CHRISTMAS
IN THE ALPS
Flocks come back down from their summer
pastures in early autumn and their return to the
valley has been symbolised and celebrated by
this event since the Middle Ages.
On the second Saturday of October, the streets
of Annecy are filled with artisans, age-old
crafts, folklore groups with traditional
instruments and regional producers. The
region’s locals always come here to celebrate
the arrival of autumn their way.
To end the year on a high, Annecy puts on its
Christmas attire for visitors: illuminations,
entertainment for all ages, concerts,
nativities, Christmas markets, skating
rink and tourist train. This is a great way
to see Annecy in another light in a warm and
social setting with fabulous views of the lake
and snow-capped mountains.
Music and fireworks show, 9pm-11pm, Talloires
Bay. The Pyroconcert is a show that awakens
all the senses: sight, smell, hearing and even
taste for those who sip a cocktail on the night.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the
Pyroconcert, Fêtes et Feux and the town of
Talloires-Montmin have decided to pay tribute
to Queen with Cover Queen performing
“We are the Champions”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”,
“I want to break free” and more.
The event brings live music in an untouched
setting together with pyrotechnic and light
effects illuminating Talloires Bay.
Directed by Jean Eric Ougier, lighting and

SUNSHINE AND BEACHES MAKE WAY FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL
SHOPPING IN OCTOBER. THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO STOCK UP
ON SUPPLIES AND LEARN FROM LOCAL EXPERTISE IN THE SHOPS
AND DESIGNER MARKETS.
The partly pedestrian old town is
bursting with canals and teeming
with shops, restaurants, cafés and
the market (Tuesday, Friday and
Sunday).
If you’re looking for new design
ideas, treat yourself to something
special from the jewellery
workshops, grab a bargain gament
or accessory from the flea market
or unearth a new painting from
the art market. The local designers
reflect Annecy’s signature “art
de vivre”.
WELLNESS
It’s also a great time to pamper yourself before winter sets in. Head for
the Spa des Trésoms for themed seasonal treatments and the special
September/October “Indian summer” (scrub and massage).
Must-visit streets:
Rue Royale, Rue Vaugelas,
Rue Sommellier and Rue Carnot.

BETWEEN LAKE AND MOUNTAINS,
CITY IDEAL FOR BUSINESS TOURISM
Business tourism is an integral part of Lake Annecy’s
tourism and, perhaps surprisingly, it is older than
regular tourism.
In France, it accounts for 8.5 billion euros in
economic benefits, 300,000 jobs and 107 million
euros in Annecy. The Rhône-Alpes region ranks 3
in business tourism and Annecy comes 2nd after Lyon.
The Lac Annecy Congrès brand, part of Tourist
Information, has two main goals: to promote and
organise business events.

ANNECY
OLD TOWN
In addition to the Green Path
along the lake between Annecy
and Doussard, Haute-Savoie
Council and SILA (Lake Annecy
Union) have designed a cycle
path between Annecy-le-Vieux
and Doussard. The project aims
to boost tourism in the lake area
and leisure services for locals as
well as encourage green modes of
transport. The path will come full
circle by 2020.
The old town streets were getting
traffic that was totally unsuitable
for them and will now be far more
pleasant for all the pedestrians
visiting the area.
Work will be conducted in several
stages from early April to late
November 2016.
Work will be suspended during
summer 2016. The final stage
setting up Rue Filaterie is
scheduled for 2017.

BUILD THE
TRÉSUMS SITE
3
The urban landscaping project to
renovate the former hospital into a
residential area is called “L’AvantScène - Annecy Tresums” and
owes its name to its great lakeside
location at the foot of the Bauges
Mountains. The seven plots of two
or three buildings will stretch to the
heart of a leafy 6 hectare park and
will be arranged in several levels to
link the lake to the ledge.
In addition to the planned 632
lodgings, the site will have an
old people’s home with 109 rooms,
a hotel with 110 rooms and a
large 2ha public park.
The first deliveries are expected
by the end of 2017.
“L’Avant-Scène - Annecy Trésums”
is designed by Christian de
Portzamparc, French architect and
urban planner.

Given that the lake water is what the 140,000
people living in the Annecy area drink, the idea
is to give out reusable glass bottles for
free to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
The bottles can be filled at the many water
fountains throughout Annecy. The bottles come
with a specially designed map. The team also
gives up their time to clean up the lake banks.
