Ceremonies in Wiltshire
Ceremonies in Wiltshire Welcome to Wiltshire A very warm welcome to the historic and picturesque County of Wiltshire, renowned throughout the world for its mysterious stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury forming a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with its white chalk horses, beautiful rolling countryside and historic towns and villages. In addition to the principal market towns steeped in history and tradition, we have exquisite villages and the beautiful City of Salisbury which, having developed and grown from the site of an iron age fort about 2,500 years ago, became established as a town in the eleventh century. To this day Salisbury cathedral remains home to one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta, one of the most famous documents in the world dating back over 800 years. This document remains a cornerstone of the British Constitution to this day. Wiltshire is situated in the South West of England and is easily accessible by motorway, rail and air. Photography by Jamie McDine wiltshireweddingphotography.org.uk So, what can we offer for your Wiltshire Wedding? Congratulations, on your engagement! Thoughts now turn to planning your wedding, but where do you start? Gone are the days when a civil wedding meant a quick legal ceremony in front of an office desk. Today you can have almost any kind of wedding, from a simple intimate ceremony with a couple of friends as witnesses, to a grand affair with bridesmaids, attendants, readings, enhancements and music. 7 Silver Street , Bradford On Avon, Wiltshire BA15 1JY Website www.flossyandwillow.co.uk Email [email protected] Phone 01225 867600 www.ceremoniesinwiltshire.co.uk 1 You can book as far ahead as you wish, once you have decided on a location and date. Civil Partnerships Perhaps you would like to celebrate your Wiltshire ceremony in the great outdoors, a family home or garden or other location special to you as a couple? Don’t worry we can solve the dilemma for you through our Combination Ceremony. The law in this country enables same sex couples to choose between entering into marriage or forming a civil partnership. If you have decided you would prefer a civil partnership our registration team will be happy to work with you to create a unique and individual ceremony to make you day very special. You can choose to form your partnership at a Registration Office or Approved Venue. You may also wish to consider our Combination Ceremony. • A Combination Ceremony combines a small legal ceremony (for the couple and two witnesses at your local Registration Office) followed by a second ceremony, personalised to your own specifications and wishes, at your chosen venue. • Both can be conducted on the same day but must be conducted within 28 days of each other. The legal ceremony must take place first. Where possible, the same celebrant will conduct both of your celebrations. • You may be considering having your ceremony: In a garden By a lake In a woodland On a boat On a train In a treehouse On board a hot air balloon In a sports venue In a park In a Marquee, Yurt or Teepee In a gazebo Before you can marry or register your civil partnership, each of you must give formal Notice of your intention in person. Notices can be given up to one year in advance, but not less than 28 clear days before your ceremony date. Please contact your local Register Office for advice. Please email [email protected] or telephone 0300 0034570 for further information, advice or to book your ceremony. You book the location, and we will endeavour to make it happen. Lawes Photography wedding photographers willowstone-photography.co.uk You can follow a traditional format, or you may wish to enhance your wedding by including something unique and individual to you. Promises: In addition, you might want to add personal promises, music and readings to make your ceremony unique and meaningful. We would encourage you to write your own but we have many examples we would be happy to share with you. www.ceremoniesinwiltshire.co.uk 11 dhbweddings.co.uk Readings: Well-chosen readings can really help to personalize your ceremony. They are a wonderful way of involving friends or relatives on the day. You can choose something romantic, funny or poignant. Why not create something original by writing it yourself? Finding the right words to express how you feel about each other and what marriage means to you, can make the day even more special. “Thank you for conducting our wedding. It was a truly moving occasion and your warmth and friendliness was appreciated by all, especially when we got a bit teary!’” - M&G 12 What happens on the day Other Occasions to celebrate On Arrival Prior to the Wedding, the celebrant and the registrar will meet you at the venue approximately half an hour before the start of the ceremony, either together or individually - the choice is yours! This is to check that the details to be entered into the marriage register are correct and talk through the ceremony to put you at ease so that you can enjoy your day. Celebration of Marriage Let us create a individual and exclusive ceremony for you where you will have the opportunity to declare your love and commitment to each other again in a venue of your choice. Who can have one? Some simple things to remember to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day: • Make allowances for traffic delays • Check where parking is available for you and your guests and let them know • Factor in time for any pre-wedding photographs you have arranged kp-photo.co.uk dhbweddings.co.uk Order of Ceremony • • • • • • • • • • • • • Couples that have already legally married or registered their civil partnership. We just need you to provide us with a copy of your marriage certificate. kp-photo.co.uk photography by joestallardphotography.co.uk Why should I have one? Background music of your choice can be played as your guests are seated Processional music for the arrival of the wedding party Welcome and Introduction by the celebrant A reading by a member of your wedding party The marriage declaration and contracting words Additional promises and the exchange of rings Optional additional reading Formal announcement that the couple are married Signing of the register Closing words Presentation of the marriage certificate Exit of the bride and groom followed by their family and friends Please note the Order of Ceremony can vary slightly depending on your choices www.ceremoniesinwiltshire.co.uk 13 • It’s a great way to commemorate a special anniversary by renewing your vows, • If you married abroad or quietly in this country you may want to celebrate your union in the presence of wider family and friends, • If you are converting a civil partnership to marriage and want to share the moment with those who are important to you. • Celebrate your renewed commitment to each other. Where can I have my ceremony? As the Celebration of Marriage ceremony has no legal standing, it can be held in a location of your choice. Alternatively, you may wish to choose one of our approved venues, or one of our beautiful ceremony rooms. Please email [email protected] or telephone 0300 0034570 for further information, advice or to book your ceremony. “Our guests were saying how lovely the ceremony was and the registrars made it such a nice service with their relaxed and friendly presence.” - L&C 14 Welcoming Ceremony Citizenship Ceremony What could be more special than welcoming a child into a family? Whether a new baby or an older child, this is a time to celebrate. Congratulations if you are in the process of becoming a new British Citizen. A Citizenship ceremony marks the final part of the process of becoming a new citizen and we welcome the opportunity to celebrate this special occasion with you! Group ceremonies are held regularly in our main registration buildings and are usually attended by a local dignitary. You may however choose to have a private ceremony instead of attending a group ceremony. We can organise this for you. • A Welcoming or Naming ceremony provides a unique opportunity to make promises to guide, nurture and protect your child. It can include promises from specially chosen adults to show how much this child means to them and to offer you their support in your child’s future. • We can provide a personal, relaxed and happy ceremony, tailored to your wishes, which can be held wherever and whenever you choose. • Children of any age can have a Welcoming Ceremony and if you have more than one child they can all take part in the same ceremony. • This could also be combined with other ceremonies. Please speak to our ceremonies team to find out more. During the ceremony our new citizens are asked to make promises and swear or affirm an oath to our Queen and country. The ceremony concludes when the new citizens are presented with their certificate of naturalisation.
