Friday 27 June will be a sad day for Lindisfarne as we farewell one of our much loved
teachers, Mr Fitz (aka Mr Duncan FitzGerald). Duncan, along with his family, are off on
an exciting adventure to teach in China and whilst we wish them all the very best, we
have selfishly been dreading their leaving. During his time at Lindisfarne, Duncan has
touched the lives of many with his dedicated, caring and creative approach to teaching
and he will be greatly missed.
Mrs Amy Williamson, who is returning from maternity leave, will take over the teaching
of Year 3F.

Music News @ Sunshine Avenue
On Monday the Choir and String Ensembles performed at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing of Arts. The Choir
received a 1st place in the Year 3/4 Primary Choir - no actions and a 2nd place in the Primary School Choir - with actions.
The beginner String Ensemble and Year 4 Ensemble both performed in the strings section with the Year 4 Ensemble
receiving a 1st place and the beginner Ensemble placing 2nd.
All students performed admirably and were excellent ambassadors for Lindisfarne. I was impressed with their behaviour
and the manner in which they conducted themselves whilst out in public. I would like to thank Mary Walters, our wonderful
accompanist, for her work with the choir and Sophie Mathison for the amazing work she has done with our young string
players in both ensembles. Lastly I also would like to congratulate all the students who participated for all their hard work
and dedication.

Kitchen Garden News
Year 4T students have been busy putting in the
first plants in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen
Garden Program. You may have noticed some
other vegetable gardens popping around the
place. The raised garden near the OOSHC
has started to sprout veges and we are
looking forward to building some more garden
beds near the chicken coop and outside the
Preschool buildings.
Setting up the kitchen has been the main focus
over this term and where most of the money
has gone. The kitchen should be up and
running early next term.
If you have any gardening or kitchen skills/
ideas we would love your help. Please speak
to the Year 3 and Year 4 teachers for more
information.
•Thank you for the donations of pasta
makers - Richards family, Lark family and
anonymous.
•
Thank you to Kate Rogers for
the donation of some shelving for
the kitchen pantry.

Stage 3 News
My Family Project
On Friday 13 June, Stage 3 went to the lecture theatre to
participate in a program called the “My Family Project”. We
learnt that your family is more interesting than it really seems
and that it is important to talk about your family. A lady named
Paula ran the program and she was very interesting. She
taught us lots of things like, who you can talk to when you
are feeling down, what you can do without help from others
and changes and challenges that can happen in a family. Our
favourite part was when we got to draw a family portrait. All
students in Stage 3 would like to thank Paula for her time and
taking the lesson.

Stage 3 Performing Arts
The students of Stage 3 have had a great term doing Dance
and Drama with Miss Casey and Mrs Skene. They have learnt
many new skills and have had a ball participating in a wide
range of activities.

Year 5 Dance
We start off the lesson by doing some
cardio and stretches. All of this is warming us
up to practise our dance. Sometimes we would do
corner work or go over dance steps before practising
our dance. Our dance has been so much fun to learn
and practise.
Next term, we will be doing drama with Miss Skene and we
can’t wait! Thank you so much to Miss Affleck for organising
this wonderful opportunity!

Every Monday morning, Year 5 has been doing dance
lessons with Miss Casey. We have been dancing in the shed
and it is an amazing opportunity. We are doing all of this in
preparation for our concert at the end of the year.
By Alice McDougall and Samantha Hodges
This term we have played a lot of fun games to develop our
drama skills. We have acted out mimes and improvisations
and also re-enacted times in our lives when we felt happy.
We have enjoyed doing Drama with Mrs Skene and would
like to thank her for helping to build our confidence and skills
when speaking in front of groups.

News from the Joey’s Room
Winning at the Eisteddfod
‘Our Pets’
In the Joey’s room we have been learning about pets. Our
Joey friends were invited to bring in a photo of their pets to
share with the class. Some of our friends sent their photos in
via email. The children were very excited and interested to
print them off the computer and help collect them from the
printing machine. Koa sent in some photos of his pet cockatiel
named Sunny. Koa said, “Sunny likes to peck my hair”. The
children enjoyed viewing their photos on the computer. This
learning opportunity encourages the children to identify the
value of technology in everyday life, and teaches them how
we can access images to share information with others. It
also allowed the children to convey and construct messages
with purpose and build on home and family literacies. The
children were confident talking about their pets as it is was a
topic of interest for them. James said, “My dog Rosy likes to
play chasing games.” Callum told us, “Daley is a whippet and
likes to run really fast.” Sana told us her dog Millie likes to
bark all day. Wallace said, “My dog Xena likes to lick me and
play ball games.” Freya informed us that her cat Minti likes to
sleep all day long.
Congratulations to Kindergarten on
placing first at the Murwillumbah
Performing Arts Festival. They recited
the poem ‘Brave Dave’ and were
commended for their fantastic use of
emphasis, effective actions and very
good expression. Thank you to all who
were involved and especially to our
wonderful conductor, Miss Rolfe and
Kim Shepherd for their tireless efforts.
What an amazing achievement.
Kindergarten Frogs - Monster Hotel
Australian artist Hiromi Tango, who is one of our kindergarten
mums worked with Kindergarten Frogs making little Monsters
(Montas), using plastic balls, fabric , pipe cleaners and bells.
This was a truly magical experience for all involved and all
the artwork produced by these children will be hung in an eye
– catching sculpture at the Cultural Forecourt in South Bank,
Brisbane. Children can take part in this event next week from
9:30am to 2:00pm.
Bon Voyage
Mrs Pam will be leaving for a wonderful 6 week trip overseas
on Saturday. We wish her a wonderful time abroad. Miss
Laura Hutton will be replacing Mrs Pam for the first 3 weeks
of Term 3.
Dress Ups
We are in need of some new dress-ups for the children. We
need male and female clothes items that the children can
wear in their pretend play.
We would really like:
•
Womens/girls dresses or skirts in small sizes
•Mens/boys clothing - old sporting uniforms and hats
would be great.

Circle of Security Parenting Course
The Circle of Security parenting course that was due to
run next term at Lindisfarne is now cancelled. The course
is being run on a weekend in Brisbane on 2 & 3 August.
Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter
Jo Hetherington, Director of Early Learning
Circle of Security Parenting Course
What does my child need from me? How can I relate better to my child?
How can I support my child’s independence?
Why do some of my child’s behaviours affect me so much?
How can I make parenting easier?
Circle of Security (COS) is an internationally recognised parent education program based on
fifty years of research. It is a relationship-based program, developed in America, for parents
with children aged between 0-5 (expectant parents are also welcome to attend).
!
Learning about your child’s emotional needs and the best ways to respond to these can help
your child to have better relationships, improved behaviour, increased empathy, greater selfesteem, enhanced school readiness and increased resilience for coping with life’s challenges.
!
This course is presented by Dr Kaylene Henderson - an Australian Child & Adolescent
Psychiatrist and registered Circle of Security Parent Educator who has been trained in the
Program by one of its founders. Dr Henderson is also a regular expert contributor to
numerous international parenting magazines and websites. Along with her engaged social
media following, she also has three young ‘followers’ at home for whom she is ‘Mummy’.
!
Rarely offered in Australia, this is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy this course as a condensed
weekend workshop. Places are limited so book now to enjoy this outstanding course and the
many benefits it will bring to your confidence in your parenting role and enjoyment of your
young family.
!
Course costs only $295 (+GST) for early registrations with further discounts available for couples.

Circle of Security Parenting Course
Information Sheet
“This is such a wonderful program that really takes the
guesswork out of parenting. By learning how to respond to
our children in the ways taught in this course, we can grow
ever-confident that we are raising our children to be wellbalanced, loving and independent. And best of all, we can
teach them how to pass on these qualities to future generations.”
Dr Kaylene Henderson MBBS FRANZCP Cert C & A Psych
Infant, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Registered Circle of Security Parent Educator.
About the course: The Circle of Security Parenting Course is an internationally recognised program based on decades of
university based research. It provides a ‘roadmap’ to help parents become more aware of their children’s needs and determine
the best responses to meet those needs. Using DVD examples of real families, we will see how our parenting choices impact upon
our relationships with our children, on their behaviour and on a range of longer-term developmental outcomes for our kids.
While usually run as an 8 week program, this is an exciting opportunity to attend this fantastic course in a condensed ‘Weekend
Workshop’ format - rarely offered in Australia yet perfect for busy parents.
!
Who should attend: The course has been developed for parents of children aged between 0-5, but expectant parents are also
invited to attend. Whether you’re struggling with your parenting role or just wanting tips on how to be the best parent you can
be, you will find this course to be invaluable. While it is extremely helpful if both parents can attend the course to provide a
shared understanding of the concepts, handouts will be provided to take home to your partner if this is not possible. (Please note
that children are unable to attend. Furthermore, while most parents would find this course to be very beneficial, if you or your
child has had a history of trauma or mental health issues then seeking out individual sessions would be more helpful for you).
!
What to expect: This course will be run over a weekend with the content split over the 2 days. On each of the days you will
learn about the concepts of the Circle of Security ‘roadmap’ and watch DVD examples. You will be asked to reflect upon your own
experiences of being parented and the way that this has influenced your parenting style. (Don’t worry, you won’t be under any
pressure to share these experiences with the group). Through the DVD clips and Dr Henderson’s teaching, you will begin to better
understand your child’s behaviour, recognise the underlying emotional needs and the importance of responding in ways that
meet these needs, both for short-term behavioural change and long term developmental outcomes.
!
About the presenter: Dr Kaylene Henderson is an Australian-trained Infant, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and mother of
three young children. Dr Henderson is also the author of the Little Children Big Dreams children’s story series to help children
overcome their bedtime fears as well as a regular expert contributor to numerous international parenting magazines and
websites. In all forms of her work as a presenter, doctor and writer, Dr Henderson is passionate about helping parents to
connect with their children while guiding them towards their full potential.
!
Cost: Course cost is $295 (plus GST) at the early registration rate, or $375 (plus GST) thereafter - further discounts apply for
!
couples attending together. Writing materials, course handouts and refreshments will be supplied. A certificate of attendance
will be given to each participant upon completion of the course.
!
How to book: To secure your place, simply go to the Little Children Big Dreams website and select your
preferred course date and location. Your payment will be securely processed using PayPal and you will receive
confirm of your booking from Dr Henderson directly.
Places are strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment: www.littlechildrenbigdreams.com
