSU 3 - TSU 3 TSU Cunningham,Jake 26 yd pass from Davis,Phillip (Masucci,Mickey kick), 1-26 0:07, FHSU 3 - TSU 10 TSU Ticich,Matt 3 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 6-75 2:09, FHSU 3 - TSU 17 TSU TEAM safety, , FHSU 3 - TSU 19 TSU Fenton,Tyler 50 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 3-67 1:34, FHSU 3 - TSU 26 FHSUBrevi,Matt 27 yd pass from Salyer,Ryne (Hickel,Jordan rush), 4-65 0:52, FHSU 11 - TSU 26 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Fort Hays State-Hickel,Jordan 16-61; Glenn,Justin 3-25; Salyer,Ryne 1-3; Elder,Tyler 1-minus 9; Jackson,Shane 6-minus 15; TEAM 2-minus 24 Truman-Bembry,Marvin 8-44; Ticich,Matt 14-25; Cunningham,Jake 9-23; Henry,Phillip 1-12; Bernard,Anton 2-1. The Bulldogs had three touchdown plays go for 40 yards or more including two defensive scores of 90+ yards. Truman struck first with quarterback Matt Ticich running 41-yards for a touchdown on the Bulldogs second drive of the day. Then Ticich put Truman up by 14 after a 12-yard rush late in the first quarter. Southwest Baptist, who came into the contest averaging just 61 yards on the ground, got a rushing score from Jeff Finnell following a 10-play 85-yard drive early in the second quarter. Following a three-and-out, SBU got the ball back and drove down to the Bulldogs 4-yardline and attempted a field goal. James Thabuteau broke through the line and blocked the attempt, then took the ball 91yards to the endzone for a defensive touchdown. Bearcat quarterback Steve Gachette scrambled on a pair of touchdown runs late in the half to pull SBU back to within two at 21-19. The point-after was missed on the first TD run, and the Bearcats failed on a two-point conversion on the second that would have tied the game. Wanting to close out the half with momentum, Ticich engineered a 13-play drive in 1:34 seconds and hit Ryan King for an 11-yard touchdown reception on fourth down. The Bulldogs had set up for a field goal try but after a Bearcat timeout, the offense came back out and was able to get the key score. The Bulldogs took the opening possession in the second half right down the field again and this time Ticich found Tyler Fenton for 14-yard score and a 35-19 lead. The big play of the drive was a 48-yard run from Jake Cunningham on the first play from scrimmage. Thabuteau intercepted Gachette at the Bulldog seven on the ensuing possession and then stopped SBU again in Truman territory on downs. On 3rd-and-3 from their own 32-yardline, Ticich found Steve D’Antonio for a 43-yard reception and two plays later Marvin Bembry ran it in from 11-yards out for a 41-19 lead. In the fourth quarter, Gachette ran in his third TD of the day but Phillip Henry caught a six-yard strike from Ticich to give the points right back to the Bulldogs. Finnell, who finished with 215 yards rushing for SBU, scored his second touchdown of the day from 14-yards out with 3:58 to play. Eric Sternberg picked off Gachette on the game’s final play and ran it back 98-yards for the second defensive touchdown of the day. It was the longest interception return in Truman football history and capped off the 55-31 win. The Bulldogs had 403 yards of total offense with Ticich throwing for 257 on 27 completions. Ticich was Truman’s leading rusher as well with 56 yards on nine carries. Phillip Henry caught seven passes for 63 yards. Southwest Baptist had 702 yards of total offense with 443 yards passing and another 259 on the ground. Gachette was 33-of-59 for 356 yards, with Nick Smart catching 17 passes for 158 yards. 42 2 3 4 F 14 14 14 13 0 19 0 12 1st 07:47 00:36 2nd 12:42 06:29 05:23 01:55 00:16 3rd 13:23 04:18 4th 13:43 08:50 03:58 00:00 TSU TSU SBU TSU SBU SBU TSU TSU TSU SBU TSU SBU TSU 55 31 SCORING SUMMARY Ticich,Matt 41 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 6-61 2:21, TSU 7 - SBU 0 Ticich,Matt 12 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 6-43 2:32, TSU 14 - SBU 0 Finnell,Jeff 1 yd run (Downey,Greg kick), 10-85 2:44, TSU 14 - SBU 7 Thabuteau,James 91 yd blocked FG return (Masucci,Mickey kick), , TSU 21 - SBU 7 Gachette,Steve 1 yd run (Downey,Greg kick failed), 5-42 1:06, TSU 21 - SBU 13 Gachette,Steve 7 yd run (Gachette,Steve pass failed), 7-41 1:23, TSU 21 - SBU 19 King,Ryan 11 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 13-76 1:34, TSU 28 - SBU 19 Fenton,Tyler 14 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 5-78 1:30, TSU 35 - SBU 19 Bembry,Marvin 11 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 5-75 0:54, TSU 42 - SBU 19 Gachette,Steve 4 yd run (Smart,Nick pass failed), 7-27 1:24, TSU 42 - SBU 25 Henry,Phillip 6 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 11-50 3:56, TSU 49 - SBU 25 Finnell,Jeff 14 yd run (Gachette,Steve pass failed), 8-80 1:38, TSU 49 - SBU 31 Sternberg,Eric 98 yd interception return, , TSU 55 - SBU 31 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Truman-Ticich,Matt 9-56; Cunningham,Jake 4-43; Bembry,Marvin 5-39; Kenney,Phil 6-9; Bernard,Anton 4-minus 1. TRUMAN Kirksville, Mo. – Pittsburg State took advantage of Truman’s mistakes and missed opportunities to defeat the Bulldogs 40-0 at Stokes Stadium. Truman started the game converting on a big 3rd and 19 with Matt Ticich finding Steve D’Antonio for a 26-yard pass that moved the ball into Pitt terriroty but the drive stalled out. Later in the first, Mark Smith found Caleb Farabi for a 28-yard pass down to the Bulldogs 1-yard line. Todd Hertzog took it in on the next play for the 7-0 lead. The Gorillas held the Bulldogs to a three-and-out and Truman appeared to do the same but Jared Witter found a wide-open lane on fourth down and the fake punt went for 25-yards and a first down at Truman’s 35-yard line. Three plays later Smith found Farabi for a 19-yard touchdown strike and a 14-0 lead. The Bulldogs got a great kick return from Phil Kenney that started Truman’s next possession at Pittsburg’s 43. Jake Cunningham had a pair of seven yard rushes but then was striped of the ball by Alex Kuhlman and recovered by Jeremy Jackson at the 21 for the Gorillas. Later in the second, Pittsburg pinned the Bulldogs back to their own nine after a punt and a bad snap that went into the endzone for a safety. Nathan Thomas returned the safety punt 55 yards down to the Bulldog 29-yard line and Farabi and Smith used the ground game to go up 23-0 with 2:28 to play in the half. Late in the half, Truman was at the Pittsburg 13-yardline but Ticich’s pass went off the hands of Charlie Brunette and into Kuhlman’s hands for the interception. Pittsburg marched down the field in the opening possession of the third quarter for a nine-play drive capped off by Farabi’s one-yard plunge and a 30-0 lead. The Bulldogs moved the ball in their next drive with Ticich finding Kendrick Blue on an 18-yard reception and Phillip Henry on a 24-yard pass play down to the Pittsburg 11-yardline. Truman went for it on fourth down but Ticich pass to Ryan King fell incomplete. Ticich had another pass picked of by Bryan McMurtrey at the Gorilla 2-yardline to end another drive. Smith found Harrison Kush for a 98yard touchdown reception on the next play to put PSU up 37-0. A late field goal would end the scoring. The Bulldogs were 3-of-14 on third down conversions and had just 239 yards of total offense. Ticich was just 13-of-32 for 156 yards with Phil Kenney catching four balls for 30 yards. Cunningham and Kenney each rushed for 26 yards. Smith threw for 203 yards and rushed for another 108 to lead the Pittsburg attack. The Gorillas racked up 306 yards on the ground and 528 yards of total offense. Pittsburg dominated the possession time with 11 more minutes than the Bulldogs. 2 3 4 F 14 9 14 3 0 0 0 0 1st 06:35 01:06 2nd 05:46 02:28 3rd 11:13 00:27 4th 04:02 PSU PSU PSU PSU PSU PSU PSU 40 0 SCORING SUMMARY Hertzog,Todd 1 yd run (Witter,Jared kick), 7-61 2:13, PSU 7 - TSU 0 Farabi,Caleb 19 yd pass from Smith,Mark (Witter,Jared kick), 8-68 3:46, PSU 14 - TSU 0 TEAM safety, , PSU 16 - TSU 0 Farabi,Caleb 5 yd run (Witter,Jared kick), 6-29 3:09, PSU 23 - TSU 0 Farabi,Caleb 1 yd run (Witter,Jared kick), 9-54 3:38, PSU 30 - TSU 0 Kush,Harrison 98 yd pass from Smith,Mark (Witter,Jared kick), 1-98 0:13, PSU 37 - TSU 0 Witter,Jared 20 yd field goal, 10-44 5:32, PSU 40 - TSU 0 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Pittsburg State-Smith,Mark 14-108; Farabi,Caleb 18-83; Clark,Brandon 8-43; Witter,Jared 1-25; Clemons,Cardell 8-21; Isaac,Terrance 3-11; Waters,Geno 2-6; Hertzog,Todd 2-5; Snyder,Chadd 2-4. The Ichabods rushed for a school-record 428 yards on 57 carriers and averaged 7.5 yards per rush. Three Washburn runners, Ra’Shawn Mosley, Brandon Walker and Terrence Lowe gained over 100 yards with Mosley going for 147. Walker had 133 yards with four touchdowns. Matt Ticich threw for five touchdowns and 280 yards for the Bulldog in the defeat. Vanness Emokpae had five catches for 49 yards, while Phil Kenney had four receptions and 99 yards. The Ichabods wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Cary Williams returned the opening kickoff to midfield and Mosley then ran the ball four times to set up the first score. Walker scored from 18-yards out to cap off the short field position and the early lead. Truman started their first drive at their own 42-yardline but after crossing midfield they were forced to punt. Mickey Massuci used the wind and put the ball inside the Ichabod 4-yardline, however Washburn would convert on four, third down situations and on 4th and four from the Truman 23, Jordan Brill connected with Masley for a touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead. The Bulldogs struck right back when Ticich found Kenney for a 52yard touchdown reception on the ensuing drive. The Ichabods ended the first quarter with a 21-yard run by Walker down to the Bulldog 27-yard line. Mosley gained another 15-yards and Eric Butler punched it in from the one to put Washburn back up by two touchdowns. Then things got out of hand for Truman. Washburn held Truman for a three-and-out and then on the first play on the Ichabods next drive, Brill found Lloyd Bias for a 28-yard reception down to the Bulldog 23-yardline. Walker would touch the ball five of the next six times and dove in from the one for a 28-7 lead. Ticich was intercepted in the next possession, setting up another short field for the Ichabods. Brad Cole gained 18 yards and Mosley took it another six for the score. Washburn held Truman to another three-and-out but after the punt, Truman’s Jason Their recovered a fumble to get the ball back. Ticich ran for 17 yards to the Ichabod 29 and Jake Cunningham brought it down to the two with a 27 yard gain. Ticich found Ryan King in the endzone to cut the deficit to 35-15. The Ichabods would score again after Williams intercepted a pass by Ticich and returned it 56 yards down to the Bulldog 11-yardline. Mosley would score on the next play. The Bulldogs put together a 11-play 80-yard drive late in the half that was capped off with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Ticich to Charlie Brunette. However, the Ichabods marched down the field with :30 seconds left in the half and scored on a 23-yard pass play from Brill to Drameago Powers. In the second half, Washburn would get three more scores, a 1-yard run from Butler and an 8-yard and 2-yard runs from Walker. Truman would get their points in the half on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ticich to Steve D’Antonio and a 15-yard TD reception by Kenney. 44 2 3 4 F 7 15 6 7 14 36 14 7 1st 12:33 02:37 02:03 2nd 14:45 11:06 09:21 07:22 03:32 00:34 00:03 3rd 09:09 05:28 04:17 4th 12:54 08:19 WU WU TSU WU WU WU TSU WU TSU WU WU TSU WU TSU WU 35 71 SCORING SUMMARY Walker,Brandon 18 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 5-50 2:27, TSU 0 - WU 7 Mosley,Ra'Shawn 23 yd pass from Brill,Jordan (Knight,Andrew kick), 14-96 7:48, TSU 0 - WU 14 Kenney,Phil 53 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 3-64 0:28, TSU 7 - WU 14 Butler,Eric 1 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 7-71 2:09, TSU 7 - WU 21 Walker,Brandon 1 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 7-51 1:56, TSU 7 - WU 28 Mosley,Ra'Shawn 6 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 2-31 0:12, TSU 7 - WU 35 King,Ryan 2 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Hammers,Les pass from Ticich,Matt), 4-46 0:45, TSU 15 - WU 35 Mosley,Ra'Shawn 11 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 1-11 0:05, TSU 15 - WU 42 Brunette,Charlie 7 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 11-80 2:58, TSU 22 - WU 42 Powers,Drameago 24 yd pass from Brill,(Lebahn,Jake pass from Brill,Jordan), 7-76 0:31, TSU 22 - WU 50 Butler,Eric 1 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 3-11 1:10, TSU 22 - WU 57 D'Antonio,Steve 28 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Ticich,Matt pass failed), 9-76 3:37, TSU 28 - WU 57 Walker,Brandon 8 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 5-63 1:11, TSU 28 - WU 64 Kenney,Phil 15 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 11-80 3:02, TSU 35 - WU 64 Walker,Brandon 2 yd run (Knight,Andrew kick), 5-85 2:40, TSU 35 - WU 71 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Truman-Cunningham,Jake 10-67; Ticich,Matt 15-62; Bembry,Marvin 12-30; Davis,Phillip 4-20. TRUMAN Kirksville, Mo. –– Tyler Fenton’s diving catch on a two-point conversion and Mickey Massuci’s 32-yard field goal in overtime, lifted the Truman Bulldogs to a 33-30 Homecoming victory at Stokes Stadium. The Bulldogs were able to erase a 92-yard interception return on the final play of the first half and come from behind for the win. Emporia’s Travis Lee picked off a Matt Ticich’s pass and rumbled the length of the field as time expired to put the Hornets up 21-7. Truman had to rely on Massuci’s foot to mount a comeback as the sophomore kicker connected on three field goal attempts in the third quarter to pull the Bulldogs to 21-16. Massuci had only attempted one field goal in the last five games. Emporia extended their lead to 11 points when Justin Wieser scored on a 15-yard run play late in the quarter. Facing a 3rd and 6 in the fourth, Ticich found Ryan King for a 26yard pass reception to bring the ball down to the Emporia 18. A penalty drove the ball back on the next play but Ticich found Fenton for 14 yards and then Steve D’Antonio for a 19-yard touchdown reception. It was D’Antonio’s second TD catch of the day and brought the Bulldogs to within five points. The two-point conversion fell short in the endzone. Emporia wasted little time in responding as Johnny Torres connected from 26 yards to make the score 30-22. Torres had previously missed from 38 and 32 yards and an extra point. The Bulldogs got the ball with 4:07 to play and Ticich found his stride as he connected on four straight plays before hooking up with Kendrick Blue over the middle for a 48-yard TD pass. On the conversion attempt, Ticich scrambled right and lofted the ball to Fenton, who was already on his knees when the pass was thrown. Fenton was able to reach out and secure the ball to tie the game at 30 apiece. Truman had a chance to win the game in regulation as they were given great field position following a punt by Torres. With 1:19 to play, Truman started at the Emporia 49 and Ticich drove the Bulldogs to the 15. On the next play, Ticich was called for intentional grounding putting the ball back to the ESU 28. Massucci attempted a 44-yard field goal, one yard short of his career long, but missed left to send the game into overtime. The Bulldog defense responded in the overtime by stopping the Hornets on three straight plays and forcing Torres to hit from 41 yards. Torres missed short and Truman took over for their OT possession. Truman was not able to get a first down but got to the ESU 16 where Masucci drilled the 32-yard field goal for the win. Ticich threw for 323 yards on 31 completions but was sacked five times by the Hornet defense. Jake Cunningham had nine catches for 67 yards, while Blue had three for 82 and a TD. D’Antonio had two touchdowns and 65 yards receiving for the Bulldogs. Wieser rushed 20 times for the Hornets and gained 127 yards, while teammate Ko had 19 carries for 106 yards. Emporia rushed the ball 63 times and had only 14 pass attempts. Eric Runge also had 20 carries for the Hornets and was 7-of-14 for 40 yards and two touchdowns. Paul Nichols and Jarad Biggs had the TD catches for Emporia in the second quarter. It was the Bulldog’s first overtime game since Homecoming 1999. Ironically, Emporia State was on the other side of the field as the Bulldogs won 31-24. The game was also the 900th game in Truman State University football history. 2 3 4 OT F 6 15 6 3 0 30 7 0 9 14 3 33 1st 13:17 01:28 2nd 00:48 00:00 3rd 12:19 07:50 02:16 00:15 4th 07:57 04:11 02:47 OT 15:00 TSU ESU ESU ESU TSU TSU TSU ESU TSU ESU TSU TSU SCORING SUMMARY D'Antonio,Steve 38 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 5-70 1:43, ESU 0 - TSU 7 Nichols,Paul 15 yd pass from Runge,Eric (Torres,Johnny kick failed), 5-40 1:50, ESU 6 - TSU 7 Biggs,Jarad 6 yd pass from Runge,Eric (Josh pass from Runge,Eric), 9-56 2:36, ESU 14 - TSU 7 Lee,Travis 92 yd interception return (Torres,Johnny kick), , ESU 21 - TSU 7 Masucci,Mickey 26 yd field goal, 4-5 1:25, ESU 21 - TSU 10 Masucci,Mickey 26 yd field goal, 8-48 3:02, ESU 21 - TSU 13 Masucci,Mickey 38 yd field goal, 6-59 1:56, ESU 21 - TSU 16 Wieser,Justin 15 yd run (Runge,Eric rush failed), 5-61 1:52, ESU 27 - TSU 16 D'Antonio,Steve 19 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Ticich,Matt pass failed), 5-48 2:14, ESU 27 - TSU 22 Torres,Johnny 26 yd field goal, 7-45 3:46, ESU 30 - TSU 22 Blue,Kendrick 48 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Fenton,Tyler pass Ticich,Matt), 5-66 1:20, ESU 30 - TSU 30 Masucci,Mickey 32 yd field goal, 4-9 0:00, ESU 30 - TSU 33 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Emporia State-Wieser,Justin 20-127; Ko,Seville 19-106; Runge,Eric 19-83; Maupin,Andre 3-4; Hornet 2-minus 15. Hughes Stadium Joplin, Mo. 1 TRUMAN MO. SOUTHERN Joplin, Mo... – The Missouri Southern Lions scored 21 first quarter points to down the Truman Bulldogs 55-24 in Joplin. The Bulldog offense struggled against one of the top defensive teams in the MIAA all day long. The Lions forced the Bulldogs to a quick three-and-out on the first possession, and then marched down the field for 64 yards on six rushing plays for a 7-0 lead. In Truman’s next possession, Matt Ticich’s pass was picked off by Elbert Johnson and 30-yards later, the Lions were up 14-0. The Bulldogs got some momentum back after Luther Eta blocked a Lion punt deep in Missouri Southern territory, but Truman could only get a 27-yard field goal from Mickey Masucci. Truman held the Lions in their next drive, but on fourth down, Colin Bado took the snap and scored from 67-yards on the fake punt. Later in the second quarter, Eta picked off an Adam Hinspeter pass and returned the ball 39 yards down to the Lion 16. Five plays later, Ticich found Vanness Emokpae in the endzone for an 11-yard strike to cut the lead down to 21-10. On the ensuing possession, Hinspeter found Bado for a 29-yard pass followed by a 28-yard touchdown pass to get the score right back. Albert Coker returned a punt 60 yards to bring the Bulldogs back 2817 with 1:56 to play in the half, but once again an opposing team was able to get points right before the break. The Lions were able to move down the field, with Hinspeter finding Isaac Norman for 36 yards and got into field goal range. Brian Malette hit from 33 just before half and gave Missouri Southern a 31-17 lead. Jesse Cooper picked off a Hinspeter pass to start the second half, but the Bulldogs gave it back on the next play. Using Coker on a reverse, Coker’s pass was picked off by Jordan Patton. The Lions would then march down the field with a 14-play drive that took 6:59 off the clock and was capped off by a Malette field goal from 33 yards. Alley Broussard put the game out of reach when he ran in a touchdown from 42-yards out to put the Lions up 41-17 after the Bulldogs were stopped again offensively. The Lions would tack on two more touchdowns, while the Bulldogs scored just once in the fourth quarter. Michael Long scrambled in from three yards out. Missouri Southern ran for 355 yards on 57 carries, while the Bulldogs could manage just 55 yards on the ground. Broussard had 125 of those yards on 22 attempts, while Renard Johnson added 86. Bado had 67 on the ground, the fake punt touchdown, along with six catches for 112 yards. The Bulldogs had just 206 yards of total offense, while going 2-of-13 on third down attempts. Ticich was 16-of-34 for just 89 yards and three interceptions. 46 1st 11:06 09:55 05:49 04:00 2nd 05:35 04:31 01:56 00:41 3rd 06:14 01:25 4th 13:59 11:02 08:35 2 3 4 F 3 14 0 7 21 10 10 14 MSSU MSSU TSU MSSU TSU MSSU TSU MSSU MSSU MSSU MSSU MSSU TSU 24 55 SCORING SUMMARY Broussard,Alley 2 yd run (Malette,Brian kick), 6-64 2:45, TSU 0 - MSSU 7 Johnson,Elbert 30 yd interception return (Malette,Brian kick), , TSU 0 - MSSU 14 Masucci,Mickey 27 yd field goal, 4-6 0:59, TSU 3 - MSSU 14 Bado,Colin 67 yd run (Malette,Brian kick), 4-74 1:43, TSU 3 - MSSU 21 Emokpae,V. 11 yd pass from Ticich,Matt (Masucci,Mickey kick), 3-16 1:03, TSU 10 - MSSU 21 Bado,Colin 28 yd pass from Hinspeter,Adam (Malette,Brian kick), 4-62 0:59, TSU 10 - MSSU 28 Coker,Albert 60 yd punt return (Masucci,Mickey kick), , TSU 17 - MSSU 28 Malette,Brian 33 yd field goal, 10-54 1:10, TSU 17 - MSSU 31 Malette,Brian 33 yd field goal, 14-35 6:59, TSU 17 - MSSU 34 Broussard,Alley 42 yd run (Malette,Brian kick), 5-53 2:49, TSU 17 - MSSU 41 Johnson,Renard 2 yd run (Malette,Brian kick), 3-55 0:46, TSU 17 - MSSU 48 Aiono,Anthon 13 yd run (Malette,Brian kick), 5-39 1:53, TSU 17 - MSSU 55 Long,Michael 3 yd run (Masucci,Mickey kick), 6-67 2:20, TSU 24 - MSSU 55 INDIVIDUAL STATS RUSHING: Truman-Ticich,Matt 9-32; Kenney,Phil 1-20; Davis,Phillip 1-5; Long,Michael 1-3; Bembry,Marvin 2-0; Cunningham,Jake 3-minus 5. WESTERN TRUMAN Kirksville, Mo. – The Truman Football team was able to erase a 14point deficit and defeat Missouri Western 37-28 at Stokes Stadium. The win gave the Bulldogs their 70th winning year in the final game of the 100th season of Bulldog Football. Truman allowed Missouri Western to score touchdowns the first four times they touched the ball, but then shut down the Griffons on their final 11 possessions. After the first two plays of the second half, Truman allowed just two total yards of offense until the Griffons final drive of the game. Truman was down 14 points until Matt Ticich connected with Charlie Brunette for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 3:22 in the first quarter. Ticich then found Vanness Emokpae for a 31-yard touchdown pass with 12:58 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored twice in the final minute of the half. Emokpae caught a 9-yard pass from Ticich with :39 seconds left. Then Thomas Hodges fumbled on the first play after the ensuing kickoff and Mickey Masucci turned it into three points after hitting from 40-yards out to close the Missouri Western lead to 28-23. Missouri Western had two rushes for 60 yards to start the second but the Bulldog defense regrouped and forced a field goal try. The Griffons faked the attempt but after the pass was complete, Jason Their forced a fumble that was recovered by Kyle Glenn. Their recovered a fumble in the next Griffon possession and two plays later Ticich found Tyler Fenton for the go-ahead score with 9:24 to play in the third quarter. The two connected again on the two-point conversion to put Truman up 31-28. Early in the fourth quarter, Missouri Western was called for a personal foul on an incomplete third down pass that gave Truman a new set of downs and the ball at the Missouri Western 13-yard line. On fourth and goal from the one, Ticich popped a pass over the middle to Steve D’Antonio and Truman led 37-28 with 10:46 to play. In their final drive, the Griffons moved down the field quickly with Drew Newhart completing passes of 20,15, 17 and 26 yards down to the Bulldog 3-yardline.
