Cruise highlights
Waterfalls, Fjords & Glaciers
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines bringing the world closer to you
Flam, Sogne fjord
Olden, Nordfjord
Flam is a tiny village on the
banks of the Aurlandsford.
The setting is utterly
spectacular. A stroll along
the waterside, past
orchards and hamlets,
cottages and farmland
explains why this area is so
popular. In recent years the Flam Railway has become
the major shore tour attraction. Finished in 1944, it
climbs up over 20km and almost a thousand metres
through magnificent scenery, in and out of
mountains, past waterfalls and ravines, pausing at
the beautiful Kjosfossen Waterfall for a perfect photo
opportunity. Full day in port 7am - 5pm
Travel past the Melkevoll
Glacier and you will have
the opportunity to climb
up for a breathtaking view
of the Briksdal Glacier.
Olden itself is delightful, a
charming village set in
green meadows which are
ablaze with colourful flowers through which
babbling brooks meander between pretty houses.
Stretching back from the village is the Oldedalen
Valley, flanked by near vertical 1700m high cliffs and
sparkling glaciers; 1500m up the valley is the
spectacular Lokenfossen Waterfall. Near the old
church, built in 1759 is the Singerheimen, the former
home of the millionaire founder of the sewingmachine company. Full day in port 8.30am - 4pm.
Bergen
Stavanger
The carefully restored 18th
century Bryggen Wharf is a
delight; its narrow streets
climb away from the
waterfront, lined by
interesting shops, colourful
half timbered houses and
cobbled streets with alleyways and tiny open spaces
that beg to be explored. Bergen is framed by seven
fjords and seven magnificent hills, the highest of
which can be reached by the funicular railway. From
the top there are spectacular views down to the
harbour side, where cafes, bars and restaurants and
numerous museums welcome visitors from around
the world. Full day in port 8am - 8pm.
North sea oil
transformed this
provincial seaport into a
vibrant and exciting city
that wore its title the
European Capital of Culture
for 2008 with ease. Despite
all the wealth Stavanger is as charming as ever. The
old town, Gamle Stavanger, has narrow winding
streets and ancient houses gathered round the
market. Bars, restaurants, cafes and art galleries are
abound. Worth seeing is the Oil Museum with drilling
equipment, a model oil platform, submersibles and
audio visual shows. And the Nordvergen History
Centre where you can learn more about the Vikings
that once roamed around the countryside. Half day in
port 7.30am - 2pm.
A wide range of over 40 different shore tours are available on this cruise, varying from sightseeing in the cities
