Friends of the Library is now holding its Annual Membership Drive for the 2014/2015 year and they are
looking to increase their membership!

Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the Elwood Public Library Fall
Book Sale will be held on Saturday, September 20
from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, September 21
from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elwood Public Library.
Help with setup the day before Saturday’s event and take-down on Monday
morning is greatly appreciated. Please leave your name at the Reference

Book Discussions
Morning Book Discussions are held the second
Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, August 13 – The Butterfly’s
Daughter by Mary Alice Monroe. This novel
follows the transformational stories of four
women inspired by the annual migration of
monarch butterflies. One of the women, Luz,
returns to her late grandmother’s Mexican village
and unexpectedly encounters the mother she had
believed dead.
Wednesday, September 10 – The Light Between
Oceans by M. L. Stedman. This novel is set on a
remote Australian island, where a childless couple
lives quietly, running a lighthouse until a boat
carrying a baby washes ashore. The choices they
make shape their lives and the lives of others.
Evening Book Discussions are held the third
Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 20 – The Dinner by
Herman Koch. Two couples meet at a fashionable
restaurant for dinner in Amsterdam. Between
mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings
of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum
of polite discourse. Behind the empty words,
however, terrible things need to be said, and
with every forced smile and every new course,
the knives are being sharpened. As civility and
friendship disintegrate, each couple shows just
how far they are prepared to go to protect those

by Phoebe Damrosch. Kitchen Confidential meets
