HISTORY OF THE DOWNTOWN LOUNGE
THE DOWNTOWN LOUNGE formerly
known as the “DTL” leaves no sport
uncovered. This pub has evolved into
more than just a bar. It is Lebanon’s
favorite sports bar, it’s a community
gathering place, and “an overgrown
family room” where friends meet to share
the latest sports news, hoist a few beers,
laugh and enjoy the chef’s specialties.
Open since May of 1979, this family pub
was built, owned, and operated by the
Riley’s. It has gone through many
changes to evolve into what it is today, a
place where there are no strangers, only
friends not yet met.
This pub is not only rich in friends and
community, but rich in history. The
DTL building dates back to the 1860’s.
Franzes’ furniture store and casket maker,
which doubled as a funeral parlor, not
uncommon in those days was the first
business to operate in this historic
building. The remaining space was
utilized by an eye doctor’s office and
store front used for displays. The Reliable
Dress Shop, a women’s clothing store,
replaced the Franzes in 1965. Jim Kline
became the proud owner in 1967 and
rented it to Skip Hunsicker’s TV and
Repair shop.
In 1978 the building was purchased by
the Rileys’. It has gone through many
renovations to reflect the interests of the
clientele.
The Riley family continues to personally
enjoy all of its customers who are
continuing to make history by coming in
to enjoy the food, fellowship, and fun.
