Lagan Cement News
Quarry Safety
July 2015
At Lagan Cement we are aiming to create awareness within the local community to the many dangers of entering quarries
uninvited. As a company, Health and Safety is our top priority, and to that end, we are working with a number of organisations to
promote a ‘Stay Safe’ campaign. This campaign involves engaging with children, teenagers, parents, teachers and youth workers
about the risks associated with quarries and swimming in cold quarry waters.

Lagan excels at
accreditations
Lagan were one of the first companies in
Ireland to be audited recently to the BES
6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction
Products Standard (Version 3). Lagan are one
of the few companies in Ireland to hold this
accreditation.
BES 6001 accreditation represents our ongoing
commitment to sustainability. This certification
reflects the high standards required both within
our operations and those of our suppliers.
In addition, Lagan Cement have been
successfully certified to the ISO 14001
Environmental Management Systems standard
for the past 12 years. This internationally
recognised standard has been meticulously
maintained and continuously improved since
we were first certified in 2003.
We are also aiming to become certified to the
ISO 50001 Energy Management standard by the
end of this year.
Going green
Some world famous landmarks went
green for St. Patricks Day on the 17th
of March and Lagan Cement decided to
join the trend!
Rome’s Colosseum, the Sacré-Cœur
Basilica in Paris, the Christ the
Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro
and even the Equator Sign and Line in
Uganda all went green for St. Patricks
Day as the world celebrated the Irish,
and so too did Lagan Cement.
To celebrate our national holiday at the
plant, the cement silo was festooned
in a green glow by our Electrical
Department. The lights used were
energy efficient LED bulbs, as energy
efficiency and sustainability is always a
priority at Lagan Cement.

IT Sligo on-site tour
On the 13th March, our sustainability manager, David Tobin, arranged for
students from the Environmental Management course in Sligo Institute
of Technology to have a site visit. The students found it very educational
and were impressed with the site and the experience on the day.
The trip was organised as part of Lagan’s outreach to third level college
programmes. In addition to this, Lagan has welcomed students from
Athlone IT, Queens University Belfast and Carlow Institute of Technology.
We hope to continue engaging with students as part of our on-going
outreach programme.
