Presents Self-Care for Providers and Caregivers Presenter: Mark Katz, Ph.D. Date: Wednesday, April 20, 2016 Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Location: Academy for Professional Excellence— Upstairs Training Room 6505 Alvarado Rd, Suite 105 San Diego, CA 92120 Target Audience: Counselors, family and youth support partners, therapists, case managers, teachers, social workers, probation officers, and other individuals working with children, youth, and families. Course Description: Working as a provider or caregiver involved in the care of children and their families can take an emotional toll that compromises professional functioning and quality of life. Caring for yourself is one of the most important (and often one of the most overlooked) things you can do as a provider or caregiver. When your needs are taken care of, the people you care for will benefit, too. This interactive training will provide you with an overview on how to increase provider resiliency and will illustrate how organizations and individuals can implement strategies that encourage self-care, promote awareness about vicarious trauma and reduce compassion fatigue and burnout. Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Define self-care and its importance Explain secondary (or vicarious) trauma Describe the potential impact of vicarious trauma on health workers Identify at least 3 self-care strategies or activities Develop a self-care plan [email protected] This course meets the qualifications for 4 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, PCE 3776.
