Cycling Route of the beaches. 4 www.turismovenezia.it/facebook Cavallino, Jesolo, Eraclea, Duna Verde, Caorle. T his excursion will give you the privilege to discover a distinctive territory characterized by the happy combination of different water elements: lagoon, sea, rivers and canals, sweetly flowing and mingling with the warm and vivid countryside colours. 2 04 SchedaVe Spiagge_EN.indd 1-3 Departing from Cavallino locks (2), keep going on via Cristo Re alongside of river Sile (1) wiggly bends, thick with reeds and populated with coots and mute swans, until you reach the church of San Giovanni Battista, the most ancient in the lower Piave area: around it the historic centre of Jesolo developed. Very suggestive is the “Antiche Mura” archaeological site, conserving the remains of the Santa Maria cathedral. From piazza I Maggio take via Battisti and at the traffic light turn left; ride along via Roma Sinistra for about 3 Kms up to via Posteselle: enter it and immerse yourself in the relaxing countryside environment until you come to the junction with via Colombo. Turn left and follow the road along Cavetta canal as far as the centre of Cortellazzo: here is the mouth of river Piave with its typical fishing nets that contribute to create an incomparable scenery. From the little port get into via Massaua, cross the pontoon bridge and carry on for a km heading for Eraclea 3 Mare. Now leave behind you the extraordinary beauty of the Venetian countryside and set out for the coast and the green stretch of pines surrounding the Laguna del Mort along via dei Pioppi. Continue on via Lungomarina and via della Pineta cycling through the heart of Eraclea Mare (4) and the depths of its shady pine forest, consisting of around 3.500 umbrella-shaped stone pines. Marco Aurelio Pasti gave rise to this precious pinewood in order to protect the reclaimed land lying behind from stormy seas. Coming out of the cooling pines’ shadow go briefly along via degli Abeti where you come across the “Ex-Fornace” Environmental Centre. Ride on until you join a little dirt road, follow it alongside the left bank of Revedoli Canal until you’ll see a farm on the right-hand 4 side. You are now in Torre di Fine deserving a stop for the monumental drainage pump, evidence of the huge reclamation work on the surrounding marshlands. Past the bridge in front of the pump, take via Vallesina then merging into via Fagiana and get ready for a stunning landscape: wide open spaces covered with rice, corn, wheat and soybean fields, orchards and vineyards following one another. Flanking the Largon canal, part of the historic “Litoranea Veneta” which linked through its waters Venice to Trieste, you arrive to the little village of Brian with its historic locks, constructed with the purpose to prevent tidal salt water from entering the river waters used to irrigate the fields. Cycle to the right and cross a small bridge that will lead you to a tiny tarmac road: ride it up to the intersection with the “statale” towards Caorle (3) (main road) and face the last stretch of your route ending in viale Altanea.
