I just want to thank everyone who volunteered
There are some people that I need to thank. I first have to thank Jane
Cordova. For those of you who don’t know, Jane was the carnival
chairwoman, for over fifteen years, and all of the past carnival captains that
had stepped down this year. Thanks to the ground work that you did for the carnival, we had a
smooth and successful transition.
Due to space restrictions I cannot mention everyone that was helping us this year but I do
have to thank my assistant chairman Lenny Constantinopoli and our operations man Ryan
Cordova, their help was invaluable. Thanks to all of the people that stepped up this year to
take on new roles as carnival captains or assistant captains, and to my friends at Family
Ministry that the day after I agreed to be the carnival chairman they all came forward to offer
their help. This is how we as a community will continue to grow.
People have been coming up to me and congratulating me for running a successful carnival
and as I have been saying all along OUR carnival was a success because of all of YOU, the
volunteers. It was YOUR hard work that made this a success, so many of you were here
every night even in the rain. I was just here to help steer the ship and with the rain we had
those two days I almost needed a ship to get across the lot.
I still do not have all of the numbers as to how we did financially. I can tell you that even with
one day being rained out and having to open later on Saturday we were a success. Let me
share these few things that happened over the week of the carnival and you will see why I say
we were successful. Over the five days I had the privilege to meet members of our Parish
community that not only came down and volunteered but were there enjoying themselves with
their families for the first time at our carnival. On Saturday night after the rain had stopped, a
young lady who just moved back to the area came up to me to volunteer for next year’s
carnival. She had told me that her grandparents and her parents had always helped out and
she wants to continue the tradition.
Being there on Monday and Tuesday during the set up, I witnessed the amount of families that
were coming to our outreach program. One of the ladies that volunteered in outreach told me
that the summer months are the hardest and that our pantry is running low on food. On
Tuesday I was telling this to a friend of mine who had seen me in the parking lot and stopped,
that night he told this to his wife. On Wednesday she was talking to her coworkers about our
pantry being low on food and they decided to have a one day food drive at their office to help
out. By the end of the day, Thursday, they had raised over $700 in cash and had collected
over six big bags of food for our outreach pantry. So this is why I say we were successful.
We came together as a Catholic community where Christ is always present to us. It is like the
passage from 1 Kings 19:11-14 where Elijah heard and recognized the Lord speaking to him
in a whisper. It is through the everyday events and the people we meet that we see Christ in
them and hopefully they were able to see Christ in us. Remember this, the only place you find
money before success is in the dictionary. So this is why I say that our carnival was a success. It was my pleasure and honor to be Your carnival chairman this year.

Walk for ALS
Sept 29, 2012, which is a Saturday, we will be walking at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow
for the benefit of ALS victims. (Joan) Jerry formed a team, "all 4 Joan". The walk starts at 9:30
AM, and we will be there. If you're interested, go to http://www.alswalks.org/ in order to register
and join us. It's a 3 mile walk, and we will be pushing Joan in a wheelchair hopefully. If you
can't walk with us, but want to donate to ALS, go to the site, click on "join a team", enter "all 4
Joan", and you'll be prompted. Last year we walked and we raised over $4000 in Joans name
for ALS. We go to ALS every 3 months at Stony Brook, Joan sees at least 8 health
professionals, they give is advice, Rx's and any help we need. They call us once a week just
to see how she is doing. Anyone who can come is welcome, please register as a team
member for "all 4 Joan". Went to a support group meeting today, and they said there will be
food (breakfast and lunch), music, lots of fun, games for the kids, etc. Please come if you can.
Registration starts at 9:30AM.
Thank You, Tony Bassolino

C & B Chances sold after Mass in the Narthex
FOR THOSE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES
Lord of Hosts, we commend to Your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at
home and abroad. Defend them day by day with Your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and
temptations; give them courage to face the perils that beset them; and grant them Your abiding presence
wherever they may be. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
