Palingenesi is a 7.5-litre tank that can be used as a container for liquids, oils and viscous substances. It is produced through the use of advanced technologies, which allow for the creation of a single-component and a single material container in a single production process: an experimental design in the field of biomimetics which aims to integrate the latest technology into the injection moulding process. The project takes advantage of the use of nano-structured surfaces to recreate structural colours and hydrophobic surfaces: these technologies make it possible to speed up the production process and facilitate recycling. 4 SECOND PRIZE ASAP AS SUSTAINABLE AS POSSIBLE sezione da un punto di vista mancino sezione da un punto di vista destrimano Paolo Metaldi Motivation of the jury: elegant technological solutions that enhance formally innovative and semantically consistent ideas. ASAP is a coffee cup in biopolymers: evocative, biodegradable and compostable. The ASAP cup enhances the ethical and sustainable components of biopolymer materials: simulating the process of biodegradation, it seems to sink and La tazzina ASAP può melt on the contenere contact surface. abbondantemente la quantità The object is media di una tazza di caffè intriguing: espresso its deliberately incomplete enhances (25 - 35 ml) original senza form problemi di and makes the compostable fuoriuscita. biopolymer feature immediately comprehensible. Questa capienza e il manico perpendicolare al bordo rendono la tazzina ergonomica e di facile utilizzo sia per persone destrimane che mancine. The project aims to combine two particularly happy aspects of life: games and food. Eat&play is a container for ice cream which, after use, becomes a game, thus avoiding the rapid obsolescence of this type of consumer product: in place of “eat and throw-away” the designers propose “eat and play”. After enjoying the ice cream, in fact, the container can be filled with sand and used again for playing a game of “bocce”. Eat&play uses two icons that have indelibly marked the collective Italian memory: the game of bocce and ice cream. The project is however declinable in many other games that involve the use of a sphere. 6 SPECIAL PRIZE MANUFACTURING AWARDS PLASTIC TECHNOLOGIES AWARD 2015 INJECTION MOULDING AWARD YIN&GNAM Lorenzo Limatola Motivation of the jury: a technically consistent and fully usable new contribution to a much-explored theme of contemporary design. Yin&gnam is an ecological and disposable cutlery set, whose components are moulded into one reduced size piece. The function of the spoon is combined with that of the knife: in this manner, what is usually found in three components is reduced to two, while maintaining all of the functionality and, at the same time, ensuring an appearance that intrigues and stimulates the use of the product. The design enables a substantial decrease in the amount of material used for the production of each cutlery set, leading to a considerable economic and environmental saving; also, the compactness of the elements is the basis for a further reduction in use of material for the packaging. Yin&gnam is produced by injection moulding: the chosen material is PLA, or polylactide, which allows the product to be composted together with the food remnants after use. 8 THERMOFORMING AWARD BIONE PACK Dario Martone Francesco Lillo Motivation of the jury: unifying two mutually consistent appearances in a single object through a technological solution of good feasibility. The project bione pack analyses the problems associated with the use of disposable products for the consumption of beverages in public places: the use of spoons, cups and bags increases the risk of producing mixed waste, which is no longer recoverable and recyclable. Bione pack presents integrated packaging, able to be used both as a sugar container and a teaspoon, thanks to the use of thermoformed and laminated plastic sheets. Another film protects the spoon, to ensure hygiene. 9 PLASTIC TECHNOLOGIES AWARD 2015 Competition sponsored by PROMAPLAST, organizer of PLAST 2015, with POLI.design, Consorzio del Politecnico di Milano, aimed at the selection of innovative rapid consumption/temporary/ single-use products, exploiting the potential of specific technologies used in the manufacture and processing of plastics. Sponsors of the initiative are the companies Amut, manufacturer of extrusion lines, thermoforming and recycling plants, and Negri Bossi, injection molding machines for thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers, both present at PLAST 2015, and trade associations PlasticsEurope Italia, Italian Association Producers of Plastics, and Assocomaplast, Italian Plastics and Rubber Processing Machinery and Moulds Manufacturers’ Association.
