P32 THE STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER Sunday, December 16, 2012 2012 STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER GARRET DOOLEY GABE FERGUSON Rochester Senior/6-3, 225 Linebacker/running back The University of Wisconsin-committed linebacker and Central State Eight Conference Player of the Year finished with 132 tackles, including 81 solo, 18 tackles for loss and 14 ½ sacks, all team highs. In 14 games, Dooley finished with 1,456 rushing yards on 203 carries and ran for 32 touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 474 yards, which led to another five touchdowns. He was also allconference in 2011. Rochester Senior/6-0, 180 Wide receiver/defensive back Caught 24 passes for 425 yards and five touchdowns. He was the only Rockets’ player to return an interception for a touchdown, pulling the feat twice. Finished with 48 tackles. Gabe Ferguson AUSTIN GREEN Garret Dooley Rochester Senior/6-2, 195 Quarterback The fourth straight quarterback from Rochester to go play for a Division I college, the Eastern Illinois University-bound Green quickly shed the shadow of Wes Lunt and forged his own identity as a dual threat. He finished 205-for-283 with 2,794 yards passing while tossing 23 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. C.J. BAKER Rochester Senior/5-9, 180 Wide receiver Had 27 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns but also scored on 50 percent of his carries, getting two touchdowns on his four carries totaling 40 yards. On defense, had 48 tackles and came away with two interceptions. CJ Baker Austin Green GABE GREEN SHG Sophomore/6-1, 195 Quarterback The first sophomore to start the season at quarterback under coach Ken Leonard, the first-year varsity player was 139-for-203 with 1,853 passing. He had 19 touchdowns and threw just four interceptions. He also ran for 775 yards on 133 carries, scoring another 10 TDs. Named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic AllState Team. DALTON BALSTER Springfield High Senior/5-10, 160 Wide receiver In his first year of high school football, Balster finished with 28 receptions, 637 yards and caught 10 touchdowns. In his debut, he had two catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Gabe Green Dalton Balster NATHAN HACK JOHN BELZ Glenwood Senior/6-1, 193 Running back/defensive back Finished with 666 rushing yards on 70 carries and scored 10 touchdowns. He scored two more times on touchdown passes from Miles McAdams and totaled 151 receiving yards on eight catches. On defense, he finished with 45 tackles. SHG Senior/5-8, 170 Linebacker Recorded 120 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Scored the first SHG touchdown on the brandnew Cyclone Stadium artificial turn. Was also one of three Cyclones named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team. John Belz MATT HADDEN Taylorville Senior/6-1, 167 Running back/linebacker Led the Tornadoes with 80 tackles — 44 solo — and four sacks, making the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. He added 295 rushing yards on 56 carries and got the job done in the classroom, being named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team. ERIC BRYDL SHG Senior/6-1, 170 Wide receiver/defensive back On defense, had 44 tackles, three interceptions and recovered three fumbles — and two of those came against Chatham Glenwood that he returned for a pair of 50-yard touchdowns. He also had the game-saving interception against Glenwood as SHG won 40-35. On offense, he caught 28 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Nathan Hack Matt Hadden Eric Brydl DONOVYN HAMMONDS Glenwood Senior/5-11, 180 Running back Led the Titans with 1,480 rushing yards on 203 carries, averaging 7.3 yards per carry and scored 17 touchdowns. He also had the team’s third-most receiving yardage with 172 on eight catches, scoring once. He averaged 20.8 yards per kickoff return as well. Repeat all-conference selection. HUNTER CLARK SHG Senior/6-0, 210 Offensive lineman/linebacker Had 83 tackles on defense. On offense, anchored an offensive line that allowed the Cyclones to move the ball so well all season with close to 4,000 rushing yards and over 1,800 passing yards. Donoyvn Hammonds Hunter Clark BLAKE HANCE Jacksonville Junior/6-6, 255 Tight end/defensive lineman Caught 46 passes for 623 yards for a 13.5 yards per reception average and finished with 23 tackles. DANE EIMER Lincoln Senior/5-10, 160 Wide receiver/defensive back Led the team in both receiving and tackles. On offense, he caught 14 passes for 252 yards. He was an All-CS8 selection last season as a junior. SHG Senior/6-5, 271 Offensive lineman Opened holes to allow the Cyclones to run for 7.9 yards for carry while helping protect a passing game that completed 67 percent of its attempts. Chris Harris Special Mention Alex Palmer MALIK HARRISON BLAKE PASLEY Springfield High Senior/6-1, 185 Running back/defensive back On 100 carries, he had 813 yards for seven touchdowns and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including a 92-yard return. He finished with 51 tackles on defense. Rochester Senior/5-10, 175 Wide receiver Led the team in both receptions (76) and receiving yards (1,127) and finished with nine receiving touchdowns and three rushing scores on just five runs. On 13 kickoff returns, Pasley averaged 34.5 yards and scored twice, both times in the playoffs. He finished Blak Pasley with 43 tackles. Malik Harrison DANIEL HELM Glenwood Junior/6-6, 215 Tight end/linebacker Led the Titans with 119 tackles, 68 solo, broke up four passes, caused two fumbles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Quite the offensive weapon due to his size, he caught a team-high 44 passes for 821 yards, scoring 17 times. He made his first all-CS8 team last season as a sophomore. RILEY REID Daniel Helm Lincoln Senior/6-3, 300 Lineman Recorded 41 tackles, 19 solo, and three tackles for loss in nine games while helping anchor both lines. Riley Reid JONATHAN HUPP HERMAN SENOR SHG Senior/6-3, 260 Offensive lineman/linebacker Finished with 68 tackles and recovered one fumble. On offense, about the only positions he didn’t play at one time or another this season were center and quarterback, mostly playing the guard and Jonathon Hupp tackle positions. But he was able to score three times, throwing on an eligible receiver jersey to run for one touchdown and catch two more in the postseason. Southeast Senior/5-10, 160 Quarterback/defensive back/kicker The do-everything player for the Spartans had 1,180 yards passing on 95-for-188 attempts with eight touchdowns. He also ran for 256 yards on 105 carries and was credited with 16 tackles. Herman Senor JAMES TORGERSON DALTON KEENE Jacksonville Senior/6-4, 260 Tight end/linebacker The Illinois State University-bound tight end caught 40 passes — 10 for touchdowns — for 634 yards, averaging 15.9 yards. Keene finished with 42 tackles. Is a three-time all-CS8 selection. Dalton Keene GRANT LEE Glenwood Senior/6-1, 286 Lineman Opened holes for a team that ran for over 2,700 yards and held the fort, buying quarterback Miles McAdams time to pass for over 1,500 yards. Springfield High Senior/6-6, 275 Lineman Had 39 tackles and helped open holes for the run game as the Senators rushed for over 2,100 yards. Torgerson committed to play at Western Illinois University next season. Was named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State James Torgerson Team. MITCH TREES Grant Lee SHG Junior/6-2, 190 Wide receiver/defensive back Tallied 41 catches and 468 receiving yards to lead the Cyclones in both categories and also made 48 tackles on defense. Mitch Trees DRAKE LEEPER Rochester Senior/5-11, 255 Lineman Finished with 41 tackles on defense. On offense, he was vital in helping protect the quarterback on a team that passed for over 3,000 yards and created holes for a rushing attack that ran for more than 3,200 yards. COPACHE TYLER Drake Leeper Copache Tyler AARON VASQUEZ BROCK LETCHER Taylorville Senior/5-10, 180 Running back/linebacker Led the team in rushing with 489 yards on 96 carries and scored six times. On defense, he finished with 60 tackles, including six for loss. Southeast Senior/6-3, 260 Offensive guard/defensive end On top of his 58 tackles — 40 solo — he had five quarterback sacks for a loss of 25 yards. Has committed to continue his college career at Yale. Brock Letcher Jacksonville Senior/6-0, 170 Wide receiver/defensive back Hauled in eight passes for 133 yards. On defense, had seven interceptions, taking three in for touchdowns. Aaron Vasquez REED WATSON MILES MCADAMS Glenwood Senior/6-2, 190 Quarterback A third-year starter and a two-year All-CS8 player, McAdams played in 38 games, winning 29 of them, over his three-year career. In 2012, he finished 87for-154 with 1,553 yards, 24 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He ended his career with 4,245 passing yards and 48 touchdowns, both second in school history behind Griff Jurgens. Miles McAdams BRINTON WILKEY MATT MEYER Glenwood Senior/6-1, 170 Linebacker Intercepted three passes and finished with 54 tackles, helping anchor a defense that gave up 23 points per game. Rochester Senior/6-2, 235 Linebacker/fullback Despite a broken metacarpal bone in his right hand suffered in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, Watson and his cast came to play every game. He finished with 66 tackles on defense. At fullback, he could be seen opening big holes for the Rochester Reed Watson ball carriers. Matt Meyer Springfield High Junior/6-3, 195 Quarterback/free safety Combined to throw and run for nearly 2,100 yards. He had 988 rushing yards on 188 carries and completed 63 of 125 passes for 1,104 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also ran for 13 touchdowns. He deflected 12 passes Brinton Wilkey on defense and finished with 23 tackles. ANDY MILLS Jacksonville Senior/6-0, 185 Running back/defensive back Became the team’s primary running back and ended the season with 859 yards on 154 carries, scoring eight times. He also caught 22 passes for 146 yards. On defense, he made 66 tackles. TREY WINBERG Andy Mills DARIAN NORVILLE Taylorville Senior/6-2, 205 Offensive lineman/linebacker A two-time All-CS8 pick, Norville finished with 48 tackles, 30 of them solos. In 14 games, Dooley finished with 1,456 rushing yards on 203 carries and ran for 32 touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 474 yards, which led to another five touchdowns. He was also allconference in 2011. Rochester Senior/6-0, 180 Wide receiver/defensive back Caught 24 passes for 425 yards and five touchdowns. He was the only Rockets’ player to return an interception for a touchdown, pulling the feat twice. Finished with 48 tackles. Gabe Ferguson AUSTIN GREEN Garret Dooley Rochester Senior/6-2, 195 Quarterback The fourth straight quarterback from Rochester to go play for a Division I college, the Eastern Illinois University-bound Green quickly shed the shadow of Wes Lunt and forged his own identity as a dual threat. He finished 205-for-283 with 2,794 yards passing while tossing 23 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. C.J. BAKER Rochester Senior/5-9, 180 Wide receiver Had 27 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns but also scored on 50 percent of his carries, getting two touchdowns on his four carries totaling 40 yards. On defense, had 48 tackles and came away with two interceptions. CJ Baker Austin Green GABE GREEN SHG Sophomore/6-1, 195 Quarterback The first sophomore to start the season at quarterback under coach Ken Leonard, the first-year varsity player was 139-for-203 with 1,853 passing. He had 19 touchdowns and threw just four interceptions. He also ran for 775 yards on 133 carries, scoring another 10 TDs. Named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic AllState Team. DALTON BALSTER Springfield High Senior/5-10, 160 Wide receiver In his first year of high school football, Balster finished with 28 receptions, 637 yards and caught 10 touchdowns. In his debut, he had two catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Gabe Green Dalton Balster NATHAN HACK JOHN BELZ Glenwood Senior/6-1, 193 Running back/defensive back Finished with 666 rushing yards on 70 carries and scored 10 touchdowns. He scored two more times on touchdown passes from Miles McAdams and totaled 151 receiving yards on eight catches. On defense, he finished with 45 tackles. SHG Senior/5-8, 170 Linebacker Recorded 120 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Scored the first SHG touchdown on the brandnew Cyclone Stadium artificial turn. Was also one of three Cyclones named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team. John Belz MATT HADDEN Taylorville Senior/6-1, 167 Running back/linebacker Led the Tornadoes with 80 tackles — 44 solo — and four sacks, making the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. He added 295 rushing yards on 56 carries and got the job done in the classroom, being named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team. ERIC BRYDL SHG Senior/6-1, 170 Wide receiver/defensive back On defense, had 44 tackles, three interceptions and recovered three fumbles — and two of those came against Chatham Glenwood that he returned for a pair of 50-yard touchdowns. He also had the game-saving interception against Glenwood as SHG won 40-35. On offense, he caught 28 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Nathan Hack Matt Hadden Eric Brydl DONOVYN HAMMONDS Glenwood Senior/5-11, 180 Running back Led the Titans with 1,480 rushing yards on 203 carries, averaging 7.3 yards per carry and scored 17 touchdowns. He also had the team’s third-most receiving yardage with 172 on eight catches, scoring once. He averaged 20.8 yards per kickoff return as well. Repeat all-conference selection. HUNTER CLARK SHG Senior/6-0, 210 Offensive lineman/linebacker Had 83 tackles on defense. On offense, anchored an offensive line that allowed the Cyclones to move the ball so well all season with close to 4,000 rushing yards and over 1,800 passing yards. Donoyvn Hammonds Hunter Clark BLAKE HANCE Jacksonville Junior/6-6, 255 Tight end/defensive lineman Caught 46 passes for 623 yards for a 13.5 yards per reception average and finished with 23 tackles. DANE EIMER Lincoln Senior/5-10, 160 Wide receiver/defensive back Led the team in both receiving and tackles. On offense, he caught 14 passes for 252 yards.
