Students Guide - IT Services (ITS)
1. Our Mission
IT Services department is committed to align its services with the Alfaisal objectives to
provide excellent IT services. The investment made in People, Processes, and Technologies
to develop the IT infrastructure coupled with effective IT leaderships will enable the
university to achieve its goals and objectives for quality teaching and research.
2. Our Vision:
The ITS strategy is to early adopt new technologies to cater for all IT needs of our faculties,
researchers, and students. For this, ITS vision is to become an EFFECTIVE IT service provider
and a LEADER in IT management for higher education.
3. Objectives
The key purpose of this document is:
To provide an overall summary of the services provided by ITS to assist new students
with most common IT related issues.
4. IT Services (What we do)?
ITS is the central facility at Alfaisal University responsible for providing IT services to support all
faculties and business areas. The offered services are grouped into five categories:
4.1 IT Management and Compliance:
Manages the IT business and ensure proper compliance of IT standards. The IT Standards
applied will be based on established frameworks, such as: ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library),
COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology), ISO (International
Organization for Standardization), CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Institute) and PMI
(Project Management Institute).
4.2 Information Systems Management:
Plan, develop and deploy business application solutions. The department will be an
active member of the IT Projects Committee for subject related matters.
4.3 IT Infrastructure:
Manage infrastructure hardware and software. The department will be an active
member of the IT Projects Committee for subject related matter.

4.4 User Support Services
Manage and operate the ‘IT Service Desk’ to provide first line support for application
and desktop users.
4.5 Web services:
Plan, develop, and deploy all web related services including on-going support of business
development and university portal management. Each of these categories has its own
mission, structure, and approach to provide different services in accordance with an overall IT
Governance framework, with focus on alignment with Alfaisal’s business objectives.
5. Getting Started
5.1 Internet Access
Students can access services offered by ITS, including Internet, through wireless networks
only using their personal laptops, Smart phones and PDAs. Currently, this covers the
buildings in both Colleges of Science and College of Business buildings. The wireless
password will be mailed to you by Student Affairs or can be obtained from the IT Services
anytime during the regular working hours; 9 A.M to 5 P.M
5.2 MS Office suite
Under the Alfaisal Campus agreement with Microsoft, staff and faculty can avail the most
recent licensed MS Office Suite installed on their own laptops. The installation is limited to
single license per faculty / staff. In order to do that kindly fill in a request ticket to get an
appointment with IT staff at http://itsupport.alfaisal.edu/
Step Requirement:



Remove any previous installation of Microsoft Office.
Fully charge your laptop.
Bring in your Alfaisal ID.
5.4 Storage
For data storage, the students can store and share data using the campus file server.
5.5 Printers, Scanners and Faxes
Students can utilize the printers, scanners and faxes installed in the Matlab and the Library
as per Alfaisal Student policy. Each student would be provided with a prepaid account of
SAR 50 which gets deducted based on the number of pages printed. Students are requested
to log off from the lab computers after usage to prevent account theft or print credit theft.

5.7 Alfaisal Portal –Students Corner
Students are encouraged to publish their articles and content on Alfaisal website. Publishing
content on the official website requires approval from the Dean of your college and PR
Department.
5.8 Email Access
Your Alfaisal email ID and password will be mailed to your personal email by Student Affairs.
Students can access their emails using webmail from anywhere. http://smail.alfaisal.edu/
5.9 Changing the Alfaisal email password
1. Go to https://passwordreset.alfaisal.edu/
2. Enter your alfaisal user name then click next.

3. You will receive security code in your Alfaisal email.
4. Enter the security code and click next.

5. Enter and re-enter the new password and click next.
5.10 Access to e-Learning (Moodle)

5.11 Netclassroom Portal
Netclassroom gives our students easy access to the Calendar, Assignments, Grades and
Report Cards. This service can be accessed by clicking the blue icon above.
Please note that Netclassroom uses its own set of credentials; the Username and password
required for access and will be provided by Student Affairs
